- I've been running my long term Suzuki GSX-S1000 GX all year and I've always wondered how close is this engine to the GSXR? Well I thought it was about time I found out, so in this series we will firstly install a full exhaust system then get the bike custom mapped!
Huge thanks to Steve and Lextek Exhausts for the support:

Put your silencer bracket the other side and you will get a bit more clearance from the swingarm, and it will look better.
That’s what I thought too. And will look cleaner as well.
I have that exact exhaust and muffler from Paul Hutchings and with a BMC or DNA filter and custom tune made 150 whp. Mine is a 22 GSXS1000GT. Love it!
You got a awesome garage/workplace setup. Gotta say I'm a little jealous of that one.
Thanks buddy, yeah still absolutely love it, still a novelty 👍
Nice to have a garage video. When is the ZXR project starting?
Next month 👍
Had a flash, filter and lextek set up on an MT09. She made 123 ponies ! Amazing exhaust systems for the dorra 👍🏼
Fair play to Suzuki for allowing the bike to be 'tweaked'. Also I think referring to the restrictions as being 'pesky Suzuki' is a bit unfair to them. They won't want to have been made to restrict things but the powers that be demand it so blame the bureaucrats, not Suzuki!
Nice one, Chops!
Yeah absolutely not a dig at Suzuki, the 140mph top speed restriction is on them though 😋
@@LambChopRides Ah, true! If I don't comment before, have an awesome Christmas, m'dude ❤️
@MontgomeryPisswhistle same to you buddy 👍
Hiya chopsy, hope you are well. I've got a pair of lextek cans on my VTR. They are brushed stainless op1s. They come with link pipes and everything to mount them. Cheap as chips and a lifetime warranty! The build quality is really good, I can't fault them. This will be the 4th winter they've done on my bike and genuinely there is zero corrosion, nothing. They've done about 30,000 miles now including a trip to the Isle of Man this year. If I'm super critical they are a bit loud without the dB killers in but that's it. If your not fussed about the badge on the side they really are worth a look.
Wow fantastic feedback! Yeah I wasn't expecting them to be anywhere near the quality they are. Great they have even lasted well 👍
Fabulous project diary come tutorial for us who are just a tad wary of spannering our precious toys! Lot of great tips there thanks
Cant wait for the flashing and dyno insights video - The oil analysis is also a great idea - Keep up the awesome work Chopsie!
YES!!! Finally, custom GSX-S1000 GX in the house ❤
Does look great quality for the money, fair play 👌🏼
I had a Lextek exhaust system on my GSXR 600 (looked like the yoshi) and it made 122bhp at the wheels with a tune.. I was impressed with the quality.
Sounds fantastic, just like the Old Days.
Yeah sounds just like my old K8!!
Lextec are top G's. I got a full system for my vfr 800 for cheaper than an akra slip on. Build quality is also very nice
To be honest, this looks exactly the same as the aliexpres stuff. You can tell by the welds and the finish. The welds might look nice and all but thats the typical china exhaust welds you get. No filler wire used, just melted together with Tig. An other tell tale sign is the 51mm slip on size. Only chinese brands use this as this is standard for the 2 inch shit quality stainless steel they use.
Pure chinesium
The stickers on the piping are a give away as well
The pipe has been developed and dyno tested by a guy who owns the GT version of this bike and it has already been proven to hold up well and produce awesome power. Myself and many others are already enjoying the gains on our unrestricted GTs and GXs.
@@MalShakur they can tell what they want. Do your research, its the exact same header set you can find on alie. Down to the heatshield. And the muffler isbthe exact same Akra copy you can find all over the place.
@@RatherRed Been looking on AE, still cannot find a full system with a pre-silencer. When you find it, please post the link and I'll be happy to STFU. Of course the heat shields are all the same because well...where else are you going to put it on these models that would provide coverage where it's needed?
Enjoyed the vid 👍
My favourite bit was when you got the hammers out x
Haha oh yes, you know my diy jobs involve a hammer!!
Enjoyed the video. Hope you’re keeping well. This looks like a good bike to consider for touring. Will watch the tuning episode next.
Really enjoy the chops workshop vids, need more of them :-)
Glad you like them! 😁👍
Bought a project bike previously, a 2002 gear driven cam vfr 800 with 19k miles. I got lextek
Headers from Paul For that and they really are quality for the price! Nice vid chops. 👌🏼😎
Very nice too! Always loved that intro. Sounds great! 👍
Well done Chopsie. Sounds really nice too. Very interested to see what the gain is and your test of how it all feels on the road.
Grumpy Jordan a man of few words .... that's why he'd rather be on a bike or behind a wheel so he blows his fuses slowly 😂. A legend of Suzuki
Love it when you are in the garage your just like me not Wright with out a mess
Yes absolutely!! Haha 😄👍
has a spectacular sound
Crocs are ace and a good safety shoe I know I wear them for work. Good saving on-weight Chops 👌
Haha thanks Ian 😄 👍
That's looking and sounding great, talk about value for the money,, good choice,, and can't wait for the next installment on the Dyno,, half the weight saved 👍👍☘️😁👍☘️ from northern Ireland
Lextech looks like a good system. Good choice. Maybe just one small tip is there should be a drain bolt for the coolant on the pump, or pop the hose off there. Might let you catch a bit more. Great work though, and looking forward to the series. 👍👍
I was hoping not to have to bleed the entire system but as it happens was unavoidable 😫 good tip though 👍
Be interesting to see the difference on the Dyno . Great workshop video, with-fine adjustment tools 😂.
Haha thanks Alan, it's all about those fine adjustments 😄👍
I’ve been thinking about changing the system on my Yamaha. Never considered Lextech, but now I definitely will. If I do, I’ll take it to Steve Jordan as he’s knows his stuff. Sounds pretty fruity! I can’t believe how much you got out of the motor. ❤
Exhausting stuff 😁
Do a Trackday! DO A TRACKDAY!!!! ❤
Garage door looking good 😎😎 Wow sounded good at the end .
Yeah still looks great! 😎😎
Really enjoy all your videos Chopsy!!
I had my Ninja 1000sx remapped after putting a full decat system on it and because they block the pair valve for the mapping to get a correct fuel/air reading I had lost all my pops and bangs 😢😢 But I went back recently and had the bung removed from the pair valve and I'm one happy chappy again (Childish I know but we need pops and bangs in our lives 😁😁).
Looking forward to the next instalment video of the mapping.....
Yeah absolutely we need pops! I wanted to keep that too 👍
Thanks Chopsy, another entertaining video.
Great video , it sounds amazing 😊
You do good work Chopsy.
Brake cleaner is better for cleaning off oils, WD-40 leaves a thin film of oil itself hence the smoke. Also where you used the paste is not needed, those clamps never leak if fitted correctly, the other joins are more likely to but probably won't, and although it is not necessarily a bad thing I have never seen copper grease used when fitting an exhaust and I used to work at STS Tyre Pros (and Holburn years before they changed the name). It would be interesting to see how the copper grease holds up to exhaust temps, although I know it is a high temp grease for mating surfaces.
Love your work Chopsy, I have a 2022 model GSXS 1000 and I’m keen to see the outcome. Change the airfilter to a Sprint P08 while you’re at it.
Looking forward to seeing how you get on with the tuning on theis John 🙂
Thanks Pete 👍
Yeah got a lextek on my gsxs 1000, no mid pipe, 153 at the wheel flashed. It actually says Chinese on the box. CMC or similar logo if i remember. Put a yoshi hanger on to lose the clumsy mounting affair on the rear pegs.
Great video! I am thinking about buying this bike so will be very interested to see how it goes on the dyno!!!
That's amazing value. In the intro I was thinking Lextek was going to be some AliExpress jobby & was thinking it wasn't on brand for you but straight away the welds were blatantly much better than you'd expect. Even the cover lines up well with the belly pan plastics.
Been running Lextek on all my bikes since 2018...can't stand the importer or his non existent back up service, but the product is good! Probably someone has given him a good slap by now for his cheek?
@@williamrae9954would that be Paul Hutchins?
@donnyazoff980 Cheeky B'Stard
Great stuff chopsy , looks and sounds a lot better and great price for full system 😮😮😮 they don't do end cans for speed twin do they 😀😀 looking forward to the footering and dyno run .👍👍👍
O som do escape e diferenciado!
Interesting vid. A very enjoyable watch & really looking forward to the next installment. I'm guessing about +10-15rwbhp after the flash.
Ive got a lextek end can on my 2001 r1 and its a howler over 3k rpm. Bandit 1200 has a full black widow system. Sadly i cant find a full system that is road legal for the r1 whilst deleting the exup. But the lextek is superb!
I'd have done a stud and nut conversion on this headers. Alan key bolts when old are a nightmare, stainless studs and copper nuts would prevent issues the future
Grt vid pal 👍🏻👍🏻pmsl at the crocs quote I luv a croc 😂exhaust looks pretty nice too 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks 👍
Nice cup 👀 🍄
I do like a garage video chopsy! King of the blag strikes again with silkolene! If you have any left send it my way for my GSXR! 😂😂
Will put one aside for you! 😄👍
I've been using Silkolene since the mid 90's & worked with them professionally for a few years too. I can confirm their technical guys & support they provide is brilliant. I use Comp 4 in all my pre 2020 bikes & Pro 4 for the later ones. The Lextek exhaust looks the biz, it doesn't matter where it's built, so long as you can get the product support. TBH I may have chose a GX if I knew the exhaust & CPU restrictions could have been so ahem easily liberated lol The full factory Akro for a V4S Multi is horrendously expensive by comparison 😮 Looking forward to part 2🤘
Boa tarde adorei o conteúdo do video!
Speaking of oil test results. I have mine from a 5k mile 890 adventure. Happy to send them over, if you want a look\compare to what yours generate.
I should be OK but if needed I will give you a shout 👍
Fun fact. Lextek are from the same people as lexmoto & tbh their exhausts are extremely good quality & value for money
Oh the joy of dealing with mr i love a laugh steve Jordan 😂😂😂
I know it's a joyous experience going there you get more conversation out of a fence post
@@TrulyUniqueOne😂😂😂
He was very chatty with me.. you are paying for his expertise and that he has in spades!
@LambChopRides he charges a lot more than anyone else, overpriced imo
Just like the the old days unfortunately without the 80s music😎👍
sounds good that does mate
Thanks Inspector 👍
Quanti decibel raggiunge con questo scarico ?
Be interested to see how much better it rides, I had the original gsxs100 with a full system and pc. Was loads better in midrange and it spit flame the most important thing 🔥🔥
Oh yes she pops and bangs lovely! It's like riding my k8 with high bars and panniers!! Bloody love it
Sweet.. enjoy mate hope you don’t make you give it back soon 😂
You should put the end can black extention bracket behind the can? Look better.
If in doubt get the persuader out.😎👍
7:44 I can't unsee "cumpan"
Haha, it's not what you think! Honestly 😅
Sounds like she Purrrring away Chops! Enjoy!
Yeah sounds absolutely lovely and the pop on upshift! 👌
@@LambChopRides 😍
That exhaust sound is your neighbour's favourite exhaust sound whether they like it or not😃
You must have won the lottery to be able to afford all those bikes 😮
Collected over many years of buying and selling. The GX isn't actually mine to be fair 👍
No wood chisel Chops? 😂
How is that aftermarket screen on the road compared to standard ?
If you really want more power, I believe a GSXR top end should be possible?
Would really want to see an actual build with substantial power gains :)
Looks and sounds great Chopsy however it just isn't quite the same without Mavis getting on your case while you work !
She might be making a return... 👍
Great video, unrelated question I love your workshop can you tell me what size footprint it is
Losing those 5 kg negates the need for a diet!
Yes that's what I though 😅
well put more air in too . dont just let more air out. a performance free flowing filter
They don't really do much in my experience.. would rather have better filtration
@@LambChopRides For part 3, get your Dyno tuner to have a look at that air box design for restrictions, if there are any unrestrict it AND then put a performance filter on, get them to Dyno it again & then tell us it doesn't add any benefit. I've found gains in every bike I've had that I've fitted aftermarket exhaust on. More air in = more air out & more power 🤪
It's "oh Jesus" heavy. 😂
Are you sure it was a gasket sealant from Lextek with slip joints, you normally use a anti seize / anti corrosion paste?
Copper slip should only be used on mild/carbon steel, its reactive with stainless steel and can cause galling, a Aluminium or Nickel paste like Permatex 77164
Choppsy please stop calling them headers we are British there dawn pipes and there exhaust gaskets rant over good vid buddy 👍👍👍
This bike is at the top of my list right now. Thank Chopsie. I enjoy your videos. Nice selection of bikes in there😅 I just sold my '21 R1250GS. I try something different every few years. I wanted something sportier and fun to look at. The GX definitely fits that bill for me so far. My first real bike was a new 2007 gsxr 750, dark purple-blue n black. After a good fall, it was the bright blue n white. The bright blue n gray GX gets me so excited. I LOVE that color on that bike. It's very classic Gixxer. Here in the US we get the shit sage green! I'm going to buy one and have it painted blue and the rims powder coated blue. There's some dealers selling them for $2-4k less than MSRP. How do you like riding it? Is it awesome? Any weak areas? Comfortable? I'm a one bike but for now and do 150-300 mile one day rides most weekends. The GS was pretty comfortable. I'll miss the heated seat! Lol.
Thanks again and cheers from an avid rider from the States.
PS. I'm 52 and need some comfort due to running a physical business for 30 years. Soreness comes up pretty quickly. This bike seems perfect balance of general comfort and sporty fun.
The GS was absolutely awesome n so fun. I just like to change it up every few years. And I'm a one bike guy for now.
How much were they again 🤔
I’ve never heard of using WD40 to clean the exhaust before running it. I used brake cleaner.
I installed an Akrapovic on my CB650R a few days ago but I didn’t put anything between the pipes when I slipped them together. Is this important?
Sounds like any bike before and after lol
I've been waiting for my Chopsy video to arrive ! During this I was saying ' the cylinders are from left to right'......obviously you didn't hear it as you're about 40 miles away and this was recorded 😄
Haha, you should have shouted louder!! Thought I was going mad 😄👍
How much louder then the original do you think i don't need it loud just better lol.
The master of blagage strikes again!! - nice work with Silkolene Chopsie. Great vid - gives me the heeby jeebies thinking about that sort of caper......nice work on the exhaust, sounds great!!
Haha thanks Andy! Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a pallet of stuff!! 😄😄👍
@TheMissendenFlyer You should try for some cleaning products Andy. You're the man to put them to the test! 😂
Hi Chop, hope you’re well. Just started watching your vid, where can I get myself one of those flash remote controlled bike lifts? (Right back to your video 👍🏼)
Um it's a probike es500 i think... 👍
@ cheers! I was thinking of the ABBA sky lift, but watching how easy it is to just push a button does look appealing 👍🏼 Love the video, looking forward to seeing the GX with the new map
I also have a skylift, they are great can't knock it. Just super easy on and off with this 👍
@ “Super easy” is the preferred option these days! 😂 Cheers though, will seriously consider the sky lift too, I have a dozen different abba adapters with their superbike stand and the quality is second to none 👌🏽 Keep up the awesome work with the videos mate, they’re spot on 👍🏼
No balance pipes on the headers?
What did you end up doing with the servo cables?
Just tucked them under the engine 👍
👍
How were the welds?
Very good indeed Andrew 👌
Try a DNA air filter boss!
What's job of the exhaust valve Chopsey? Is it solely for engine braking? 🤔
Does it contribute to torque or power at all? 🤔
All used for emissions really and noise control. Don't think there is any performance benefits at all
Put a 2019+ GSXR motor in it!!
Can you do a Silkolene product lineup that they sent you
Hi,
Which company is responsible for remapping your motorcycle? I have a 2024 CB650R with 337 miles on it, fitted with the Full Racing Akrapovic system. However, the injection light came on after a ride on the motorway. I need to get it fixed, but I’m concerned about my 3-year warranty. Do you have any advice?
It's Steve Jordan Motorcycles 👍
What happend to the r1 project? Kinda waiting for that 1.
Yeah it's coming, year ran away with me!
what happened to Mavis ? I sense foul play
This is what happens when you don’t use yoshimura exhaust,it should fit without all the extra adjustments
sir try topspeed please
Think for french traduction sorry for my english but why not yoshimura with Suzuki thank for the vidéo
Please can we have mavis back when you're in the garage
I use alcohol to clean the exhaust. Less smokey I think. yikes
Putting your bike shop mechanic’s hat on how much would it cost me to have you do that job? Pounds/Australian dollars ballpark?
It's a 4 hour job i would say Andy, think most shops charging around £40 an hour..
@@LambChopRides Pretty much what I thought though I’d expect they’d charge at least 6 for that. A very involved, intricate job, especially having to drain the radiator.
How can they make that and make a profit for £470, Absolutely fantastic quality and looks Beautiful 💖
It's made in China.
Every tester said these were 150BHP,they were nowhere near it...if you can buy any bike new today with a K5 motor over 130BHP, you're doing well! Uncorked and flashed, you might see around the 150 mark?
150HP engine = 135HP dyno
@MajorDrama1 Maybe on 95 or 98RON fuels...high 120's on 92
