Hey Ben, you're killer man. Thank you for this, seriously. This solo is one of the main reasons I picked up a guitar when I was a wee lad. You're a great teacher... But you knew that. Any way you could do another Weekend Wankshop for the master of puppets fast solo? That'd be most excellent, sir. Thank you again!!
Except he doesn’t teach you how to count the shredding blues pentatonic parts in a rhythmic context, making it near impossible to play up to speed to a metronome. Good job uncle Ben /s
On the talk about that bend at around 10:30 I believe when Dime played it live, he just bent up to it without using the bar. Personally since i don't have a Floyd on my guitar and bending it up 2 steps brings me out of tune, I do the bend at the 14th fret. While I already knew the walk solo (second solo I learned) I see that I missed some key things. I was very excited to see you cover this solo as I know you are one of the most analytical and precise guitar experts on UA-cam. Awesome video!
Dude I love this, please do one on the I'm broken solo. That fast part has tripped me up for years! Love the wankshop vids, my playing has improved since discovering your channel. Thanks for doing what u do.
Good lawd this is such a badass solo. Thanks a thousand times for this one. If you are looking for suggestions still. Howbout Zakk's solo from Fire in the Sky.
This is sacred ground, metal-soloing brilliance beyond comprehension. I dare not tred on this. But since Unca Ben showed me how it's played I'm walking all over it. Well I'll try anyway 😁
I've said it before and I'll say it again - Uncle Ben is a wizard. You're definitely Dad material. Stepdads are still learning do re mi and struggling. How about some Primus?
Thanks, Ben! I've always wanted to cover that solo. But the last time I tried to transcribe it (about 15 years ago or so), I wasn't simply good enough to recognize everything what's going on. I was close, but not as accurate as you. I'll give it a try. Definitely a good workout for my relatively weak (downward) vibrato!
Loved Pantera & Dime , Yet another Video That My Step Dad Efed up And You ( Uncle Ben ) Showed he was enlightened , The Main Man ! Thanks Ben , Great Video, Later man ....
Wouldn't lay that Walk solo on us, without an accompanying lesson. Yep, that's Uncle "Bud" Ben Eller- cause he always fills your mom up, and never lets you down ; ) Thanks Uncle Ben!
I came hunting for a tutorial and I find you playing it on modded version of my 520QS! I put EMGs in mine back when they were the only pickups to get, and it's my next project after I finish my Tele - you can't really see the quilted top through the original finish so I'm going for a raw oil finish. Thanks for the lesson, between you and Chris Zoupa it should be easy to nail it!
No way punk! You've gone and done it this time Uncle Ben. Trademark "isms" haha dude. Thanks for this one, perfect speed for me to get down all the tricks on this bad boy.
Loved the tutorial. Man, you have the best tutorials out there.. Learned the solo at top speed! How about doing a tutorial on some of Slash's new stuff from "living the dream" album? Im thinking the solo from "driving rain" 😎 greetings from Norway!
Just Reminiscing through the classic Uncle Ben lessons and licks! Dime shook the ropes like The Ultimate Warrior! You really are my favorite “UA-cam” guitar player/teacher/muse! Troy Grady is second! Lol 😜
That "fake reverse delay" thing at around 14:10... it's a technique Dime got from KISS' Ace Frehley (Dime was a MAJOR KISS FREAK), and the best example of Ace doing that same lick was on the song "I'm In Need of Love" from Ace's 1978 KISS Solo album. To be honest, there are quite a few mini-licks that Dime copped from Ace (especially that wicked vibrato), just sped way up.
Love your lessons Uncle Ben! I noticed that there’s a lot of debate on how to properly play the main riff in Dyers Eve. Is James alternating between the 2nd and 3rd frets of the A string or is he only picking the 2nd fret? It would make for a good, quick lesson!
The exact offset of the tuning is actually not a 1/4 step lower, it's 60 cents lower (according to Dimebag's guitar technician) which is the equivalent of 425 Hz.
@@jangofett913 That info is can be found in the guitar book/DVD called "Dimebag Darrell - Riffer Madness" (released through Guitar World) written by Dimebag and Nick Bowcott, where they have a section called "Loony Tunings" in which Dime's guitar tech Grady Champion explains that they tuned that way (although in a more detailed and almost confusing way).
Hey Ben! You should try to knock out the solo to _Floods_ and/or that one difficult fast riff from _This Love_ ! There's so many great Dime solos to hit up, _Heartworn Highway_ by Rebel Meets Rebel is probably one of his best solos.
Hey Uncle Ben :) Dunno if it crossed your mind while working out the Walk solo that it might be bit of a nod to Tony Iommi's Wicked World (I'm thinking the long lead off Live At Last)? Those half-note trills loosely hewn around a pentatonic major over minor feel giving it that jazz vibe sounds so similar, and I find it hard to believe Dime listened to lots of jazz!
Well, started following you arround 16-20 months ago, and today i thought; "Well, i have a ocilloscope I can use as a tuner! So I might as well try to find the dimebag sweet spot!" I found it, intonated my guitar, and tuned it to d-standard in 428,7Hz for that Amazing dime tone. Thought; "uncle Ben knows the way!" Lets play along! And now, since I assume, that you are in 440hz d-standard, whenever I play along, my guitar sounds so insanely out of tune 🤣
without knowing anything about your playing history, that's literally impossible to answer! Everybody operates at different speeds, just have fun and don't watch the clock too much.
Thank you all for learning this classic Pantera solo with me! Whatcha want to learn next?!
Something more from a7x!
Okay, so I commented before I saw your master of puppets Wankshop, I'm going to check that out now!
Alice in Hell.....please
Nuno's solo in "War Heads"

The eighties were a really terrible Pant-era yoyo
Seriously, there are no better lessons than Uncle Bens'! Equally in-depth, accurate, right feeling and no time wasted!
Except he doesn’t teach you how to count the shredding blues pentatonic parts in a rhythmic context, making it near impossible to play up to speed to a metronome. Good job uncle Ben /s
Awesome lesson, thanks uncle Ben... how bout the lead from Pantera "Floods"...
This puts the other tutorial I was looking at to absolute shame. Ben, you are insanely good at teaching guitar shit. I mean, MASSIVE PROPS MAN!
Ikr
Such a hero in so many ways. RIP Dime.
Definitely tell that you are a huge fan of that solo. Can hear the "how cool is that" in your voice. Solo is crazy awesome
STEP DIME speed, why did i find that so funny, i'm crying
Lucky Shanks he just throws these absolute gems in there with no fuss at all and it's hilarious 😂
Yeah that one cracked me up too haha

Hey man, i dont have a floyd too. How do you manage to do the last bend in the 22th fret?
Dime had such control with his hands. He pulled off some slippery bluesy slides in this solo. This song will test your fingertips for sure.
Ben you are the best, I am so glad I found your channel. Your instructions are always crystal clear and spot on.
OUTSTANDING lesson. This is awesome stuff Uncle Ben !!
You should do a tutorial on the walk solo
Andrew Teller cool, got it!

That tap slide into the massive bend is one of the sickest licks I've ever heard
Loved the tutorial. Man, you have the best tutorials out there.. Learned the solo at top speed! How about doing a tutorial on some of Slash's new stuff from "living the dream" album? Im thinking the solo from "driving rain" 😎 greetings from Norway!
Cliffs of Dover please.

About time I learnt this..after decades. Thankyou 🙏🇦🇺🤘
A buddy of mine described this solo as "whistlin' Dixie with metal guitar", and I fucking love it haha

David Scott King oh wow!!!! Didn’t know that, thanks for the info. I will check that song out for sure, Ace was a badass!
Awesome lesson man!
Mouth for war! Please! Awesome vid as always!

“Step-Dime Speed” holy shit I laughed at that waaaaaay too hard.

where did you find that out?

Yes. ;-)
I was hoping that you were going to say "Let's hear that again at 5 nug speed" haha
@Ben Eller, still would love it if you would give a wankspop tutorial on the solo from Opeth's "Forest of October".
SIIIIICK!!!!! flawless!!!
The part Dime plays on pst 88. Right before the solo. Is it picked or just hammer on pulloffs? 🤔🧐
Your Favorite Blues Lick , From The Early 70’s . Your Choice of Band , & Guitarist
Awesome Uncle Ben. Next time "Cowboys From Hell"
Hey Ben, do you like Arch Enemy? Would love to see you play a few of Chris Amot’s solos..
Fuck. Literally just got done watching a different video on Walks solo yesterday. God damn it
Hey Uncle Ben :) Dunno if it crossed your mind while working out the Walk solo that it might be bit of a nod to Tony Iommi's Wicked World (I'm thinking the long lead off Live At Last)? Well, started following you arround 16-20 months ago, and today i thought; "Well, i have a ocilloscope I can use as a tuner! So I might as well try to find the dimebag sweet spot!"

Hi Ben, could you make a lesson of the song Overture by Yngwie J. Malmsteen? At least the main lick sweep picked, thanx in advance!
Bye!
Can you make a video on how to play vibrato with your ring finger like you do. That’s shits crazy.
“Walk on, homeboy.” - Phil “Big Philly Style” Anselmo
Bobby Steurer I always thought it was “Walk on home, boy”
