    I've had the same zippo for 10 years, I have carried it probably the last 4 years everyday and the lid has always been pretty loose since I got it back out. I just fixed it in 5 minutes and I'm grateful for this video. I was worried I would break the hinge before.

    I haven't run into this problem yet, but it's good knowing that fixing it isn't too complex. Didn't know how important Zippos are to you, it's something that is old and tested, and can last w/care.

    I got a new brass Zippo with a nice and tight hinge but with a underbite. I simply took the lighter without the insert installed in my hands and take my thumbs, (one behind the other) and press/push the top in the direction it needs to go. Super simple. No tools required. Armor case may be a bit to tough to do. Don't have one and never tried.

    Yeah, a hinge can be A LITTLE loose when open, but it’s very obvious that Zippo’s manufacturing standards have become sub zero as of the past 20 years. Amazon is full of people reporting genuine products as counterfeits, because they just can’t imagine a real product by an established brand would feel this shabby. It’s the age old brand name problem, where the accountants have come in and found out how badly they can make the construction so that people just about value their time sending it back more than they hate the quality. Corporatism. As someone with a very fond memory of the 80s zippo I got from my brother, I’m just not gonna buy a new one. Breaks my heart when companies piss on their legacy like this…

    • @KOL630
      @KOL630 Рік тому

      I have to admit I took delivery of a new zippo today which I bought from the website and the hinge is loose AF it seems really poor quality. Cost nearly £40 with delivery which is way too expensive for the sub pay quality. Not pleased with it really. I had one years ago and it I’m sure it was better constructed than my new one.

      Also received a zippo I ordered today, tumbled brass armor. Hing was loose out the box, i guess its normal then. I have another armor zippo and hinge aint as bad but it’s antique silver. Not sure if its just a brass thing or zippo armor thing, but most of my regular zippos dont have that much play in the hinge. Shout out to ZF77 great video great chanel! 🤙🏾

      @@ZippoFanatic77 Thanks for the reply. I examined the hinge and the pin lightly shuttles when I push it. I followed your advise and went delicately. I used a precision screwdriver along with a soft hit with a hammer just like yours. Although I might not have your dexterity, I have been able to reach a good result. All is perfect now. Zippo’s design seems to be very forgiving ! Thank you for directing our attention on the normal situation in having a backlash (or play) on the hinge. I never noticed. Best regards.

    I got a tumbled brass armor a few hours ago on your recommendation. I love it, especially the sound and weight, the hinge was absolutely terrible out of the box though, like every zippo that isn't a replica 😅 I start by squeezing the hinges together from the outside edges, then get them all aligned flat by squeezing them from the inside like you do. From there I take a hand file to the four corners around the hinge if they need it then I'll put a rag over the lighter and lightly tap the top corners down into shape with a hammer especially if theres a gap closer to the hinge than the wheel.
