Oh gosh after working with that particular set for the Boy Scouts of America National Jamboree I can totally agree with you about the fidgety coupler. that's the set that usually stayed under my control in case it lost cars.
Hornby... now there's a name I haven't heard of in a long time. My first train set as a kid [growing up here in Canada some 45 years ago] was by Hornby. You don't see them much anymore in Canada [not that I've been train modelling that much since my early 20s].
@drewzdrew27 Thanks! Yeah, we found that you can run the models off the overhead, but its a bit of a fiddly thing to do. We might do a bit of catenery wire on a future permanent layout, but for now, its nice to just run it as is.
@kcorus I think its about 28 inches for the inside track and 32 for the outside. In any case, its MUCH bigger than Hornby's settrack. Its the reason all the trains look so good going around the corners.
@milky27oreo There are two pantographs on the power cars. Amtrak alternates their use. Sometimes the front pan is up on both and other times the rear pan is up on both.
The pantograph on the models actually work, conduct electricity. because as you my know they run off raise power lines above the track. one pantograph is raised on each loco depending on the direction. looks like you have it correct on the running videos. and so far Awsome review video.
This one was second hand, so it didn't cost store price. A new one (bearing in mind, that will be the revamped, DCC version!) will set you back about $250 (it comes with a loop of track, and controller).
@tpe18509 I think the new version is DCC, or at least DCC ready. Also, it has better lighting - LEDs rather than quite weak incandescent bulbs. The one I got was from an old set.
@tpe18509 Yeah, it is expensive at the moment. I got it for £118 (equivalent) from eBay. Most of the sets there sell for £250, but every so often, one comes along which isn't so expensive. Its worth keeping and eye on them!
@Acelapower1224 They're great - I'm considering getting a second one - the newest DCC ready ones have better lighting and details. The cab windows aren't so dark either.
@acela2168 Its a big one - we built it with flextrack, so I'm not sure of the precise radius, but I would imagine it was somewhere in the region of 28-34 inches.
@TEMPLE7D Yeah, I'm surprised about that- the Hippos are only a few years old. Anyway, I'll be living on the East Coast of the US soon, so, I'm looking forward to seeing these new engines!
@Snowdonia2011 I got it in the summer of 2010. It was a second hand set off eBay. Bachmann have recently upgraded the set with DCC, and LED lights instead of bulbs
TGV's use only one pantograph when on highspeed lines. (The second rear pantograph). And the German ICE 3 uses the most rear pantograph on highspeed tracks. On regular speed tracks they use multiple pantographs for their traction. I don't know how it's done on the Acela because I live in Europe lol.
The pantographs work too... There's a switch under the square thing right next to the back of the power car that switches where the electricity is coming from
@milky27oreo Ooops! Bachmann research fail.... I thought that was odd, but then again, there are two pantographs on the roof of all my other electric trains.
I'll get my Acela in a few days so you youtubers know that I will do a review on this cool thing and it might be like this. so there you go. I got mine from amazon.com for over 200 bucks!
@KingofTomedy Ah, I didn't know that. A shame, that was a nice colour scheme. The Phase III is my favourite as well! I have an F40PH and some Phase III amfleet cars which i should run, now that I think of it!
is the 2004 acela at the back or the front because i know which one is electric i watched on amtrak acela in 150mph zone and northbound acela showed the pantograph!
@Acelapower1224 Favourite train..... Hmmmmmm. I'd probably have to say the California Zephyr, followed closely by the Amtrak superliner train and then acela.
eh i have 3 of em sets running yall got nothing my layout is even computerized to the point of i have to click a button and the acela(s) well they fly fast and my frieght dont ask is computerized to
@streamlinedtrains Okay thanks! :) i'm looking a one o ebay i think its te older model. i maily do uk high speed trains but i like the look of the strealining fantastic!

hey I love the model trains.

@streamlinedtrains It will be sad to see them go! i just love the sound of those aem7's Beast!
@TEMPLE7D Yeah, I'm surprised about that- the Hippos are only a few years old. Anyway, I'll be living on the East Coast of the US soon, so, I'm looking forward to seeing these new engines!
where can i get em from
@Snowdonia2011 I got it in the summer of 2010. It was a second hand set off eBay. Bachmann have recently upgraded the set with DCC, and LED lights instead of bulbs
@streamlinedtrains The 2 pantographs are for the direction of travel.
The acela and hhp8 uses the rear pantos. It's just how we use them ;) it's no big deal how you use it for modeling...;)
TGV's use only one pantograph when on highspeed lines. (The second rear pantograph). And the German ICE 3 uses the most rear pantograph on highspeed tracks. Bombardier is Canadian. I know that because I am Canadian and Bombardier is from Quebec.
Awesome dude!
amtrak acs-64 is part of the northeast corridor
where did you got the acela express (i mean the 2004 & 2003 and the class 90 one) [i meant the hhp8]
No - its actually from an American manufacturer called Bachmann (they make Bachmann Branch Line in the UK)
The pantographs work too... There's a switch under the square thing right next to the back of the power car that switches where the electricity is coming from
@ilovefood861 Understood. I talk too much... More of the trains in the more recent videos, but this is a review channel, so some talking remains.
@karlene8089 I had to remove the sleepers to get the rails to the right length. I would have put them back in before ballasting.
i was told the AEM-7s and HHP-8s are gonna start retirement this year for the new ACS-64 locomotives
This train runs on a line near my house all the time. They are really fast!
@Roy Huchelbur Bombardier is Canadian but has factory's all over the world.
how much money did it cos
@milky27oreo Ooops! Bachmann research fail.... I thought that was odd, but then again, there are two pantographs on the roof of all my other electric trains.

Well, these are American trains! So I'll do it that way for this video... In future, I'll be sure to watch my pronunciation...
@tpe18509 Indeed! Mind you, even my favourite engines, the EMD E6s had to get retired eventually.
Look at your model train set, so beautiful. I love it ! I envy you !
Maybe I should get the Acela cause the other HO Scale Amtrak Trains I want cost a lot and the Acela on eBay and on Walthers cost $299
Very nice vid
This is Acela Express of MSTS :D
Lovely set of Model trains, when did you purchase the Acela?
1 person is a Siemens employee, whose company lost out to the contract for the Acela Express to Bombardier
@TheBrianbnsf Found them all years ago on eBay - they were mostly rivarrossi - and then my brother got more recent walthers cars to replace them.
Can you take the dummy engine apart the same way as the powered one?
@KingofTomedy Ah, I didn't know that. A shame, that was a nice colour scheme. The Phase III is my favourite as well! I have an F40PH and some Phase III amfleet cars which i should run, now that I think of it!
Could you possibly do a review of the Acela Nor'easter shown in the video?
Like what MegaSonic1010 said rear pantographs acelas will typically use the rear one but the pantographs are versatile
is the 2004 acela at the back or the front because i know which one is electric i watched on amtrak acela in 150mph zone and northbound acela showed the pantograph!
i think it actually uses the first one i see them in stamford station on the new haven line all the time and when im coming home from work
where did u find the BN passneger cars i have been looking for them forever
I got one from Train World and it was $249.99
@streamlinedtrains Is it dc when you get it?
How many curve tracks u using in one turn? I'm buying it today and I don't know if 3 turn tracks are the same has have of one of your curves.
Actually the true Acela is an Alstom product.

Thanks
I've filmed and edited it, but haven't got around to uploading it yet! Check back soon.

Amtrak Acela Express & MBTA Commuters @ Rte. 128 Station, MA
What is your favorite model train that you have?
@Acelapower1224 Favourite train..... Hmmmmmm. I'd probably have to say the California Zephyr, followed closely by the Amtrak superliner train and then acela.
That's cool!
eh i have 3 of em sets running yall got nothing my layout is even computerized to the point of i have to click a button and the acela(s) well they fly fast and my frieght dont ask is computerized to
Are 50 trains
is the 2003 car pulling the coaches for the instructions?
Most Awesome Vid!!!!!!
The doors don't open, no - though I'm told the Lionel O-gauge version does have opening doors.
@poofy917 Should be able to. I've seen some people install DCC in these, though its not easy.
@streamlinedtrains Okay thanks! :) i'm looking a one o ebay i think its te older model. i maily do uk high speed trains but i like the look of the strealining fantastic!
did he put up a amtrak genesis one yet ?
Bombardier is canadian but the train division moved to germany but the mother company is still canadian
Very cool!
Is 2004 pulling coaches or 2003 is because what like Ozzy788 said he knows where is the pantograph.
Wow thats cool
Can't wait
@streamlinedtrains is it from Hornby?
