  • I've been living, training, and fighting in China for the last three years. Here are a few tricks I've picked up. In mainland China, 散打 "Sanda" is Mandarin for "Free Fight". Many westerners know it by the name 散手"Sanshou", meaning "Free hand" in Mandarin. It's the exact same thing.
    Sanda is the Chinese national combat sport. All punches and kicks are allowed, as well as leg grabs, throws, and takedowns (provided that the attacking fighter remains standing). The sport of sanda was originally intended to be a platform for mixed martial arts competition between the numerous disciplines of Chinese kungfu. Today, many sanda fighters cross train in non-Chinese disciplines as well, including boxing, Muay Thai, taekwondo, kyokushin karate, Greco Roman wrestling, and judo among others.
    Many sanda throwing techniques transition very easily into the sport of modern Mixed Martial Arts when combined with basic positional wrestling skills. This combat sport is definitely worth investing some time and training for any serious mixed martial artist.

    Valuable techniques to know against kickers! What do you think of this now 7 years later? I’ve seen Cung Le pull these off in kickboxing matches, though I imagine it’s tricky against people who really know how to conceal their kicks. I guess every skill has its time and place.

    How did you get the opportunity to travel to China? And what was your primary purpose? Was it purely to study kickboxing, or did you have other agendas?
    I myself would love to go to a sanda camp and train for that amount of time.

    someone please answer my question, is the throw at 2.47 legal in a muay thai match? please someone respond?

    • @RamseyDewey
      @RamseyDewey  8 років тому +1

      Yes, it is, and it's fairly common. All throws and takedowns are legal in Muay Thai, as long as the fighter initiating the throw remains standing.

      Ramsey Dewey sorry i made a mistake in the video timing that im referring to.. i meant the one at 1.30.. the one at 2.47 i know its 100 % illegal in muay thai..

      Ah yes, the hip throw. Yes, that one is perfectly legal. It shocks a lot of people that you can hip throw from a leg grab like that. Same footwork and hip action as an o-goshi from judo.
