Nice vid. I returned my m1 MacBook Pro for the m1 MacBook Air. No regrets. I found absolutely no difference in performance compared to the pro for my usage (5-6 chrome tabs open, UA-cam video playing, multiple Microsoft word documents open, chatting on iMessage on the side). I hate the garbage touch bar. It’s completely useless and it boggles my mind that apple hasn’t changed it in any way since its initial release. The speakers sound the same to me as they did in the pro and, although the screen is supposed to be a bit dimmer, I haven’t noticed any difference. Overall I’m very happy with my purchase and urge ppl to get the MacBook Air over the pro.

I am glad I ordered the Macbook Air 16gb. That's the right choice, same M1 chip (no need for 8k editing), 16GB for coding, and the thunberbolt 4 port means I can store all large files video footage on external SSD.

So, buying a high end version is quite impossible, atleast for students like me and we don't get proper idea about the lower version. Being a developer , this was very important for me to know. Just FYI, PUBG, Fortnite and most games owned by Epic Games (not PUBG, but it also runs unreal engine), cannot be played on Apple devices because of them bypassing that 30% cut. So.... that's the reason

Great video, great insights. In the end what you told was exactly what I was searching for. The emulator problem and 16 GB ram. Please make back to back videos with m1 mahine especially when the emulation is supported well enough. Also is 256 Gb good enough for programming? Keeping in mind, I own an external hard drive 1tb for all the unimportant stuff like pictures and all.
M1 looks promising, but I'll prefer to wait until the full support of the Rosetta emulator. The migration process will be long even for Mac. The hight end computers are not ready on M1 yet, and also a lot of applications need to migrate to take real advantage of the M1. For Software engineer compatibility matters, I'll keep on Intel until is safe. On another hand, if you are using your Mac for email, document editions, or light gaming it is completely fine to go for an M1 mac
Early adopter issue for m1, as time progresses m1 will stomp 16" for everyday tasks and xcode. You should use a laptop stand that can elevate the laptop to provide proper airflow which can reduce the temps.
Harnoor, all the software are not yet fully compatible and the M1 chip will still take time to get stable. So, it's better to stick with the Intel's version..!!
I was going to do the same, but RISC-V ruined my plans. Much faster machines can appear less than a year, and it is insane to buy a new computer so frequent.

1. Can a student buy one buy these devices and expect that Rosetta 2 would do the job or better to go for a Windows laptop instead? Would 256 gbs be enough if I do NOT store any media on device. Essentially is 256gb enough for softwares and applications? Because either RAM or SSD upgrades cost 18,000 here in India I think that's too much, isn't it? Also would 8GB RAM be enough if I use applications with discipline? 2. Will M1 work fine for Data Science and Analytics softwares? Specifically for those people who're into Data Science & Analytics & Android Development. (normal tools like Python's Juptyer notebook, PyCharm, Jetbrains, ). Its his money and everything , got it. But an honest suggestion as a tech geek is, if you don't need that insane battery life like if you're at home or you have a port handy in your office, macbooks are useless. The new air doesn't even have a fan, I get it it's efficient but it will eventually throttle after severe loads. Me personally, I value my money and I'll rather buy a 6-7hrs battery windows laptop with insane amd 4000 series laptop than a first gen ARM based laptop. Its true, most people don't care what they're getting for the money that's how apple has become a trillion dollar company.
You should build a PC, computer parts are cheap in USA as compared to India. You can build a really good PC for editing and gaming at around 1000-1500$, you already have a monitor and a table so you dont even have to buy that as well.

Please make back to back videos with m1 mahine especially when the emulation is supported well enough. Also is 256 Gb good enough for programming? M1 looks promising, but I'll prefer to wait until the full support of the Rosetta emulator. The migration process will be long even for Mac. The hight end computers are not ready on M1 yet, and also a lot of applications need to migrate to take real advantage of the M1. For Software engineer compatibility matters, I'll keep on Intel until is safe. On another hand, if you are using your Mac for email, document editions, or light gaming it is completely fine to go for an M1 mac

Early adopter issue for m1, as time progresses m1 will stomp 16" for everyday tasks and xcode. You should use a laptop stand that can elevate the laptop to provide proper airflow which can reduce the temps.
Harnoor, all the software are not yet fully compatible and the M1 chip will still take time to get stable. So, it's better to stick with the Intel's version..!!

Its his money and everything , got it. But an honest suggestion as a tech geek is, if you don't need that insane battery life like if you're at home or you have a port handy in your office, macbooks are useless. The new air doesn't even have a fan, I get it it's efficient but it will eventually throttle after severe loads. Me personally, I value my money and I'll rather buy a 6-7hrs battery windows laptop with insane amd 4000 series laptop than a first gen ARM based laptop. Its true, most people don't care what they're getting for the money that's how apple has become a trillion dollar company.

You should build a PC, computer parts are cheap in USA as compared to India. You can build a really good PC for editing and gaming at around 1000-1500$, you already have a monitor and a table so you dont even have to buy that as well.
