    stop complaining about menus disappearing on you too soon.. If thats your biggest complaint - really, stop being a woose. Once youre competent, you will find the system so much more fluid and streamlined at its current speed

      Wuss - Fails to do or complete something as a result of fear or lack of confidence.
      You're - Contraction of 'you are.'
      Example: When you're trying to correct others on the internet, taking the time to use proper grammar will make you appear less like a wuss.

    The manual for this radio is world class. At 82 I don’t have it memorized, but when I have a question usually a few seconds of digging in a manual “ I am familiar with “ finds the answer that I either missed or just forgot. Urge your viewers to pause your video after each demo item you present and read that section of the manual. If they will actually do that you will be a great teacher.

    • @HAMRADIODUDE
      @HAMRADIODUDE  3 роки тому

      You're right. I always want to show the manual on the screen, also. My concern is the potential copyright violation. With that said, I think reminding people to pause and check the manual is a good idea. I'll try it out on the next ftdx10 video. Thank you!

    I just learned that the FTDX-10 can take its own screen shots! See P77 of the manual!
    I'll summarize here: When you want to capture the screen, hold the MODE button until SCREEN SHOT appears. When SCREEN SHOT appears, you've captured the screen on a .bmp file on the SD card you have in the radio.

    I noticed that when you change band via CAT control (WSJT-X), the preset of attenuator/preamp don't change. When you use the front panel button it does change to your previous preset.
    Try to set different combination of attenuator/preamp settings for each band and then change band using front panel button, and you will see that it changes to your previous setting. It don't change these settings when using CAT control to change band.
    I did send an email to Yaesu to report this, but it might help if more users report this issue.

    Thanks, very helpful but I wish Yaesu included "averaging" on their spectrum display as per the Icom radios...harsh to look at. The hash display of the Yaesu is like the harshness of the Icom-7300's audio. 73's

    Sean thanks for posting these videos on the Yaesu FT DX-10. Seems like you have gotten some good experience with the rig.
    I have a few questions:
    What is your overall impression of the rig, what was your decision making process in buying it and what other radios do you have?
    On CW have you played with it using QSK. If so, I'm concerned about the clacking of the relays as this radio, unlike my K3, doesn't have pin diodes. So how bad is the noise -- do I need to wear headphones to mitigate the noise ?(which might be a deal breaker for me).
    I had a Flex 6400M and had problems with distortion in the audio. Flex was nice enough to take it back after we could not solve the problem, which I suspect was RF getting into the audio chain. Have you had any such problems or heard of anyone having these issues with the radio?
    I have never had a Yaseu radio before, (I've had Elecrafts, Icoms, Kenwoods and a Drake) and am trying to make a decision. If I'm wrong its an expensive failure, as no one lets you play around with the radio anymore, as AES used to.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

      Hi Jeff!
      Thanks for the compliments. I am still learning this radio but will do my best to answer some of your questions with my experiences.
      My overall impression is the FTDX10 as it is, is a great radio. However, like much V1 radios, it needs a little work. Firmware wise, there are things that aren't right. These are generally minor inconveniences or annoyances. I love the audio filtering on this radio as well as the reports I receive back. However, I do believe there is possibly going to be a lot of FTDX10 radios going back to Yaesu in the near future. I am not certain of this, but reported an issue on one of my videos about 12m. I am awaiting to hear back from Yaesu on this. If this is actually going to require a 1 month radio to go back to Yaesu (only for recalibration), My impressions of this radio would be slighty less than it was before I discovered the issue. I'll keep the Yaesu community up to date on that (if it is an actual issue).
      As far as CW, I don't remember the QSK being an issue, but I will test that for you a bit later today or tomorrow and try to get some videos out there. I may not be the best judge of this as I am only just learning CW, but I believe I can compare it to a few old radios.
      My favorite part of this radio has to be Yaesu's Digital Noise Filtering (DNF) algorithm (which I will provide some videos of in the near future). As a bit of background: I have an end fed, attic antenna. This naturally lets in a lot of noise. My noise level won't go below S5 on some bands. The DNF seems to do an amazing job of pulling signals out of nowhere so I can not only hear them, but comprehend them.
      You're not too far down the road from me. I would be happy to meet up with you to show you the radio/demonstrate it and get your thoughts on it. I understand The VIRUS is making this hard on people and I understand if you wouldn't want to .
      Best regards,
      HRD

    I like your walk/talk thru of the DX10 but your going at the speed of an air traffic controller. If I had already owned this radio for a year I'm sure I could follow you movements. Slower would give a chance to see what you actived and a chance to see it..
    Very thorough walkthrough in my opinion, just a little slower would be more rewarding.. Thanks and 73

    Re the band selection dissapearing off the screen after a v short time I've not found out how to extend the time but if you immediately move the circular dial around the vfo it'll stay on the screen whilst it moves around the modes.

  • @Kibwunga
    @Kibwunga 3 роки тому

    I am not sure if this is the video, but the FTDX10 DOES have band stacking registers. It DOES remember mode and settings. Actually they are triple band stacking reregisters. So if you press the band button without selecting a band, it will cycle through the 3 registers in that band, and it WILL remember when you set them for last time, including mode.

      Anywhere where the background is blue. Also in a nother video.

      Hello, I just used a DVI to HDMI cable, plugged it into a HDMI to USB cable and used a program called OBS to screen capture. I wouldn't recommend taking my advice though without checking the manual and with Yaesu first, as The video port may fry out if you use a DVI to HDMI cable

    • @mrdonsmith
      @mrdonsmith Рік тому

      @@HAMRADIODUDE You're a brave soul since the manual warns of possible damage using a DVI-to-HDMI cable, but maybe you did something that averts the damage. Maybe because the other end of the DVI-to-HDMI cable doesn't terminate into an HDMI port but merely passes signals through to an HDMI-to-USB cable and its the USB termination that counts and does no harm the DVI-D port on the radio. Maybe. Possibly. Could be. To be clear, did you use a DVI-D-to-HDMI cable or a plain vanilla DVI (no 'D')-to-HDMI cable?

    • @HAMRADIODUDE
      @HAMRADIODUDE  Рік тому

      @@mrdonsmith sorry, you're asking a lot of questions that I don't have the answers to because I no longer have the radio. I got rid of it about 6 months ago. I went to Walmart bought a cable, as I recall it was a DVI to HDMI onn brand. Then I went on Amazon and bought the cheapest HDMI to USB converter. Also I could probably look at my manual. As I had one of the first dx10s from HRO, I don't recall the manual specifying the HDMI issue. I could be incorrect, but I believe it wasn't until enough people complained about frying their HDMI ports that the updated many will became available. Again, sorry, I don't have the radio so I can't answer

    • @HAMRADIODUDE
      @HAMRADIODUDE  3 роки тому

      Hello. I did make a video where I talk about hooking the keyboard and mouse up. It should be as easy as plugging them into the back of the radio in the USB ports. If the keyboard or mouse do not work, they keyboard/mouse are not compatible. I am seeing a few cases of "Worked for my radio" but didn't work for someone else's. I believe this is in part due to having a older version of a hardware model. For example: THe M185 mouse works for me with no problem, but no one else could get it to work. I believe this worked for me because I have the model m185 from at least 5 years ago and they probably used different hardware. But really, it should be as easy as Plug and Play into the USB. Good luck!

      I do wish it had 2m/70cm. I foolishly sold my 991 back in October or November to fund the FTDX10. I then realized, what am I going to do for a vhf/uhf base.. OOPS. It does also come down to space constrictions here. I don't really have the room on the desk for another radio. I do suspect adding VHF / UHF onto it would add another 500+ dollars though. Thanks for the comment! 73!
