This video is done so well! The jumper cable did the trick. Thank you! After I fixed the ice maker, I watched your video on how to fix the garage door opener. That went just as well! Thank you
Thank you so much for this video! I have a two-year-old KitchenAid French door, bottom freezer refrigerator. It's on its second ice maker. Tried this trick, and it has been working great for 2 weeks solid!
The motor for mine stopped working so I purchased a new motor that came mounted on an end cap. Only three screws held it in. There is a flat side on a shaft for the ejectors that needs to be lined up but that was easy. Also, I removed the bar that senses when the tray is full. I just pulled the one side out, installed the new motor assembly and reinserted the bar. It took maybe 10 minutes. It would take 3 next time. You don't need to remove the icemaker for this repair if it is the motor that's bad. This video shows you how to test the motor. I would use an insulated wire instead of a paper clip, it's 120v. Thanks for the video!
Thank you VERY much for the information. My ancient ice maker is once again working fine, thanks to your giving me the facts I needed to diagnose its troubles. There was just a bit of ice in the wrong place; now that it's clear out, pieces of ice are being turned out once again with no problem at all 🙂

the jumper worked and the ice maker slowly lifted the ice out of the tray after the heater warmed enough to get the ice out. I'm looking forward to checking it later this evening. This was a very clear explanation and working item by item, the ice maker lifted the ice out and it slid into the drawer. Thanks so much!

Nice, great tip on the freezer temperature. It turner out that was my problem. Lowered the temp and started to get ice again. Also IDing the test points very helpful.
Yes! Great video and very informative! Much better than the video's from the "experts" that I watched prior to watching yours. I like how you cover the main point at the very beginning. The freezer has to be cold enough to create ice. My ice maker worked fine for a few years but stopped making ice a few days ago. I did all the electrical and waterline checks but could not find anything wrong. Turns out that my freezer was too warm. The prior cooling level was fine until the last few days when the temperature in the home and opening of the freezer compartment has been increasing. Thanks for your help!
If youtube gave out awards for the best trouble shooting tutorial you would get the grand prize! 🎉 Seriously, you should teach a class on how to make a easy to understand, comprehensive tutorial. 🏆🎖️

Thank you! You’re the best! I unplugged my drain lines due to ice formation in freezer and water on the floor. After solving that problem my ice maker stopped working! Not sure why! Thank you very much for the informative video. I found out that the icemaker works and the water works so I got my fingers crossed. Thanks again again great help.
update: have to wait and see long term but mine started up after doing the paper clip jump start. after leaving the clip in until about a quarter turn on the front gear, i pulled the clip and it continued on its own, completing the cycle with refilling with water. so, fingers crossed, it continues onward from here on its own.
Thanks so much! My beloved ice machine in my 14 year old (GR2FHTXVS) stopped working. I used this trick to get the heating going to warm up the tray. A clump of ice was frozen to the side, stopping the arm from pushing out the ice. It’s now working after leaving the paper clip in for a few minutes!
Awesome video. Mine did not start immediately, as it seemed stuck. Took a little brute force on the wheel that ironically said "do not rotate manually".. Then it went on it's merry way.
Thank you so much for this video!!! I just bought a new ice maker and it stopped producing ice. I used your jumper wire trick and it appears there was a couple chips stuck because after the blades made a full rotation a couple little ice pieces came out. It then filled with water now I just wait and see but I am very hopeful. Again thank you so much for this great video!!!!!
If you continue to see smaller pieces, make sure the ice maker is not tilted. Maybe the water pressure is too low. Or maybe, you just need to increase the fill time with a (possibly) hidden knob.
Or if there’s not enough water in the ice maker check your water filter it could be plugged enough that enough water isn’t getting through. Happened to mine one time I was getting smaller then normal ice and it wasn’t getting enough water the filter was plugged.
Awesome video! I don't have any power coming out of the plug in the wall of the freezer that powers the ice maker. I tried holding the switch and there is no power. So I would have to disassemble the whole side of the fridge and see why there isn't any power coming in the the freezer portion! 😂
Very helpful! I watched a video before this one that linked your video in his description. He did a great job & now I understand why? He had a great source! Thank you, very much!
Also... Try taking the icemaker out and cleaning the tray. I use vinegar or better still cleaning strength vinegar. remove the ice bucket for better access. Loosen, don't remove two 1/4 inch bolts that hold the icemaker to the side of the fridge. (Unplug the fridge if you are more comfortable) Unplug the electrical connection by squeezing two tabs on the side of the plug. Remove the ice maker from the fridge and then remove the one plastic cover held with a phillips screw. I let the tray soak for 15 minutes or so. You can feel the difference in the smoothness of the mold. We have fairly hard water where we are so it builds up on the mold and makes it harder for the ice maker to harvest the ice. Might have to do this every year or two depending on the water mineral content in your area. Easy no cost fix!
You can check the water valve by putting a jumper between L and V. Then push the freezer door button to close and you should get water to the ice maker. If you get water, it’s a bad ice maker. If no water, it’s probably the water valve.
@@knix2for5 If it's one of the old standard type friges, you can usually go to the back on the outside, and the tube runs up the back on the outside, then there's a plastic spout that flows into the bowl shown in this video. Great video. So far everything seems to work. But the water keeps freezing in the fill tube. I clear it and let it run, and again it's freezing in the tube. It's a 30 year old fridge and has no problem till now. Plus it's only adding a few ounces of water. Making small cubes when it was working.
Low water pressure can cause small ice cubes, and the water valve not to close completely. A weeping valve will create an ice blockage in the fill tube. If the water to the fridge is going through a saddle valve, it may get clogged up with time. Maybe the filter is old. RO systems are not good for the fridge due to low-pressure output. Or maybe the refrigerator water valve is going bad... not opening and closing all the way.
Why can’t all UA-cam videos be this perfect for troubleshooting?!
