I had a Rosy Bourkes Parakeet that I got from a Exotic Bird Store , 3 years later it got sick and I had to put it down because the Avian Vet told me it was born with a Genetic Liver Disease .....needless to say I was Heart Broken ......It was a beautiful bird , very quiet ( I live in an apartment ) I just loved her !!! It happened right after my sister passed away and she named her Rose Bud.....I never cried so hard in my life !!! I'm thinking of getting another one because I loved her soooooo much........I'm sorry to be posting such a sad story , but I just wanted to tell you what happened to mine. ❤️❤️ Love your little ones .....so precious they are !!!!

I was sold one of these joyful chaps as a " plumhead " he had none of the characteristics of that breed. Have a very good local pet shop, they were sure he was no plumhead, made some phone calls, i have a pineapple Rosy bourke! He lost his lady last year, he was so sad. In a week now i know his personality, he is doing so well, in a week he is a different boy. Luckily, i am able to spend all day with him. Cant let him out yet but he is learning SO FAST. INCREDIBLE BOIDS!

I have 8 Rosy Bourkes. They wake up around 6:30 in the morning . The males get vocal in the morning and late evening right before their bed time around 9:30 pm. They're a very peaceful bird. I have a room I let them out to fly. They will all land on me. One refuses to go back to cage and will sleep on my neck all night if I let her. These beautiful birds get more vibrant colors as they get older.

I’m home all the time and my dog grew up with budgies. Plus my dog’s breeder had a dwarf parakeet as well. Thus one day would love a bourke when I can.

How do you get them to stay on the towel and not fly away ?

Either they are very young or their wings are clipped. They seem happy and well adjusted :)

Especially when you are first told he was a plumhead, nah, way too dignified.

We recently got a pair of hand fed bourkes and they seem to be getting more skittish. Is there a training plan for getting them out of the cage and to be less scared?

It's always that way with new birds. The only way to get them to trust you is constantly interaction. Start small, just hanging out near them. Eventually put your hand in their cage and just leave it there. After they, get use to it just existing in thier space start offering food. There is no quick way to earn trust. You got to work for it.

Do you recommend them in pairs or will one be okay alone? I’m home all day..

Which is more affectionate the male or female?
Like for cockatiels females are more loving and affectionate and the males are more vocal and learn tricks but don't really like to be touched as much as females.

Any left to adopt? Are they good in a super large cage with budgies?

No! Never mixed these bourkes with budgies. Budgies are tougher and can potentially hurt them.

Is that the bourke screeching in the background, or is that another type of bird?
I’m trying to grasp the noise level of this type of bird :)

They barely make noise, I have one. Very calm and chill birds overall :)
