Henry deserved the Ballon D'or. I have never seen a complete striker like TT. He was an absolute beast during his prime..a phenomenon.
Ballon D'or is not the standard used to judge all time greats. Henry didn't win but he's much better than a lot of guys who've won it
Nedved, Shevchenko both unbelievable players but the years they won it ahead of TT was an absolute disgrace. TT was outperforming both of them in those season's clearly the best player on the planet. It was arguable between him and Ronaldinho the year he won it too - both had similar numbers, but Ronny winning the CL just put him ahead that season.

@@Wladislav I think it's pretty clear Nedved won it because of team success, not because of Serie A's quality. Juve won Serie A and Italian Super Cup and were runners up on penalties in the Champions League. In contrast, Arsenal only won the FA Cup that year. I strongly suspect if Arsenal's Invincibles season were a year earlier, Henry would've won Ballon d'Or.

AC Milan did win the Champions League, but Nedvěd didn't get to play in the final due to accumulated yellow cards.
Considering how it ended up being a penalty shootout, there is a good chance that if Nedvěd had played, Juventus would have won the final.

Sadly our record in the CL was so poor that Henry was often overlooked for big players at the European giants.
Blame Arsene for being extremely cheap. A little investment and they could have maybe won a few UCL.

The very good Inter Milan of the latter 2000s famously disappointed year after year, until the summer of 2009 when Mourinho came and replaced around half the starting XI with Eto’o, Milito, Sneijder, Lucio, and Pandev. Or look at Guardiola’s first great City team of Aguero, Silva, Sterling, Sane, Fernandinho, Kompany, and Otamendi.

Ironically we knocked juve out the CL in 01/02 and 05/06 Henry scoring in 2 out of 4 games. Beat inter 5-1 in 03/04 Henry with 2 goals and 2 assists. Henry loved playing in Italy

Thierry Henry and Ronaldinho are by far my favorite living football legends, they are the reason I fell in love with football in the first place, they are part of my childhood... Henry should have won at least one or two ballon d'or in the 2003 and 2004 seasons, he was so unique and underrated back then, he was almost unstoppable and genuinely a very good all-rounder authentic player. ☯️✌️

Does Micah know that Nedved played CM? He should have compared Nedved's stats to Patrick Vieira's stats to get a grasp of how exceptional Pavel Nedved was in 2003.

No he didn't react cause he knew how dumb the comment was. Goals are not everything. And he is not even being compared to a striker, of course Henry will have better goalscoring stats. It's common sense nobody won a ballon d or for scoring 17 goals. Nedved contributed in other ways as well, and led his team to trophies.
Then by that same logic KDB and not Haaland should be considered for the trophy this year...thats what henry was pointing out...there is no consistency and its difficult to debate opinions which may change year on year@@kunalsingh4418

As an Arsenal fan since 2000 I still think Nedved deserved that Ballon D'or in 2003 because he was the motor of that Juve team. He was THE key player of the team that won Serie A, lead the team to the CL final which he was suspended for, and even got to the semi-finals in Euro 2004 with Czech Republic where he got injured. Before social media it wasn't just goals that determined the Ballon D'or.
and also at that time Serie A was the most competitive league in the world and not to mention Henry didn’t play well in the UCL which has always been a big factor on the award

So, a midfielder that managed to get those pretty remarkable stats as the best player of the team that in that year had reached the UCL final (where he couldn't play), being probably the best player in what was arguably the toughest league in Europe at that time (3 Serie A team in the semifinals), being a key player that led his club to win that same league should have come second to the striker of a team that didn't make it through the second group stage of the UCL that year just based on the goals scored mostly in what at that time was an inferior league?
Isn't that what the golden boot is for? Who scores the most goals wins it, very simple.
The Balon d'or is supposed to be awarded to the best player, which in the end is an opinion and we can argue all day that Henry deserved it more than Nedved, but arguing that a striker is a better player compared to a midfielder just based on the goals and assists scored, I'm not sure it's fair neither makes much sense in my opinion, but who am I to judge 🤷♂

the fact that nedved didnt get to play in the final that year is not an argument that favors him at all, its an absence you cant determine how a "ghost" would do in that game so that take is invalid and therefore dismissed...

The biggest problem we have now is people just thinking about goals and assists for this award. It is about a player INFLUENCING success within their team, whichever way that is possible. Saying you think Henry should have won it in 2003 over Nedved just means you never watched Serie A or the Champions League that year where Nedved was fantastic and the best player in each of those competitions. It may have helped that there wasn't a major international competition that year which can sway voting but Nedved still deserved it.
Henry was best player in premier league and FIFA confederations cup by some distance. Champions league he wasn’t. So compare the overall body of work and individual output. No one was more deserving.
During those days serie a was considered better than premier league. And nedved scored 15 goals and 10 assists. Those are still to this day great numbers for a midfielder

I am assuming you didn't actually want the full 90 minutes of the games that season. He was world class, but he ghosted in the big games. 0 G/A in all of the finals he appeared in that year. @@rod2274look at Eto'os 2005/06 stats ( when Cannavaro won it simply for being Italys captain when they won the world cup): 34 goals and 10 assist in 47 matches troughout all competitions (including managing to get Lehmann sent off in the UEFA CL final and scoring the equalizer). That year he definitely would've deserved to win it but because he didn't play in the WC he went unnoticed. If you're not from a big nation in most cases you won't get the recognition you deserve. Look at the disrespect Kaylor Navas got despite being one of THE best goalkeepers in the world at his prime. Eto'o definitely had seasons where he deserved the Balon d'Or especially the 2005/06 one.

2003 and 2004 Henry should have won at least one of those years. And I think he was one goal away from winning in 2006 had Arsenal won the UCL.
People make a lot of confusion or, more simply, don't have a good memory. Nedved is a midfielder, more precisely a left wing at that time, and you can't compare scored goals between a midfielder and a striker (as instead is Henry). And at that time (season 2002-2003) Nedved carried Juventus to the Uefa Champions League final in Manchester vs Ac Milan. But for a yellow card got in the semifinal vs Real Madrid, he couldn't play the final. Nedved was also voted as best midfielder in 2003 by Uefa and best striker was voted Van Nistelrooy (who scored 12 goals in the Champions League 2002-2003, that are 14 considering Preliminary Round games). And talking to goals, in that season of Champions League Nedved scored 5 goals (that for a midfielder is a big number).
2002 France won the euros, that would be enough for Henry with his domestic stats as well.

@@DamianAntonio4126 Nedved was a midfielder. Del Piero and Trezeguet were supposed to score the goals, yet Nedved scored more than Trezeguet while mastering the midfield. He had an amazing season and definitely deserved it.
Haaland deserves it this year, simple as that. As a messi fan and an arsenal fan, there is no doubt Haaland deserves it.

For me, Thierry Henry was and is one of the best strikers of all time - fast, technically perfect, elegant, dangerous in every situation. Football art at the highest level, but still effective. It's a bad joke that he never got the trophy.

How Thierry didn't win that in 2003/2004. He was on 🔥 not being biased. He was exceptional tearing the premier League up.
In 2003 Nedved dominated European football in every sense. He was the sensation of the game all round. Juventus won the double and were unlucky to lose UCL on penalties as they dominated European football. You couldn't give it to Henry for having won an FA cup and Arsenal not amounting to much that year. Henry deserved a Ballon d'Or but you couldn't give it to him over Nedved in 2003, period. PES gamers like me remember very well the demons of Niieved & Juve 2003.
That’s the problem with the award, we’re using team trophies to credit an individual trophy. The guy had more than DOUBLE Nedved’s goals AND assists
Balon d'or should be for the best player that year. Henry was by far the best player on the planet that year. The only player in history other than Messi to get 20+ goals and 20+ assists in a domestic season was Thierry in 2003.

Team performance is important and standing out in big games when it matters. This is what football is about.
Many great players didn't receive a Ballon d'Or; Maldini, Raul, Del Piero, Deco, Totti, Pirlo etc.

So one tournament is more important than the results/consistency of a full season. Messi was the reason Argentina won that World Cup and was clutch throughout but haaland did have the better season all throughout.

It is not quantifiable. A player like Haaland can score 50 goals and won't inspire or make kids and adults cry at the same time. A goal like Zidane's in the CL final vs Leverkusen was it, can inspire the next generation of players. Kids will play in the sun, rain and darkness until their mums come physically drag them off the field because of such a goal. So it is an emotional award. I don't remember the moment myself but it is said Nedved had a few games like that in Juventus' CL run that year (2003). And that's how he beat Henry to the award. But debate aside, any one saying Messi doesn't deserve this year's award by playing down captaining Argentina to the world cup and crucial goals at every stage (the goal against Mexico is what calmed team, they were getting nervous, a nervousness and impatience that loses you games), to argue he doesn't deserve it is in my opinion dishonest.
