I like that you called it default, cause the situation with Leo and CR was just out of this world. Im born in 95 and in our classroom we had all different favorite players that we literally could fill up a whole team, from GK to striker. But the next gen only had those two monsters, and now, as you said, we are slowly returning to the default

The thing now is that since Messi and Ronaldo's overwhelming shadow and presence is no longer present we can go back to the previous standard of really good footballers and thus more competition for the Ballon D'or. Bellingham, Mbappe, Halland, even Julian Alvarez, Musiala, Phoden, are players that will compete for it in the next decade or so. This will be fun!

Every other year is the year of the big tournament, Henry. You have to consider the performance of the entire year, which is what the Balon d or is all about. Yes year of the “big tournament” is important, but it shouldn’t be the ONLY reason they’ll gonna win it.

doesnt it make sense ? domestic football is every single year while major international competitions such as world cup, euros, copa america are every 4 and 3 years it makes alot of sense to have an emphasis on a competitions that happen twice and thrice in a decade and see it as more important

There is something wrong in Harry Kane never been considered for the award while he was playing in the best league for many years being top scorer and performing for country in tournaments and now he moves to a much weaker foreign fans and media are now recognised his ability. He shouldn’t be recognised more because he plays in a weaker league, he should have been recognised much earlier and feel the Balon Dor hasn’t come to terms with the reality that most of the best players are in the Premier League.
Messi is not going to win it again playing for Inter Miami. It's his international achievement that won it! And you have to think that if Rodri/Kane/Bellingham/Mbappe win the UCL and win the Euros, one of them will take it

He was first in the all time CL scorer list for player fastest to 20 goals in the fewest amount of games in 2020 at Spurs, until Haaland beat him. but was never in the top 20 in Balon Dor. He is being recognised more by the foreign media because he padding his stats in the Bundesliga and I find that morally wrong players get more recognition playing in weaker leagues than players who perform in the best league.

Football isn’t about favoritism let us be real here. Lucas Modric did perform in 2018 World Cup but he wasn’t the best player on Madrid team Ronaldo was. With most goals scored in all competitions given Madrid their third champions league in row. If you look at some of these things and players that were treated unfairly it’s not football, not especially it’s not surprising for me to hear Henry saying that because he played the best of football wish he should’ve won it but that same year they give it to Roladinho, he of all people should know better.

It’s simply wrong that your team performance matter so much for the ballon dor. It should be for the best player and saying Erling Haaland is at a disadvantage because Norway aren’t competitive is definitively true but certainly unfair.
I think they also awarded Messi because of the attention it provides, like it is his last possible Ballon d'Or after winning World Cup. I think Julián Álvarez could have been a good Ballon d'Or choice, since he performed at the Wolrd Cup and did very well in Man City.

1. nobody should care about the trophies in France either since PSG are so damn dominant there. They are literally never challenged. Even Bayern is challenged every season by Dortmund or Leverkusen this season. Someone like Marseille doesn't come even close. Al-Nassr on the other hand is far from being dominant in Saudi Arabia, it wasn't before Ronaldo, it's not even with him, it's quite close there.
2. Germany is awful, Spain are going through a transition. mentioning them as favorites for the tournament shows that you barely paid attention to international football. France and England are two favorites for the tournament with Portugal being third. It's based off their qualifying performances where Portugal, England and France are all unbeaten in their groups. Since Portugal won the Euros in 2016 when they were much weaker, they certainly have a decent chance now

Any footballer with that type of season in a new league, a top 4 league, is winning the Ballon d'Or 10 times out of 10, World Cup season or not UNLESS you're competing with a World Cup winning Messi or Cristiano. Fortunately this will never happen again because the Messi-Cristiano era has finally come to an end, it's time for the next generation to shine.
