Great review! Wanting to get this guitar but the floating bridge is holding me back (difficult to do double-stop bends, going out of tune when resting too hard on the bridge while palm muting). I asked a PRS tech and he advised against flush mounting the bridge (and not messing with the 6 screws), and instead blocking the bridge with wood in front of the steel block. I sometimes like trying alternate tunings (mostly drop D and Eb standard, and rarely open F#, drop C#). He said I would be fine going from E standard to drop D on the floating bridge. I wish they made one with a hardtail bridge (the SE Paul's guitars has a stoptail but intonation cannot be adjusted for the 6 individual strings. The Holcomb has a hardtail but 20 inch radius sounds ridiculously flat.) 1. How is the balance of the guitar (when sitting on a chair without using straps)? Does it tend to dive toward the body side when playing seated? Is it heavy? 2. Does the gloss finish on the neck bother you? 3. In 2 other reviews, I observed the 3 way pickup selector malfunctioning. How is yours holding up?
Thank you! ❤️ I think you’ll be fine with alternate tunings, I have a friend with a SE Custom 22 and he set it for drop C or something like that, I tried drop D and it works flawlessly. If you go for the Paul’s Guitar you can swap the bridge for one that has the saddle to adjust intonation, I think graphtech makes one but also PRS themselves. As far as the balance, it’s great. No body dive, no neck dive, it’s very light and balanced, where you put it it stays. I though the gloss would be a issue but it isn’t, it’s very hot here but I still can play without any problems. I also had the issue with the pickup selector, not in the shop but when I came home. I put a little bit of WD40 and it has worked perfectly since! I suggest you try one, the neck is very nice and that’s basically what sold me the guitar because I was already into the looks😂
@@sergioserramusic thanks for your input! Did you go to a higher string gauge? If so, what setup did you have to do? Widen nut slot? Truss rod? Saddle height? The two claw screws? Adding springs?

But the hardware hasn’t been changed, maybe I will put better springs in the future
Thank you for the video, it is very useful! Let me ask, what are the pickup selector configurations that you really use? I mean, maybe it is too thin to use both pickups as single coil, so better to split only one pikcup and keep the other one as humbucker? Thank you!

PRS guitars are amazing!!! From SE to Core and every model in between you can't get a better guitar for the money. BTW the pickups are the same in the SE Custom 24 as the 24-08. Great review Sergio! I was wondering if you could answer a question regarding the floating bridge? Can you do a drop D tuning without putting all the strings out of tune? I'm wondering if it's like a Floyd Rose, where there's no way to just tune down the low E string 1 whole step without putting the the other strings out of tune. Thanks.
Glad you liked it! :) well the floating nature of the bridge makes the other strings go put of tune when you drop d or lower, so you’ll have to tune everything back. It’s annoying, but with a tuner (polytune especially) it’s quite easy
well a friend of mine replaced the ones in the Custom 24 (not 24-08) with the classic Seymour Duncan JB + Jazz combo, if you want a more les paul oriented tone that's gonna be it. But, remember: you'll may lose the splitting abilities (PRS split sounds best IMHO). You could also use the tone, especially when split I roll it down a bit to compensate for the highs! :) I also will test the USA PRS pickups sooner or later!
@@sergioserramusic Thanks for replying.....Les Paul tone sounds good....let me see....it's probably $250 for two pups plus $100 bucks to get them put in, so it's $350 on top of what I paid....I got to ask if it's worth it, and it would be a shame to lose that coil split .....basically I got the guitar so I could get those upper frets.
@@hanskung3278 well there are plenty on the used market, but yes the installation cost is there unless you can do it yourself. There are other splitting pickups, I don't know how they perform tho... Otherwise, consider replacing them but remember that if you plan on selling the guitar in the future, all the money you spend in it isn't coming back!

I agree on your take, if it hadn’t been a PRS, it would probably cost 700 max. But you pay the name, just like with the other top brands. The thing is: do you find something like this used? There aren’t that many 24 fret guitars, not many have rosewood, not many have a floating bridge that isn’t a floyd, not many are built very well in the sub 1000€ price range. So it’s tricky to find something that fits the need and the wallet of the guitarist, and to me this is yes a bit overpriced, yes the tuners should come locking as standard, but the rest is built brilliantly, it plays wonderfully out of the box, the bridge is a treat and if you’re searching for something that looks, feels and sounds this good today you have to put down more cash than a couple years ago (unfortunately). But yes, I support the used market because you can easily find gems there!

I’ve tried a couple prs se guitars, and they’re not bad. Not bad at all. The Paul’s guitar version is brilliant to me. And I like the switching system in this one too. The Mexican strats are getting better and better, to where some people prefer those ones to $4k custom ones. But as a general statement, I think we agree.
I really enjoyed your review, Sergio. You hit on all the really important points about this guitar and your playing is very good.👍👍👍 I'm considering purchasing one of the following PRS SE Series guitars: Mira, Custom 24, or the Custom 24-08. I have small hands, so I'm really interested in the thin neck on these three guitars. I'm also interested in the S2 Standard 24, but I'm not sure about the thicker neck being more challenging for someone with smaller hands like me. The more I look and the more I listen, I keep gravitating back to the 24-08. I like the sunburst finish better, but the green flame finish is really nice too. If you have any further tips, I'd appreciate it. Thanks! 🎸🎸🎸
Thank you :) I recently tried a Custom 24 S2, and the neck is a tiny bit thicker but it really is a great playing neck, and the one piece body and top are gorgeous. But that’s double the price of the SE, so keep that in mind. As far as the playing, all SEs (except the Standard maybe) play great, but the 24-08 is the best one yet IMHO, the pickups are better suited and the split coil makes it very versatile, but I recommend you go and check them out because you need to feel if the neck suits you! And yes, the sunburst is very gorgeous too 😉
@@sergioserramusic Thanks for your further advice and congratulations on owning one these 24-08's.
I was thinking the same thing about going to the guitar shop and actually trying them before deciding which one to buy. Do you have any thoughts on the SE Paul's guitar? It has the same coil split and some other nice features like that solid, tough bridge with brass. May not be a winner if someone wants a tremolo bridge.
@@audiophileman7047 the Paul’s guitar has the same switching, if you don’t want the tremolo that’s also a great guitar!
@@sergioserramusic Thanks, Sergio, you are really helpful. I've subscribed and look forward to more interesting videos from you. 🎸🎸🎸
