    I know this video is older but I was wondering where do you buy your bird toys? I’m in love with the long stick that hangs from the ceiling and also the bird baths and stands. I’m always searching for safe bird products on various pet sites and amazon but never came across those toys and preaches 😊 thanks!

    Thank you for this informative video! I have a couple of questions. When you give them egg food, do you serve it dry, or is it mixed with water? Also, can you suggest a brand and a source for the dried insect food, please? Thank you! Love your channel.

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  6 років тому

      Hi, I give the egg food dry. I sometimes make it wet but not often as it goes bad fast so dry is safer. This is the insect food that I use amzn.to/2OasGEY

    This is great to see! My bourkes had two babies as well and they are about 3weeks old. I’d like to try your method as I’d want them to get used to people but I’m not brave enough to attempt hand feeding. Im just worried if the parents will abandon them or start laying new eggs by taking them out for half an hour few times a day. The parents are not tame. What’s your thought on this? How do you think Id be able to prevent my concerns? Thank you,

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  2 роки тому

      Hi. It's a 50/50 chance you take but generally parents will go back in the nest to feed them. Start off with a minute or two and increase the time.
      The nest box will have to be cleaned anyway.

    I have a pair of Bourkes the female is happier when she has babies. She just had her first clutch. I don't plan on breeding them again. My question is about her behavior otherwise. Bourkes are so chill and my M is but my F squawks and yells at the M, at me, at life, LOL. When she doesn't have babies. What causes her attitude? There is no way I can handle her or her babies, without her throwing a holy fit. I want to separate her from the babies once they're fledged so she doesn't teach them to be so cranky. What do you think?

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 роки тому

      My females do this too. They are hormonal. I try not to bother them. I handfeed them spray millet at times to keep them trusting me but I only offer the millet when they are calm otherwise I would be encouraging that behavior. That's why I like males better 😀

    Hi madam, can we handfeed turquoisine parakeet..

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  5 років тому +1

      Sure you can although sometimes they don't stay tame. You have to handle them alot to keep them tame. I have seen tame touquoisines. I had two that where handled but we're not handled very much by the breeder and I tried to tame then but could not so it depends on how much time you spend on them. If you just hand feed and don't handle them they won't be tame

      Go for zebra finches / Budgies both are great but please do know (research) much about them before purchase. And one thing, no matter big / smaller, birds are birds, one must be handle with care & gentle. Most important properly know about the interested breed & their life etc.
      All the best 👍

    Is there anyway other then DNA Testing, to know what sex they are?
    And how old until they actually eat by themselves or can have regular food, or fruit and veggies? Thank you in advance.

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, when they are an adult you may be able to tell by their behaviour. Females raise up their tail and make chirpy sounds when they want to breed. Males do a dance.
      They usually start eating when getting ready to wean at anywhere between 6 to 10 weeks as each bird is an individual. I start offering millet spray to 4 week old babies when still in the nest. I put it in the nest box. Once they come out of the box I offer lots of soft fresh foods along with pellets and seeds.
      If handfeeding you can offer spray millet at soft foods after 4 to 5 weeks. They will start to eat on their own and still take handfeeding after 5 to 6 weeks.
      They will weak themselves when ready.

      @Loveofpets  8 місяців тому

      Awh, that's so tragic. Bourkes spend a lot of time walking and foraging on the floor so it is best to remove grate or cover with paper. Bourkes need their wings to get around as they have shorter legs then budgies and rarely climb the cage bars like budgies or other birds do. Please don't clip their wings. Teach them the recall.

    I don't think you let your birds breed in previous years... what made you decide to try this year? Did their behaviour suggest they really wanted to do it? So curious!

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  6 років тому +1

      S U My Bourke has been laying eggs while sitting on the perch or at the bottom of the cage, it's not good for the mother to keep laying eggs as it can drain the calcium out of them and make them weak or they can become egg bound or other health problems can occur. I decided to give them a nest box to see how it would go. Its best to let them lay the eggs and let them sit in them until they either hatch or they they get tired of laying on them. The mother laid some eggs and sat on them but they never hatched. I took the nest box down for a while until she stared to lay again. I gave her the nest box again and figured they won't hatch but was surprised that one day I saw one baby, I was so shocked and excited. She had four eggs but onit two hatched.
      I wanted to add more Bourkes to my flock anyway. Bourke's are hard to find in my area so now I don't have to search for any. I am keeping these two babies.
      Thanks for watching and hope this answers your question. Most of my other birds are males so no babies from them.
