I’m a HuGE movie buff & yea I admit I can get pretty picky when it comes to Comedies, but I REALLY don’t understand why so many people dislike “The Ladykillers”?¿? Even longtime Fans of the Coen Brothers usually Rate this as the worst or least Favorite out of the entire Coen Brothers Collection. In all honesty I personally think “Ladykillers” is Hilarious. Unique atmosphere as always with the Coen Brothers; intelligent Humor masked with Slapstick comedy; Great Cast as well. Hell, I give it 4.3 out of 5
Dr. Madcap Rx Word, homie, word. I have seen ALL of the Coen brothers’ films- many of them more than once, some of them more than three times! The Ladykillers is my number one favorite of their movies. I also LOVE O Brother, Burn After Reading and A Serious Man.
Watch the original 1955 movie and the criticism may make more sense. Even with big guns like Tom Hanks, and the usually excellent Cohen Brothers at the wheel, it still falls a little short of the Ealing Studios original. Without even bothering to change the time period by making it modern day - basically just transferring it from one side of the Atlantic to the other - the whole premise is somewhat questionable.
@@alusknShe makes a reference to a song at the beginning by Tribe Called Quest and about it being 30 years after Martin Luther King. It was definitely set in more modern times.
I was born and have lived most of my life in Mississippi and I have met both men and women that remind me so much of the character Tom Hanks plays in this movie set in the North Delta of Mississippi!! 😂
I love the coen brothers productions. And I prefer this remake over the original maybe it's because I watched this one first. Just love the sleepy, slow pace feel to it. 😅
Tom Hanks is one of the main reasons I really loved this film. He stole the show by being his bad self. Tom played a different part so well in this, too.
Lump- Sniffed through the Sub Soil in search of others The General- Violated the rule of the house by lighting up a cigarette Mr. Pancake- An R n Foe of the Federal Reserve paying for Mountain Water's surgical procedure Gowaye- Sits in Silence
This film looks like it was made in a Sim like setting, with the variety of how unique each member of this gang looked. It was almost a Paul W Anderson film set in the Deep South.
I love Garth’s reaction when Hanks again says “Mountain Water” 😂
He likely considered correcting the Professor but decided not to.
General curdling of the vitreous jelly
I used to know this really tall girl and everyone called her Mountain Water haha. I never knew the reason until I rewatched this
@@matthewgabbard6415 OMG that's hilarious lol

Dr. Rx most def. I dont get it why a lot of people dont like this movie. This was one of the best comedies out there. 90% rating at the least
Compared to the original British 1955 version it is very shallow. This dumbed down remake is not half as clever or funny.

Really love this movie. I watched The Terminal last night and now this. I'm all Tom Hanks for this week.
When he called Mountain Girl; Mountain Water Pancake paused and wanted to correct him but didn't.
nationofmillions lol I never caught that before. good pick up
I love that you get the impression that they were hoping she somehow didn’t see the money so Hanks doesn’t mention it until she brings it up
I could listen to him talking like this all day. Doesnt have to make sense.
I know I loved Hank's dialog.
I have never been able to hear Professor Dorr say the words “laugh riotously” without slappin’ my knee & perhaps even wiping away a giddy tear or two.
how Hanks tries to spin this verbose line of bullshit is just one of the best parts of this classic film.
That was an awesome way of putting it. 'verbose line of bullshit'. I'm gonna have to remember that one
Have you seen the original 1955 British film this is based on? Alec Guiness (Obi Wan Kenobi) plays this role.
Speegs23 I watched only some of it, including the heist scene, on TCM a while ago. Imma def have to see the whole damn thing, ya’ heard?
