  • In 1969, the film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” took over the Schilthorn-Piz Gloria ski station, creating a so-called “Bond effect” that the region is still cashing in on today. Schilthorn threw a party to commemorate the film’s 50th anniversary-and we were there!

Imagine Lazenby had played in 3 or 5 Bond films. He would've been a gigantic star today!

Broccoli once stated that had Lazenby honored his 7 film contract he would have been the best remembered of all Bonds.

Ohmss is without a doubt bonds finest hour! Brilliant adaption of the book, George Lazenby was great as bond and deserves alot more credit than he received, for a retro blast from 1969 this film as it all, forgot the Moore era, Daltons stint was uneventful, brosnans was a travesty die another day is testimony to that, Daniel craig as brought bond back to life, oops and not forgetting grumpy old bastard connery then again let's.

This movie is the favorite Bond film of filmmaker Christopher Nolan. And it served as inspiration for some part of the plot of "Inception".

One of my favourites. I've never quite known why Lazenby got so panned and I also think Savalas was great. Plus, Diana look so beautiful in it.

Mr George Lazenby is the most handsome of all bond actors, surpassing even the late Mr Sean Connery. The ski chase is very realistic!

One of the best bond films, pity about the special effects. Lazenby would have been so much better in the series that Sir Roger, despite how nice a person he was in real life.

Similar to what happened to Thailand when they filmed The Man With the Golden Gun...became James Bond Island and turned what was once an isolated secret into a tourist trap.

    • @markusschmidt7513
      @markusschmidt7513 2 роки тому +1

At least in winter Schilthorn is not so much of a tourist trap but rather a quiet ski resort....sking for a whole day there by the way only costs half of the price of a non-skiers cable car ticket (but you have to master the very difficult downhill slope that also features in the movie)....

It's way up there. For me it's one notch below Goldfinger, and a notch higher than From Russia with Love. Imho. Bond rocks. I actually enjoy most of them. Lazenby was a solid Bond. Also, for me, Diana Rigg was the Best Bond gal.

@@waynej2608 If Connery did OHMSS it would probably be considered his best. Plus we would have actually got Connery's Bond in snow for the first time. Connery's the only Bond that never saw snow. Even Dalton got 6 minutes in the snow.

Stayed in Lauterbrunnen in 2001 and snowboarded down from Piz Gloria in thick cloud as a Bond fan. Returned in 2019 with family and enjoyed Bond exhibition and all the local locations from OHMSS with my Bond fan children. Best film in account if story, scenery and music by far.

Ohmss is one of the best Bond-movies imo. I hope to visit the Schilthorn in the near future. Two years ago I was on vacation in Solden (Austria) and had lunch in the Ice-Q restaurant on top of the Gaislachkogl (the Hoffler Klinik in 'Spectre') and visited 007-elements, an exhibition and cinematic installation built inside the summit of the Gaislachkogl Mountain.

(Difficult on set & with producers? George left the role shortly after its release, and the media pressure at the time.) This is what went down - "mostly". You also have to remember the times & era, and what was going on in the industry. The readjustment with Moore, was the natural choice at the time, just like how Craig was during his. It's easy to look back & evaluate these big budget films, but you have to remember that it's all down to how much the studio can recover, and put into the next project, or in this case, film in the series.
A side note on George, that he wasn't a career actor at the time, and he had to follow Connery - and the fan/press following. A difficult thing, and surely a factor in him waking off(other than the film not doing well). A lot of other career actors at the time, declined just for that reason. Looking back now after all the hype, pressure & expectations from the time are over, he was quite fine in the role, and there is little to criticise.
On a personal note - I prefer my 007 unmarried & a career agent. The ending here was a warning, that anyone he settles down with, would eventually end up a target. You can't save the world and be a secret agent and spy, and live a normal life.

Well, they did follow the book fairly faithfully by having Tracey killed in the end and you can make a case for saying they shouldn't have but I LOVED the film, from the opening credit sequence & powerful score to even the downer ending, because it played it so straight. By the time Roger Moore entered and the films became ridiculous, unfunny comedies. I mean a villain called "Jaws"?
But as someone who was really into the series in my younger years (saw all the first films twice) I think that Fleming's last three books were among his best. He knew he had little time left to live and Death haunts those last three novels:
"OHMSS" w. his wife dying at the end. "You Only Live Twice" with the story ending that he has amnesia and finally The Man With the Golden Gun" which has a quite different feel from all the preceding books in the series.
But the film was plagued with production difficulties from start to finish, but perhaps that shows that you can make a movie that's NOT a joy to film, where everyone on the set hates each other (supposedly "Casablanca" was like that) and still have it become a critical success years later.
