If you want to take a closer look at the actual monsters, i recommend you watch "The Nature of Monster Hunter World | Full Ecology Documentary" By Oceaniz. Its a long one, but worth it
My fav part of Monster Hunter Lore is the GIANT hunters that existed in ancient times that dwarf jeagers and took on Eldridge monstrosities that were bigger than Godzilla
WOOO I LOVE WATCHING NEWCOMING FANS DIVING INTO MONSTER HUNTER LORE! I'll be looking out for your future monster hunter dive videos! And your editor picked one of the best channels for monster hunter lore. Oceaniz is a really talented storyteller for the entire MH community
One thing I wish this lore video had addressed: The world of monster hunter isn't a world of human progress -- it is a world of *rebuilding*. It is a POST-APOCALYPSE setting. Everything in Monster Hunter is hundreds, or perhaps even thousands, of years after an apocalyptic event that killed the vast majority of humanity and set the survivors back to the stone age. In older games, there's a bigger focus on the mysteries of the ancient civilization as well, with the guild tasking you with bringing back any artifacts that you salvage while out on quests. Two weapons, switchaxes and chargeblades, rely on ancient technology to create and function (dynamos, motors, rotors, portable power sources, etc.) making them a scarce occurrence reserved for only the more adept hunters in a region. Other artifacts that you can bring back are legitimately just guns (i.e. the "God's Isle") -- technology long lost to the survivors and barely understood in function, but restored and adapted for use by hunters that find them. What little we know of the ancient civilization is this: they were at least as technologically advanced as modern humans, if not moreso, and the cause of their downfall isn't truly known, but likely stemmed from their hubtis, or an attempt at total dominion over even the elder dragons. (There's also evidence suggesting that the current day Hunters are descended from genetically modified super soldiers that survived the apocalypse, hence their superhuman strength and endurance.) The lore rabbit hole goes deep.
It also killed the vast majority of monsters. All the scant lore about it mentions it was just a world wipe. It's the reason the Guild is entirely built around maintaining balance. Their core tenet is to prevent the calamity repeat.
The best thing about Monster Hunter as you will find when you look into monsters: They are designed for their environments - You can see how they would be adaptable - and they behave like actual animals their size would. The lore of the many monsters is vast, but it is well worth it in the end.
The one you seemed the most interested in based on reaction alone was Coral Highlands which is from Monster Hunter World, which ironically is regarded as one of the best games in terms of immersion and getting you to experience the world and it's ecosystem. A lot of vets wouldn't suggest it as your first MH game, but it is the most popular MH game in the franchise. And honestly I think it's a good game to start with, removes a lot of the jank from the older games, and gives you a hunting experience that the others don't.
Still, it isn't the best to start with. It has a lot of its own jank compared to old MH. Most of the jank of the old games are really understandable limitations, while in MHW, it has choices into the game that has nothing to do with limitation. Like all the honing and farming involved with it, much more than older games... Or the jank on actually enjoying story quests with friends, having to view cutscenes and abandoning to join the friends quest. Or even the autoscroll missions, or prolonged and forced dialogue and cutscenes, with even the tutorial taking about 3 hours... I could keep saying the negatives here, but MHW has a lot of positives as well, like older games, which also has negative and positive stuff. Although, my recommendation would always be MHP3rd/MHFU if you can face the old and brutal times... Some prefer MHGU first to enjoy all of that old charm but a little bit easier and with more polish. Or MH4U first, if you want to go into MHW ready and prepared, after having conquered all the different places in the old world. Going from 4U to World must be something magical, since its just the natural evolution of the base gameplay there, without any special skills or deviants that do insane stuff. But fr, world has a big problem that after playing it, most of its players don't consider playing any other mh. Thinking that it would be much different, while in fact, its not that different, the whole franchise is amazing on its own...
@@TGHunterI'd say MHP3rd and MH4U are probably the best choices. P3rd has enough of the old school jank that a lot of older players like, while not as punishing as FU is to most newcomers. While I personally enjoy 3U a little more, I wouldn't subject a newcomer to underwater combat. Personally got in with 4U, so I have a massive bias towards it. The village quests do a good job of easing players in, while giving the npcs enough personality to actually care about them. I don't think I could've gotten into Monster Hunter without the village quests. Also has my favorite monster roster, with only 2 monsters I hate hunting in the game.
@@absollum Gravios and Cephadrome haunt me there in 4U. But yea, P3rd is a solid base for "default MH", while 4U has one of the best progression in the franchise, although challenging, the game is solid to hook you in.
Dude, same, I avoided MonHun for so long because I wanted to hug the dragons instead of hunt them but the ecology and gamelay loop is just so good! Def recommend more of their stuff.

10:00 "Why only four? Doesn't it make sense that if there's like this big monster, don't you want to send like 40 guys at them" Can't wait for him to learn about the origin of the lore reason for the four hunter restriction and Laviente.
@@dhisufiroafrozenseraphimdragon The lore behind the 4 hunter restriction is that before the Guild was officially established, there was a party of 5 hunters which included the Kokoto Village Chief and his fiancé. In what was probably their first hunt with 5 hunters, they went to hunt a Lao or Monoblos which resulted in his fiancé’s death. After that, it was considered bad luck to go into quests with 5 hunters as one is always sure to die. The 4 hunter rule was implemented into the guild's general rule of thumb when it was established. We see a small example of the 5 hunter "bad luck" in 4U when you (the player) and the 4 Ace hunters fight a Rusted Kushala Daora, making 5 hunters in total. This made one of them overconfident believing they already killed it and getting too close and nearly dies himself. There are exceptions like some quests that permit 8 hunters, but the most obvious exception I know of is Berserk Laviente, which allows the max number of 32 hunters at a time. Honestly, it’s fun stuff to learn about. So I recommend looking up some of the quests. Sorry for the long explanation
@theconquestking6507 I'm the one who asked for the explanation. No worries. In the animated MH movie on Netflix, I thought one of the characters mentioned something about this but I'm not sure. Two characters did die in that movie.
@@dhisufiroafrozenseraphimdragon yeah, and if I remember correctly, they ended up having 5 hunters fighting at the very end. So I guess that is another good example.

OH LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOO MONSTER HUNTER PEAK GAME !!!! if people think the lore is hard to find in Souls games, they're not ready for Monster Hunter, it's on a whole other level
Fun fact, anytime there would be 5 ppl during a hunt there would always be some sort of accident, with one of them always dying. Thus making a rumor of the curse of 5.
Hearing Nux explain about how the series is also about Human growth and how different things including technology evolves from things being discovered is great because the games themselves have showcased this with each generation of Monster Hunter from Freedom Unite/2G and on. A distinct advancement in the human prowess and technology has been the new weapon types that have been introduced like the Longsword in the 2nd Gen, Switch Axe in the 3rd Gen, and both Insect Glaive & Charge Blade in the 4th Gen.
The easiest comparison I can offer for the guild and how it maintains the ecology of most normal wyvern and dragons is how, you might use controlled burns to minimize the impact of forest fires, and they are also the people tasked with putting out fires, but Elder Dragons are more along the lines of forces of nature, you can exactly (or rather, you can’t easily) stop a volcanic eruption, or a typhoon. So when someone kills a “Lunastra” and their city becomes famous, it’s because someone physically halted a “typhoon”.
44:28 the reason the fish all died is indeed due to an Elder Dragon. Specifically, the Dire Mirallis, a monster whose body runs at such a high temperature, that it belly-flopped into the sea to cool off, and the sudden temperature spike killed off the fish. 1:09:11 from what little I remember from MH World, the term “Elder Dragon” is mostly given to monsters that are either A; So powerful that they’re considered “living natural disaster,” or B; too damn weird to be neatly slotted into any other category.
I love how excited you are about this game series! Monster hunter is an old series that has a lot of great hidden lore outside of videos like this, some head cannon but still great stuff that can fit in really well. Also if you see this look up how powerful is the monster hunter hunter
I believe those "Tome" as you have described are disciplinary tools that parents, guardians, and teachers use on children. They slow dain the patience and will power of those who gaze upon them, and if a child is able to stay sane after being forces to look at them for a long time, the adults can simply use the percussive feature of the "Tome" to finish the job. 13:34

About time he delved into monster hunter lore. Based editor
Monster hunter is one of my favourite series, i have thousands of hours played on only a few of the games
Please keep going with the lore Lord Nuxalore
Also you know a game is based when your fascination with it ends up making you enjoy chemistry and biology. In school
"Is that some sort of bat panther. and it despawned!"
At first i was surprised, then i took a closer look at what monster it is, and well... it didn't actually despawn, i love Lucid Nargacuga
Fun fact about Guild knight armor: Its believed that its deck out with specific skills not seen in other armors, so the one the player gets its nothing more than a replica.
If you want to take a closer look at the actual monsters, i recommend you watch "The Nature of Monster Hunter World | Full Ecology Documentary" By Oceaniz. Its a long one, but worth it
Each monster also has its own musical theme, which is a representation of the monsters mental state.
The classic, "EVERY FIGHT IS A BOSS" series.
Well, well, well , if it ain't Lord Nuxanor.
What bring you to this humble videogame series?
Can't wait for Nux to see the "forbidden episode."
Cue the the fans for riffing on the Great Dragon War and the Equal Dragon Weapon.
I will say Oceaniz has amazing videos of the biology of Monster Hunter, I especially love his videos on World specifically.
One thing I wish this lore video had addressed:
The world of monster hunter isn't a world of human progress -- it is a world of *rebuilding*.
(There's also evidence suggesting that the current day Hunters are descended from genetically modified super soldiers that survived the apocalypse, hence their superhuman strength and endurance.)
The lore rabbit hole goes deep.
27:14 we got em boys. Anothr mh fan is born 😊😊
Dude, same, I avoided MonHun for so long because I wanted to hug the dragons instead of hunt them but the ecology and gamelay loop is just so good! Def recommend more of their stuff.
Fun Fact: Oceaniz used to be a (mostly) My Hero Academia Analysis Channel.
But everything changed when the Fire Nation Atta...... i mean..... when Act 3 happened.
Lmao
We need nux to play monster hunter world ice born just so he can fight fatalis
10:00 "Why only four? Doesn't it make sense that if there's like this big monster, don't you want to send like 40 guys at them"
Can't wait for him to learn about the origin of the lore reason for the four hunter restriction and Laviente.
I've been playing MH for years and don't know why there's a 4 hunter restriction. Care to share?
Fun fact: Every hunter is a speedrunner they all exisr to hint monsters as fast as possible, by spending all their time hinting
I NEED MORE REACTIONS TO THIS MESS MAAAAAAAAAAN
Please Nux do a deep dive on the monsters, most of them are really fun and amazing.
The funny thing about calling the monkey monster monkey king is that the rajang is based on goku thats based on the monkey king
The admiral is based off of a rajang (or is a rajang in a human costume) who is based off of goku, who is based off of the monkey king, who is apparently based off of hanuman, who is a hindu god
Note that guilds you see in a lot of fiction take their inspiration from Monster Hunter. Monster Hunter is huge in japan and inspired many.
I need nux to get into Kingdom hearts, so Day 31 and a half of asking Nuxanor to react to "Timeline: Kingdom Hearts" by Gametrailers or "The complete Kingdom Hearts timeline explained" by LimitForm72 or "Kingdom Hearts Story - Summary" by sugestive gaming
Then the Kirby Lore, by The RPG Monger
(Or the ben 10 timeline video, by ink tank)
@@justicesplanet5958didn't he already do Kirby lore
@@justicesplanet5958 he already did Kirby lore
@user-ot4bw9li8n oh wait he did, and I apparently watched it, guess I forgot my bad
KH lore would break Nux. Not because it's difficult, it's not,but it's better understood through gameplay. Sucks that the whole series is across 9 different systems lol.
somehow this was the most wholesome i have seen nux be. MOAR LORE VIDEOS PLS
Please play Wilds when it comes out
There are also spin-off games called Monster Hunter stories about a tribe of Monster tamers. The animation for those games are like kid friendly anime with cute little monsters.
23:55 he said the thing
I'd love to see you do a deep dive on the monsters or make a reaction series to lore videos of individual monsters! I know of several great ones I could give you a list for!
Next is best UA-camr 👍🏾
There are some videos that are written in character as a hunter's journal. Reading how they break down in facing a Black Dragon is morbidly entertaining.
HE'S A SIMPLE GENTLE SAILOR
Monster hunter lore is scattered every where but making a overal theme that is amazing, giving them freedom with only following the overall world story. The fact you are watching this makes me so happy, it’s my favorite series. The games are so fun and beating monsters is even more fun
MONSTER HUNTER LET'S GO!!!
YESSS!! my two favorite things! nux and Monster Hunter! LETS GO!!!
Also - nux - monster hunter WIlds comes out in February-ish. We can't wait to see you playing it. Let us hunt with you!
Day 3 of asking Nux to do another reaction of Middle Earth lore
Monster hunter: came for the gameplay loop, stayed for the lore....
and the sick armor.
Also play MH world first, definitely the best starting point.
I'd argue its only one of the best starting points but yeah, mhw is a solid starting point (can't wait for mhwilds).
OH LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOO
MONSTER HUNTER PEAK GAME !!!!
if people think the lore is hard to find in Souls games, they're not ready for Monster Hunter, it's on a whole other level
Fun fact, anytime there would be 5 ppl during a hunt there would always be some sort of accident, with one of them always dying. Thus making a rumor of the curse of 5.
MONSTER GENOCIDE LETS GOOOOOO
I hope we get more monster hunter lore vids soon
....why is it not 10k likes CMON HUNTERS WE NEED TO SPREAD THE LORE BEFORE WE VENTURE INTO THE WILDS🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
You will absolutely love monster hunter it is an amazing series of games with even better lore. and oceaniz has a bunch of videos on mh lore
Also if you see this look up how powerful is the monster hunter hunter
just wait till nux finds out what happens to hunters who slay a fatalis and wear its armor
The blood sea is caused by a large dragon that emits so much heat it needs an entire sea to cool down...
I love that you're covering Monster Hunter lore, there is so much of it, there's 20 years worth of monsters and civilizations falling and like 30 games all that you can cover across the Monster Hunter series and then every single one of them has monsters that are specific to those games and all of them have lore every single monster has ecology and backstory and why they do the things they do
There is a full ecollogy series that i love especially the hidden episodes
Im so happy Nux is covering on of my favorite franchises ever
40:31 valstrax is the inspiration for radahns star fall attack, fight me🤣🤣
Sure as well got my vote to dive into the monsters themselves. Oceaniz has several vids for specific monsters that are great too.
FINALLY! Based editor! Monster Hunter is peak, I’m a 5er (Riser)!
