@@richardschneiderjr.5878 he is doing pretty well now in the most current video, I can tell.. he almost first try every boss with 2 predictable exceptions, anja and odogaron, cut him some slack
My favourite part was Asmon not understanding that the most recent item added to his inventory would occupy the next open slot (which in this case was on the second page), and then proceeding to mald about the ui for 10 minutes
@@NewsofPE yep. that's why we're not professional gamers boys. that's how its done. we also dont have thin enough skin since we have to go outside regularly
I enjoy watching him at times and not some other times... when hes like that he shows he's just a grown child who can't admit he makes mistakes. He didn't have the common sense to flip to the second page to see the rest of his inventory and then starts bashing the game and people defending it saying he had a dumb moment. He does this often while streaming. When he does I just go make some food and come back after he's done crying. He doesn't have good social skills. So he defends himself in a toxic way at any attack on his understanding of something. His problem is he rushes and doesn't take the time to read or fully understand what he's doing in alot of games. Just bashes something when it doesn't seem like it's spot on for him. He lacks humbleness and the ability to say im dumb and I made a goof. That's my biggest issue with him as a streamer.
He admited that he is a slow learner and susceptible to a tunnel vision at times which is quite normal. The UI is not the worst or the best. It's just usable and actually quite capable for such a complex game. He keep missing the green E icon indicating the equipped weapon and assume that the menu will automatically focus on his current equipment and then the drama.
By no means is Asmon stupid and its true its not beginner friendly, but it is a good UI. Honestly I can say the same for myself with Elder Ring. I feel like its UI is one of the worst I've seen, yet there are those that love it and think its great.
@@asumax8 the ui is ok, but the weapon upgrade/forging is complete ass for a new player, it's designed like shit and confusing, the only clear part are the lines go from upgrade to upgrade so you clearly know what previous weapon you need for it, but that's it. i didn't struggle a lot with it, but i was pretty fucking annoyed looking at it trying to figure it out.
@@Myhaay I can see it being annoying for new players, especially since it is so different from the standard style used in games, but I can't really give a fully unbiased opinion because I never had trouble understanding it, even when I first started playing MH games. Definitely can use some improvements, such as clearer indicators and some better color coding, but I don't want it fully revamped to suit new/beginning players. Thats a rabbit hole that generally in games leads to the dreaded "streamlining" which for the most part ruins games
The odogaron fight had some really cool moments. The thing enrages and he manages to dodge everything while still consistently hitting him. Very impressive.
I have thousands of hours in the game. I was super impressed on how he handled that fight, especially the first time he tried it on his last life after two carts. The dude played as the best new player I've seen, dodging, hitting, and choosing to retreat at right times to re engage. He almost took Odogaron down on from full health on that last life, but died to being stunned. Amazing stuff.
@@johnway8819This game is awesome. As my first MH game, I almost didn't die as I got the mechanics very quickly, so it's insane to see other people play and don't use the same methods, itens, or armor level to fight the monsters. Honestly, six years ago I became a huge fan of MH, and I'm super happy to see how the community cares for new players. Asmon is doing his absolute best, and even dying a lot, no one takes him down, it's the exact opposite. I love this community and game so much.
02:35:00 Okey, that was really frustrating to watch. Asmon literally knew from the beginning he needed to forge a new greatsword. He knew exactly that there are 2 different menus. One for crafting a new weapon and one for upgrading a weapon. Given that he forged a new sword, he should've known that he has 2 different greatswords in his inventory now. The fact that he couldn't think about it more logically and kept clicking his old greatsword INSIDE THE UPGRADE MENU was just infuriating.
And then he blamed the UI, then called everyone stupid and banned people who disagreed with him. This was not rocket science to understand. This is my only MH game and I understood it instantly b/c I can read and see what happens.
@@MarineCARMINE I don't blame him for banning people who insulted him though, unless he banned people getting frustrated over him not thinking right or defending the game when his ego couldn't handle him being wrong.
Asmon was right about the UI the first time but the second time was just him not wanting to admit he had a brain fart. He literally forged a NEW weapon and then presses on the weapon he was just using. That’s how you know he’s not paying attention to the names or look of the weapon
This was the only part that has made me sad while watching so far. It is pretty overwhelming UI. But I feel that can happen when you have ACTUAL complexity. It could probably be better tho, and i hope it gets that way.
iono... im looking at the menus from other streamers as well... and it just looks stupid? its just not QOL streamlined... and there is zero reason for it not to be?
The issue isn't that he thought the UI was bad. Who cares if the UI sucks or he's confused? The issue was his chatters as usual throwing insults which just made him mad, and then the MH fans stubbornly saying his opinion on UI is dumb.
@@inigogreenall764 It wasn't even a UI problem though. As he should. If you need to post instructions on how to open you door then you need a new design for your door. For example, a door that can only be pushed shouldn't have a handle.
@@DuvalRypr I'm not making excuses for him. I left my own comment talking about how he'd save himself a ton of time and grief if he read what was right in front of him. My point was ole Popcorn Boy made a bad analogy.
@@TheThomasBarryIf you post a one word instruction for a door and you can’t known it then learn how to read. It’s not a manual on how to open the door, it just tells you the direction to apply force if you can’t do that then your lazy
@@jumping_beanz6209 If you can't bother to design a door to be intuitive then you're* lazy. The point is bad design is bad design, even if you slap instructions on it. The fact that a door would even need to tell you how to use it is proof in itself. Has nothing to do with the person using the door being lazy or not. It's about the user experience and a Norman Door (google it) is the most common example of poor design negatively affecting the user. This applies to everything, including video games. If you don't see any issues, fine, you're clearly not a designer, no biggie, but you are still affected by poor design most likely every day. To me, laziness is just accepting those poor design choices and not bothering to try and fix them.
So nostalgic watching someone go thru this game for the first time and enjoy the same experiences all us veterans have. Calling the Diablos dumb while you catch it, that smile and laugh, the focus look, the appreciation of the environment. This is my favorite game of all time. Grind it up Asmon, it only gets more glorious as it goes. Become the greatsword God you were ment to be!
I really feel like there is something special about monster hunter world Rise Obviously has a lot of quality of life improvements and some fancy mechanics. But I don't think it's as good of an experience.
@Animedingo I refuse to play rise, I started on MH4. Mastered MHW. I'll be waiting for a new console version on the styling of MHW, untill then I have many beautiful memories of my times in the lobbies. Conquering the world, becoming Gods, going back and helping newcomers, collecting everything. Never got old lol, I only stopped a couple years ago because I had every Armour set and every weapon set for every Iceborne monster. Grinded Alatreon till I was soloing him, same with Fatalis. I could go on and on about why this game will always rank number 1 for me.
At the UI section rn and I’m kinda pissed off that he’s banning people for calling him an idiot, mainly because they’re right. Slow down and read EVERYTHING especially the tutorials, they tell you literally everything that you are getting pissed off about.
He was banning people randomly, he banned alot of normal chatters just trying to help him navigate the UI for some reason. Total ego butthurt, just agree with him next time, he must be always right.
Dude the improvement between the first odo fight and the second is really impressive. He's doing VERY well for a greatsword user that isn't using flash pods and traps.
As a greatsword main myself I'm more impressed that he's easily clearing monster after monster without using the shoulder bash at all. The two things that make the greatsword great are the true charge slash and the shoulder bash. So he is literally not using the defensive/utility part of the weapon at all.
man I can't understand, every item occupies one single item slot, then he crafts another item, so it would be located obviously in another item slot, because now he has 2 greatswords rather than 1, but instead he proceeds to keep clicking to upgrade the older sword, and then blames the game's UI. I mean, wtf I'm not a genius but I never ever had trouble with this game's UI, but seeing him playing makes me think that maybe I am
@@fabiopascoal5023 so did I and I never had this problem because like like in any game if you craft a new weapon it’s going to obviously occupy a new slot
To the people that said he'll never play this game again, we're on episode 3! Love that you're enjoying the game Asmon! Edit:Fixed the name lmao my bad 😂
Hard disagree with Asmongold on the blacksmith UI. It is not garbage that the UI has tabs and that your most recent gear goes to the next empty slot, that's how inventory works in 99% of RPG's. His problem was that he kept selecting his old sword instead of the one he bought and equipped because he never bothered to look where the new sword was in his inventory. Don't get me wrong, the UI in a lot of instances IS bad and unintuitive, that just happens to not be one of them.
Calling him stupid is a bit much, but his rant was a bit egotistical. He is correct in his own opinion, but it is not a fact that the UI is crap. The symbols show what you have equipped with a giant green "E" as well as a bright blue line that leads to the next weapon. I would still agree with his opinion if he feels that the smithy weapon system is complicated for newcomers since he is, in fact, a newcomer. I have played games that have a worse UI, but to each their own, so if he feels it's crap then he feels it's crap. Eventually, he will get used to it and possibly change his perspective, but if not, he has that right.
Personally, I do think the UI is complete trash. I do think every menu is conveluted and unintuative. The gameplay gets me through it. But I do find the menu's very tedious. However, the thing that made him go off was just his fault lol.
Asmon is really incapable of just admitting to mistakes. Seriously, what’s so wrong with the newest Equipment you get being put into the closest empty inventory slot(which being the last slot)? I’m pretty sure that’s just common game sense in this day and age.
Yup, but also imagine being frustrated for not being able to understand a basic thing, then having thousands of voices explain (incorrectly) the situation, for them to then call you stupid. Of course, he misunderstood, yes the system is dated, its menus from fucking psp ERA, but people shouldve just tried to explain it simply (Page two, last item) rather than "Wrong sword kekw" wtf does "wrong sword" mean to someone outside of the MH world? "Not great sword..."
@@lgod5899 I wouldn’t call it trash. I wouldn’t call it great but I’ve seen worse so to call it garbage as in throw it away never to use again is arguably wrong. Could it be better yes. Is there better yes. But is it absolutely dog water trash. Ehhh a bit harsh.
I feel like he was right the first time mentioning that the UI is more tuned for controllers, which I agree, but this one was just painful to watch his ego flare up. If he just spends abit of time tuning his item loadouts, selling shit he doesn't use, I can promise that he'll enjoy the game more. MHW has provided so much quality of life features to its UI. Saying the UI isn't intuitive is such a brain dead take. This is some of the best i've seen in game design, period.
2:31:14 The part that was confusing was the fact that the two greatswords he had equipped and selected to upgrade where both highlighted in the same weapon plane one quick tip for anyone reading this is that you can easily sort your armor and weapons at the item box - and then click the weapon you want to upgrade at the smithy but I can't agree that the UI is trash, confusing to a degree of course but you just need to take a moment and understand what the problem is. (Edit: the weapon you select will be highlighted in a flashing blue highlight telling you which weapon you have selected to downgrade or upgrade)
I think the issue with Asmongold is the moment something is not any level of 1 click and done and confuses him, he gets extremely upset and cries about it
Bro seeing asmon go crazy over the fact that he can't figure out that he made a 2nd Greatsword and then blaming the menu for not finding it was so funny

This UI is very easy to understand. U made a new sword and u selected the old one. The equipped one always has a green E next to it. How is it that hard to understand? Back in 2018 when this game came out nobody had an issue with. It is simply simple.
@2:34:35 gives a long winded explanation about BAD UI, instead of admitting he made a small mistake by not checking the next page on the Equipment menu, and then blames it on Legacy logic/Gamer logic or whatever. 😅
It’s a bad UI from PSP screen limitation. This is world and on pc and developer decided not to upgrade the item box size, waste of time going through pages. 5 pages of items in a 6x6 grid U can tell me wats good about ur small bag slot design. It’s bad that’s why RISE improved on it. Admit it
@@evotemplar sure, its not the greatest UI and his first take, I agree with, but his "logical" thinking in this vod was that since he has a weapon equipped it should then, when chosing "ANY" GS in his inventory, would allow him to upgrade the equipped weapon. This thought process is understandable, until you consider that he CRAFTED a SEPERATE weapon right before upgrading, which suggests that you need to specifically choose which weapon to upgrade whether or not you have the weapon equipped or not. This should have then made his mind go "ok since there are now two weapons, I need to choose the one that I just crafted" but, he had a brainfart and forgot. The reason why people are mad about this whole issue is because he simply fails to admit that fact that he just forgot and instead blamed the Armory UI which was not at fault.
The nostalgia I’m feeling watching this guy on his first play through is insane. Maybe I’ll pick up the game once again. I already had 1300 hours on it. A little more wouldn’t hurt.
I just recently redownloaded it after not playing after 2018. After being away for so long, i didnt know what to do at first either so i started a new character and just started playing through it again. For Real though? That final Rathalos Engagement was absolutely FLAWLESS. Seriously impressive considering this is his 2nd day playing Monster Hunter. Genuinely impressive!
2:31:20 Asmon is just 100% wrong about the forge system. Dude didnt take a couple seconds to pay attention to what he was doing, clicking on his old Greatsword and not moving to the next page to click on the one he just made to upgrade. And not admitting his own mistake he instead chose to blame the system for something that was 100% his fault
Or spiky boi. That will be certainly a wall he runs into. Just like i did. God, it felt so good beating it the first time. More satisfying than the endbooss to be honest.
I got ban from Asmon stream some time ago, he was playing New World, blaming the mechanics of the game, saying the game was bad because there was no tell when the boss is going to use a specific mechanics. A lot of people shown him that was not the game's problem, there is a learning curve. He simple refuse to admit he is wrong, he is always right and ban everyone that disagrees. But anyway, his stream, his rules, I still enjoy the videos
I agree that menu is not good. Not even on console. There's no excuse. But the problem with Asmon being unable to upgrade a new weapon is his fault, not the game's. He should realize his mistake. He has weapon A and crafts and equips weapon B. Then he goes to the upgrade menu and out of habit he clicks on weapon A to upgrade weapon B and wonders why it doesn't work. The E represents that you have it equipped, not that you have correctly selected it to upgrade. He could have avoided this by reading the name of the weapon and paying attention to its appearance but he rushes through everything and blames the game. It's really great that he's playing the game and I hope he finishes it too. It's a lot of fun to watch. i love it.

2:30:30 Why does he get mad at the UI? He crafts the Buster Sword 1 (To upgrade it to Buster Sword 2) and then he says "oh i need to upgrade it now." But then he Starts trying to upgrade the Buster Blade 1 to the Buster Sword 2. He just Selected the Wrong Weapon. How is that the games fault, he even knew what to do but he didnt notice that he had selected the wrong weapon to upgrade.
I agree that seeing the whole weapon tree for every weapon type is weird when you’re upgrading your one specific weapon, but to select the weapon you want to upgrade is formatted like literally every other game out there. Upgrade Equipment -> Select the thing you want to upgrade -> Click upgrade. This issue that he ran into would have happened in literally every other game where you can have 2 weapons from the same part of the weapon tree. He even knew he equipped the new sword and that equipped items show a massive green E on them. Calling the UI dumb for making a mistake that he would have made in literally every other game out there regardless of the UI means that particular issue was entirely on him.
This guy had 3 sessions so far and he's steadily grasping the timings for his weapon. He's landing his TCS more often now and added waking up monsters with a TCS bonk on the head to his repertoire. Cutting off a tail with a GS never gets old even after 4 generations of MonHun.
@@HelloImCrimson Come on, GS is anything but an "ez clap" weapon on a game with monsters flying and darting around. Reserve that for 5th gen Long Sword.
@@thenameless422 I always thought ez clap weapon was Hammer, as I beat the end game with hammer. Now I came back to this game after finishing Rise with longsword. Am starting from new with longsword, I just beat Diablo. Still, Hammer for me was way easier than Longsword. But, I need to learn longsword. Basically all weapons are pretty easy clap if you learn them. The game is not that hard, it's just immersive 1 on 1 with a big enemy. Also to add, GS actually fits Asmon style perfectly. He is slow, want big damage, and least mechanics to learn (also loves big swords).
Odogaron is by far my favorite monster in the game. I use to use an insect glaive and fighting Odogaron with it is like dancing. Move and counter move. I switched over to using a heavy crossbow and still love fighting them, but nothing beats the beauty of an insect glaive verses an Odogaron
the whole UI thing when upgrading the sword was so painful lmao once you upgrade an item one time you understand the whole upgrade system for the entire game
Asmongold literally doesn't understand a menu, which is no big deal people have their moments. Rather than say oh I get it now. Proceeds to insist he fully understands the thing he didnt understand and its just stupid. The UI isnt one of the best but its fine and perfectly understandable. It's just that he hasnt been "learning slowly" but actively fighting against learning, as illustrated by the fact that hes 20 hours into the game and only knows how to use a single move. People 1/3 his age have been intuiting this "unintuitive" UI for 20 years. Its just hardcore tunnel vision, his disregard for every attempt by the game to teach him anything, and the stress of learning on stream tripped him up. Which as I said is perfectly fine, but his ego just wouldn't let him admit that a new item going into the first empty slot of your storage is actually as intuitive as it gets. What he was having a fit over is like someone who got to Blackrock Depths using only auto attacks picking up a new peice of gear, opening only their first bag and insisting its stupid that his first bag is full and the loot ended up in his second bag which he never learned to open.
When you're fighting in the Rotten Vale, in the part with rhe miasma (the yellow mist that reduces your health bar), shoot slinger torch on the ground and the mist will disappear for a couple of minutes. This should make it easier fighting in these nasty areas. Slinger torch pods are scattered all across the Rotten Vale.
Jesus christ I've always thought of Asmon as someone with a lot of self awareness and aware of his own biases, but that whole "menu is trash" debacle was the most painful watches I've had to endure from him period. He can't even imagine being wrong, crazy.
the menu itself is very bad he isn't wrong, that's why they changed it in rise. Having to go back and select the weapon you want to upgrade instead of just select the weapon in the grid is dumb.
@@bestagox dumb until you have several weapons that could all upgrade/downgrade to a said upgrade/downgrade and you have no clue which one is going to do which upgrade/downgrade. The issue with the UI comes from the complexity of the game not the UI itself being bad (although its obviously not "good").
@@bestagox so from what you're saying selecting each weapon is completely fine, although your original comment stated that this was a stupid mechanic. Furthermore as you continue playing there are more features such as augmenting, and other types of upgrades that can be done which would make your proposed UI a mess.
I am a new MHW player and just got them mission to kill both Rathalos and Dia. For me the UI wasn't intuitive, but in my opinion it's rly good for a Japanese console UI. Besides upgrading second weapon thing i had 0 problems with MHW UI. Had no reason finding something new since then.
I can't agree with the UI take. It was honestly a skill issue there selecting the wrong sword to upgrade. I'll give him this it's not the best for beginners since it's so complicated to look at. But my Wife who has only ever played FF games, mostly 14 now and then playing MHW as her second franchise ever playing, she had 0 problems with the UI for the most part. Asmons problem is what a chatter said, he rushes too much. By the time of Anjanath we were both using pods and bombs on sleeping creatures. He doesn't take a minute to read and experiment with items to see how they can help with the hunt. And when you mix this in with his flare up about the UI, people will get some negative feelings towards this. It's a slow and methodical game, if you're not willing to put in the time then get angry when you don't understand something, then it's on you my man.
The struggle with the weapon upgrade menu was hilarious, frustrating, and disappointing all at once. Sure, it's not the best menu or the most intuitive and I can easily think of a few ways to improve it. But, taking just 10 seconds to look at the UI and see what else you can try rather than repeating the same action and expecting a different outcome is just common sense 😶
it literally gives you twenty tutorials on the UI alone, and has buttons littering the screen on things you can do when forging and stuff, if he took 5 min to look at the UI instead of clicking buttons it would be so easy to understand
@SobBaget602 Agreed. I like to think that part of the reason he doesn't seem to take much time to observe and figure things out is due to having more active gameplay that keeps the audience engaged (I'm still waiting for him to notice that whenever he picks up new slinger ammo it automatically tosses what he had before). But then again, that might be counterproductive in the long run and lead to cringy moments such as the one we're discussing 💀
I get Asmon's point on the UI but I do think he's done the usual extremist view of it being one of the worst around. I'll freely admit MHW is my first of the series I played and after starting this year I've put 300+ hours into it where I still don't use half the systems and menu because it is generally confusing...however I don't feel like anything is terrible or beyond understanding if you don't be lazy with it and learn it. Its just alot of information very early on (similar to the POE skill tree issue) and it's alot of, as Asmon says, intuitive gamer mentality you have to have to get around it quickly. For me it's just something like the game in general, you do have to put time and effort into understanding it more than it's easy to pick up, which makes it bad to a point but not terrible as he's suggesting.
cant blame the menu system, when you made another sword, use your brain and understand that you need to pick the one you just made to upgrade. streamers have 0 IQ
Asmon shitting on the menu system when all the confusion comes from him being inattentive as fuck. The fact that everyone else is an idiot for him sperging out is such an ego thing.
Really enjoyed watching these last few MHW vids, especially as he choose GS. Great to see someone new to the franchise go through the same struggles I did. The main tip I would give you is to use tackle a lot more, both defensively and offensively. It pretty much stops nearly all attacks in the game if timed correctly and will give you way more openings for TCS. Also go to training area and practice rolling off a ledge and running up walls into air attacks, GS is excellent for mounting monsters, which again gives you more TCS openings.
Oh you are so hooked my dude. Haha this is how it always happens. Happened to me with Rise/Sunbreak, then went to World, now I’m playing GU…this series is insanely great.
I still can't believe asmon blames the UI when he literally crafted a second sword and clicks on the fcking one he already has , I just don't know at this point if he doesn't try or just is plain stupid lmao ( but we still love asmon thats fine , he's learning )

He does this often while streaming. When he does I just go make some food and come back after he's done crying. He doesn't have good social skills.

Frustrating to see instructions on screen and him refusing to read. JUST READ THE INSTRUCTION FFS
People 1/3 his age have been intuiting this "unintuitive" UI for 20 years.

I can't agree with the UI take. It was honestly a skill issue there selecting the wrong sword to upgrade.

@@SobBaget602 That info overload only serves to confuse players more unfortunatly.
I get Asmon's point on the UI but I do think he's done the usual extremist view of it being one of the worst around.
It also short cuts to TCS
@@Zerochilluwu I figured he already knew this but prefered playing crit draw style.
nah he is zug zugging all the way it just looks like crit draw because its safest @@tek8537
Oh you are so hooked my dude. Haha this is how it always happens. Happened to me with Rise/Sunbreak, then went to World, now I’m playing GU…this series is insanely great.
Dude goes on multiple rants on how smart he is but is confused all the time
He's got hooked aint he? Hope he makes it to the guiding lands he's not gonna wanna leave
2:31:20 You make a new sword thats called Buster sword 1 and keep clicking the upgraded buster sword. The U.I is fine, its easy to understand holy..
I don’t think he realizes how great of a choice he made playing this game
MHW is truly the of all time.
I still can't believe asmon blames the UI when he literally crafted a second sword and clicks on the fcking one he already has , I just don't know at this point if he doesn't try or just is plain stupid lmao ( but we still love asmon thats fine , he's learning )
Just subscribed because this has been my favorite game since 2004 and only game and really enjoy watching someone’s first experience of the game.
Did you mean your favorite series since 2004?
I'm laughing at the thought of MH:W trying to run on a PS2
@@ZombieOfunimagine world graphics but with the jankiness and weird hitbox of the gen 1 MH, that's gold
Goddamn I was born in 2004
@@DaunteNicholson15 Some of my students are only a couple years younger than that. Pretty crazy how fast time moves
@@markjosephhuerno3391 When I gone back to play the 1st MH for the 1st time a few months ago.
I discovered tht the hitboxes werent as bad as ppl made it out to be.
It was actually the constant spam of tail swipes or the lil walk nudges or the instant split second charges tht was the issue. lol
guy doesn't read a single word on his face then complains about the ui
I honestly feel like he has these smooth brain moments on purpose lmao, that UI shit was not that complicated 🤣
I love how he's like 'I don't know about this one...' to 'this game rules' in no time at all haha! Monster Hunter is so much fun, I have phases of playing it heavily for weeks then moving on but always go back eventually. Rise on the switch was great, I had to get it on ps5 too. Having a dog is fun. I'm gonna jump back on world soon cos I never played iceborne and its half price now
you won't regret it, Iceborne is so freakin good.
