Best comparison out there for these two amps...I think you've sold me on the Tiny Terror. I was going to buy the Micro Terror, but the tones just aren't there. The Micro sounds a bit on the muddy side. I think the Tiny Terror with an OCD would sound EPIC! Thanks for the great work man! I'll probably end up getting the micro dark and the tiny terror.
LLCurrio I ended up going with the Micro Terror. I realized that living in an apartment, even 15 watts of all tube power is too much. So i'm running the micro into the PPC112
The cleans on the tiny terror were noticeably more articulate and less muffled. Should be obvious given the price difference, but the tiny is definitely the way to go.
How in the world did you manage to turn the volume all the way up without destroying something in the room? I've got a Micro Dark and when the gain is turned up I can barely touch the volume knob without rattling the windows haha.
If you test with a 16Ohm 1x12 speaker I think you get less volume. But if you plug in a 8Ohm 4x12 cab you're going to do more than upsetting the squirrels for sure!
Watching this video after watching the Micro Terror to the Micro Dark comparison, it appears that the Micro Dark comes closer to the Tiny Terror than the Micro Terror :) except, maybe with less mids than the TT
@@darklinkduck2275 yeah mine did as well, just swapped to electro harmonix and its rippin, but like you said running through a 4x12 makes a world of difference
Very useful video. The tiny terror is the clear winner but I'm surprised how well the micro terror does. It only sounds a bit dodgy with palm muting. Considering you can get them 2nd hand for the same price as a Boss pedal I might get one for fun
@@bradlivey7867 that’s completely untrue IME. I have a micro terror and I switched out the tube it came with for a vintage one, I’d have to look at it to be sure of the exact brand but it made the amp roar. I didn’t think it would make much difference myself before I actually did an A/B.
Agreed the Micro Terror sounds good with the tone in the 12 o'clock position once the tone is moved from 12 o'clock the sound goes bad fast. At least that's how it sounds on my computer.
The TT circuit uses power amp distortion when cranked. That's why it's in every freaking studio now. I had a MT and it was awesome, but that low-mid growl is not going to happen with a class D laptop power section. Ever.
i've had the micro terror and the problem is that when you increase tone bass is decreasing, on the tiny terror becomes only brighter the tone retaining some balls, on the micro unfortunately not.
Toby's Guitar Gear that's what I thought, and what it sounded like in all the videos. Then I got my tiny and it's a thumping gain horse compared to the micro lol
Can I use the micro terror or the dark terror in a cabinet bugera 2x12 I hope you help me because I have that doubt and other question: Wouldn't I have any problem at a concert with bugera 2x12 and the micro terror or the dark terror because the micro and the darks both of them are 20watts...
Yeh that will work into the cabinet. Both are amps are loud enough distorted. If you want cleans they may not go to concert volumes, but you can always mic them 👍
I bet they did it just for the point of re-issuing it later for loads of money. They seem to describe many of the terror amps on their website as revisions of the tiny terror. They even made a documentary on the amp.
There's something very odd about the EQ of the Micro Terror. There shouldn't be any difference between them at Bedroom level really. In comparisons the Micro Dark doesn't really have that issue, and the tone of the Micro Terror seems really odd in general.
Problem for the comparison: What ohms was the cab set to? If it was 16 ohms for both the amps then the micro terror I doubt if it put out more than 10 watts at best. It needed 8 or better yet, 4 ohms to produce 20 watts and unmuddy what you hear.
Sure but sometimes price doesn't reflects what you may prefer...and I am not at all against ss amps, in fact many that I love are solid state. Take gary moore prefering the 1300 something soldano hot rod vs the 3500 SLO of the same company!
I guess the main selling point of the tiny terror is that the tone knob is actually usable... Honestly, "Dirty Sounds" on the micro terror sounded thin and tinny when you turned up the tone, and incredibly muffled when you turned it down. You can pick up a tiny terror used for around 300 usd, but they discontinued it. Fine by me, I wouldn't pay 600 dollars for it.
Joshua Skolnick the micro has a 12ax7 preamp tube into a solid state power section which makes it a hybrid. The tiny has 2 12ax7's in the preamp and 2 EL84's in the power section which makes that one an all valve head.
Mike Vendetti Tiny terror preamp tube voltages are around 250-300 volts, while micro terror plate voltages are 9-10 volts. This simply isn't a proper way to run the tube, and it looks more like a gimmick in the micro terror.
THIS is how everyone should do comparison videos.
So good.
Heard weezer instantly like

Podcastage Just change the tube on the micro it will sound better for cheap

Cool
im planning on doing that same set up. How loud does it go comfortably and does it sound good?
Same thing, here.
The wide range of the micro terrors tone knob is one of my favorite things about it. Can get super weird.
Woo! Someone that plays what I would be playing. I sense a fan of weezer and 50's chord progressions ;)
i have a micro terror and love the sounds, but you can easily see the tiny terror is more versatile. I truly enjoy your videos
Micro terror sounds like is muted or like playing tru small speakers compared to tiny terror
The cleans on the tiny terror were noticeably more articulate and less muffled. Should be obvious given the price difference, but the tiny is definitely the way to go.
Just found your channel Toby, binge watching all videos now. Sorry for all the notifications :)
Haha, no problem, all your comments made my day 👍
its astonishing how similart these amps Sound! BTW: Nice SG!!! and thanks for the Demo!
I can't wait to get a Tiny. I know I want one now, but between just buying a Les and an Orange 212, it will have to wait. so good sounding!
Echoing similar sentiments here. I have TH-30 and a Micro Dark and I think my next will be the Tiny Terror. Surprising tone. Thank you for this.
I love,my micro terror... I'm using an Ibanez tube screamer with a BBE "boosta grande" , sounds amazing👍
This is the comment I'm looking for. Just a tube screamer and a 6 band eq is what I want to start with. From what I can tell, that's about all I need.
Amazing review
How in the world did you manage to turn the volume all the way up without destroying something in the room? I've got a Micro Dark and when the gain is turned up I can barely touch the volume knob without rattling the windows haha.
Haha yeh I live in the country side so can get away with it. The squirrels were not happy though 👍

What's that you're playing at 0:53 ? I really like that. Nice demo BTW. Thanks.
in your experience... is the tiny terror and a 2x12 cab enough for a typical small bar gig?
great work by the way
Cheers 👍
The Tiny Terror is more than loud enough overdriven. The cleans however, can't go very loud without breaking up.
If you have the Micro Terror I recommend replacing the tube with a JJ. It's like having a high end amp now haha
Diego Rodas my micro terror came with a jj in it but I got one of the first batches. Honestly a decent speaker is way more important than the tube
@@darklinkduck2275 yeah you're 100% right. I said that assuming you have a decent speaker.
I replaced mine with a Mesa Boogie tube sounds amazing on my micro dark
@@darklinkduck2275 yeah mine did as well, just swapped to electro harmonix and its rippin, but like you said running through a 4x12 makes a world of difference
Why not spend $10 more and get a Gold Lion 12AX7? Much quieter in operation especially since so much of the tone is in the preamp in that design
Very useful video. The tiny terror is the clear winner but I'm surprised how well the micro terror does. It only sounds a bit dodgy with palm muting. Considering you can get them 2nd hand for the same price as a Boss pedal I might get one for fun
the micro terror would benefit upgrading the preamp tube with an Electro harmonix 12ax7eh high gain preamp tube
@@bradlivey7867 You're so very wrong, Tube selection at times can make or break an amp, regarding tone and dynamic.

It all comes down to the tone knob. Recording wise...
Agreed the Micro Terror sounds good with the tone in the 12 o'clock position once the tone is moved from 12 o'clock the sound goes bad fast. At least that's how it sounds on my computer.
Of course the tiny wins, but you can't expect a cheaper hybrid amp to sound as good as a full valve amp :p
The TT circuit uses power amp distortion when cranked. That's why it's in every freaking studio now. I had a MT and it was awesome, but that low-mid growl is not going to happen with a class D laptop power section. Ever.
NOT EVEN CHANGING THE VALVES AND WITH A 6-BAND BOSS EQUALIZER IN FRONT?
Micro terror only runs the 12ax7 at like 12 volts... just sayin...
What's The name of the second song player here? I know i've Heard it before but i can't remember :/
Weezer Do you wanna get high 👍
i've had the micro terror and the problem is that when you increase tone bass is decreasing, on the tiny terror becomes only brighter the tone retaining some balls, on the micro unfortunately not.
I love this video. Crazy thing is my tiny and micro sound soooo different from each other but they sound very similar in this video?????
Thanks, I've always thought the Micro Terror sounds like a mini Tiny Terror.
Toby's Guitar Gear that's what I thought, and what it sounded like in all the videos. Then I got my tiny and it's a thumping gain horse compared to the micro lol
I know what you mean. But I think what that is is you can really FEEL the tiny way more over the micro which you cant get from this video?
I have both i use both with a 1 -12 8 ohm cab
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezer

Nice salute to John Frusciante on the riff starting at 00:54. Not sure if that was intentional or not.
The Orange Tiny Terror has been discontinued I think
The Tiny Terror combo has been discontinued. The Micro Dark took it's place.
I bet they did it just for the point of re-issuing it later for loads of money. They seem to describe many of the terror amps on their website as revisions of the tiny terror. They even made a documentary on the amp.

Tiny terror soundly wins, But the micro ain't bad.
Got one get one !! Also went mad and bought a micro dark !! The cleans win on the dark !! They are both good buys 😁👍👍👍
Me: This amp would do Weezer?
Short answer: Yes
I just now realized this is two amps o. Top of each other and not the small amp on top of its box. Lol
Problem for the comparison:
What ohms was the cab set to?
If it was 16 ohms for both the amps then the micro terror I doubt if it put out more than 10 watts at best.
It needed 8 or better yet, 4 ohms to produce 20 watts and unmuddy what you hear.
Cab was set to 8ohms for this comparison
ok then. Still for a practically ss amp it needs the lower ohmage to get full loudness, hence my question.
I prefer the tiny terror by far.
At almost 3X the price you should.......Just sayin

yeah, i think the weak link is the tone stack for sure - Micro Dark's is much more useful.
Say it ain't so, your drug is a heartbreaker
Tiny timy temeee
What was the song for clean
I'm noodling around Db Minor. The chords are similiar to Gotten - Slash
micro with tone at 1 sounded way better.. almost "lofi" but everything else i think tiny was nicer
Heard Pink Floyd instantly liked.

It's a similar ditty to Gotten - Slash 👍

Genau so soll das sein. Kein Gelabere und keine Geshreddere im 13/14-Takt
Tiny Terror = Wow, Good Band!
Micro Terror = get out of stage amateur!
The difference is one sounds exactly the same as a cheap practice amp
tiny terror by far...micro is too muddy
Typical Transistor Power Section Sound . Harsh Paper Thin Every One Of Them !

Mike Vendetti micro terror. Tubes are designed to run at high voltage.
Even the cheapest analog music equipment is better then the best high end digital!!! Believe not me but Jesus Christ!!! That is what he told me!!!
the micro sounds like caca compared to the tiny...
