      Dude I would have been pissed. They reused rusty rods like what if one had a fracture under the rust? But not only that the block itself is not a vortec block. Because of the fuel block off plate Unless they drilled it so you can put it in a older car. But... on vortec blocks the pump bolt holes are there but not tapped. The centre hole for the push rod wouldn't be there. And it didn't even look like the cam had the extra lobe for the pump plunger. All that aside it could have gotten rusty from sitting in there storage for 2 years before you had even gotten it. I would have sent it back and got a proper clean one.

    Just wanted to recap with you I bought the same engine for my camaro I've been running it over a year now with absolutely no issues or problems I have been hitting it with a 150 shot at the track as well running high 8s with no issues so that being said I ordered mine straight from ATK and they built it when I ordered it and it didn't sit on a shelf in a warehouse!!! I now have it torn apart I'm switching cams and going to aluminum heads and still using the bottom end but mine was the 350hp version I'm not sure what yours is but you have a good one bro I enjoy your videos

    • @BOOT
      @BOOT  2 роки тому

      The crate engine in the video is a stock truck replacement 0282 L31 rated at up to 255hp. I'll go through it, clean it up, mod and make it work good enough. Sucks it rusted up so bad so fast! Wish that I showed the other engine, that has been on a stand in the same garage for over a decade w/o rusting. Did yours have the oversized stem valves like mine?

      @@BOOT no like I said about mine I've tortured it with no problems 😊 mine was the HP33 engine from ATK I ordered straight through them instead of jegs or summit because through ATK I got no core charge and free shipping because they was having a Christmas deal when I ordered mine. I'm now doing a heads and cam change on mine I'm going with aluminum heads 202 intake 190 exhaust 64cc combustion chamber and 200cc flow on the intake side and I'm not doing anything to the bottom end as long as it holds up I'm going to beat on it with some more nitrious 🤣🤣🤣 I'll let you know what happens and again I love your head videos you're part of the reason I chose the heads I did for mine

    You could also just thread a long bolt into two of the three harmonic balancer holes and use a pry bar or long screwdriver to rotate the engine. Works like a charm.

    I was thinking about using a ATK Engines High Performance Crate Engine GM LS 383ci 515HP / 505TQ
    Part Number: 059-LM7-LB-3 from Jegs @$8,595 for a project. However I wanted to see reviews and recommendations before purchasing anything. Just like stroker engines and I do plan on supercharing, possibly even twin charging the engine (with a big Roots supercharger and a big Turbo). What does everyone think? Thanks.

    Could those out of round head gaskets cause a problem? Like lowering the compression ratio and eventually blowing out?

    • @BOOT
      @BOOT  3 роки тому +1

      Many sbc head gaskets aren't round, I got like 6 or 7 brands atm and none are round. Good eye lots of people don't notice, it's not ideal but plenty of people using them.

      @@BOOT I'm needing a new engine for my 88 chevy truck. Been researching all the online rebuilders. Found out atk builds under different names and a lot of them are not good. Even local builders here in Phoenix have good and bad reviews. I'm thinking of just buying one of the 100% new gm engines. More expensive but eases my mind knowing exactly what I'm getting.

    • @BOOT

      @@duganfr If you go that route, look around online and find the best price then see if your local dealer will beat it.

      Also compare the price of a Blueprint crate, might not be much more for a higher performance engine. If that's what you want

    They are all grade 4 bolts, change them anyway, ARP bolts or studs, Its better to be safe than have to cry over having to buy another long block and buy them on that build, as for the rusty rods grind the casting marks off and then posish the hole beam, then put them on a scale and grind material off the pads and match them to the lightest rod now they are lighter and stronger!

  • @gordface1
    @gordface1 4 роки тому

    the numbers on the rods match the rods to their respective caps. You can't mix caps and rods because of the way the are separated after casting.

    • @BOOT
      @BOOT  4 роки тому +1

      Normally when removed/tore down they all are numbered by cylinder firing order and then reinstalled in the block that way. These are not, not even just numbered in a row if I rem right.

  • @CaptainYodelstein
    @CaptainYodelstein 4 роки тому +1

    Kinda weird not all the rods were rusted to the same point. Makes me wonder if they put rusty rods in it.

    • @BOOT
      @BOOT  3 роки тому

      No mods, should of dropped it in n run it, not let it sit. But since I mod everything, glad I went into it and it'll be better when I do put it back together. Still a GM crate would of been a better start for not much more back then.

    Sadly soon all combustion cars, bikes including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-(
    In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime (BABVVO=Bundesabgasbespassungsverbotsverordnung)!!
