Gave up the smoking habit in 2001. But when I was in the army my trusty zippo never let me down in the 16 years I served. Passed it on to a friend of mine about 10 years ago and it's still going strong. Wish all of today's gadgets were as reliable as the zippo.
+taj1994 jep, i myself have a "zippo" from some company called tristar, the only real difference is that the zippo holes on the chimney are 3 on top, 2 in middle and 3 on bottom, my tristar one has 3 - 1 - 3. but in the end is works just like a normal zippo, havent noticed any flaws, the same lighter pretty mutch, and i only paid 1.99€ for mine.
@@stttrm actually no, Star lighter make a 100% legal "zippo" lighter. they are actually the biggest in the world in term of oil reusable lighter sales. zippo only sold 12million lighter in 2018, by comparison BIC sells 6million disposable lighter *A DAY* and Star sold 21million lighter in 2018.
You're comparing series 7 to 13, changes have been made between them. I have a series XI and it wouldn't pass your real/fake test as it says Made in Zippo... but all the stamping is sideways, too. Both of those are real, only the one without the Zippo markings is not a Zippo. As for the sound: the lighter in the middle has been stamped, which will change the sound. The "fake" has a higher pitch because it's thinner metal.
The second one, at the bottom, if you look closely, you'll see the i and flame of Zippo is different. The flame is smaller and levitating over the I instead of touching it. Significant sign to say it's fake. At least the casing is fake in the second one.
estatik 01 never mind does zippo write made in zippo usa or zippo made in usa. Original zippo must stamp be up in this second lighter is not up stamp, this stamp is down and wheel in first is original, second is fake.
anonymous0001 0001 I own Zippos that were made as far back as 1935, 2nd year of production. the 2nd lighter is indeed a Zippo. I should know, I own it, came in a collectors box along with the first release gg blaisdale laser zip, and the zip car commemorative. look it up.
I have an original Zippo that has "Made in Zippo USA", also have two other originals that have "Zippo, made in USA", the fake one in this seems to have much deeper etching of the wording on the insert so that's one way of spotting it, real Zippos have thin but clean etching.
Not sure how that's relevant to my comment dude. In any case, anyone who actually puts effort into making a product, even a replica product, is usually going to have pride to put their own brand on it, the only reason most Zippo fakes are bad is because they really don't care, the aim is to get the cheapest product they can that resembles a Zippo, and then sell it for the premium Zippo price using the brand image as an advantage, because their own identity isn't linked to the product, they take no responsibility for it's longevity, that usually means lower quality metal, iffy welding, and loose fit. Also one advantage with Zippos is the unlimited fixes for free, you won't get that with a replica that looks like a Zippo but isn't.
Also, you really think CNC machining is actually cheaper than production line drawing of brass sheets? No way dude, CNC machining is usually for one off items or small batches, it's never your first choice for mass production of items (especially simple items like a couple of single piece lighter case parts) that can be made much cheaper via other means, it's very wasteful of materials if you consider the mass of the block you start off with and the mass of the item you finish with (the case parts are hollow, only 0.02mm thick). Source, trained as an engineer working lathes, milling machines and CNC machines.
You can see the stamping on the original zippo @ 2:37 is stamped further left at where Zippo MFG is printed... i didn't know there were counterfeit Zippos lol.
Zippo two is original. It is so because it is more old model 1970-1995 about. Zippo 1 is original. differences with the second because it is newest model. Only the zippo third is fake.
I own six or seven Zippos and a zippo style lighter that I bought in Ukraine with an image of their liberator Boghdan Khmelnitskiy and Cyrillic engraving. Actually very interesting and uses the same Zippo fuel and flints. There are plenty of Zippo lookalikes; their real problem is that unlike Zippos they will not last forever. I own a Zippo style lighter branded Zenith from the sixties, with the Portuguese National Airline TAP old logo engraved. Instead of holes in the chimney it has slots. A charming lighter, but you need a screwdriver to fill it or replace the flint, and its gasket must be in perfect condition or the lighter will leak; and sooner or later the screws or the gasket will be lost. therefore, it is no match for a Zippo.
Video not entirely correct The second Zippo is also original, the writing Made in Zippo USA and not Zippo Made in USA, can be found in many Zippo before 2010, the only real elements to identify if a Zippo is original or not are 6: 1) written on case back corresponding to the codes available on the Zippo website, 2) crisp and smudged lettering on the inside of the Zippo and with the numbers and letters present and present on the case as well as on the general quality of the materials 3) 16 holes not 4 ) Screw that holds felt and wadding, perfectly seated and perfectly inserted 5) Classic noise or better sound of opening and closing 6) Weight of 60 gr for the normal 40 for the slim.
Thanks for putting this video out because someone tried to tell me my zippo was a fucking fake, but we watched this video and squashed ALL the misconceptions. My zippo is identical to the original you showed, except it has a "C 15" imprint instead. I'm guessing that just means it's from a different plant in the US. Reminds me of US Paper money printed at different Federal Reserves.
The second is a fake, but not for the "Made in Zippo USA", if not for other factors. I've two original Zippos made in 1991 (D VII) and 1998 (I XIV) and both have that sentence. The middle is not fake. The reason it is written "made in zippo usa" inside, is because that particular piece is built in 2007. The first one is made in 2013.
I own several replica series lighters. I have two 1941 replicas (1941 & 1941B). I also have two replicas of 1935. The one is manufactured in 2007 and inside it is written "made in zippo usa" and the other one is manufactured in 2016 and inside it is written "zippo made in usa".
Ty for this video was got my first 2 zippos today and they didnt look the same especially the chimney of the 2nd one has a big jole in the middl but i think thats new for 2020 because the L 2019 does not have it. The flint you showed matched exatly so i am sure its a real one ty
It's absolutely normal. I 12 means your case was made in September 2012. And your insert was made in August 2012. So they probably just made a lot of inserts in August and then when the cases were made in September, they used the extra inserts from the month before.
+precizion303 it means that the insert has been made in June 2015 and that your case has been msde in July 2015. mine is D 15 on both which means that the case and the insert have been made in april 2015. A= January; B=February.... L=December and the number stands for the year. have a good day

I just bought a new original Zippo lighter. I did the whole process just like the video, but it lights up for a few seconds and the flame goes off, I'm using everything original Zippo, could anyone give a tip?

You can't rely on the ping to know if it's real or fake. Zippos make different pings based on finishes or emblems they may have.

I'm fine then, my $20 ebay zippo dated 2008 has the placement and fit of the 2013 zippo and the stamps from the 2007 zippo.

#2 is a real zippo.
If you wanna avoid fake zippos, try buying it from the official zippo website.
Works wonders my man.
I just bought a new original Zippo lighter. I did the whole process just like the video, but it lights up for a few seconds and the flame goes off, I'm using everything original Zippo, could anyone give a tip?
Zippo lists the MSRP for the basic brushed chrome model as just under $14. Walmart sells them for $5.
Fake Zippo will break easily
