    This guy is the man. I've been bodybuilding for 40 years. I'm 64 and going to compete in the next year or so. I tool 3rd in the mister over 50 in 2010 Ironman Seattle, and I'm currently 330 at 6foot 3inches. I started off in power lifting and was training in Bakersfield ca with Steve foster and Sam Samaniego. Steve held the record in the 242 class and Sam held the world bench record at 639. One day I was late, when I walked into the gym they had 405 on the ground. I thought ok, were doing deadlifts. No, they were doing bent over rows. Oh did I mention Steve was trained by Fred Hatfield. What's all this got to do with anything. These are my credentials, I worked out at Golds gym before training with Steve, that was the Santa Monica location . Everyone was there. Danny Padilla, Roby Robertson, Tom Platz, everyone. My long exaggerated point, Oh one more thing. Working out at Bakersfield College weight room with Charles Glass before he was anything. Ok, sorry, my point is I've heard it all. and this guy Peter Khatcherian is the Best, I repeat the Best. there was this other who is on UA-cam, who I really liked, but he found a need to cuss and say stupid vulgar things, to try and be cool. What the heck does that have with real training. I'll say it again. This guy is bar none the best. Oh did I mention this guy is the best. My best weight which should give me a little right to brag on Peter was 405 for 32 reps bench. 500 dead lift for 12 reps. and a single with 705 squat. pullups with a 120 strapped on for 32 reps. Peter, Thank you for all the hours of work you put into you videos. I have learned a lot and totally appreciate your dedication and professionalism. Regards Marcus.

    Great idea with the landmine for the T-bar rows! The low-back stress is why I stopped doing them, and I don't have a chest supported variant available. You should give it it's own video.

    I got a hernia at L4, and bentover row, along with rdl and stiff legged deadlift helped me improve the situation (obviously with very light weights when I first started lifting).
    Now, I try to not get too thick of a back, because parallel to ground bentover rows does wonders, it's an old school workout but it never gets old.

    I personally find the 45° bent over rows work best for my proportions. Even Yates Rows, but with overhand grip, feels awesome. But traditional style parallel to floor rows are not my thing. They are more into lower back for me that I need fresh for deadlift and back squats.
    Secondly, I strongly believe that barbell rows are best done with a little body English. Arnold and Ronnie have done it in so many other exercises like pull downs and seated rows as well. It allows me better muscle engagement and activation than strict rows. For that, supported rows are better choice like seated rows, chest supported rows, dumbbell rows, etc. But barbell rows are meant to be done with some leg drive.

    • @wigletron2846
      @wigletron2846 Рік тому +1

      45° rows hit the lats better than rows parallel to the floor which is mostly upper back and rear delts.

    Heavy DB for this stuff is excellent too, no wrist tension and a bit larger ROM

    • @KenanTurkiye
      @KenanTurkiye Рік тому

      With heavy db's, you start working other muscles too to be able to keep your arms/elbows open.
      If you want proper back thickness, that is to have more of the mid back targetted, wide-ish grip barbell rows are better imo.

    just discovered your channel. You have one of the best physics I've ever seen.impressive.
    I've been training for about 10 years. We have many similar ideas. That the basic exercises and sets are the most important. I have always made my programs myself. At the moment I'm training my whole body divided into front (2x) back (4x).
    front: bench press, row, squat and so on.
    rear: pull-ups, rows, deadlifts and so on (2 days upper back / 2 days lats)
    What do you think about it?

    • @Wodan85
      @Wodan85 Рік тому

      @@everydaywarriors that's quite possible. However, I have had great success with this method, but perhaps with a little less training I would have even greater success? For this method, I mainly use lighter weights, bands, bodyweight exercises and high volume. For the phase where I mainly train with free weights and more weight, I only train 4 times a week

    • @KenanTurkiye
      @KenanTurkiye Рік тому +1

      Seal row/prone rows is a fav of mine too, but sometimes you need to programme enough lower back volume and bentover rows adds to lower back volume, and you can't cheat/go a bit heavy on seal rows, negating the benefits of the extra heavy.
      I love seal rows so much, I tried them on flat, slight incline and slight decline angled benches (5-10 degrees), you can literally adjust where it hits and the ratio of how much it hits an area.
      Lifting is great, can't wait till monday! lol

    Hey Pete, great insight video! I have straps but barely use them, as I'm convinced that as a beginner (1 year training, can row 125lbs for 8 CLEAN reps rowing like you) they would hinder my grip and forearm strength. Am I thinking it wrong? Are they worth using even though I'm weak? Appreciate an input from anyone

    • @PeterKhatcherian
      @PeterKhatcherian  Рік тому +5

      Don’t ever use grip strength as the reason you don’t use straps. If you feel your grip strength is limited just work it directly on its own.

    • @Luraj7
      @Luraj7 Рік тому +2

      Train grip through bodyweight pullups, hangs and deadlifts.
      If you can finish a 10x10 pullup session your grip should be ok and you can use straps for rows. Back is a very difficult muscle for making mind muscle connection (mainly because you cant see it working) so make BACK the limiting factor, not grip.
