As someone who made a living working with steam pipes and recording temps to troubleshoot systems. Shooting shiny chrome will give you bogus numbers even shiny black gives bogus numbers . I carried a can of flat black spray paint to get accurate temps. If you want to compare before and after accurate temps with this cooler, the correct way would be to use a oil temp gauge with an oil temp sending unit.

I realize a lot of people love power. But there is a lot of negatives that come with it. Gimme an 80 inch Evo or Shovel. I put on many trouble free miles on these machines. You add some power on a Twin cam or Quad Valve.......next you go to chain drive......then maybe update the Trans...... then the cooling system never seems to be good enough. Then you get used to it and try to find more hoarse power. Ever notice when you haven't been able to ride for awhile it seems like your on a rocket. Then you get used to it........ I love my 2014 Street Glide for the comfort. I look at things to make it more reliable not necessarily faster. One of the best things Harley did was the belt final drive. Ive had three Evo's with this and put on over 100,000 miles on each one. I had a 1985 SUper Glide with the chain. It was a royal pain until I discovered O-ring chains. Eventually I traded to a 1987 Soft Tail. I loved the belt drive. Gimme an EVO with a belt drive......a mild cam......and S&S carburetor. To each his own.

I had my rear jug shut down other day due to overheating (running hard af on a 95* day… all hwy so lots of air hitting thst OEM cooler and the fins on the cyls). Took me a min to realize what happened. Thought I blew a head gasket or cracked a sleeve or piston .. felt and sounded like lost lots of compression.. motor felt like it was on a broken mount and sounded way wrong and lost half its power.
I shut it down when I got to the spot. Then was ok. Been fine since. Took me a bit to realize what happened.. rear cyl shut down fit.
So yea .. additional cooling just ran up to the top of the bike mod list.

Harley and Indian should have these products from the factory. On delivery of the bike. Why don't they do this. ? Potential liability. Someone would forget to clean or reinstall the metal screen oil filter element. Or at least a dozen other things could / would go wrong. That's why. And it's a shame.

I would like to preface by saying great video as always. It's been said that oil is the life blood of any engine and keeping it clean and cool will prolong the life of any internal combustion engine. I would advise anyone thinking of using any aftermarket product, especially ones that market their use as being "race proven", to keep in mind that engines used on the race track and engines being used on the street have very different requirements, engines used for racing usually get tore down and rebuilt or replaced after each race or just after a race or two, street engines are meant to last up to hundreds of thousands of miles before a rebuild. DO YOUR RESEARCH before installing a component that is designed for and regularly used on the race track on a street engine. I've personally thought about using that very oil filter but after some research, and I whole heartedly agree that the current 5 micron oil filters are somewhat restrictive, I decided to use K&N's oil filter, it's less restrictive filtering to 25 microns, freeing up a bit of power and lessons the need of going into bypass mode. Don't forget that even a reusable filter has certain requirements that a disposable won't, like making sure the filter pleats are completely clean and dry along with replacing the o-ring(a part that may not be available at your local parts store) before installation. Again, do your research before deciding what's best for you and your engine.

Thanks for sharing John. I like the solution of the ultracool kit but hate the execution. It is an ugly looking unit to have sticking out for all to see. There must be a better placement location.
There's no way I can see myself adding that to my bike. Just knowing that this kit exist is another testament to how poorly these bikes are designed. I love Harleys but I'll be damn if I'm going to add all of these ugly looking gadgets (including the Love Jugs) just to keep it running like all other bikes that don't require them.. I'll keep on splitting lanes until Harley hires an Indian designer. but good job John.. truly enjoy those videos. Learned a lot from them..

It’s the 30 micron filter that lets oil flow back to the sump has me concerned about dry starts.

@@rickbiggers4096 hard to say... this setup was installed on my 2020 Freewheeler that sumped and grenaded the engine at 8500 miles. I now use the HD oil temp/level dipstick on my current bike. I did not use that dipstick back then. my current bike does not have the relocation kit. my current bike has the HD oil cooler with their fan. yesterday I rode 15 miles in 95+ degree temps with some stop and go traffic. when I got home, my temp reading was 216*. with this combination I have only exceeded 230* one time. it read 231 after riding in 100+ degree weather for about 45 miles with stop and go traffic. I had some issues with the filter relocation kit before installation. I resolved those issues on my own. I chucked the hose/clamps that were supplied with the kit and used an AN fitting setup. costly, but much better in appearance and reliability. I had to make a tool to remove the engine case adapter as I could not get my hand in that tight space and generate enough torque to remove it. three issues with installation. the only place I could install it without major modifications was on the downtube where the factory information decal is on the left side. the mounting bracket absolutely destroyed the decal. secondly, there was a hard line that followed that same downtube from the top to the bottom. the spacing between the downtube and hard line was limited, which also limited the positioning options. accessing one of the bracket fasteners was almost impossible because it interfered with the cylinder head fins. torquing it tight was out of the question. trying to install the hose setup after installing the case adapter is a very difficult task. not one I found pleasure in. so, I installed the hoses on the adapter and then spun it to the case. it was clumsy and difficult. but I eventually got it to work. my guess is that it should help with cooling. however, I bought it mainly to make oil changes easier. I would never install this reusable filter in the horizontal position as it does not have an anti-drain back valve. I would be concerned about dry starts. best of luck : - )

Unfortunately, those handheld thermometers are somewhat inaccurate... to get a consistent reading you have to aim steadily and at a certain distance from the target. It is my understanding that the best place to take a head temp reading is at the left side spark plugs. Have you considered a dipstick thermometer? It will be interesting to see how loud those fans are when the bike is running. The true test will be in hotter temperatures and stop and go riding. I look forward to your next video to see the results. As I said before, I would be concerned about over cooling. My two cents. Best of luck :-)

Quick question, I know it's true that the paper filters do have restrictions, but isn't it the efficiency of the parts per million filtration benefits important too? What are the parts per million values of this filter versus a later filter?
I do want to get my 07 , 96 cube , TC to run cooler. I'm on a budget , so asking for a friend, 😎

The HD paper filter will filter down to 5 microns... however, paper filtering is not always consistent. The Flo filter filters down to 35 microns. However, it is consistently filtering at 35.

Zero filtration when in bypass & washes off particles that have been trapped and run back through the engine. This is a big issue on VTwins because of the heavy weight oil we have to use.

first of all you cant go by the parts king of the baggers use
their motors are always being torn down.which has nothing to
do with street riding.and second that flo filter i would not use
it doesn't capture all the particles like a k&n filter.but that cooler i like
they move lots of air and my 170 hp m8 needs lots of air.

I'm not sold on this thing. I still think it's a gimmick like these after market spark plugs that promise 10hp gains.
