Each time I here you say: Okay, let's go: I know that shit is about to get real ha ! Love it ! Amp-wise. How a great cab can turn ANY amp into something amazing is incredible. The vintage Orange has a tad more warmth and clarity response, but well, it's a tube amp, a vintage one, it should. But the job you've done with the Micro Terror... respect. I hear regularly people play with 1 grand, 2 grand, or 3 grand sounding far less good than you with that little one. GREAT job! Btw: this sounds reminds me a lot of Led Zep for some reason... ;)
I agree. One thing I've learned in the time spent watching Johan is that cabs and speakers can really make the tone. The amp provides the possibility, but its definitely the cab that MAKES the tone. I just bought my first pair of vintage Celestions, and my God, the difference it makes compared to any other vintage speakers I own.. amps give you the opportunity, the cabs make or break the tone.. I'm sure now....
I bought mine a few years ago in Parkersburg, WV. When I saw it I kinda giggled because I thought it was cute. Played it through the 1x8 cab it comes with and said, “Hmmm, interesting.” The salesman said he had wanted to try to see what it sounded through a bigger cabinet. He pulled out a Marshall clone and plugged them together and laughed. When we heard what that “cute” little amp sounded like, we stopped laughing and I walked away with a killer rig.
Orange is amazing-because The Micro Terror sounds incredible driving that 4x12-Even the Mini Crush which is 3 watts/when driving my 2x12 sounds unbelievable. The really cool thing about these Tiny Amps is not only is it loud/it retains the signature classic Orange Tone...
What makes the Micro so special is the excellent MASTER VOLUME. I have no idea if it is post-phase invertor or not (it's a dual 1M pot inside), but you can absolutely get those screaming preamp tones at such incredibly low volumes and in typical power tube amp fashion just sounds thicker, juicier as you turn it up. It's incredible the tone they got out of it and is the very best example of how you do solid state and hybrid amps right to achieve such small size and low cost
I have an Orange Crush 20LDX which I picked up second hand. I've been thinking of trading it in for something footswitchable between the 2 channels as I love the "Orange" sound. This video has really showed me what you can do with a little imagination and ingenuity! Takk Johan! Thank you and Kiitos. I'll chuck in a muchas gracias too while I'm here!
From what I’m hearing in this video the micro is keeping up w the or80 great overdrive I love the tone near the end sound thick coming out of that little amp love all your videos Johan!!
I sold my micro terror when the micro dark came out. In the room, the regular micro just didn’t have a full sound, no low end thump. The micro dark definitely has that. I bring it to every show as a backup now. My other guitarist has had to use it when his amp crapped out and to me it sounded better than his $1000 Mesa in the mix.
I love my Micro Terror. Bought the 8" cab for bedroom playing when others are at home but I pair it with a 12" cab when I can blast it. It makes a great backup amp for certain occasions. Thanks for giving this great little amp attention on multiple occasions. The controls are very basic but after a while you learn how to get some great sounds. Also takes pedals relatively well on cleaner settings. Peace.
Very interesting comparison! The micro dot does quite well but has a much more compressed, one dimensional sound with a limited dynamic range. For music that breathes then the real valve amp comes to life. Great vid Johan.
When I use to go to a practice space that had gear, I'd just bring along my Micro Terror and run it into a Marshall 4x12 1960 cab they had, and I gotta say, it sounded pretty damn killer. The guys I rehearsed with couldn't believe it. 20 watts, when you don't need a clean sound is plenty loud enough!
Shit, I've got a 5 watt Greer Mini Chief. It's basically a single ended Vox "AC" circuit and even that's plenty loud. Like you said, so long as you don't need a clean tone.
You make the micro sound great. I had both a micro and CR60. Both sounded fizzy like bees in a can. Ended up getting the OR15 and love it. If I'd been able to get my micro to sound like yours I'd have kept it. :-)
I also have this little amp. At lower volume a Lead12 sounds much better. Tighter lowend and crisper highs. But if you crank it through at least a 212, this is a very good amp!
The micro terror can definitely hold its own for what it is, it does do a relatively great job of mimicking the vintage orange head, great demo Johan, been curious about this head since it came out and have pretty much looked at it from an "arm chair" sort of way. Definitely want to try it out
I love my Micro Terror (sounds WAY better through a bigger cab than the little 8" micro cab that you can buy with it)! Would love to hear you do a comparison between the Micro Dark and the Dark Terror. I had a hard time telling these two apart in your video with my eyes closed. Very impressive little amp. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend bro!
Absolutely! It's got 20w solid state power and is more than enough (I've run it through my 4x12 in my music studio and it can keep up with my drum kit). I haven't tried it in a 1x12 or 2x12, but that should work as well I'd think. Maybe Johan has tried that and can comment on volume levels. The Micro Terror is more of a 70's hard rock tone. If you are going more toward a metal tone you may want to check out the Micro Dark (kind of like the differences between the Blackstar HT5 and HT5 Metal.) I also have an HT5C, but it's NOT loud enough to keep up with a drummer, but has tone for days!
When I was bit younger I was never happy with the sound of my guitars. I sold 'em and swapped 'em and bought 'em new. It wasnt untill I got a decent amp that I realised this is what I should have done years ago. Now I am super happy with the sounds I can now produce !! And wished I had never sold half of my old guitars !
great comparison! they both sound great to me! i love my little micro terror, though i'm hoping to experiment with valve swaps to see how that changes the voicing!
Hei Johan, hope You're well and healthy. The intro sounded very Pagey 😂 if to say so. Overall incredible tone out of both. Never know if it's just You or the gear. Well I'd say the Micro Terror is the bang for the buck if don't go on a Life Gig in a stadium.
Really nice demo :) Anyone noticed the red lead 12 on top of the Marshall full stack on the right ? I didn’t know that this little orange amp can sounds that good, at least with your skills Johan.
Hi Johan! Actually Micro Terror is realy good stuff! The big one is more "traditional", but the little one is really awesome! Have a nice weekend! Thank you for video! Zigfrid
For the most part, I actually prefer the Micro Terror in this clip. I don't know if I had a bad one, but I owned a Micro Terror for a short while when they first came out, but I HATED the tone of it. It was just so dull and the distortion tones it had sounded fizzy and lifeless. It was just awful. IDK if received a bad example or it it was the 2x12 cab I owned at the time, but I returned it within a week of having it. Yours sounds a little better in this clip for sure. Cheers! :)
With eyes closed, my ears can't tell the difference. Was it that way in the room Johan ?? Also, the little red Lead 12 head perched atop the Wall'O'Marshall behind U made me chuckle !!
They actually sounded like this in the room too. I used the added PPIMV on the OR80 to knock off maybe 4-5dB to make them equally loud. :-) have a great weekend!
I'm honestly considering making my next amp build a hybrid. I have seen how they implemented the Micro Terror preamp, and I'm not really a fan of it. could've been done better, and I think I can do it.
Only thing I'd have to say is the micro terror sounds great the way he plays on it. But when you want a pushed clean and pedals on the amp it doesn't quite do it. But great comparison
What do you think a Rocker 30 would compare to a vintage or120? I own a rocker 30, but I have the feeling it's lacking the balls of their big brother. They sound incredible in the lower mids, but are quite weak in the deep basses.. What do you think?
The micro is good value ! I have a Marshall 2x10 ‘popular’ combo , and a trace Elliot vellocette. Maybe try them sometime ( you have already done the mk2 superbass which is my other amp).
I think the vintage Orange is a bit more open, a bit clearer...if we want to get all nit-picky. The Micro Terror is incredibly close and sounds awesome! Question for you , Johan. Does the Micro Terror have enough volume to hang with a drummer? (through, say, a 2x12) It would be awesome to have something that small and cheap to jam with.
Hi Johan! Everytime it's the same : OK this master is gonna impress me with a tone I would not even think of...!! What are your settings to get that classic rock tone on the micro terror? Cause now I want to get one of these just to try!!and a Marshall bass 12! Thanks! JL
Hey Johan, what pups are in that SG please? Is it the '57 Classics, 490R & 498T or Custom Shop ones? Great playing as usual man. I've got a Tiny Terror & I love it. Cheers
I just bought a '92 SG Standard with the 490R & 498T pups. People reckon the R is pretty similar in tone to a '57 Classic but the T is quite a bit hotter. I love the tone of those '70s Dimarzio's, I reckon the '70s Gibsons that had them as stock are among the best sounding guitars I've ever played.
Sir what a great tone and playing ,I'm a big fan of you ,I'm a beginner ,can you kindly suggest me some of vintage2×12 or 4×12, affordable speakers (cabs) name which I can use to create great tonality?Thank you
Thanks, I’m so glad to hear that! Vintage 1970s Laney Cabs are usually relatively affordable. Early 1980s Marshall 4x12 Cabs with G12-80, G12H-100 or G12-65 speakers are also relatively affordable but great. Cheers Johan
I prefer orange with cabs equipped with G12H30 75Hz Greenbacks, but they are all rather expensive, The earlier JCM800 cabs with G12-65, G12-80 and G12-100 would probably also sound great with it.
Thanks! I like them, we included one in this video ua-cam.com/video/AM3jiMx5U2A/v-deo.html I can do a feature clip of an ENGL amp too, which one are you the most interested in?
Thank you for the reply and the link. My personal favorite Engl amps are the Invader and the Ironball, but really I like most of them, and I would probably enjoy hearing your style on any of them. Cheers!
I pity the people that spend money on modern Fender and Marshall amps when companies like Orange can out innovate them at half the costs. The OR50 was the first 50 watt head I had that sounded good at low volume. Orange makes a sweet juicy sound.
Orange sounds nothing like a Fender and only somewhat similar to a Marshal. There, now you have your answer. Not everyone wants the Orange sound. It's a great sound nonetheless.
Johan Segeborn yes the dark terrors are higher gain but you can great rock and blues tones outta the tube amp dark terror...I have not tried the micro dark yet but the tube dark terror is a winner...
Next time...get an old Ampeg G12R combo with an old Eminence alnico speaker...put an RCA 12au7 black plate tube in it from the 1950's and it will be instant ANGUS YOUNG TONE from that Orange tiny micro terror that will even rival a real Plexi amp!
GREAT job!
Btw: this sounds reminds me a lot of Led Zep for some reason... ;)
Thanks man, great to hear that! Yeah the cab and speakers really help out to get the tone. Cheers Johan
I've even started saying this "Okay, let;s go!" with a swedish accent to my girlfriend before "going" into her!
I'm dead hahahaha
I say it too all the time, but NOBODY gets it... I laugh to myself.....it's almost like when you get to say.."Thats what she said!"...LOL
Just more proof Orange makes the best amps on the planet. Even their smallest, cheapest, lightest amp sounds incredible.
I think the same, but you should also play Vox amps. Vox have that kind of vibes and they creates new small amps that sounds really good. 😊
I have one of these tiny orange heads. It has an aux in that I’ve used for so many things. It’s a great product.
We've all heard of "Night at the Museum"... I say we spend a "Night at Jo's Practice Space".... I'll bring the beer!
Hahaha! Sounds great man! :-)
I'm there!!!!
I would actually go to this event. Let me know when the date gets set 👍
I'm in too !
I’ll fly from Florida and bring some girls with me
Wow Johan I tought that Micro Terror wasn't enough to get those classic tones but you make sound every amp you get barelly perfect!
Thanks, I’m glad to hear that!
I have that micro terror and the micro dark. Both are surprisingly amazing given their size and output is very loud.
Yeah they’re surprisingly loud
Thanks to your video here, I purchased the Orange Micro Terror. Man that box is so loud - thank you so much, Johan for this cool vid!!!
Reviving this comment to say that's word by word and cab and amp EXACTLY what happened to me at the store that I bought my MT. Lol
@@TheRealQuester Wait...me too!
Nah, just kidding, that would be too weird 😄
Orange is amazing-because The Micro Terror sounds incredible driving that 4x12-Even the Mini Crush which is 3 watts/when driving my 2x12 sounds unbelievable. The really cool thing about these Tiny Amps is not only is it loud/it retains the signature classic Orange Tone...
Both tones are excellent! It’s really a matter of how much headroom you like.
Thanks, yeah that’s well put
Johan can you try either the Orange Crush pro amps they've been rumored to be some of the best SS amps on the market for 5 years now
Btw love the vids
I second that request! :)
I triple that request too ! Loi
Yes orange crush 120. Killer amp.
Boss katana FTW
I have one 16w one, it sounds very boxy and i don't like their metal style distortion at all.
From what I’m hearing in this video the micro is keeping up w the or80 great overdrive I love the tone near the end sound thick coming out of that little amp love all your videos Johan!!
Really massive gain for amp with single tube preamp. Thanks for video Johan!
Thanks man
Micro Terrors record extremely well and the tone control is great
Love my micro terror through my 1x12 cab. You, sir, are a monster though! Great playing.
It’s a really practical piece of gear to bring as backup
I love my Micro Terror. Bought the 8" cab for bedroom playing when others are at home but I pair it with a 12" cab when I can blast it. It makes a great backup amp for certain occasions. Thanks for giving this great little amp attention on multiple occasions. The controls are very basic but after a while you learn how to get some great sounds. Also takes pedals relatively well on cleaner settings. Peace.
Thanks man
Would LOVE to hear you compare the OR120 to a Tiny Terror!!
Very interesting comparison! The micro dot does quite well but has a much more compressed, one dimensional sound with a limited dynamic range. For music that breathes then the real valve amp comes to life. Great vid Johan.
Awesome demo Johan, I’d really like to see you do a video of the Orange Micro Dark next! Thanks.
Love my Micro Terror. Sounds great through my 1960a cab or my 1x12 greenback. Nails that Orange tone for such a little inexpensive amp.
Yeah, they did a great job on that one
When I use to go to a practice space that had gear, I'd just bring along my Micro Terror and run it into a Marshall 4x12 1960 cab they had, and I gotta say, it sounded pretty damn killer. The guys I rehearsed with couldn't believe it. 20 watts, when you don't need a clean sound is plenty loud enough!
Shit, I've got a 5 watt Greer Mini Chief. It's basically a single ended Vox "AC" circuit and even that's plenty loud. Like you said, so long as you don't need a clean tone.
I tried the dual terror. That thing really is amazing for what it is.
Fantastic comparison between these two amps. Great work... again!
They both sound great, but I gotta go with the Micro Terror on this one. Good video Johan.
Thanks man!
I agree. The micro terror seems to be more meaty.
You make the micro sound great. I had both a micro and CR60. Both sounded fizzy like bees in a can. Ended up getting the OR15 and love it. If I'd been able to get my micro to sound like yours I'd have kept it. :-)
Thanks Tim! :-)
DUDE i really dig what you do love it thanks so much for these kickass videos
Better harmonics and and more open sounds on the vintage one, but damn the microterror gets the job done
Excellent! I love my micro terror, I've even used the headphone direct to record silent, it's awesome and cute man I love that Marshall wall:)
Thanks man!
Nice mid neck note bloom hammer on action Johan. Very British that! I’m liking that SG!!
Thanks, great to hear that man!
I also have this little amp. At lower volume a Lead12 sounds much better. Tighter lowend and crisper highs. But if you crank it through at least a 212, this is a very good amp!
Great idea Johan ! They both sound nice. Micro = great value. Cheers !
Thanks my friend! Cheers
I'd love to see you use an OR50. One of the best amps Orange has made. It would be nice to hear it vs an OR80.
Yeah, let’s compare those. Cheers
Awesome tones in that micro
Thanks!
You should really do more videos about the supergroup i would realllly love to see you pushing a vintage laney
Yeah I hope to do more Laney videos too. Cheers
and also if a Laney ti-15112 can sound like a supergroup and a plexi as it can be really heavy but it's also very versatile would be very cool
The micro terror can definitely hold its own for what it is, it does do a relatively great job of mimicking the vintage orange head, great demo Johan, been curious about this head since it came out and have pretty much looked at it from an "arm chair" sort of way. Definitely want to try it out
Thanks Stepvan!
Would love to hear this comparison "in the mix!"
Micro Dark vs Plexi! Johan!!!
Haha yeah those little 8-inch cabs are ridiculous.
Thanks bro, you too!
Micro Dark is an amazing amp too. ZZ-Top uses one! best $300 I ever spent!
hey bro, i'm really interested in buying one, is it loud enough to gig or rehearse along with a drummer? I have a 4x12 cab. cheers from Chile!
Oh man do i love me some Orange amps. as usual great job, keep it up!
Thanks Tyler!
I have my fair share of trial and error moves too ;-)
great comparison! they both sound great to me! i love my little micro terror, though i'm hoping to experiment with valve swaps to see how that changes the voicing!
Thanks!
Awesome demo man ! the Mico Terror is an enigma in the amp world !
I love mine too
Thanks, yeah a lot of tone for those dollars. Cheers
Fine comparison, well done, should be helpful to many .Thanks brother!
Thanks my friend!
Thanks my friend! And yeah the Lead 12 looks tiny on top of that wall :-)
Another great video Johan! Great guitar playing too.
Thanks, I’m really glad to hear that!
I'd love to see what you could do with a Joyo Meteor (their Orange clone) mini amp!
Hi Johan! Actually Micro Terror is realy good stuff! The big one is more "traditional", but the little one
is really awesome! Have a nice weekend! Thank you for video!
Zigfrid
Thanks man, you have a great one too!
I was going to buy one of these but I ended up buying the heart attack because of your video. But they both sound good. Thanks
Thanks another great amp indeed. Have a great weekend my friend
Love your work Johan
Thanks, I’m really glad to hear that!
I can tell it's you playing because of your picking hand. Very unique.
Have you ever thought about doing clinics/ conferences about tone shaping?
it comes across in such a way that the MT sounds bigger than the or80
Tube Amp sound is a little more complex and tasty but mini SS is very very usable.
The Micro Terror sounds really good with the 74 orange cab
Thanks man!
The Micro sounds better !! Surprising !!
Yes! Tiny Terror has some great tones in it! Thanks
Thanks, it did indeed
It did, but it is not the amp featured in this video
even prefered the micro in this set-up. loved the mids
Thanks
Unbelievable! Great job as always)
Cheers! :)
Thanks! Yeah some amps/cabs work better together than others. This is a very bright and percussive cab. Cheers
Awesome speakers those old pulsonic greenbacks!!
Yeah those are the pinnacle of rock speakers!
With eyes closed, my ears can't tell the difference. Was it that way in the room Johan ?? Also, the little red Lead 12 head perched atop the Wall'O'Marshall behind U made me chuckle !!
Byron I am with you, I can't tell a difference
They actually sounded like this in the room too. I used the added PPIMV on the OR80 to knock off maybe 4-5dB to make them equally loud. :-) have a great weekend!
I'm honestly considering making my next amp build a hybrid. I have seen how they implemented the Micro Terror preamp, and I'm not really a fan of it. could've been done better, and I think I can do it.
Interesting!, Let us know how it works out. Cheers
Muff with cranked orange for sleep tones ! Plz! Love this demo!
Thanks!
Only thing I'd have to say is the micro terror sounds great the way he plays on it. But when you want a pushed clean and pedals on the amp it doesn't quite do it. But great comparison
Thanks, yeah for sparkling cleans and higher gain the OR80 wins. But this is the tone I’m using 90% of the time. Cheers
Just ordered mine!
What do you think a Rocker 30 would compare to a vintage or120?
I own a rocker 30, but I have the feeling it's lacking the balls of their big brother. They sound incredible in the lower mids, but are quite weak in the deep basses..
What do you think?
Great comparison. How about the Tiny Terror with Vintage Orange Head?
Thanks! I actually compare those in this clip
ua-cam.com/video/L2R10HX4LmA/v-deo.html
The micro is good value !
I have a Marshall 2x10 ‘popular’ combo , and a trace Elliot vellocette.
Maybe try them sometime ( you have already done the mk2 superbass which is my other amp).
Hi, we played the Popular in these clips
ua-cam.com/video/tX26kK8457U/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/u0_a6s9oU3c/v-deo.html
Does this sound like a tube amp or does it lean more towards digital?
I think the vintage Orange is a bit more open, a bit clearer...if we want to get all nit-picky. The Micro Terror is incredibly close and sounds awesome!
Question for you , Johan. Does the Micro Terror have enough volume to hang with a drummer? (through, say, a 2x12)
It would be awesome to have something that small and cheap to jam with.
With a soft to medium hitting drummer it would work I think
Hi Johan! Everytime it's the same : OK this master is gonna impress me with a tone I would not even think of...!! What are your settings to get that classic rock tone on the micro terror? Cause now I want to get one of these just to try!!and a Marshall bass 12! Thanks! JL
Alright, guess I need to get a micro terror at some point!
it has awesome tone for bass as well, i suggest you try it out Johan.
Interesting, I’ll try that! Cheers
Hey Johan, what pups are in that SG please? Is it the '57 Classics, 490R & 498T or Custom Shop ones? Great playing as usual man. I've got a Tiny Terror & I love it. Cheers
Thanks man, it’s got a 1970s Dimarzio Super II K10 in the bridge and a Custombucker in the neck.
My only complain about the micro terror is I want a full eq! I hate that damn little shape knob
I'm guessing you could make a Honeytone mini amp sound superb Johan! :D \m/
Thanks Clive! :-) Cheers!
Used cost a half price of used Marshall dsl1. For classic rock good choice. Not as main amp but as a backup or earning for something better.
About the little cheap amp l preferred the minii crush battery amp it sound great , the all tube amp huge is awesome superb amp
Johan Segeborn thank you so much sir
Of course the big amp is better, but I find it unbelievable how good the Micro Terror sounds.
Hi! What cab would you suggest to pair with Orange TH30 head? I don't really have money for the Orange 4x12, but I want 412 :D
I prefer orange with cabs equipped with G12H30 75Hz Greenbacks, but they are all rather expensive, The earlier JCM800 cabs with G12-65, G12-80 and G12-100 would probably also sound great with it.
What do you think of Engl amps? Have you ever thought of demoing one or a few of them?
Love the vids.
Thanks! I like them, we included one in this video
ua-cam.com/video/AM3jiMx5U2A/v-deo.html
I can do a feature clip of an ENGL amp too, which one are you the most interested in?
Thank you for the reply and the link.
My personal favorite Engl amps are the Invader and the Ironball, but really I like most of them, and I would probably enjoy hearing your style on any of them.
Cheers!
cool video! would rather hear a marshall Origin vs a vintage plexi
Thanks, will do that first chance I get!
Impressive indeed. The micro terror is worthy.
Thanks! It is indeed
What about Vox Lil' Night Train?
I love that SG
Yeah that’s a nice guitar indeed
Micro Terror sounds great, OR80 has broader response to pick attack.
Thanks, yeah the high end is more pronounced with the OR
Surprising enough I think the Micro Terror through that cab sounds way better than the Vintage
The OR80 is smoother, but these amps are voiced very similarly.
Where are the lemon amps?
Hahaha! ;-)
Peavey made all the lemons.
They have a face plate with the letters C.R.A.T.E. on them.
I wish hed demo the thunderverb 200
The Micro Terror sounds way better than the Micro Dark. The Dark is a fizz factory with an annoying hi mid bark.
I haven’t tried that one yet actually. It’s higher gain right?
Johan Segeborn yes the dark terrors are higher gain but you can great rock and blues tones outta the tube amp dark terror...I have not tried the micro dark yet but the tube dark terror is a winner...
Yes! but its also very dynamic, I love mine!
HÅI
TUDEI WÈRGÓNA
my god dude I love your channel
Thanks man, I’m so glad to hear that! :-)
OK Johan.. you need to trademark " OK....Let's go!" and get tee shirts out.. ASAP....
;-)
Next time...get an old Ampeg G12R combo with an old Eminence alnico speaker...put an RCA 12au7 black plate tube in it from the 1950's and it will be instant ANGUS YOUNG TONE from that Orange tiny micro terror that will even rival a real Plexi amp!
Dunno but, I'm enjoying the younger one...
