That's what happens when the people doing the budget syphon off money to people they know, like $5 million for the catering budget etc, then the catering company syphon's £2.5 million into a swiss bank account for the person who budgeted the catering who then syphon's £1.5 million back to the producer who green lit the total budget. Hollywood is very much a money laundering scheme.
Making Dune was Villeneuve dream for like 30 years, I remember in the 90s he was saying it was his dream project. it's not something that was improvised. Happy he got it right.
@@dills3671 I don't know, I would need to find old French interviews. I'm from Quebec and he became famous in 1991 winning a short movie competition. He was already showing his genius at that time. His short movies were really good.
Totally disagree with the point of Feyd-Rautha being "neutered". First off, he comes across as a bit of a spoiled brat for the first half of the book, but more importantly, he used poison during the gladiator scene in the novel. He tried to use poison against the Baron to assassinate him. He used poison when he tried to fight Paul. To make it sound like he's this ultimate beast in the book and a fake warrior in the movie is way off. I found him to be way more imposing in the movie. Second, and more importantly, that wasn't a "regular dude" he was fighting. If you paid attention, you'd know that was Lieutenant Lanville and also the fight choreographer for the movie. He was mentioned by Idaho in the first movie and you see him doing some training. He is a highly skilled Atreides fighter. Baron leaving him undrugged was the perfect way to display just how brutal Feyd was.
@@vaughndelano I think people look at Feyd through rose colored glasses from the novel. He is very much like Paul but also the anti-Paul. He’s young, inexperienced, hungry to learn. But at the same time, he’s impatient and temperamental unlike Paul and also full of ego. The point of the gladiator scene is to show that this young power hungry kid grew up to be formidable, but still dependent on his crutches. I also loved the added scenes in the movie. I don’t want to spoil anything but his interaction with Rabban made me go holy shit he’s the real beast!
The God Emperor was good also but I loved Paul of Dune even though the original author didn't write it. Takes place a year after Paul takes power unless Messiah which is 5 years I believe.
Yep, and while Dune came first, it has elements of Andor (political themes, character development, more mature writing), with the mainline saga (for the reasons you mentioned), and The Book of Boba Fett (sand dunes, protagonist joining sand people who help induce visions and fight against enemies wanting to control the spice).
Yeah but Star Wars totally lacked the "heavy stuff" like oracular powers that bring jihad terror to untold millions. Powers that were partly bestowed by eugenics and manipulation of bloodlines that stretch in time, and also by a substance that is so powerful it allows interstellar travel without resorting to banned artificial intelligence and other trippy stuff. Oh and the inversion of the savior hero journey trope on its head (spoiler: Paul's not Luke Skywalker in the original trilogy, not by a mile). The inspiration is pretty surface level if you ask me. But I'm more of a Dune fan than Star Wars/Star Trek fan....
More than you probably realise. There is a documentary called ‘Jodorowsky’s Dune’, where a crazy genius filmmaker tried to make it in the 70’s. The group involved went on create the Alien franchise and influence pretty much EVERYTHING that followed. It’s unbelievable 👍
The "third guy" Feyd fights in the arena was one of Duke Leto's generals and blade masters - or whatever their rank is, he is actually in the first movie in a couple of scenes like the war council etc. thats why Feyd was pissed at the Baron and thought he wanted to kill him.
Baron did definitly want to kill him cause he was psychotic and desires to kill the Baron! and his position. Baron is very clever in either scenario he would come out on top and knows exactly how to play Fayd. If Paul was not op as fuk with precinct ability knowing where, when to strike and the narrow path to victor for sure the Baron would have achieved his objectives. In some ways that outcome would have been better for all as it would have saved billions of lives.
@@Yukon.72 Nah that guy is literally is one of the Atreides top commanders. And it's mentioned by the Baron's mentat in the first movie that the Atreides commandos are arguably the best trained soldiers in the universe, rivaling the sardaukar. In a fair fight (if he had a shield and armor/wasn't being held prisoner for months) that guy probably would've killed Feyd. Duncan Idaho and Gurney are also arguably the two best warriors in the universe, both could beat Paul. And of course he was trained by those men.
He thought Baron wanted to kill him because he noticed the third guy (the Atreides trainer) wasn’t drugged out of his wits like the other two, not because he knew who he was specifically.
@@UporaFilms I don't think 99.9% of the people knew what Dune was before this movie series. I was and honestly I found part one decent to good, and I found part 2 sucked. Too many changes that made no sense at all. Chani completely rewritten from base up. Jamis had no children or wife....depending on how far they take this sad to leave them out. CHOAM basically doesn't exist. Haven't even seen a guild navigator, which is why the spice is important to begin with. Bene Gesserit are very very weak in this series, they are almost jedi in the books. Stilgar is an idiot I don't know why. Paul is a weak man who can't make his own decisions. Aliyah not even born. Paul is now the abomination and not the Kwisatz haderach....As I go in I recall the Lady Jessica saying "we, we, we, we" when even referring to her past lives. Bene Gesserit train their entire lives for this not to be a thing. As we all learn with Aliyah. IDK the final icing for me was when they randomly run on the ships of the great houses and take off. Still no meeting with CHOAM. Also people were very scared of Paul beating the emperor and baron at once. Not everyone was in rebellion. Those that did were rather swiftly defeated.
@@jeremymarsh1377 point to where my comment said anything other than it was grand in scale. 👍 Scale in this context = size/scope. Leviathan is synonymous with huge. Huge in size. Huge in scope. In fact, I don't think a single comment said anything other than commenting on the huge parts of the film...
Feyd Reutha definitly didn't feel neutered. It is well established in both book and first film that Atreides soldiers are actually insane. They are only really threatened in 1:1 combat by Sardaukar, who are the most feared fighters in the universe (until the Holy War). Feyd being able to 1v1 one of them not on drugs sets his physical strength up well. And then he undergoes and succeeds the gom jabbar test, showing his mental fortitude to be on par with Pauls aswell.
I would have loved to see Feyd during the Gom-Jabbar test, to see him how he reacts and endures the pain like is he shocked by it or he actually revels in it like a true madman but sadly it was done off screen. A shame, I found Feyd WAY MORE compelling and scary than in the books.
Feyd is easily one of my favorite dune characters. A psycho but still having some kind of code along with being a great fighter. Even in his dying moments he told Paul that he fought well
@@BloodyMunchkin Im going off the movie. It doesn't make sense how he respects paul for winning while also getting mad that his uncle did not drug a fighter while he had armor.
The same was said about The Lord of the Rings trilogy, it can't be adapted, and here we are, Dune is walking the path. Saturday can't come soon enough, I hope I love it.
It’s walking a path… definitely not the same path as lord of the rings… but it’s walking a path… into a marsh… some people don’t like to be wet and dodging alligators
As someone who read the books I really like that the Fremen aren’t a monolith when it comes to the prophecy. Arrakis is an entire planet and we can’t even all agree as a country so it makes sense to me.
@@CreedM8 its so funny how you neo natzis hate everything that isnt white and straight, and somehow you missed the entire plot of dune being one of the most ''woke'' works of fiction, its impressive
@@dogsbreakfast4952 if you find the movie board that’s OK, not everyone likes the same movie but personally, I love slow paced movies. I think they’re great and this was a masterpiece to me.
@dogsbreakfast4952 just got back from seeing it. Dune 1 bored me when I first saw it (I appreciate it more now, but it is still too slow for me), but this movie was NOT boring. Was it long? Yes. Did I have to hold me pee for way longer than I wanted? You bet. But it was worth it. There are some nitpicks I had, but overall it was epic.
And I’m gonna be honest, that’s probably where it should stop. I am not a big fan of the later books but they become increasingly more “impossible” to film. Make the films Paul’s story and just end it. No need to milk it more.
Damn why’d you have to mention it. Now I’ll forever be angry that he wasn’t the emperor lol he would’ve been perfect. Shame he doesn’t get too many roles anyways he was amazing as Tywin
I think the idea was to have someone that was not imposing to show how they weren't the one calling the shots. That being said, casting Walken was still too distracting for me.
My favorite part was when the Emperor told Paul Atreides, “Walk without rhythm, and it won’t attract the worm. If you walk without rhythm, you never learn” and then danced throughout the palace.
Does no one remember Christopher Walken in the Fat Boy Slim, music video; Weapon of Choice? - "If you walk without rhythm, you won't attract the worm." I feel like this is an inside joke, I'm the only one who gets.
I really like Christopher Walken’s Emperor. It reminds me of his work during the time he won an Oscar for “The Deer Hunter”. Before he became better known for his “Walken-isms”…
Visually STUNNING, engaging, massively grand, beautifully sounded, well-acted throughout (even when some actors had low screentimes), VERY well paced, campy at times, and just INSANE. Dune Part 2 is not only better than Part 1, it's one of the best sci-fi films I've seen in the past 10 years. I'm glad that this is just a part 2 of 3.
Alex ain’t wrong , this movie was definitely a 10/10 and I don’t say that lightly because I haven’t been to the theaters in months but this movie was visually pleasing , acting was amazing, score was phenomenal and that final battle literally gave me goosebumps by how good it was when the fremen are riding on sandworms into battle. Most of all like Alex said , just the fact alone this movie was adapted to the big screen in such a respectable way was a feat in itself and is very ambitious not only that it managed to be better than the first movie imo. Deni also stated he didn’t just want this to be a movie but an experience, and an experience it was, touching ideas about philosophy, religion, destiny ect The immersion of the movie is one I haven’t experienced in a long time and it definitely makes you wanting more the way ends, I can’t wait for dune: messiah and where it’ll go from there, movie was truly a 10.
They should of got Kyle MacLachlan (Paul Atreides in 1984) as the Emperor being over the top that would of been cool AF, or Patrick Stewart also since both were in the original
Christopher Walken was distracting in the first watch-through, but after a couple more times it works so well. The emperor wasn't what I was expecting at all after watching Part 1, but that's probably intentional. He was made out to be dangerous and powerful and when you see him in Part 2, he's a frail, soft-spoken old man. So friggin good.
The only and minor gripe I have is that the final act (beginning with the planning for the attack) felt somewhat confusing, as in it was difficult to keep up with the action after the slower pace of the preceding movie. It almost feels like they had to cut down some explanatory/context scenes to keep the runtime (more) limited.
I didn't mind how they changed Cheney's character. I agree that her new position being antagonistic to the religious aspects of Paul's ascension was a nice contrast to the rest of the story, but I didn't like how Zendaya played the character like she was a 22 year old college student from California and not a fremen from Dune. Evenrytime she contested the prophecy she sounded like someone from today criticizing the issue and it took me out of the story.
Herbert himself hated how people loved Paul as the moral of the story is to not believe in prophets etc. Hence Dune Messiah. So if that type of criticism takes you out of it you don't understand what Herbert's point was. Again, hence why Messiah was written.
That's precisely the point my man. Everybody was seeing Paul as a mythical larger-than-life figure, and throughout all that Chani always saw the man, not just because she was "bitchy" (and I mean that in a derisive tone from the way people are referring to her), but rather because of all Fremen she was the one who truly knew him as a person and saw beyond the "prophecies" both before AND afterwards when religious zeal really took over everybody. Chani represents, in this movie, the sort of skepticism that Herbert wished to convey as ideal, because for all the ease with which people get swept up in the grandeur of others to end up following them blindly, lots of tragedy follows. Must be added, at the end, the straw that broke the camel's back wasn't the religious thing itself, but rather also a very personal issue of Paul playing politics to elevate himself by marrying Irulan, while leaving her behind in the process. It's not that his actions weren't logical there, but rather that as logical as they were, they were still hurtful. Also, dare I say, the portrayal of the female characters in Dune hasn't aged the most gracefully. In this film they gave them much more agency, even while revolving around Paul and the consequences of his actions, WITHOUT fundamentally changing their role in the story.
@maxi1ification ........There are literal space Nuns who manipulate the politics of everyone in the universe who have superpowers. Get out of here with that "current age" clap trap.
As the movie went on I became more and more terrified of Paul to the point that there was a voice in the back of my head hoping he freed the fremen but died. I was stunned at the end of the movie. I should’ve been crying at Paul’s betrayal of Chani but his character had me legitimately terrified
The movie amped up the scary side of Paul a little bit from the original book, which was a good change. Frank Herbert himself was annoyed when people thought his book had a happy ending.
At the end of the first book, it's made more clear that his marriage to the Emperor's daughter is part of a grander plan for power and is only a thing on paper. She will not be loved, or paid attention to, and Paul will only love and be with Chani even though they're not married. Not unlike Leto and Jessica. Really kind of a sad fate for princess Irulan.
In the book, polygamy is a part of fremen culture. After Paul kills the warrior in the duel, he takes all of his property including his wife. So the emperor's daughter would be Paul's third wife.
@@PeacefulRallyCar-pw3cs Well in the book he inherited the household of the Jamis, which means also his wife but he didn't want her so he made her simply into his servant tho. He married the Chani and she was his only wife except for the princess at the end. And yeah he actually planned this upfront with Chani. A bit of a pity they cut these parts off cause it showed a bit of how fremen culture works and all that but i guess it was a bit controversial today. And also the second movie felt a but like it should have been longer like some parts were way too simplified and speed ran so yeah i guess there wasn't enough room for side lore like this.
Indeed. Misses out on so much not having that scene. Or not casting a twink as the saviour of Dune, and a plain jane as the desert rose. The spacing guild missing too. The miniseries fit more story in less time.

My dad and me used to always watch the 1984 movie by yearly. We watched dune part 1 and yesterday saw part 2 and its really nice to still be able to relive dune with my dad he loves it so much usually we dont go to cinema but Dune is just something special
this movie was so mid. too much silly writing that was brushed over with cinematography . also the most ‘bad’ people in the series are literal pushovers. build up for no reason.
11:00 Book chani is not a character that is thanking paul for being white saviour. Neither is the book a white saviour story. The changes they made to Chani & Fremen made the story worse, not better
@@musicaleuphoria8699 absolutely not, suicide squad wasn’t a shit game, but it wasn’t a great game either and Dune, in my opinion is on the same level of lord of the rings
Alex is right that the movie rushes, so what I see as the great triumph here is that they crammed a 12-episode season worth of book into less than six hours and made it work.
Dune Part 2 was magnificent. But the whole time I was thinking "What if Villeneuve made a 40K movie". They did such a great job with the scale of everything.
Lack of mentat scenes. Where was Thufir Hawat? And the change of Aliah is weird, will she still be Aliah if the Knife? 8.5/10 for me. The same with the first and the lack of Yue bacground and the banquet scene. Expecting Messiah to be the masterpiece of the trilogy.
Yeah that was one weird thing about the gladiator fight. If i remember correctly in the books the dudes were supposed to be dumb but super aggressive after being drugged so the gladiator fight still kinda makes sense. The drug was also supposed to make their skin red and they painted the non drugged dude red and all. And there is also this whole thing where one of the daggers Feyd is using is venomous and he like swapped them or something and it sets up the ending where the final fight is supposed to have that plot twist with poisonous dagger as well. Like idk why they cut this all out, it wouldn't take much more time and would make things more interesting.
100%. Paul walking off into the desert at the end of Messiah would be a very great ending to the films. We don’t need CoD, we definitely do NOT need anything adapted from God Emperor to Chapterhouse.
What’s crazy is I wish the movie was longer cause it’s soo good I wish we had more scenes to explore in depth even more. My only real gripe about the movie is Walken. He feels so out of place and adds nothing really and hard to see him as the emperor and not just Christoper
These movies were nice, but IMO I still feel the old clunky one was more interesting and epic. Paul here didn't even gain\use the voice powers much and almost got killed in the last 1v1 fight.. I guess book fans will appreciate a more faithful adaptation, though.
I liked Part Two very much as a whole, but ngl, the movie rushes through a lot of things. You never really get the time to dwell in moments and it's as If the movie is desperately trying to check the necessary plot points in time.
It's almost a joke for them at this point. Like just learn the dude's name. He's one of the best directors right now and they constantly mock his name like it's in Latin or something.
Everyone has the right to their opinion. I do not share the view that Christopher Walken falls short in “Dune 2” because he is recognizable and “just being Christopher Walken”. Every major recognizable actor in this film such as Josh Brolin or Zendaya would just be themselves then, as they too are “just” playing parts. As for perhaps “not looking the part”, Walken in my opinion does not have to look, say, as physically imposing. He can be the more calculating type of ruler as he is here, and channel the striking face of Walken’s character from “The Dogs of War”, a film that came out not long after Walken won his Oscar for “The Deer Hunter”-before he became better known for his “Walken-isms” thathave fueled so many impressions. I am grateful that Walken got the opportunity to be part of and grace this nearly perfect sci-fi spectacle of our current times…
Double feature at Imax was great, first part was much better on imax screen, liked it much more. When i walked out the cinema at the end after 6 hours it was like after I saw terminator 2 or Jurassic park in the 90's, I was mindblown. Good shouting out Quinns Ideas, I watch almost every video he makes, sci-fi is fun to think about 😁
I thought Dune 1 was better overall. Dune 2 had a lot of great scenes but it dwelt to much on them attacking spice production and not enough on other aspects. It definitely made me feel like I was on Arrakis watching this.
I watched the movie and thought some imperialist's fever dream. Entitled kid got the universe because he was born rich and prophecy gives him everything. Everyone else in the galaxy exists to hand him everything. At first he doesnt want it, but then he does. Oh my. I wish everyone could be born special like that. Why is he the best fighter? He just is....
the ending is offensive to the lore of the story. When you think you're clever and change the story but you're a crap writer. If you want to watch decent Dune then watch the miniseries from 2000. Has Alec Newman as Paul Altreides and James McVoy as Children of Dune
I wasn't as crazy about this one. Some weird editing. About a half-dozen times I thought I'd somehow skipped ahead and missed parts, only to realize they just didn't include scenes.
It’s no where close to original 6 movies or LOTR. A skinny drip as the chosen one, could blow him over with a strong wind. He might take Harry Potter lol but nothing close to an anakin, Aragon or even a Neo.
I hate when they review a movie or show that has a book or comic because they go off on a tangent about book spoilers and not movie spoilers. Its a movie review not a movie review/book spoiler review. If your going to do book spoilers do them in a separate video so we can decide to be Spoiled 😑
One of THE best movies of the year, for sure. I was blown away watching this one and couldn’t wait to see what the next scene held. Haven’t had a movie grip me like that since the first one. This director knows his stuff
I give Dune 1984 an 8/10 because of the bad visual effects and steampunk-medieval look. I give Dune part 1-2 a 7,5 because of the nonsense Chani warrior, no mystical atmosphere, fast fights, slow pase scenes.
I just got back from seeing it too... Oh My God This movie is spectacular! Go see it in the BIGGEST screen possible ASAP Movie of the year, probably the decade. Perfect.
This got me shades of the Lawrence of Arabia (one of FHerbert's inspiration for Paul) movie. I feel like one of those "classic" blockbusters of a bygone age.
I am a HUGE Dune fan and this movie was good and beautifuly made with great scenes and music score. However, plot wise, this movie is quite empty. No one knows what Spice is and why is it so important. Spacing Guild, one of the most important power players are completely missing and nothing is explained about them. The whole Kvizatz Haderach thing is vage and no one knows what the hell it's about. The Prescient vision, genetic memory are not explained enough for non book readers to understand. The Mentats are a throwaway, Thufir Hawatt is not even un this movie. Chani and her feminist group of Power Puff girls rudiculing Stilgar, a Naib of Sietch Tabr, calling him somehow stupid and a radical would never happen in Fremen society. Emperor and Princess Irulan are throwaways and Emperors reason for killing the Atreides is beyond stupid. The whole Dune universe seems small, with couple of planets, and nothing is explained or even mentioned about the Butlerian Jihad, the ban on technology, the Rise of the great schools like the Guild or the Bene Gesserit. The life cycle of the worms and its relation to the Spice is completely thrown out of the movie and not even mentioned. Alia of the Knife is not even born in this movie and that suggests that it's been less than 9 months since the downfall of House Atreides and Pauls venture in the desert and not 4-5 years like in the book. Paul and Chani never had a son etc The list goes on. I an sure the director could've given us nore exposition instead of wide shots of sand dunes with epic music.
You masterfully explained what has been on the tip of my tongue since seeing the movie. Looked great, sounded great, was in awe of a lot of it, but the main thing I was thinking about when it was over was the complete lack of a Spacing Guild. Mentats were never explained in the first, I was expecting some explanation in this one. None. My girlfriend hasn't read the book and she didn't enjoy it. I could see how she wouldn't, there's way too much missing for a completely new person to grasp this thing. The Emperor was this pathetic old man... The Paul vs Fayd scene was so much better in the 1984 version. And spice is literally just a Mcguffin... No real exploration of how it's important and why. I was underwhelmed. It was too long as well. Just a lot missing and too much focus on stuff that wasn't integral to the worldbuilding.
I agree with you entirely, but the majority of non book readers will call us snobs for having this take. Overall the film was enjoyable at times, but it really left a lot to be desired. The whole movie almost felt like a montage of the book rather than a direct adaptation.
This is what books are for, I feel like you're comparing the strengths of books against the weaknesses of movies. 50% of the film would have been explaining stuff, and audiences don't want to be talked at for hours on end. Denis understands you need to show a story, not explain a story.
@@SwisskiesI disagree, to me the balance was clearly off. There were far too many scenes where the emphasis is on the mood, the surface level stuff. And so many scenes where time was wasted on some extra beauty shots, mood shots, cheesy dialogue. All of that can be important, but in this film it absolutely came at a cost, because at the same time it felt like the story itself was rushed, many things just jumped into the next thing and into action where far more depth and explanation was needed, and a lot things (such as the priestessess and whatnot, whom I'm assuming are basically behind all of what is happening really, or maybe not since we'd rather keep them mysterious than involve them in the film in a meaningful way) were left unexplored almost entirely, leaving the bits we did get from those things feel rather arbitrary, and just a waste, rather than something more meaningful. All of this extends the run time, without adding enough meaning and impact. The wrong things have too much the focus here. The film feels rushed, yet incredibly slow. I'd also say there was a fair bit of explaining, rather than showing, which is opposite of what you are saying. So much so, in my opinion, that it caused some of the above mentioned issues. Many times, the explaining/exposition was done on things where it didn't need to be, and yet the showing wasn't done with things that needed much more to be shown. And, some explaining needed to be done with things that didn't get explained at all. Really, rather messy pacing and storytelling. I clearly haven't read the books, so this is not a book reader's opinion. Yet, this film feels incredibly overrated to me. It felt thoroughly shallow. There were even times where it felt ridiculous. Some of the worship scenes and moments felt almost like Life of Brian rather than a serious film (this is a slight exaggeration, for the sake of painting a picture). The worms are just plot devices now, used whenever. Is spice still an important factor here? The final battle started out of nowhere, yet ended even faster. Why should I care about any of it anyway, I don't care about anyone participating in it. None of the characters are appealing (perhaps so on purpose, but then there is zero emotional connection to anything). Acting is just mediocre at best, cheesy at worst. I was surprised how much I felt like I was watching something that really was meant to be a bit cheesy and quirky and over the top, only forced into a frame of a super serious over the top dramatic cinematic audio visual spectacle.
Well in the book Feyd was actually never a true threat to Paul. It was all about just his will to carry on and do wat he must. Besides that Feyd was more of a threat just because he'll cheat in a heart beat.
Clearly can tell the dude who says they neutered “feyd-rautha “ hasn’t read the book. In the book Feyd, was a nothing. There wasn’t even a question. Austin Butler did an amazing job and elevated the character as a threat.
This movie was average, climactic scenes were anti climatic, pacing was bad. 90% of the movie is focused on character development and yet you could care less for any of the characters. Visuals were amazing ill give them that, but thats about all.
The director made it so you're supposed to agree with the black woman. It's just Hollywood these days. Paul is dangerous and not able to keep his horde under control so she's technically right. In the book the girlfriend is a believer.
I just realized Dune is basicly Narcos Mexico in space. Figuratively speaking. Love the shout out to Quinnns Ideas, FANTASTIC channel. It'd be cool to see a joint review/comparison/what is hopefully to come with him! Great review.
No it’s more about how our government agencies place plants in other cultures and countries to destabilize it in order to control production of that said area. How war is planned and executed In order to control people
You know what nailed in the coffin for how disappointing this movie was? When the kid with no experience gets all the harkkonnen ships to just surround the seech they all knew about, shoot a million rockets at it, and the baron says 'genius'. How in the utter FECK is that anything other than what they should have been doing in the first place? Most disappointing film i can remember. Coming from someone who adored the first film.
If I am not mistaken, that type of weaponry is not common in the Dune universe. Which plays a lot better in the book. I don't think the movie explains it well obviously with you as an example. It was also repurposed a bit from book to movie, I believe it's artillery weaponry that the Harkonnens use and it's during the initial surprise attack on the Atreides. Like with the Atomics, there are a lot of "old world" taboos.
The movie is a visual treat. But it is not a blood pumping ride, there are showcases of epic moments throughout the movie, but that is never done justice as I feel the dialogues / actions leading to it, to be lackluster and emotionally un-engaging. The point is that the adversary only appears threatening but does not pose much danger to speak of. The Fremens look like scavengers but they can easily overpower the emperor's troop and also I am to believe that somehow in terms of tech they are superior while their culture showcases so many spiritual elements.
If anyone hasn’t watched it yet please watch the first movie the day before you see it. It picks up exactly where that leaves off and it’s just a perfect experience that way.
Thank you I thought I was the only one we have to stand together. These movies look great and sound awesome but they fundamentally do not compare to the books story wise.
I kinda liked Christopher Walken as the Emperor. The character is on paper this powerful, regal figure, but really he is just a puppet that no one really takes seriously, an old bureaucrat that is silently aware of how powerless he really is. As the audience we see Christopher Walken and you can't fully take him seriously, just like the emperor. Probably wasn't intentional, but it worked for me.
Overall i loved it. Especially the immersion, the cinematography and the sound. OMG. BUT Narrative wise for someone who hasn't read the books it was hard for me to understand the sudden changes. 2/3 of the movie Paul basically denied to go south... he literally screams to people that he can't go south and 5 minutes later he decides to go there anyway and drink the water... because of what? Why? What changed? He had a vision of the holy water... but to me the audience it was not clear what actually occured. Also the romance between Paul and the Fremen Lady was not done well at all. I dont feel any connection between them. I dont really feel like that there is much going on. It felt like they spend a couple of days together. Them being together for months on ends, was not really coming through for me. And i didn't really care too much when the Fremen Lady was "betrayed" at the end. There is something missing. I just haven't seen them bonding and falling in love. I haven't seem them creating that deep connection... I was reminded of the fact that you can't tell the audience what they should feel... you have to show them so that these emotions can form on their own. You can't tell me that they are in love. You have to show me. You can't tell me that someone is brave and strong.... you have to actually show me him being brave and strong for me to come to the conclusion that he is just that. It only works that way.
the person i watched it with who read the books hated this second movie. they said they wished to see more about the life of the fremen. i liked it personally but i felt its more entertaining than meaningful. (i didnt read the books)
wasn't blown away by this movie. I'll give it a 7/10. It kind of dragged. Zendaya's character is insufferable to watch. It did have better ending than the first movie though. Honestly I don't they need to make another one. I'd rather the director do another Blade Runner movie instead of a continuation of this.
I love the weird appreciation of DUNE 1984. Give me a WILD SWING and a MISS compared to the boring forgettable drivel we’ve been served the past decade. At least Lynch’s movie (similar to Dick Tracy, Popeye, and Return to Oz) are memorable if not outright scarring childhood experiences.

Dinnes obviously dosen't like or understand Herbert Dune at all. It seems to me that he hates the subject matter
Wasn't his gladiator opponent (an Atreides soldier) also conditioned to paralyze if the duel went south?
I completely agree with everything you said
@@floricel_112 Yep. And Freyd had to use it to survive.
@possessedbygenesis8585 complete agree!

DUNE was a big "inspiration" for STAR WARS: A desert planet, the force and its mental powers, an emperor and Dath Vader, as the fallen hero.
@@matthewk4912
That Boba Fett show wasnt even trying to hide that derivative spice plot

He was not general, Feyd fought some guy who was "trained" by duncan and gurney
@@Yukon.72 watch the first movie again he’s not “some guy”.
@@Yukon.72 Nah that guy is literally is one of the Atreides top commanders. And it's mentioned by the Baron's mentat in the first movie that the Atreides commandos are arguably the best trained soldiers in the universe, rivaling the sardaukar.

Scale in this context = size/scope.

@@LaRanaFel1z debatable since Lucas ripped off Dune wholesale to make Star Wars. But lets just say the Disney movies.
Just you wait then ;)
The movie amped up the scary side of Paul a little bit from the original book, which was a good change.
For complexity, he could've not deleted the dinner scene in the first movie and all the other houses.

He just is....

the main issue with dune is padding both movies needed to remove 20 30 min each from its runtime or fill them with actual story........
the ending is offensive to the lore of the story.
Ok I'm not the only one lol
Alex's glee right throughout this review is hilarious lol. Now i have even more motivation to watch this film!
I thought it was rushed too, and was generally anticlimactic, looks beautiful though.
“Sit alongside Star Wars.” No, currently more like sit far above lol
Modern star wars? Oh no doubt
@@threelittlebirds2288 original starwars too, considering how much it stood on the shoulders of the 1965 novel.
It’s no where close to original 6 movies or LOTR. A skinny drip as the chosen one, could blow him over with a strong wind. He might take Harry Potter lol but nothing close to an anakin, Aragon or even a Neo.
@@CraigX100 over takes all of those.
@@CraigX100 Anyone who thinks that Dune Part 2 is worse than the prequel trilogy should have all of their film opinions disregarded immediately.
Oh
My
God
This movie is spectacular! Go see it in the BIGGEST screen possible ASAP Movie of the year, probably the decade. Perfect.
I've been looking forward to this review! I saw the film on Sunday, and it was great. Already planning on seeing it again!
This got me shades of the Lawrence of Arabia (one of FHerbert's inspiration for Paul) movie. I feel like one of those "classic" blockbusters of a bygone age.
They took the very first movie and stretched it into 2. They removed the best lines and they totally trivialized chain and Paul’s relationship
How do fremens dismount sandworms?
Dune 2 fucked the timeline and characters. They fucked it up after the first half hour.
Paul and Chani never had a son etc
The list goes on.
No weirding module? The new dune movies are just garbage.
A lot of people are obssessed with Rautha. I don't get why
@@Diogolindirbecause his scenes and acting were masterpieces, pretty simple really
This movie was average, climactic scenes were anti climatic, pacing was bad. 90% of the movie is focused on character development and yet you could care less for any of the characters. Visuals were amazing ill give them that, but thats about all.
lore wise the old 80s dune is better
i was hoping they can explain some stuff or show a navigator or something but nothing
Did understand why the hero's girlfriend was angry and left at the end .
How war is planned and executed In order to control people
28:58 - As of 5 days ago, Dune II had grossed $626m. So it's not far off.
Good work shouting out Quinns Ideas,

I honesty dont know how someone who read the book can think about this movie as good. I am up for good "fight" if someone want to challenge me :)
Thank you I thought I was the only one we have to stand together. These movies look great and sound awesome but they fundamentally do not compare to the books story wise.
Low effort bait
@@justifano7046 sorry I dont understand what you mean?
I kinda liked Christopher Walken as the Emperor. The character is on paper this powerful, regal figure, but really he is just a puppet that no one really takes seriously, an old bureaucrat that is silently aware of how powerless he really is. As the audience we see Christopher Walken and you can't fully take him seriously, just like the emperor. Probably wasn't intentional, but it worked for me.
This movie had such cinematography, loved it
Overall i loved it. Especially the immersion, the cinematography and the sound. OMG.
BUT
Narrative wise for someone who hasn't read the books it was hard for me to understand the sudden changes.
Not a chance that was a 10/10, for one i didn't know what was happing let alone enjoying it.
Maybe stick to Marvel movies where they explain everything for you.
the person i watched it with who read the books hated this second movie. they said they wished to see more about the life of the fremen. i liked it personally but i felt its more entertaining than meaningful. (i didnt read the books)
loved the movie, but wish they would have shown more of the large scale battle
wasn't blown away by this movie. I'll give it a 7/10. It kind of dragged. Zendaya's character is insufferable to watch. It did have better ending than the first movie though. Honestly I don't they need to make another one. I'd rather the director do another Blade Runner movie instead of a continuation of this.
It was cool that they used Christopher Walken because he was in Fat Boy Slim's music video for "Weapon of Choice" and Dune is referenced in that song
*Whenever Joe talks about source material* I just get the vibe he hasn’t read it 💀
Because he did not.
Joe is a hack
Usually Joe means
1) what my friends told me about the books
or
2) what the first movie/show I watched was like
OJ saying, "Austin Butler comes out looking like Powder" got me rolling 😂😂😂😂
