The distance objects looks too blurry with a lot of missing grass. 1440p 60fps higher setting (better than PS4 pro setting) can be done on old GPU like GTX 970. THis is not really demanding game, and yet PS4 pro loses to GTX 970 in this particular game The game already runs 1080p on base PS4. On PS4 pro the only benefit is having higher resolution but same setting which does not sound like a good upgrade. Other games show bigger improvement on PS4 pro

I don't think it's really a question of graphics most of the time. Most games on current gen consoles seem to end up bottlenecked by the CPU since it has low performance per thread and requires games to use efficient, highly multithreaded engines. Many developers just don't have the time or skill to actually make efficient use of the CPU, so you get all those games running at sub-30 fps for no apparent reason. MGSV's engine is very well optimized and the game doesn't actually have a lot of stuff going on in its open world, so it has no problem maintaining a locked 60 fps.
parazels83 Right. Mgs5 looks amazing. Might not be nearly as much going on as there is in the other AAA game worlds like the witcher, assassins creed or grand theft auto, but MGS 5 is definitely a top 3 looking game on console and budget hardware.
It's fun and all, but if you ever want to play MGS I'd recommend playing them in order of their release. I'm kind of surprised mgs5 sold so well, the game does not give you all the backstory you should know before hand, and even though mgs5 is not very story heavy there are parts of it that I'm sure confuse newcomers.
Honestly I forgot how impressive metal gear is, its graphics still hold up well especially for a open world game and it hits 60fps. When you hear that consoles can’t hit 60fps people should look at this game.

It helps when the game is heavily stylized and isn't trying to go for the hyper-realism the majority of other game developers strive for... Being a stylized game, it will take considerably longer to start looking dated. Look at nintendo first party games for example, they'll still be pleasing to the eye for years and years to come now they're going for an almost Pixar-esque visual style.
This game had years of optimization. Most game developers simply don't put that kind of time into consoles anymore because it takes a lot of time to optimize compared to PC. There's a reason why only games sponsored or made in studio by Sony or Microsoft hit 1080p60 on the base ps4 or xbone models.

Gameplay was ok. It had some pretty grindy parts tbh. And story was ok, but it felt pretty unready. The older parts where better by a long shot. :/ Also missed the thing the series was all about. The sometimes silly sneaking and a good and long story. Hated the grinding parts. :/
Yesterday I played a couple of missions and I didn't notice any upgrade. Even the HUD and iDroid are still rendered at lower resolution. The worst thing is, I find my FOBs being invaded 8 times during last year.
Allan Sh when i was logging on everyday, my fobs would get invaded over a dozen times a month beforr i even started invading other players. Then increased to a dozen times a day. Lol
AcidGlow I don't know what kind of system you have but I play on an Xbox One and everybody laughs at me because it does 720 or 810p but I don't care I enjoy playing games not necessarily what they look like or the frame rate just if I have fun playing it or not. I will probably buy a base PS4 so I can play some of those awesome exclusives. But it cracks me up how everybody's going crazy about visuals and frame rates.
Nice to see a patch for such a old game. It doesn't really surprise me that it's just a resolution upgrade cause why would they interfere with something that works perfectly and not in active development.
I've put nearly a thousand hours into the game over the years, and the ambient occlusion is way less fuzzy on ground foliage, less frequent abrupt pop ins, slightly more object retention on the immediate horizons (really noticeable with distant soldiers and resource containers in night vision, in large bases like the airports). The lighting model is better resulting in nicer light halation from the destructible light sources (very noticeable on a KS8000), better shadows, nicer blue hues in the moonlit skies resulting in better night time clarity and color, and a richer softness to some of the sun cast... which is actually giving the game better color overall due to how objects and the world are lit. The trees sway a tiny bit more too, and you can notice it in the leaf shadow patterns cast onto the ground. The overall motion is much smoother. These individual components are very subtle, but it's cumulatively a nice overall improvement to image quality and feel. More definitely would be nice (HDR would have been incredible), and I'm keen to see if I can get something closer to PC on Xbox One X soon with full 4K textures and even better lighting/shadow, but I appreciate this little bump to my favorite game of the generation.
So it's still not enhanced for the One X, I just picked this game up on my One X but if it looks better on Pro I'm going to take it back and trade it for the PS4 Pro version

No one ever assumed or said it is 4k. Sony even advertises it as "Dynamic 4k". Simple fact it provides higher resolution than 1080p is immediatly better than 1080p. Doesn´t need to be 4k.
This game rocks even on Stander PS4 1080p with nearly stable 60 fps (not easy for semi open world) runing this game with that performance is not easy Fox Engine is very good actually, it's combine great performance with good details Kojima is really one of best devolpers out there, Konami will cry when "Death Stranding" sells 10 million copies lol

I care more for res than textures if the textures are already decent quality. Having extra detail etc at 1080p and playing on a 4k screen gets blurred and those higher res textures won't look good being stretched 4x no matter how you look at it. Atleast the game will look clean and not blurred. Framerate is boosted so I'm happy about that too

Are there bug reports on the res upgrade? I'm on a 55" 4K and I don't see a difference. I'm not shitting on it, because I do notice a big improvement on games that go from 1080p to 1440p, but this one looks exactly the same tbh :(

So if you have the super sampling disabled the boost mode will work right? I'm just wondering because it's pro patched (obviously) and it doesn't internally super sample so the boost mode should work with the super sampling disabled on the system level right?
Nice to have support for the system finally after so long. Going to be real here though I beat this on PC already which is the superior version especially in 4k . I do have it on PS4 as well and works great too although Konami waited far too long to upgrade this game. 1440p support for any game on the pro is welcome though.
Sony doesn't make this, ask Konami, and also Konami never said "4k dynamic output". If you make a game on PS4 platform with only 720p, and it sells crazy, Sony will not banned your game just because you don't patch 4k.
William Fenton Still on PC the GTX 1070 is the 1440p card to go... ( Even though the RX 480, the 580 and the GTX 1060 can do most games at that or higher on medium to high settings.... My point is that at 1440p is not a bad trade... Plus in a 1080p TV you don't get nothing but super sample, but on a 4k TV ( which is the next resolution on TVs) is out putting the image at 1440p upscaled by the TV to 4k and referred to it as "Dynamic" ridiculous I know, but not bad at all... Games still look pretty good! I would've rather FPS over Res.

Mark cerny claimed at release of ps4 pro that RPM will also affect ps4 pro when released. It was released like a month ago. And this takes a 64 bit operation and makes it 2 32 bit operations at the same time or something along those lines. Which essiently will give ps4 pro 8.4 teraflops mark cerny claims.

The pc version ia best. Gtx 970 can run it 1440p with highest setting which looks better than pa4 pro which uses same setting as ps4 and xbox one but just higher resolution

I had a 1440p monitor that I was using for my Pro - ironically incapable of displaying games at 1440p. You gotta get a 4K monitor / TV for that. I put it down to 1440p being skipped over on TVs (never seen one myself), despite being fairly prominent amongst monitors. I think I’m probably in the minority of console owners who uses a monitor for my PS4
Still happy getting support. I am 90hours in game with pro and was disappointed no advantages taken. Really great game, still on chapter 29 but played FOB missions way too much huhu
Many awesome things have been said about the X1X and it's indeed an impressive machine but it surprises me that no one is talking about the risk of overheating. This console has a new cooling system and that's great, but will it be enough to keep the system running ok when playing games at native 4K? It's a console after all, not a PC. I guess we will find out very soon.
The Xbox 360 red ring of death from overheating was due to its design at the time and the hardware inside of it was bulky and so tightly together the airflow wasn't getting thru in a tight space. There wasn't overheating problems with og Xbox or og Xbox one or XB1S so I'm sure the XB1X will be fine with all the vents on the back and sides
The other games that run at 1440p also raise the resolution of texture, better shadows, longer draw distance, etc. Lots of games run at native 4k. It is up to the developer if they want to aim at higher resolution or other effects.
It's very noticeable to me on an LG B6. It's not Horizon or Ratchet but I wasn't expecting that, either. I'm very surprised we even got this 1440p update.

Don’t blame you, the added costs of buying a 4K HDR OLED to justify the full potential and the higher costs of UHD discs. The main hidden cost in buying a much larger hard drive, than the insufficient 1tb standard drive, needed for those huge 4K game files!

I wouldn't be surprised if it was native 4k on the 1X. There are already a few games that are native 4k on the 1X that are only 1440p on the Pro. Titanfall 2 and Outlast 2 for example.

Oh man, I have a pretty high end PC and a PS4 + Pro and have two 1440p monitors for my PC but only a 1080p TV for console gaming. I got MGS5 on PS4 as I have all the games on PlayStation and wanted to keep them on one brand of system, I wish the PS4 Pro did 1440p out rather than just 1080 and "4K". I can't even set my Pro to 4K and have it "down sample" which it does anyway to 1440p

It's not as simple as that with exchange rates. You have to take into consideration what other things cost comparatively and what the earnings are. The price has dropped nearly £100 in the UK since Pro released, $399 was the release price a year ago yet it is still $399 now?

If you're talking about resolution (the only thing being improved here), resolution improvements on xbox one x seem to be around 4x (1080 to 4k). Ah, my mistake. You're right, HDMI1.4 will go to 1440p60, you're right! It just slows to 30hz at 4K.

Agree 100%. I would love to see a 1440p option on consoles. The sweet spot for gaming in terms of graphics and performance in most games.

I care more for res than textures if the textures are already decent quality. Having extra detail etc at 1080p and playing on a 4k screen gets blurred and those higher res textures won't look good being stretched 4x no matter how you look at it. Atleast the game will look clean and not blurred. Framerate is boosted so I'm happy about that too
You can't have "amazing details and textures" at a low resolution. The detail gets lost using a resolution that was standard 10 years ago.

Are there bug reports on the res upgrade? I'm on a 55" 4K and I don't see a difference. I'm not shitting on it, because I do notice a big improvement on games that go from 1080p to 1440p, but this one looks exactly the same tbh :(

So if you have the super sampling disabled the boost mode will work right? I'm just wondering because it's pro patched (obviously) and it doesn't internally super sample so the boost mode should work with the super sampling disabled on the system level right?

Nice to have support for the system finally after so long. Going to be real here though I beat this on PC already which is the superior version especially in 4k . I do have it on PS4 as well and works great too although Konami waited far too long to upgrade this game. 1440p support for any game on the pro is welcome though.

Sony doesn't make this, ask Konami, and also Konami never said "4k dynamic output". If you make a game on PS4 platform with only 720p, and it sells crazy, Sony will not banned your game just because you don't patch 4k.

Still on PC the GTX 1070 is the 1440p card to go... ( Even though the RX 480, the 580 and the GTX 1060 can do most games at that or higher on medium to high settings....
My point is that at 1440p is not a bad trade... Plus in a 1080p TV you don't get nothing but super sample, but on a 4k TV ( which is the next resolution on TVs) is out putting the image at 1440p upscaled by the TV to 4k and referred to it as "Dynamic" ridiculous I know, but not bad at all... Games still look pretty good! I would've rather FPS over Res.

Rapid packed math was just released. Mark cerny claimed at release of ps4 pro that RPM will also affect ps4 pro when released. It was released like a month ago. And this takes a 64 bit operation and makes it 2 32 bit operations at the same time or something along those lines. Which essiently will give ps4 pro 8.4 teraflops mark cerny claims.

The pc version ia best. Gtx 970 can run it 1440p with highest setting which looks better than pa4 pro which uses same setting as ps4 and xbox one but just higher resolution

Development was over 5 years. oh and it came out sept. 1st, but ground zeroes was a year-and-a-half earlier so the tech and game engine is older.

I had a 1440p monitor that I was using for my Pro - ironically incapable of displaying games at 1440p. You gotta get a 4K monitor / TV for that. I put it down to 1440p being skipped over on TVs (never seen one myself), despite being fairly prominent amongst monitors. I think I’m probably in the minority of console owners who uses a monitor for my PS4

Many awesome things have been said about the X1X and it's indeed an impressive machine but it surprises me that no one is talking about the risk of overheating. This console has a new cooling system and that's great, but will it be enough to keep the system running ok when playing games at native 4K? It's a console after all, not a PC. I guess we will find out very soon.

The Xbox 360 red ring of death from overheating was due to its design at the time and the hardware inside of it was bulky and so tightly together the airflow wasn't getting thru in a tight space. There wasn't overheating problems with og Xbox or og Xbox one or XB1S so I'm sure the XB1X will be fine with all the vents on the back and sides
I think it's a great update for an old game. Some newer games don't even go above 1080p on the Pro.

The point is that the ps4 outputs 4k, not 1440p so the display does no scaling.
I was neck deep in Destiny when this game originally released, if Konami puts out a proper XB1X patch I'd be all about it on November 7th.

so it's basically a 1440p machine. checkerboard upscaled if they really wanted to. That's such a small difference.
The other games that run at 1440p also raise the resolution of texture, better shadows, longer draw distance, etc. Lots of games run at native 4k. It is up to the developer if they want to aim at higher resolution or other effects.

Don’t blame you, the added costs of buying a 4K HDR OLED to justify the full potential and the higher costs of UHD discs. The main hidden cost in buying a much larger hard drive, than the insufficient 1tb standard drive, needed for those huge 4K game files!

I wouldn't be surprised if it was native 4k on the 1X. There are already a few games that are native 4k on the 1X that are only 1440p on the Pro. Titanfall 2 and Outlast 2 for example.

Oh man, I have a pretty high end PC and a PS4 + Pro and have two 1440p monitors for my PC but only a 1080p TV for console gaming. I got MGS5 on PS4 as I have all the games on PlayStation and wanted to keep them on one brand of system, I wish the PS4 Pro did 1440p out rather than just 1080 and "4K". I can't even set my Pro to 4K and have it "down sample" which it does anyway to 1440p

Where are you getting 70% improvement from? Just curious. Haven't heard that stat from anywhere. If you're talking about resolution (the only thing being improved here), resolution improvements on xbox one x seem to be around 4x (1080 to 4k). You're not suggesting that the extra $100 makes those games 3830% better, I assume haha. (and I'm sure that's not the metric you're using anyway, so I'm just wondering what it is)
