One of if not their last big triumphant moments. I'm coming around to Adore and Machina, but this beautiful moment really feels like the true end of the original Smashing Pumpkins.

I saw SP in 2023 and they played the acoustic version with guitar only. it was still a great performance, but I gotta say I was really bummed to not hear the full instrumental version. this song is so grand and intensely emotional, especially with the string arrangement. just felt like I didn’t get the full experience

Good luck whoever was playing next
Rip
Rip sir
No bullshit this was epic all the way thru
I think the Fugees were the next group to perform.
😂❤❤❤❤❤❤ right🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
MTV needs to be subpoenaed to release this in higher quality
There used to be a HD version but it got taken down ☹️
The drums are what make this song. Of course there's other factors but the drums are amazing
Chamberlin's performance when this aired is precisely what made me fall in love with the song.
@@jarodeddy859 it's not him
One of the greatest performances of alltime. Absolutely LEGENDARY!
Back in the days when MTV actually mattered.
Unfortunately, not enough viewers would watch to keep the format going
My favorite live version of tonight, tonight
Me too.
What I would give just to see this live one more time with the strings and the original band members.
I miss the 90's
We all do friend.
The reason these guys are so good is because they all know what they’re doing on their instruments
Omg I remember when I saw this for the first time and my whole world was SHATTERED! This was when MTV, VMA was LIFE!
yeah people were talking about this at school the next day lol
I wonder if this was the same night where twas just them and Foo Fighters that went head to head. That MTV VMA was savage.
Same here i was so excited to see them perform
I proudly say I watched MTV when it still mattered and the Smashing Pumpkins we’re still on top of their game!
The one moment in time when the smashing pumpkins own the world 🌎
Jesus, you forget how good they were. Pure class. Timeless.
This was mind blowing if you saw it live.
“Time…is never time at all” ……ummm took me years to realize how fucking deep that line is. Doesn’t get more godly/universal than that.
I remember how awesome it was with the live orchestra
I witnessed this live on TV when I was 14. It was a magical performance!
This is one of those songs that I can't listen to without getting teared up or full out crying 🎵 I love it so much.
I am literally crying
Just beautiful man. What a great performance. That has to be one of the more difficult songs to drum.
And it wasnt even the original drummer Jimmy Chamberland. His tech crushed it just as good!
So sad I will never get to see a version with the orchestra live as well as the full lineup including Jimmy chamberlin
God (or anyone appropiate) bless the 90s; what a time we had!!
Magic
I think it's simply masterful!!!
One of if not their last big triumphant moments. I'm coming around to Adore and Machina, but this beautiful moment really feels like the true end of the original Smashing Pumpkins.
It was already falling apart. That isn’t Jimmy chamberlain on drums 😉

You are wrong. Chamberlin was out since July of 1996 when Melvoin died.
My youth 🖤🖤
Time is never time at all
You can never ever leave
Without leaving a piece of youth
And our lives are forever changed
We will never be the same
The more you change, the less you feel
Believe
Believe in me
Believe, believe
That life can change
That you're not stuck in vain
We're not the same, we're different
Tonight
Tonight
Tonight, so bright
Tonight
Tonight
And you know you're never sure
But you're sure you could be right
If you held yourself up to the light
And the embers never fade
In your city by the lake
The place where you were born
Believe
Believe in me
Believe, believe
In the resolute urgency of now
And if you believe there's not a chance
Tonight
Tonight
Tonight, so bright
Tonight
Tonight
We'll crucify the insincere tonight
(Tonight)
We'll make things right, we'll feel it all tonight
(Tonight)
We'll find a way to offer up the night
(Tonight)
The indescribable moments of your life
(Tonight)
The impossible is possible tonight
(Tonight)
Believe in me as I believe in you
Tonight
Tonight, tonight
Tonight
Tonight
Imagine seeing and Champagne Supernova on the same night
I'd love to be there
and then the show ends with the newly reunited KISS performing under the brooklyn bridge, this VMA was STACKED!!!
@@JaySchraubMusic amazing!
@@JaySchraubMusic 1996 was indeed an EPIC year for the VMA's.
I’d listened to SP for yrs, and this album for a long time, but this live did something to me. Euphoric catharsis the last minute.
even mindblowing when it played live
Epic. Period.
That drummer is something else
Incredibly that wasn’t even their regular drummer. Jimmy Chamberlain was out, for some reason. He does it even better and makes it look so easy.
Yeah, he was out because somebody died by his side. Heroin.
How's this only had 55k views in ELEVEN YEARS!!!!! Sorry I just found that veryyyyy surprising
Love this song so much... amazing lyrics by Billy!
ABSOLUTE LEGENDS

Simplemente espectacular, sublime... 👌
1996 finally
That time when the drummer from Filter stepped in for Chamberlain
Obra maestra para la eternidad. Debió haber sido banda sonora de alguna película
for a james bond would be perfect
I love this clasical version
The drummer flys!!!!
Absolutely LEGENDARY!
Beautiful
Fantastic performance.
Fenomenal interpretación ❤❤❤

Bel video! amo questo live!!
Maestoso!
I remember watching this that year. I know they got nominations. But I don't remember if they won a VMA
James Iha ever so classy
Yeh I’m digging the white suit and the rickenbacker such a good combo
Best band ever
Drums never really hit me, but these drums are special altogether
このトゥナイトトゥナイトが一番好き
Speaks for it's self
Matt Walker filled in for Jimmy nicely.
Hard to imagine Billy going from a Great Band to Part owner of a Wrestling company 😆
Hell raiser

Does anyone have a good quality version of this performance?
Not the same without Jimmy.
Great performance but I expected the crowd to be more pumped than that.
Incredible performance. Too bad MTV could only use a potato to film it at the time.
this song influenced so many Japanese artists and composers
Could you share some of those artists and composers please? I’d be interested in checking them out

is that matt cameron on drums?
Matt Walker.
Where's Jimmy?
He had been fired from the band a few months earlier for drug use.
