I started doing dumbbell pullovers a few months ago and it has become my favourite exercise by far. My lats have began to pop and it really is a great builder for the serratus and intercostal muscles. It also helped with slightly achey shoulders, so overall S tier exercise for sure

Bro I’m a new fan of upper channel very good information. As a 60 year old lifter I do look at you young Turks for motivation. Still hitting it hard at 60 (Sunday) as I did I’m my 30’s only thing is wear and tear my buddy taken from both bodybuilding and long military career (26 years). Plus 14 years as a military contractor to show the younger troops you still can be in good shape at any age. Too many of my military peers that served with me has let themselves go after retirement especially the ones I looked up to to to their command presence. It does sucks being older. Keep telling the younger kids life heavy but use common sense so you do not regret it later down the road. .

So glad you did your DB pullovers on the bench like that. I cannot stand doing them across the bench perpendicularly. I do them like you are doing them. Its comfortable. No weird contortions getting into that position. It just makes sense. But everyone that I see doing them does them across the bench. I would prefer a pull over machine though, honestly.

Mind to muscle connection (MtMC) is huge for growing large aesthetic muscles. The MtMC is developed through neural adaption with each repetition. As you conduct a repetition, the brain creates new synapses connecting your brain to your nervous system to your muscle. So the quickest way to build MtMC especially for beginners, is to lift light weights for 30+ rep sets. If you do this as a beginner you will shave years off your progress in the long run.
It's not the weight that builds the neural synapses that form the MtMC, its the *amount* of reps.
Of course heavy weights has its purpose for muscle growth, if you start with a 3 quick low rest sets of 30 reps, then rest couple mins, then move on to heavier sets works well to build MtMC quick.

Hey Peter, I doubt I will get a response but I have a serious question about pullover style, specifically your opinion on my routine change, if the routine itself seems to have enough lat work.
I have swapped out my resistance band door frame pulldowns to a barbell bent elbowed (but static elbow) barbell pullover, leading into a lighter stretch based dumbbell lat pullover focusing on keeping the arm straight. I perform Barbell rows leading into this. This is only something I have started in the last week and would like your opinion on it.
    Tl;DR: Used to do:
BB rows - banded pulldowns - straight arm pullovers - etc.
    Now its:
BB rows - Barbell pullovers w/bent elbow, dumbbell pullovers w/ straight arm.

What gave me back thickness was unfortunately heavy cheating lifting. I had close to zero well developed body parts yet my back got really thick. Heavy rows, 20-rep squats and deadlifts put shadows all over my posterior chain lol. I got a little consiousness but still i think stressing the lower back a little extra is necessary. Little stimulus = little adjustment is basic physio
