Loved the chat guys, thank you. My first 7 Series was a new '53-reg. 730d MSport; yes, one Bangle's early controversial designs. Tanzanite blue with beige leather; absolutely loved it - a perfect family cruiser, (our children were both still at school then). One Half-Term we drove from home in Surrey to Salzburg, adding a round-trip to visit friends living in Munich. The week included a few hours of 100-110mph motoring - some on roads just freshly cleared of snow - plus many miles at much slower speed too and, whilst this doesn't compare to Joe and Patrick's achievement 👏👏, our consumption for the total trip (1912 miles) was a fraction over 2.5 tanks of diesel. Genuinely outstanding engineering from BMW! Here's to many more hours of Drive Torque!!
Surely it couldn’t have been Tanzanite Blue on a Beemer? That was my favourite Mercedes colour at the time, and I’m pretty sure they’d copyrighted the name for 10 yrs or whatever the exclusion period is…😃
Motoring journalist Stuart Bladon (1933-2023) of Diesel Car mag and others, regularly used to do this sort of thing, having held several Guinness records. He did an article once explaining Specific Fuel Consumption (SFC) which is different for each engine and load. Most cars, the SFC graph shows a small oval on the graph which normally equates to 90kmh (56mph). This article was early 90s about an Audi 100TDI range record he did. 😊
The Behind The Scene is as fascinating as the adventure's video itself. Thank you for sharing. Have you thought about an "uncut video" or sequences that haven't been shown yet? Of course, and as mentioned at the end of the podcast, what's next?
Brilliant episode. Loved the main channel challenge and also the chat about it. Really interesting, never even thought an ICE car was capable of anything near that mpg. Very enjoyable 👍👍👍
What an utterly stupid flex this is. I thought the "hallucinating over the Pyrenees" showed what lengths people will take to prove a point. Tired of your John o groats to Lands end trips? You too can take a 23 hour non stop drive to Spain 😂
It wasn't a flex, more a challenge and experiment continuing on from our 7 series trip. The video has well over 300000 views in less than a week, appears the majority of people loved it, at least the ones who didn't think it was an "utterly stupid flex".
To put it another way, if you had driven an EV down and only charged at free chargers to Morocco non stop it would be great UA-cam. But no one does this outside of Content creation.
@@fraserwright9482 So basically content creators produced good content that has since gone viral? Whereas you sit on your bum criticizing other people's success...
@@fraserwright9482oh please! Can no one do anything in the name of challenge, interest or even just entertainment any more without someone moaning about it?
@@JoeAchilles1sitting on your bum is what your audience does. As @markifi pointed out, finding a 10 year old car with larger than normal spec fuel tank as though you were using the same 50l tank as other cars as a way to make "one tank" appear more efficient. In the same way you have "The Truth" in the title as though there is a lie as this generates views thru tribalism within your audience or people who are looking for friction against modern cars and in particular EVs. People hyper mileing EVs with the fans/AC off with space saver tires are held up in the same place as your stunt suffering for art.
Fantastic episode, glad the Passat made it and delivered. Then some! Awesome car, great stuff guys!
Thanks and we're glad the Passat made it without any issues (after it was fixed beforehand 😉)

Wow that is a cool story/memory, the 30d has and always will be a hero engine, those are impressive figures!
Thanks chaps, enjoyed the trip video and this chat content. Am now considering replacing current tyres to E Primacy.
Cheers Greg, glad you liked it!
Great trip video and chat. Patrick is some man for one man when it comes to the figures.
Haha yes Pat is strict!

Entertaining video guys
Cheers Peter!
Loved this one, catching up with podcasts whilst I've been away on holiday, coincidentally in Southern Spain where the fuel is very cheap.
Brilliant episode. Loved the main channel challenge and also the chat about it. Really interesting, never even thought an ICE car was capable of anything near that mpg. Very enjoyable 👍👍👍
Nice one! Great follow up to an epic adventure... I'd love to see an outtakes video, please 🙏
Cheers Bryce!
What a trip.Well done guys.
Cheers!
Brilliant pod, and makes the video even better. Phenomenal adventure! Love it. Chapeau
56mph was the speed around which fuel consumption for combined figures so good choice👍. Great video and achievement, super job!
London to Lisbon would be Amazing!!!
Think that was their back up, they will have to go bigger next time!
Guys that is some trip, how did you do that without any backup team. Great video and as you say that cant be made up.
Glad you liked it!
Amazing, I think you’ve doubled the price of old VW Passatts now !
😂👌
you could have stopped in bordeaux to wait out the traffic jam. you don't consume fuel when the engine is off
They could have stopped for days to wait for the weather to improve. The Bordeaux traffic could have lasted all day.
