Me also. Sort of an antithetical exercise. Hopefully we can learn something from this. Does the C of E really think this is a positive role for Holy places?
As an Anglican Clergyman who was schooled at the King's School in Canterbury, and who was deeply touched and inspired by singing often at services in the Cathedral, I want to thank this man and his friends for their courageous witness yesterday. This precious place is entrusted to the stewardship of the Dean and Chapter. It is not theirs to profane. When I visit my parents in Canterbury I feel that I can no longer look at it... let alone visit the tombs and altars of my relatives who are buried there... I currently minister in Cumbria, so could not be with these Christians yesterday, but would have been, had I been in Canterbury. I am heart sore and grieved to think that this has happened, and will happen again tonight. Doubtless discos like this will become a regular 'date' in Canterbury's social calendar in years to come. I am ashamed to think about the whole thing. Mark is correct. A community of like minded Christian laity and prophetic clergy does need to gather and pray and mobilise to show people everywhere that some of us do actually care.
I bought up the wokeness of the CofE to the vicar at ChristChurch Herne Bay and when I saw him next he turned his back on me. I told him I stand with Rev Calvin Robinson.
Psalm 81, yesterdays liturgy, "My people heard not my voice, and Israel obeyed me not; So I gave them up to the hardness of their hearts; they walked according to their own counsels." Thank you for the petition and organising the protest. God Bless
So Blasphemous !! Well done and bless you for your brave stance against this outrageous, event. This is also the season of Lent. !!!!!! I wish there were more people like you. may God Bless and protect you, and may Our Blessed Lady take care of you and your family,
The Archdiocese of Liverpool had a pride mass, and St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna had a Rock Climbing wall in the nave. I don't know if they'd take better care of it.
I attended a Christmas concert in Chester Cathederal last December, and was horrified at what it turned out to be. I went as an invited guest of other family members, who had expected it to be a concert of genuine traditional Christmas songs, carols etc, all performed by candlelight. Instead there was an extremely loud rock concert, with people dancing in the aisles and bringing in alcohol, and the band performing directly underneath the statue of Jesus hanging on the cross 🤮
I know Canterbury well. Canon Brett was a particularly good man. That cathedral has been defiled at various timed. During the deformation a lunatic townsman got a ladder and poked stained windows out with a pole. During the civil war In 1642-1643, during the English Civil War, Puritan iconoclasts led by Edwin Sandys (Parliamentarian) caused significant damage during to the cathedral. This is more of the same defilement. A house of prayer or temple of God used like a sewer. There are kings, saints, monks and our ancestors who worshiped and are buried in the cathedral. On every level is a disrespectful example of treason to Christ and his Church. As for ecumenism clearly the Dean doesn't care about Catholic and Orthodox relations or sacrality. How much is the Dean being paid per year? Often the stipend is a food trough for decadent clergy! Yes they could have used the great courtyard adjacent the school of ever the lawned area in front of the cathedral near the great gate house. I might add Cardinal Pell offered Mass there not so long ago. The Church of England is sinking to new lows of profanity. I will feel grubby entering that nave and looking at the statue of St Augustine of Canterbury on the pulpit, whose prayers we invoke to drive people like the Dean out of his job! If walls could speak. What the barbarians could not do the Dean of Canterbury and his cross dressing companion have done. Betraying Jesus with a dance.
Thank you so much for speaking out. In the Church of England we were much like the RC Church & our buildings were set aside as not only a place of Peace & Prayer but also as the house of God . This was desecration of worse kind. Do Cof E no longer read the Bible & what happened when Jesus overturned the tables of the money lenders in the temple ! While it costs money to maintain & run our ancient Churches & Cathedrals doing this profane thing is evil. Does not the dreadful Cof E see what damage has already been done & they have lost so many faithful without adding to it.
I'm not a Catholic, but dancing on the graves of Holy Men and in the Footsteps of Pilgrims is never acceptable! This is completely disgusting and utterly inexcusable!
The most important point from this discussion is that the laity are on their own. Bishops refuse to cause a ripple, no matter what, and they have vows of obedience - even if the bishop does evil things. If the church is to be set right, the laity are the only ones who can do it.
Dear Cajetan, you are such an inspiration. Thank you for standing up for what is right and just. I am bereft at what has been allowed to happen in this most sacred place. I have written to the Dean regarding this but sadly I got very little sense of compassion towards those of us who feel this is fundamentally wrong. The sad thing though is that I truly believe he knows this is an act of sacrilege but cannot voice this, as he, like the chief executive of a company, has to balance the books, at any cost it would seem. What moral compass is the C of E following!
Should have bought all the tickets, Showed up with your Rosaries, Went in, knelt down and prayed a full Rosary together. Then they would have the money for up keep. And you would have blessed the cathedral with prayer instead of partying.
I was about to ask the present custodians to hand the Cathedral back to the Church (not just the OldusOrdo/NuvoOrdo wing....just Catholic !!) but when I heard only 20 brave faithful souls turned up (I thanks those who prayed from a distance because they couldn't physically go!!) maybe we do not deserve God's grace as a lukewarm Body of Christ. God bless you young man and your family. You are a great man and Christian.
The C of E now shows us.. who and what they truly are.. Their wonton desecration and blasphemy vs the Divine and Humanity, only ever one outcome, and May Gods Pure Love Bless Us All..
Wow. Now that would be a great idea. Imagine the crowd you might get if you could do it on Becket's feast day! After all, if the pope let the clowns do play practice in a Catholic church, at least they could reciprocate. Somebody should ask for it.
A while back I went to a Catholic Mass at Rochester Cathedral. The lady vicar looked utterly perplexed at the hoards of children and young family that swamped the place.
Actually, before pandemic the Latin Mass society was known to celebrate a Tridentine mass in the cathedral-but the *Catholic* diocese (Southwark) insisted that it could not be advertised in Catholic parishes! Every year on Dec 29 the local catholic parish has a vespers in the cathedral crypt (the feast if St Thomas). They’ve also had catholic vespers in the cathedral at other times…and I attended a Mass (NO) offered there by Cardinal Pell in 2015.
The gate was open years ago when churches started to open their doors to concerts, including classical, which though is very nice is still just entertainment. We must not forget that the Protestant, Schismatic congregation have no Blessed Sacrament, no valid Orders and no Apostolic Authority. Canterbury Cathedral was stolen from the One Holy and Apostolic Catholic Church. Maybe a Petition to Transfer the Relics of Saint Thomas to Westminster Cathedral. I am not saying that present day Anglicans are all Schismatics for most did not deliberately choose to go out from the One True Church, however God is showing them that the weak foundation, built on sand, is crumbling . Come Home dear Anglicans, we miss you very much.
I am inclined to think they should just give it back to the Catholic Church the anglicans stole it from 500 years ago. But then I think of all the crazy stuff that catholic-in-name-only bishops do these days, and I honestly don't think that would solve much. Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for England!

Visiting Salisbury Cathedral recently. Plenty of people came in for evensong on a weekday. Cathedral was packed for The Messiah before Christmas. No reason to think other cathedrals are any different.
These kids are playing with fire. I know someone who desecrated sacred ground thinking nothing of it and died a most horrible death two years later not having repented of anything. Just giving you a heads up.
As an OKS Anglican - now old and living in Mexico - I am appalled and sickened by the leaders of our Church. On a separate point, I wonder if you have considered how this reflects onto King Charles. After the new sovereign was anointed on his head, hands and heart with holy oil consecrated in Jerusalem, as a symbol of his divine right to rule. In common with his predecessors for almost 500 years, Charles takes the titles of defender of the faith and supreme governor of the Church of England. I wonder how His Majesty feels about the responses of shock from the world to this event? After all, he has been Patron to the Temenos Academy for many years: ua-cam.com/video/PGt4Dap303Q/v-deo.htmlsi=YsCp5z39jJhHDHIs Was it even considered how this looks to other cultures during this time in our world?
The Church isn't a carnival or fairground. It shouldn't have to depend on money from tourists to survive. That surely wasn't the case since Canterbury was built up until recently. It should be able to survive based off a faithful laity that tithe what they can. Sadly, that isn't possibly, because the CoE are declining; they've essentially apostatised and have removed the sense of the sacred and tradition from the church. Their plan to evangelise the youth by becoming more worldly has backfired and was both illogical and heretical from the start.
