Biggest one I agree with is ear protection. After road racing 2 strokes in the 80's and not wearing ear plugs (did a few times, but they were not comfortable at the time) I pay for it now.
Tire gauges - don’t waste your money on a slide-type gauge. They’re accurate within about + - 3psi. Get a digital gauge. They’re accurate to 1/10 psi. That’s 0.10 psi. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying
Get yourself an Osprey hiking backpack. I rock a Skarab 32. Comes with a water bladder (camel back) that has a super cool hydraulic system. The bag perfectly fits to your back when you get it set up the right way, as it has a chest buckle, a waist buckle, you can adjust the straps like every other backpack at the bottom, you can adjust the straps at the shoulders...if you get this bag set up the right way, you can have 75 pounds in it and it’ll only feel like it has about 30 pounds instead. This bag is honestly the most comfortable bag I’ve ever had and it’s the only one I use now. Plus, like I said, it has a bladder for water (2 liters I believe). It’s only $300ish, so it’s not much for what it’ll do for you, and it LASTS. Remember, this bag is made for serious hiking.
I put luggage netting on my back seat n i love it, its soooo convenient. N i highly recommend ear plugs on long highway rides, you get less fatigued n its more peaceful
I agree on the boots advice so much! I just got a tank slapper in a tunnel an my foot got kicked against a emergency door thing made out of concrete at 70 kph and the only thing I got is a couple of bruises on my foot... If I didn't wear my riding shoes my foot would've been broken
Some helmets have both visors useable. My one has a clear one on the outside but has a flip down tinted one behind it with a button on the outside. Bloody handy
I use a backpacking backpack. I can fill it up with as much weight as I want, tighten up the chest and hip strap and set the weight down in the passenger seat. Way cheaper and intuitive than motorcycle panniers, plus I can use it off the bike easily.
As someone hearing impaired I agree that hearing protection is essential. To add, I use filtered ear plugs that let certain sounds in because I have found that full foam earplugs block essential sounds like emergency vehicles. I fully realize others may hear enough sounds well enough even with the foam ear plugs, but this needs to be fined tuned for each rider.
Yes, I believe with normal hearing we can hear everything perfectly fine with normal ear plugs. Still, I have a separate set of lower-level noise attenuation for riding in the city as I never hit highway speeds there. They're one of those "concert hearing protection" ear plugs from a high quality brand. But you have to try them out as they're barely effective enough for me in the city. It's surprising how much attenuation you need on a bike, and just a few dB less of rating on the ear plugs makes them useless on a bike. I always make sure to carry the proper ear plugs with me just in case my plans change and I do head out to higher-speed roads, and even just in case I lose the other pair.
I always get my boots at Big 5 Sporting Goods. My current pair are Coleman brand with steel toes for $29.95 plus tax. I've had them for over a month of very rainy weather and they still look new. Comfortable and durable. I've also bought Lugs and other brands at Big 5. I recommend you shop there first.
The best backpack I've ever had for riding is my army medium ruck sack. You can get then at army surplus stores. They have a place inside for a camel back have buckles at the hips and chest and a ridged frame for a little extra protection/back support. As for the visor get a helmet that has the flip down shades built in. You'll feel like a fighter pilot

My boots used to annoy the hell out of my university halls friends. Coming back from a 1AM spin when I couldn't sleep didn't make many friends. Pretty glad I had them too when a friend from Med school blew his lower calf out the other side of his leg (at 3mph!) and was out long enough to have to drop back a year, along with the $20k ish of housing and fees that entails here. Best bargain I could imagine, my calf insurance.
As someone who rolls on a naked bike. If I had the room on my bars. I would 100% get a cup holder. Drives me crazy when I stop for to grab some food and have to order it with out a drink. Or throw it out before getting back on the road. It would be an excellent addition to gear you didnt know you needed!
How about a video for winter gear for us taller guys? I have super long arms (7 ft wingspan finger tip to tip) but I'm not 300 lbs. I need a quality leather motorcycle jacket that's warm, long enough for my arms and torso and doesn't look like it came from my grandpa's experimental days.
I just discovered your channel yesterday because I was looking up motorcycle tips. I’ve been lacking transportation for almost 2 years now and want to go cheap by buying a used bike when I save up
Buy a good digital tire gauge. The ones that look like a pencil are rarely accurate. I've found a 3-4 psi difference in my pressure readings between different types of gauges.
"Visor" this is why I love my helmet, has a slide down internal visor with tint built in on a side switch. I also added fans to it because fan helmet is comfy helmet. Also, I could use some good head. Where do I get that? 😂
Hi Yammie, still looking for a good summer jacket. I really like the one in this video. Can you share brand, style, etc.? I live in a rural area & have to buy all my gear online. Appreciate your good videos.
FYI: Surefire makes awesome earpro. I run their EP4's at the gun range, but they work great for ALL sound reduction. They are cheap, comfortable, unobtrusive, and last a surprisingly long time. Anywho, just thought I'd share my 2 cents with the community. Hope this helps. ... Also, what is that thing that you put in your jacket sleeve that increases airflow? It's the thumbnail for the vid, yet it's not brought up even once.
I too noticed the jacket sleeve device in the thumbnail and patiently waited information on it. It was the only "necessity" I, and likely most others, were not already aware of. The bottom line is that it was intentionally, not a mistake, and was done premeditated as click bait and is DISHONEST (look at angle of photo again). Therefore, anything/everything else he suggests, mentions.....either here now or in the future - is tainted and irrelevant. He "stold" 8 mins of my time and will never get more!
So far, this has been the only video I've seen about motorbikes that is as informative as this. I don't sub to a tonne of people, but you got one from me as I hope you can release more awesome videos like this. Edit:Especially the bit about earplugs, I'll back you up on that. My hearing wasn't destroyed by bikes, but from work related things because I was stupid and didn't wear earplugs. Now i'm not deaf but I have a very hard time hearing certain pitches of sound. I can hear low tones very well(big engines and other similar noises), while I can still hear higher pitch noises, as soon as there is a low pitch noise mixed in all I can hear is the low pitch and the high pitch is completely drowned out. The biggest issue I have found so far, is with females and children who try and talk to me while low pitch noises are around, if their voices aren't deep enough I don't hear them at all when in the presence of engine noise. Learn from my stupidity and wear hearing protection, you will regret it later if you don't.
the tinted visor on my rpha 11 carbon is great because it's so dark on that outside that it filters through a lot of sunlight, but so clear on the inside that I can see perfectly fine at night
I had custom ear plugs made a few years ago. They are without doubt the best things I have ever bought for riding. I also use them when I fly too. I recommend EVERYONE get earplugs. Custom made or not.
Walmart now sells motorcycle gear. I got the backpack they sell for $35 it also straps to your sissy bar if you have one. Also they sell nice foam lined shades tinted, yellow, clear, and mirrored for $13
Transitions/photochromic visor is fantastic. I carry my hydration pack in my tank bag inside of a bubblewrap envelope/bag. Keeps cold much longer, no condensation on bag contents and no clammy/cold/wet/sore back from wearing pack on your back. You sort of contradicted yourself when saying an accurate tire gauge and it costing a buck or two. For the sake of accuracy and longevity, spend a few more dollars, get a good one, preferably with a 0-50 psi range. It will measure in 1 lb increments and much easier to fine tune the pressure. A good steel pencil gauge is extremely durable, accurate and still costs only $10-15. Milton makes a very good one. You endorse the high dollar boots, so spend a bit more on the gauge too. By the way I have the sleeve vent shown in thumbnail, I'm afraid it falls in the same category as the Slap-chop, Sham-Wow and pocket fisherman.
I'm in San Antonio near you. I use a camel back for a day ride. If its super hot which it is o month of the year, i throw my bike jacket in the freezer 30min before my ride. Also, you can soak your shirt in cool water and ring it out before you head out. This will help with over heating you body in the late afternoon.

@@balzarini51 I was just looking at those today. so you don't wear shades while riding now? I'm guessing you can't wear shades AND that tinted (during day) visor too dark? I see you aren't in Houston, there is a Deadpool themed BUSABOYBIKE here. The ear plugs thong is because most people never read instructions, read them use the opposite hand and grab the top the ear and pull up and out while inserting the foam ones, it helps to get them in and formed correctly.
Also shooting ear pro are good for motorcycles. Plenty of in the ear active hearing plugs will allow you to hear everything up to a specific decibel and then it cuts out fully so it's adaptive to the situation.
Just wondering, anyone here from Ohio? I live in Ohio and I'm interested in getting a Motorcycle in my early 20s. I don't have a car yet and wanted to know if I should get a car or a bike first
100% agree with the boots! I put on a pair of casual combat boots the other day and ended up spraining my right ankle. I’m about to go invest in some nice riding boots.
The Ogio back pack has straps that even if the zipper is open nothing will come out on the highway and it has an internal pocket for a second visor, so you can have your tinted ones and clear ones for the dark.
I definitely agree that some sort of intelligence/common sense test should be implemented into the motorcycle test. Even a self-evaluated inventory test where several questions about what you would do in different scenarios if you were riding would show the dmv if you are a safe or unfit rider.
3:56 ok, im very close to being able to start riding and knowing this helps alot mainly because i already have sensitive hearing (like i can hear electrical screeching sensitive) so yea, this is good to know.
Yammers, you can kill 2 birds with 1 stone by getting a CamelBak backpack. I personally use the CamelBak Motherlode. I got my first one for a deplayment and ended up getting a second one last year just for riding. 1. Because they revamped the pack. 2. I really didn't want to ride around like a motard with a Coyote Brown pack with all my patches. You can find them on Amazon. Add it to your watchlist and wait for a sale. They usually go for a pretty stellar discount once a year.
Guys what do you think, should Yammie put timestamps of every product in the description. I got this thought when i was watching this video that it would be pretty useful to be able to watch the videos a bit faster because I really enjoy the content but just simply don't always have the time to watch the entire video.

gotta check out that motorcycle myths video next. just bought a VStar1300 last night, rode it home from the purchase (about 100 miles, 90 of it Interstate) and my ears felt weird for the rest of the night. I actually meant to bring ear plugs, but forgot, then started wondering if it was "safe" to ride with ear plugs in. Also, I've asked on other videos, but what is that white jacket? it looks amazing. When I was younger I never wore a jacket, and rarely a helmet, but now that I'm 35 with kids, and have been out of the riding scene for about 8 years, I really want to gear up every time I ride. Biggest one I agree with is ear protection. After road racing 2 strokes in the 80's and not wearing ear plugs (did a few times, but they were not comfortable at the time) I pay for it now.
I just bought my first bike, listened to your advice. SV650. In love.
Tire gauges - don’t waste your money on a slide-type gauge. They’re accurate within about + - 3psi. Get a digital gauge. They’re accurate to 1/10 psi. That’s 0.10 psi.

I had a dream I entered a blood contract with a honda cbr and I don't know who to tell
Fact: transition visor has been my best gear purchase I’ve made to date. Have kept it through 3x helmet changes too.
Only 200 dollars for the shoei! Lol
@Nick oh you sad sad little boy 😂😂😂 I spent years with 10th mountain with 2 combat tours, and yes still have my boots and PT belt and they have more vigor that you ever will. Oh so its Mollie not Molly high speed 😉
@Nick my guy I have been out of the service for years. Just because you couldn't pass basic doesn't mean you gotta take it out on me. And retaining gear thats still useful doesn't make you a boot it makes you resourceful but I wouldn't expect anything different from someone with that POG mentality
@Nick my bad, with how the world is now, I just immediately assume the worst
Don't ride like they fly!
MOST helmets have the ability to hold both visors at the same time, but I’ve never seen even one that does. 🤔
Neither have I. However many helmets now have the "fighter pilot" style hinge down smoked visor that does give you the best of both worlds.
@@MrShadowpanther3 yea true. I thought of that too after posting. I have that in my helmet. And a self tinting shield, so I have a few levels of tint to choose from. Don’t think that’s what he meant though. 😆
My helmet can have tinted sun visor and clear visor on at the same time
Its a white Duchini from halfords
@@JackSmith-qi2sl mine too if you’re talking about the internal sun visor. Maybe that’s what he meant too, but the way he worded it, it sounds like he meant two actual shields. I have a self tinting bell shield, so in a sense, if I through in sun glasses I have three or four levels of tint to choose from. I love it
@@hottotty13i just have 1 level, its almost enough but i wish it was just a bit darker, maybe I’ll upgrade next year along with a lighter helmet, this one hurts my neck after a while
Shoei’s transition shield should be on every helmet made now days. Thing is fire 👌🏻
If arai made a transition shield my life would be complete
How does that work exactly
grumpysquid I think it’s the UV light that makes the shield tint to a pretty dark smoke. Not the darkest, but dark enough, for sure
My boots used to annoy the hell out of my university halls friends. I'm not sure if its just my boots like that, most of my biker friends never bothered, but my boots were big clompy racing boots which squeak with every step.
I have a cup holder on my bike, I stop at gas stations for drinks all the time and take the drink with me.
ok cruiser bro
@@kedrshr1mp6 yo what if hes kn a h2 😂

I’ve been lacking transportation for almost 2 years now and want to go cheap by buying a used bike when I save up
"Texas has hit triple digits several times this year" I think you mean several times this week, and the past 20 weeks.
If you are a headphone guy like me, try noise canceling headphones. The BoseQuietComfort are a revelation for me 👌🏼
Hi Yammie, still looking for a good summer jacket. I really like the one in this video. Can you share brand, style, etc.? I live in a rural area & have to buy all my gear online. Appreciate your good videos.
did you ever find out what jacket this is?
I'm 63 been riding since I was 16 and earplugs are a must, I never used them and have bad hearing loss due to noise!
I'm 16, where can I get ones?
FYI: Surefire makes awesome earpro. I run their EP4's at the gun range, but they work great for ALL sound reduction. They are cheap, comfortable, unobtrusive, and last a surprisingly long time. Anywho, just thought I'd share my 2 cents with the community. Hope this helps. ... Also, what is that thing that you put in your jacket sleeve that increases airflow? It's the thumbnail for the vid, yet it's not brought up even once.
it's clickbait. that's it. classic yammienoob
@@AJ-eu1ug It's discussed in other comments, and it's called Ventz. You can find it on Amazon.
Hiking backpack was the first non moto specific thing I bought for riding and probably the best 20$ I've spent
Wtf is that thumbnail it has nothing to do with the vid are you kidding me u sell out / click bait
Its called ventz.
I don't know if this is a joke or a real complaint, but wtf. CALM YO TITS.

@@Piskles its true though. Clickbait af.
I had custom ear plugs made a few years ago. They are without doubt the best things I have ever bought for riding. I also use them when I fly too. I recommend EVERYONE get earplugs. Custom made or not.
"Believe it or not, seeing is actually pretty important part of running a motorcycle"
Been dirtbiking since 3 years old. Have ALWAYS ran a camel pack. Its a must have
Hey yammie love your content keep it bro
thank you my dude
No problem dude
@@yammienoob Great vid but as others have said you gotta avoid that lame ghost item in the thumbnail. No one likes that.
Ahh....yeah
A pack of cammels, what a smoke.....
Wait what?
I haven't ridden seriously for a while . As I am scouring the interwebs before my riders course at HD this weekend i appreciate the content as I gear up to ride again. Maybe Ill catch you around 635 soon!!! THANKS !!
My wife and I applaud you for your signing out fact and it's bonus info about that organisation. ;-)
I decided to get an electric tire pressure monitor off Amazon awhile back, it was like $30 or something, but it constantly displays my tire pressure for both my tires and an alarm will go off within 3 seconds of a leak in pressure!!!
I have a Transitions visor. So Much Awesome!
Holly Amaducci I won’t ride without one. So nice.
@@balzarini51 I was just looking at those today. so you don't wear shades while riding now? I'm guessing you can't wear shades AND that tinted (during day) visor too dark? I was thinking thought, it's so much cooler with the visor up going slower speeds (or faster, whatever) then I'd need shades during the day regardless if it's Transitions or not...right?
@@kee7678 i just crack it. my visor gets forced down at 45-50 mph any way. i have never ridden with glasses underneath. if its really hot i just wear my dirt bike helmet and googles

was so curious about that sleeve vent look'n do-dad-a-ma-thing. T__T
Just search up motorcycle sleeve vent you can find it so easily
Internal drop down visors are magic. No having to carry around extra visors
That Isle of Man crest sweatband is so memeworthy it's ridiculous.
I see you aren't in Houston, there is a Deadpool themed BUSABOYBIKE here. The ear plugs thong is because most people never read instructions, read them use the opposite hand and grab the top the ear and pull up and out while inserting the foam ones, it helps to get them in and formed correctly.
Please, do a video about two strokes, dirt and street bikes!
In ear Bluetooth headphones protect your hearing and you can listen to music at much lower levels than helmet speakers. Win win!
Make and model of your riding jacket in this video please?
Also shooting ear pro are good for motorcycles. Plenty of in the ear active hearing plugs will allow you to hear everything up to a specific decibel and then it cuts out fully so it's adaptive to the situation.
You know, I honestly expected an explanation for that sleeve vent...your thumbnail pic.
Just search up motorcycle sleeve vent you can find it easily
Definitely right about earplugs!! Did Sacramento - LA and I arrived almost deaf 🫤
Papa yam where's that wristy thing from the thumbnail? Drop a link for a homie
What about the visors Transitions make? Self tinting, no need to swap for day/night.
Just wondering, anyone here from Ohio? I live in Ohio and I'm interested in getting a Motorcycle in my early 20s. I don't have a car yet and wanted to know if I should get a car or a bike first
Zootz car first
Car first..become a great driver first. Then take motorcycle courses...and then get a motorcycle, and then take more courses.
100% agree with the boots! I put on a pair of casual combat boots the other day and ended up spraining my right ankle. I’m about to go invest in some nice riding boots.
What kind of helmet? 8:15
That thing looks dope
I want to know as well!!
I think i found it, its the Icon Airflite MPIS
The Ogio back pack has straps that even if the zipper is open nothing will come out on the highway and it has an internal pocket for a second visor, so you can have your tinted ones and clear ones for the dark.
I definitely agree that some sort of intelligence/common sense test should be implemented into the motorcycle test. Even a self-evaluated inventory test where several questions about what you would do in different scenarios if you were riding would show the dmv if you are a safe or unfit rider.
Is there Chopin playing in the background or is my hearing just fucked and in need of ear plugs?
You need a go pro so if you get hit you have evidence

@@scottfulton9457 what the fuck are you talking about. I literally just gave you the name of a company that make what you were explaining.

Motorcycle gear you didn't know you need, boots and tinted visor's... Really? Clickbait thumbnail thrown in too. The quality is starting to really drop ☹️
gotta check out that motorcycle myths video next.
just bought a VStar1300 last night, rode it home from the purchase (about 100 miles, 90 of it Interstate) and my ears felt weird for the rest of the night.
But I remember those hot summer days. That looks like its got enough ventilation to keep you relatively cool.
