i love this video so much joel! as a candle maker (owner of madame fiction) I have some tips as you continue this little adventure! firstly, use your digital scales to measure your oil... i wouldn't eyeball it. get a specific tub for measuring your oils and do between 7-10%. if you accidentally put too much oil in it, the candle won't burn properly. so if you have 1000 grams of wax, maximum 100 grams of oil :) secondly, i recommend wearing a protective mask! i use a high-quality gas mask, especially when working in an enclosed space, like your kitchen. after all, they're synthetic fragrances and do have some warnings, so it's important when working with them in such high concentration that you keep your lungs healthy and safe! all the best! the candles look great! X
I am so glad this is the first of your videos I'm watching. You're so personable, and I love that you attempted making candles! I'm excited to see the rest of the mini-series.
Ohhh that was fun to watch! I've never made candles but I love crafts (clay) and admire how you've done all that research before starting. Anyone doing a certain craft really appreciates the time someone else takes to learn about it instead of taking it 'too easy' on their first try. Also it's very sweet that you got all this support / information to help you :D And for your first candle attempt, it looks really lovely :) Good luck on continuing that journey!
I think it’s amazing that these companies were amazingly fourth coming and so suppurative of you. I want to go and support them now bc they were so amazing. Best of luck with your candles. I think that would be an amazing gift... a book and a corresponding candle... love it
This is perfect timing! I have been looking to buy some bookish candles and will definitely check out the companies you recommended! I've also wanted to make a DIY candle during quarantine but I didn't even think of making a bookish one. Thanks so much for the inspiration and the helpful guidance! It's so great of you to share the tips you've received xx
We absolutely stan a candle king!! I absolutely love that you pair ur outfits to ur videos, like as a bisexual, its the culture, also whose the lucky new boyfriend of urs! congrats
wow, i just found you and your personality is great, i loved watching this! props to all the research you did. also, thanks for using one of my songs in the video, i feel really honoured :)
I don't think the frosting is bad! With a soy candle that's just something that happens and it's handmade so I expect them to have unique variance. My mom and I have been making candles all quarantine and it's so fun and such a money saver
I don't know what it is about you, but everytime I watch your video it makes my day. Your presence is so calming but you're also hilarious and just. I don't know. But you're amazing and thank you for that💖
Been looking forward to this since you said you were making candles on your insta story! I've been wanting to make some but I've been too scared. Might give it a try this time
Thank you, Joel. You're amazing. I'm definitely gonna make my next candles with coffee scent. For your next experiment, you should try to make succulent candles and use floral scents. They're amazing. 🌱
Love the smart business casual wears. 😍😂 I love that you have included all the info you gathered about candle making. Honestly, it's something I didn't even realise was a thing until I started seeing all these candles on bookstagram! It's pretty cool and such an awesome thing! Also YEEESSSSSSSSSS the internet is so good for all the artistical folksicals for creating small business that are passion projects!! Creative freedom is everything 😍 I've only just joined bookstagram and honestly yup my eyes are opened to the wonderful warmness of the community and all the support there is.
Good job on the candles! I've always been interested in candle making stuff😁 WAIT POPPY WAR MENTION YESSSSSSSS I started the Black Veins today👀 and by today, I meant I spent most of the video planning my tabbing system because I just know I'll like it🤣
Ive always had problems with standard wick in the past but been thinking of making wood wick candles for a while now so this feels like a lil nudge ahaha
I've been wanted to make candles for a while so I guess this video is a sign for me to start sooner than later, this might sound really weird but a dream that I've had for a while is to one day have a whole closet for just candles ever since I've seen a video where Tan France (famous fashion designer if you didn't know) had that in his house. It's kind of like my benchmark for success I guess, like when I'm successful enough to get a closet for candles I'll know that I've made it.
Hi Joel!!! I’m so excited to watch this video, you’re one of my favorite booktubers because you’re so entertaining and so funny to watch! I love the candle making outfit! 😂
That’s your first attempt? That’s amazing! You definitely have a business in the making there! If you’re found more merch stuff, how about bath bombs? It’s a shame bookish bath bombs isn’t a popular thing! (Unless it is and I’m ignorant haha)
yesss as soon as I saw the video title, I was like "he should do Black Veins and then he could do her family's coffee shop" and I'm so happy! except for the fact that I can't buy one!!
this video has made me realize i kinda wanna bop around & learn how to make candles.... why am i becoming my own manic pixie dream girl, what is happening
this seems really fun, but i think it's one of those "don't attempt this at home, kids" moment for me, because i'd make a mess and likely burn myself along the way xD
I wanna make fanart of you because you are goals in many ways. Is that a thing you're comfortable with? :) (if not of course, then I won't make any haha)
I do candles and, honeslty, 4 days of cure is more then enough for me ahaha there is an amazing youtube channel (stanley craft) that has a good video on that :))
there's no finer comedy than saying "Let's hope everything goes well" and then smash cut to the thing not going well. gets me every time.
my two favourite things combined: joel and candle making. God looked at me and smiled today 😍
akdkskdkxk god said “content”

I've been wanted to make candles for a while so I guess this video is a sign for me to start sooner than later, this might sound really weird but a dream that I've had for a while is to one day have a whole closet for just candles ever since I've seen a video where Tan France (famous fashion designer if you didn't know) had that in his house. Candle making is something I’ve been curious about for a while but I’m too scared of working with hot things to give it a go 😂
I annotate whenever a character describes how the LI smells

If only I could still have candles😂
(Candles are toxic to parrots and I am a very proud parrot owner)

fictionalfates thank you!! I’ll show you when I’ve made it :) Stay awesome, Joel ❤️
"something with a longer spout" 👀
I am impressed. I love candles, but could never make them myself. Just the accurancy you need and the hot wax no,no,no no no. Not for me.
Candle making is so much fun 😍! I love your channel. Come and visit us one day if you can, would love to share what we've been up to 😊💚💞
I would never read the night circus again if it meant I could be half as pretty as you
I do candles and, honeslty, 4 days of cure is more then enough for me ahaha there is an amazing youtube channel (stanley craft) that has a good video on that :))
Its really not easy ahahaha
