Simulator Training - Your Last Step Before Flying Jets!

  • (Filmed in coordination with American Airlines, Envoy Air, and FlightSafety outside of required airline flight training).... Regardless of which airline you'll fly for one day, the last step before flying jets for the first time is simulator training. These simulators are so accurate that you can literally feel bumps in the pavement while taxiing. Here's what you can expect from training in multi-million dollar sims!
    This was my last step before flying the Embraer 145 during "initial operating experience" (IOE), which is the topic for the next video. All Part 121 training was conducted separately from any video production.

    Thanks for checking out the video guys! It's amazing how well this training prepared me to fly the actual airplane. There's plenty of videos coming up soon about flying the line and operations. If there's something specific you want to see or learn about, leave a comment below! And if you have specific questions, feel free to shoot me an email or Instagram message.

      @Joe Biden I'm working on it! Thanks!

    • @myownboss1
      @myownboss1 5 років тому +8

      Biden and Asiatech, let me start by admitting that I was probably not the most motivated to make flying a career; I was too scared to run out of money! I am now a 50 year old prison nurse making an easy 6-figures a year with pension (‘easy’ in that the prison setting is actually a LOT LESS stressful than the hospital setting believe me!!!). I started flying in the early 90s gaining experience on piper 160s. Within 4 years of me starting, the rental fees more than doubled!!!! Back then, I was just a customer service rep making 20k a year if that... so with rent etc, I decided to stop flying and go back to school for an accounting degree and spent of my life as an accountant. But after a couple of layoffs in the early 2000s, I went back to school again to become an RN because I figured they always need nurses plus there was a shortage. Marriage didn’t take money, 3 children did!!! Children ain’t cheap... I worked 5 years in the hospital, then moved on to prison where the money is great and easy with pension and benefits, BUT now I am 50 going on 51!!!!! Speaking for ME, it is TOO LATE. I gave chemo, and I realized that people 50 plus years old are more prone to get a cancer diagnosis or other chronic illness that takes money to treat etc; also due to my accounting experience, I know and believe that people 50+ years old should really concentrate on saving for retirement and paying off their mortgage, because if a sickness occurs, it can darn near bankrupt them!!! I’ve seen it!! So me personally, don’t believe a 50+ year old should be spending big money or borrowing money to start a new career, but focusing on financial security for the upcoming ‘twilight years’, etc. so for ME, pursuing a flying career is OVER... I have been trying to get my 13 year old daughter interested and have paid for a couple of ‘intro’ flights, but she has not inherited my flying bug so far. I am now financially ‘secure’ with no debt (except mortgage) or health issues at the moment so I may try to fly as a hobby soon, but I am not interested in spending big money or borrowing to pursue flying as a career at 50+ and would not recommend anyone do so... in my opinion only...

    Awesome video Swayne! It’s super cool being able to see what you’ve accomplished. I’m a student pilot and I hope to follow in your footsteps and fly for Envoy and then American. One question though, what’s the difference between restricted and unrestricted ATP?

    • @SwayneMartinPilot
      @SwayneMartinPilot  5 років тому

      The biggest practical difference is that you can get an R-ATP with less hours than the ATP at a younger age.

      Swayne Martin interesting . Thanks for the info

    • @bkb7059
      @bkb7059 5 років тому +1

      Also with a restricted ATP, you may not be PIC of the aircraft flying left seat. Which is obviously not an issue for the airlines because you’ll be sitting right seat anyways. But if you’re attempting to get into the 135 side of things with a restricted ATP as a Captain on a small jet, it’s not possible. You must have the unrestricted ATP. Which basically means you have to be right seat until 1500 hours anyways. Makes sense for the 121 side, but not for 135.

      Employees, spouses, children, and parents get unlimited standby travel. Additionally, immediate family members of the employee get 10 higher priority standby passes. You get 16 'buddy passes' to use for friends, but they are the lowest on the priority list. Both of these will reset every year. When you are actually flying a trip, all your hotels are paid for. Every month, you get 4 extra commuter hotel nights to use when you need them.

    Weird question but do you have videos of a simulator creating an emergency situation? Dropping elevation due to turbulence, engine failure etc?
    It's got to get real bumpy up there and I would think pilots need to think fast.

    Fantastic Swayne. Always aim to enjoy sim. 8 hrs a year now until you retire! Incidentally my Kona trip went well. RTW eastbound in 4 sectors, 36.5 hrs!

    Swayne, I am getting ready to move to Hawaii. I am looking to retire from the Army there also. How long from when you were hired with Mokulele till you were able to get on with Envoy Air? How many hours were you flying a month with Mokulele?

    It's really cool how you're showing literally the steps on how you become an airline pilot. I've seen no other channel doing this, and it's really cool! I plan on becoming a pilot for Delta Airlines and I feel I am accomplishing that well. I just recently became a freshman in highschool and I have good grades and I'm getting involved in sports. I already have a few colleges in mind that I want to go to. Thanks for letting us know how the steps are done!
