    Well good sir, I'm here to 'express' some thanks for sending me high speed down the track with some inspiration!
    I had visited the Jacob's Bogie previously but for a completely different objective [streamline & hide the gap with paired concave/convex car ends as well as minifigure walkthrough from car to car]. Yet a solution didn't pan out at that time because was I more focused on a singular pivot point, angles between cars, the cars hugging each other closely at the gap, I was in a rush at it and I didn't have the Book of Chaos to help me out. 😅
    I had the intention of circling back and solely implementing the jacob's bogie, but was low priority. Until your video! ..which accelerated the desire to implement them. However...in progress the other day ago....new ideas came up and it all morphed into tackling the 'streamlined and walkthrough' objective again...and I just finished a working concept on a major breakthrough idea! 🤯🤯😍 Elation = off the rails 😂

    I’m a bit late to the party but this has just been recommended to me as I’ve been looking at a lot of Lego train videos due to starting to build a small Lego train layout in the loft and this will really help with one of my trains which has 4 carriages and a dummy car. And like you said at the end of your video I’ll have some spare wheels and bogie plates left over which I can use to make some other rolling stock.

    I'd like to see jacobs bogies under all cars - I used a technic pin with axle at one end to make them easy to pick up and place, rather than the stabdard grey pin that locks at both ends.

      @@RobinHoodBricks Yep, it sure does. American container trains are basically just moving container yards. Almost all are over 200 cars long, and many go over 300. Many are double stacked part of or all of the way. Many of the trains just do the same coast-to-coast run over and over again. That is probably the most practical use for Jacobs bogies, since the cars always just do the same route.
      On the idea of a train as a moving container yard, in western Arizona, along State Route 72, there is a BIG intermodal container yard. The thing is, it has no cranes or truck ports. There are just forklifts and rail sidings. Basically, they just pull up trains to hold the containers, and then take or load them as needed. I do not think it is even paved.

    To correct somethings stated: the cars are semi-coupled depending on there use. North American intermodal (containers & semi-trailers) use the Jacobs bogey and in the event of a derailment, are meant to shear off the car that connects to the parent car (usually either the A, E, D, and C units in 5 unit cars, or A, and C units on 3 unit cars.

      The original Eurostar trains (class 373) have then between the carriages except for the end ones (all the powered bogies are then conventional as the end carriages ones are powered too) centre pair so they can split if needed to evacuate the tunnel (never have in practice though). The AGV is different as that has every other bogie powered and they are all Jacobs bogies between the cars. I think this train is following that design, we just have one end to disguise the battery box in.

    I think the difference between the carriages is simply the length - the bogies in the Horizon Express work just fine because the carriages are slightly shorter than those in the passenger train. That being said, I'd say this is a necessary and well-done upgrade. I've tried building a lower-profile bogie in the same style as a typical "dummy motor" but that seems to have too much friction with the technic axles. I'm definitely going to try this and compare the performance, but something tells me this is just going to be better lol.

    I would like to point out something and I hope I can get people behind me on this. we Lego train fans have always been screaming at Lego to make better trains bigger trains and more and more sets dedicated to being trained. however a lot of our Lego layouts don't respect proper railroad layout etiquette. we don't gauge our tracks properly you yourself have a large number of Minifigs buildings and decorations that are far too close to the railway lines. if we're going to have train sets let's actually treat them like train sets and gauge our tracks properly. so that when Lego comes out with a big monster train which we've been asking for, we're not going to upload a thousand videos saying how it doesn't run on most people's layouts. that's not Legos fault they're making a train as we've described a train to be. it's our job to gauge them properly. it'll be a lot of work and a lot of room to properly gauge all the tracks on a single Lego layout. but it's worth it to prevent the uploading of negativity across all new Lego train sets. I noticed that was one of the biggest problems with the amazing new carriages in the Orient Express set, is that they're so huge they bump into things that are placed way too close to the rails on a turn.

    After last weeks dark revelation that your new cargo ship was actually an illegal pirate vessel with a corps inside, I was actually expecting you to say that these new Jacob bogies where actually going to be for a new 'people smuggling' and 'Sex trafficking' train that you will debut this Friday!!🤔. Brilliant video though!!!😃👍

    Robin, two things. Do the carriages come in just as much or is that less? And you can also apply this to your freight train. Container wagons also use Jacobs Bogies, see Marklin 47810.

    • @RobinHoodBricks
      @RobinHoodBricks  2 роки тому

      The carriage spacing is identical. Yes, I could use it for cargo wagons but usually it is a pair of the same type. Mine are mostly totally different. Maybe a few could be used!

      I tried this digitally, just for you. Yes, it works perfectly. Same build, same spacing on the 2018 as it had before.
