2:10 great hack for this palette. I have a few of these, but hadn't thought about adding half or full pans inside. Blue tac / poster putty is perfect to make it more versatile. Love the selection of tubes...the overall combo is excellent! Thanks!
Another fun video! I love seeing favorites of other people, because it gives me a good excuse to try new colors 😊 I received my latest Roman Szmal sale shipment yesterday so today I get to swatch and arrange my palette. I am so looking forward to it! I also splurged on the set of 30 Neocolor IIs and some varied color pencils. So many pretty colors to play with. Congratulations on 500+ 🎉❤🤩!
I also love seeing other people's favourites, always so inspiring. I wish I could see your new colours too, you'll have to let me know your favourites! I also love the neocolor IIs.
Wow!!! This video was amazing! Beautiful swatches and a very thought out layout of colors!!!! Very inspiring… I’ve been collecting Schmincke Horadam watercolors too… and been working on a big palette and a small must have travel palette…. This video gave me lots of ideas and was very helpful… I want to learn more about the pigments too thanks for all the info
I love the science part of it all too. Bit of a pigment nerd. I've seen some great palette hacks in my day, but this one is by far the best! I can't wait to try it out. Thank you so much for this idea!
I love perylene colours, too! Perylene violet and quinacridone gold are staples in just about every watercolour palette I've made myself. I just love how they look together. I've never tried perylene maroon, but I might have to try it out some time!
It's now 602 subscribers! Speed of light! Thank for explaining the Pigment system. I did not know you are a scientist? I suppose all artists are, really. Magnificent palette, Jules!
I've been looking for a watercolor artist and I'm so glad I found this channel! I recently got a hyperfixation and my usual YT artists don't mess with watercolor often amd im very picky about what i need in a YT artist
That's interesting because I don't consider myself a watercolourist 😂 I'm glad you enjoy the content, hopefully it's okay if I mix it up every now and then.
@chromaphile absolutely!! Your obsession with color and swatches is very much my speed and I can just enjoy the pretty colors and pay more attention to your hand movements and how you interact with the paint. I'm not artistic and none of this comes naturally to me, so I like being able to study from the very basics, that most people don't think to explain or most people don't need explained.
Just came back to say that I did this. I love that it was very inexpensive (not counting the paint!) haha. It's a perfect studio palette for me. Not too large, but holds a ton of paint. I use it daily and it's perfect. Thank you so much for sharing this hack! I've got 6 half pans mixed in with the full to squeeze in a few more colors. Congratulations on your channel growing! Hopefully this pace continues. Love from the US 🌻
It’s a super flexible system, I really love it as my studio palette too (even if this isn’t the intended layout 🤭) I’m so glad it works for you too! Thank you so much for the support ❤️
Love all those colors, they make a very beautiful and very useful ultimate palette, I think. You’ve given me some inspiration for mine. I have the same type palette but a chaeper version that is not as airtight as advertised but the same size and format as the Mijello one. Alas your inspiration has me needing to save up for some of those gorgeous, gorgeous colors so can’t build it quite yet but it’s a slow process with a lot of time in between to see if I truly like the last set-up of my chosen colors (I’m like an eternal doubter on steriods on a good day 🙈) so I can start going through the colors I do have. Luckily I still want a lot of colors I have already lol. I’m currently deciding my ultimate travel palette. It has literally cost me blood and sweat to get it ready to be filled after I’ve chosen my colors. After the metal 12 half pan tins and the occasional metal sigaret box and peppermint/candy boxes I have now modified a make-up box that I got about 20 y.a. when a certain brand came out with these modular system magnetic type palettes/boxes. I’ve removed the mirror and have smoothed it out to be spray-painted but my empty (half) pans were too high so therein lies the bleeding for it part as I’ve tackled the job myself with only a cutter knife and the pans, didn’t have those protective gloves that prevent cuts from getting through (don’t know what there called atm). I have slid off the plastic right into my fingers numerous times, luckily not all with the force to end up with too deep cuts. But I did need my excessive first aid kit, including those strips they use for deep cuts. Love those things, I never go to the ER for anything that a lot of tape can hold together 😅😂 Most are closed by now, just the one big cut across my thumb still needs those strips and bandage 🙈 So next time I know not to push too hard to cut through that hard plastic but use very tedious motions and make like a million little cuts on that same line without any pressure. Just some info for those attempting to try and do the same thing 😂
Ah I'm happy to provide some inspiration! Indeed it's taken me over a year of intensive swatching, note taking and dreaming about colours for me to arrive at this one... And I'm sure it's not my final version. There are still paints on my wishlist, somehow 😂 Be careful with that knife, painting isn't worth losing a finger for!! Maybe you could get some cheap empty eyeshadow pans or quarter pans instead?
What a wonderful palette! I have two of the Irit-perfect-palettes but I might need one of a Chromaphile's too 😅. Thank you for the inspiring video! Congrats for the 500🎉
Dankeschön for sharing your new palette! i’m also getting the Mijello palette in the mail soon, and putting together my palette. you’ve inspired me to perhaps make a little video of my process as well. Prost !
I love your yellow selections. I have this same palette, it houses my da vinci colors, which are my favorite! There are a couple colors I would 100% need, Quin rose/pink, quin coral/red, payne's grey, and a cerulean or manganese blue are musts for me on any palette. I have a really hard time with perylene red/violets desaturating and looking horrible dull. Love your videos! Happy painting
The Schmincke perylene colours are the best for not dulling or shifting as they dry! I don't find myself drawn to pinks, though I did end up adding my PR209 quin coral colour from Roman Szmal. I'm still looking for my perfect deep blue/grey too, I've just not been in love with the Payne's greys I've seen so far. Working on mixing my own 😁
@@chromaphile my favorite payne's grey is white nights followed by sennelier. The Micheal harding paynes grey is granulating and super beautiful. Daniel smith sodelite is also a pretty awesome granulating blue grey.
Well this was timely and interesting. I'm trying to trim down my palette so for a while I can have an identical travel palette and studio palette. I'm also making the transition from Roman Szmal to tubes as I love RS but am wanting to keep some convenience mixtures of my own. I was happy to see py154 in schminke as it looks a bit warmer than the RS version and it may become my single yellow (for now lol)
I think it'd be a great single primary yellow! And yes when RS releases tubes my bank account is in danger. I'd love to make some custom mixes to keep in my own palette. Maybe for a future video...
If you want more discreet mixing areas in the lid portion (not the clear insert) you might consider gluing in a trio of those triangular plastic trays commonly used for bead crafts. I've done this with my mijello satisfactorily 😊
That's a good idea, I can't remember who else I saw do that... However I'm just using the clear mixing area as colour chart storage right now, I think I'll just keep mixing on ceramic because I prefer that too 😁
@@chromaphile I got the idea from Brenda Swenson years ago, but I'm pretty sure she said she got it from someone else. It works great, but not sure if it will work with the full pans in.
Love this video! May I ask what you used to glue your full pans to the surface of the Mijello palette? I think this is a perfect, perfect solution and I'd like to do that; however, I want to be able to lift them out and put in others periodically. I was going to use some of those glue dots, the large ones, but thought I would ask you first. Also, thank you for sharing your love of painting.
Glue dots would work I think! I've just been using blu tack, haha. It is such a good setup, especially for having more "permanent" colours around the outside and being able to switch up the ones in the middle. Thank you so so much for the support!
i love it! such a novel idea to put full pans in that space there and i love that you've left gaps. not something i can do as i dont like seeing gaps myself but i love that they're there for like "room for more" u know? just found ur channel, subscribing ~ hope you grow big and big!! ;D

@@chromaphile that's so cool! thank you so much~ haha, i know what you mean, i'm thinking about re-arranging my current palette and it's so easy to fill up. looking forward to following your journey and i'll have to binge watch ur other vids when i get home ;D have a good week Jules!
I like what you said you can stop whenever you want. Trust me, they’re famous last words when you fall in love with Watercolor.
