- Professor Marcus arrives to take lodgings at the home of delicate Mrs. Wilberforce. By evening he is visited by four friends, as weird and sinister as Marcus himself. So assembles the ugliest set of criminals one could wish to meet. They explain to the unsuspecting lady that they are members of a string quartet meeting to rehearse. The rehearsing, in fact, is for an armed robbery. The robbery over, Mrs. Wilberforce discovers the truth. Therefore she must be eliminated. But who will do it? The arguing of the issue brings about the hilarious twist to this ingenious Ealing comedy thriller.

this film in many many ways the end of an era the final Ealing comedy made in colour it still shows the old London of that time and within a decade all these streets and most of the buildings were all gone , people were still living in past the past and they still had the same values and considering that the second world war had been over 10 years at that time, The Film on the other hand was wonderful the cast were simply superb , Ealing with this film went out in style

Kind Hearts & Coronets is another and the 1960 The League of Gentlemen is another big favourite.
Never was a fan of US films, but did like a few from the 50's to 90's...the rest of the stuff just put me to sleep.
After years of watching rubbish on Freeview, Talking Pictures appeared and opened up a world I never knew was so big!
The huge amount of films us Brits made kind of shocked me.
P.S. My jaw dropped when I saw Joan Collins in Cosh Boy....she was hot!
