Simulator Training - Your Last Step Before Flying Jets!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- (Filmed in coordination with American Airlines, Envoy Air, and FlightSafety outside of required airline flight training).... Regardless of which airline you'll fly for one day, the last step before flying jets for the first time is simulator training. These simulators are so accurate that you can literally feel bumps in the pavement while taxiing. Here's what you can expect from training in multi-million dollar sims!
This was my last step before flying the Embraer 145 during "initial operating experience" (IOE), which is the topic for the next video. All Part 121 training was conducted separately from any video production.

Thanks for checking out the video guys! It's amazing how well this training prepared me to fly the actual airplane. There's plenty of videos coming up soon about flying the line and operations. If there's something specific you want to see or learn about, leave a comment below! And if you have specific questions, feel free to shoot me an email or Instagram message.
Awesome job man! Can't wait to see the future vids!
Absolutely loving these videos. My dream was to fly for a living but life handed me other plans unfortunately. This is giving me an insight on the life I'm sadly too old (at almost 34) to purse now that things are back on track.
Swayne Martin just got hired by Envoy! Starting ATP-CTP in either December or January. See you on the line someday
Matt_Waddy - 34, really you could have 20+ year career flying.
Awesome job Swayne.
Thank you American Airline for allowing Swayne to video the process to being a AA/Envoy pilot. Great job Swayne love your video. Can't wait for your actual flight in a 145.
like2fly I’m so glad I’m able to lift the curtain a little bit on how this stuff works - No airline has allowed filming quite like this!
Swayne Martin do you plan on “upgrading” airlines, and if so, what airline?
Well done, Swayne. Congratulations!
NO REPLIES
As a 50 year old who wished he could have done what you are doing back in the day (but money and then family ‘got in the way’), I’ll just live through you! Keep it up! And thanks for the great videos!!!!!
Thanks for following along!
I can relate! I'm 44 now and sure wish I made different decisions back then and finished what I started. But like you, I started a family and my priorities changed.
I would be interested to learn from you how deciding to marry hampered your goals? - i thought marriage and family are good??
@Joe Biden I'm working on it! Thanks!
Biden and Asiatech, let me start by admitting that I was probably not the most motivated to make flying a career; I was too scared to run out of money! I am now a 50 year old prison nurse making an easy 6-figures a year with pension (‘easy’ in that the prison setting is actually a LOT LESS stressful than the hospital setting believe me!!!). I started flying in the early 90s gaining experience on piper 160s. Within 4 years of me starting, the rental fees more than doubled!!!! Back then, I was just a customer service rep making 20k a year if that... so with rent etc, I decided to stop flying and go back to school for an accounting degree and spent of my life as an accountant. But after a couple of layoffs in the early 2000s, I went back to school again to become an RN because I figured they always need nurses plus there was a shortage. Marriage didn’t take money, 3 children did!!! Children ain’t cheap... I worked 5 years in the hospital, then moved on to prison where the money is great and easy with pension and benefits, BUT now I am 50 going on 51!!!!! Speaking for ME, it is TOO LATE. I gave chemo, and I realized that people 50 plus years old are more prone to get a cancer diagnosis or other chronic illness that takes money to treat etc; also due to my accounting experience, I know and believe that people 50+ years old should really concentrate on saving for retirement and paying off their mortgage, because if a sickness occurs, it can darn near bankrupt them!!! I’ve seen it!! So me personally, don’t believe a 50+ year old should be spending big money or borrowing money to start a new career, but focusing on financial security for the upcoming ‘twilight years’, etc. so for ME, pursuing a flying career is OVER... I have been trying to get my 13 year old daughter interested and have paid for a couple of ‘intro’ flights, but she has not inherited my flying bug so far. I am now financially ‘secure’ with no debt (except mortgage) or health issues at the moment so I may try to fly as a hobby soon, but I am not interested in spending big money or borrowing to pursue flying as a career at 50+ and would not recommend anyone do so... in my opinion only...
3:07 Our man is being followed into the simulator by what appears to be a very lifelike robot.
I’d fly with Swayne any day! 👍😀💫
Come fly with us sometime! Thanks for checking out the videos
It's pretty admirable that you were able to do this video while going through the stresses of training. Well done!
bro, please upload more frequently..
ICE probably kind of hard when training is so backed up and he will prob be on reserve for awhile
Congratulations Swayne ! I've been a part of your journey since the first video. You've worked hard to achieve your goals, and should be proud of your accomplishments. All the best from RSW
Thanks Bruce!
Awesome video Swayne! It’s super cool being able to see what you’ve accomplished. I’m a student pilot and I hope to follow in your footsteps and fly for Envoy and then American. One question though, what’s the difference between restricted and unrestricted ATP?
The biggest practical difference is that you can get an R-ATP with less hours than the ATP at a younger age.
Swayne Martin interesting . Thanks for the info
Also with a restricted ATP, you may not be PIC of the aircraft flying left seat. Which is obviously not an issue for the airlines because you’ll be sitting right seat anyways. But if you’re attempting to get into the 135 side of things with a restricted ATP as a Captain on a small jet, it’s not possible. You must have the unrestricted ATP. Which basically means you have to be right seat until 1500 hours anyways. Makes sense for the 121 side, but not for 135.
BKB good to know
Awesome work man! I'm currently working towards my PPL and I'm absolutely loving it.
Congratulations on achieving the dream for so many of us. Looking forward to following your continued adventures.

I flew those same EMB 145 sims in 2001 in order to qualify for my AA flow thru slot. I was supposed to flow in 2003 but 9/11 happened. I waited 12 years for my flow and yesterday, I just upgraded to 737 Captain.
Loved the video! Btw how old are u? Looks like a smart and young pilot
Ewin George 21!
Swayne, congratulations on getting through this phase. It's so cool that you can document this so everyone can see what goes on in the training of airline pilots. Good luck as you move forward!
Pete Mac thank you !
Can’t wait till your first flight!!!✈️
Keep it up man ur one of my favorite youtubers of all time thank u for finally uploading ur a very inspiring young man and I would love to know when will ur next upload be btw I changed my UA-cam name from The Manager to Sicily Zcloud keep it up ur awesome
Very Nice, Swayne Martin! Well, im going to be a pilot too and i see that you will be a very good professional.
Im from Brazil, the home of Embraer, so im very happy that the embraer will be a part of your life to start too! Well, ill see all your new videos, you can count on me.
The Embraer factory is less than 50 km from my home.
Thank you!
Great behind the scenes look! Everyone who wants to fly at the airline has to get used to being tested every 6 months in the sim. Do you guys have LOFT built into the training or just straight PPC rides? Keep up the great work🤙🏻
Can you please talk about the benefits in airlines such as free traveling, family/buddy passes, hotel, and other expenses in your upcoming videos? Your videos help me understand the process of being a pilot from A to Z. Thank you so much for sharing your experience!!!!! Good luck with your upcoming flights! Be safe!
Ronak Joshi planning to do that!
Employees, spouses, children, and parents get unlimited standby travel. Additionally, immediate family members of the employee get 10 higher priority standby passes. You get 16 'buddy passes' to use for friends, but they are the lowest on the priority list. Both of these will reset every year. When you are actually flying a trip, all your hotels are paid for. Every month, you get 4 extra commuter hotel nights to use when you need them.
Hi Swayne. Just some questions... Have you done the private pilot certificate or you got the license by another way? To be a commercial pilot, do you need to pay like the private one? And how do you become a pilot? The Flight Academy makes you a pilot or helps you? I'm a big fan, congrats btw!
Giammy You’ll have to pay for all of your flight training through CFI usually
You said to follow you on IG if we had questions, I followed and DMed but no response :(. You are probably very busy with school and training (which is what I have questions on)
I will try to get back to you soon! Try shooting me another message. My inbox gets so full that messages are auto deleted sometimes
Starting training in the ERJ-175 on Monday!! Can hardly wait.
Awesome!!
my son is going to start ATP school
in may 2019 he likes your videos and i enjoy them too thanks for making the video! congratulations ,Darryl
Darryl or Julie Rugh that’s great!
Thank you for these Envoy Training videos, you have inspired me to become a pilot.
No problem! I'm glad you've been enjoying them.
fans need to get together and have a sold out plane for the first flight!
Very interesting! Thanks for sharing your experience.
Thx for reupload love the vids
Yep! The last one got pixelated - not sure how
Swayne Martin I wanna be a delta pilot can u make a long video on how you went from the first private pilot lesson to being a airline pilot
why didnt you choose to go to skywest from Mokulele? i thought they had a transition program.
Envoy made more sense for me personally! I've been happy so far. I also have friends at Skywest and they love it
That was awesome Swayne. Looking forward to follow along the journey.
Thanks Sam!
I'm so excited to see this fruitful video and can't wait to see you as an regional jet pilot, please can you make a video describing your whole career after you become a pilot for envoy.🇮🇪🇮🇳👍👍👍👍👍👍🙂
Sometime I will try to!
Thank you
can i try?
I'm really excited for you, Swayne! It is awesome to see how excited you are about this, and how far you have come.
Thank you Ryley!
6th
Thanks for the video Swayne! Just wondering, how many hours of sim training did you get in total at academy and including ATP course?
69 subbs
My ForeFlight subscription is up on December. Would you recommend upgrading to Jepp charts to get used to them? I enjoy your videos and hope to follow your steps one day. I’ll just be an old dad looking guy.
I love Jepp charts!
Unless you have airline training within the next year, it's not worth the expense. As far as getting used to them, provided your proficient at IFR, you'll be good to go with maybe an hour and a half of comparing the two.
My flight instructor is still waiting for his sim training with piedmont. He was suppose to do it in september but with switching from the dash 8 to the e145, training got backed up.
You have so much knowledge its amazing and also powerful!!!!!
Amazing, keep up the great work.
Congratulations! More videos! It'd be very nice to get your informal impressions. You almost crack a wide grin several times, it would be nice to have a more informal setting. Thanks for the videos! Look forward to all of them.
അണ്ണാ ഈ കോഴ്സ് പഠിക്കാൻ എത്ര ഡോളർ ചിലവുണ്ട്
Another informative video. The thoroughness of your explanations make me confident of your flying ability. You are an inspiration to the flying public.
Thanks for the video swayne good work keep it up, love ur videos man! If u could help me with something. In my flight sim i dont know how to plan a decent with a fmc or fms, Thanks!
Did get to choose the plane wanted to fly...can you though?
Check out the previous video!
Thank you for your videos and the great content of them. I'm aspiring to become an airline pilot and your videos really light an even greater spark for me to pursue it. Thank you!
Congratulations. Enjoy the videos.
Thanks Gary!
Congrats Swayne! Looking forward to your first flight in the real aircraft.
Thanks John!
Hey I just wanted to say I have watched your videos since the day you started uploading and I can’t wait till you actual fly a big 747 I would fly with you like everyday I hope you stay a pilot forever 🤗🤗
Thank you!
Music is way too loud.
Are you finished training
Yes!
Swayne Martin well done I might end up as one of you passengers one day so hyped for you
@@SwayneMartinPilot congrats 😀😀😀😀
Ah yes the FHS (flight heavy simulation) it resembles the A-30-20-30 and80
Can you start training to fly an aircraft for envoy after your 1500 hours from ATP flight school
Super Awesome insight into the industry's training regime. Thanks for the video!
Did initial ground training feel intimidating with all the new complex aircraft system and differences from prior aircraft?
What place do you go to get a job as an Airline Pilot?
You have to apply for a job in airlines, and you can get an invitation to a job interview. The airline will decide if they want to hire you.
Hey man, congrats on finishing the type rating and good luck with the line training. Greetings from a fellow regional guy on the Q400 over in Latvia. (P.s. also got my recurrent SIM coming up in december :D)
Edgar Burtnieks Thank you! Just flew on a Q400 last week and loved it
Great stuff here Swayne, and hopefully some of the younger people see this and decide to become a pilot one day just like you.
Thanks Bob!
Awesome videos Swayne! Those shots you got of the aircraft look crispy!
Thanks Brandon!
14 years ago I had the privilege of flying level D full motion sims of the A320 & 747-400 at the United Airlines Training Center here in Colorado and not a day has gone by since that I haven’t wished I could go back. I’m not a lunatic... I know they were sims... but somewhere in the darkest recesses of my feeble old mind I still believe that I actually flew those planes even after all these years. ;)
Please make a viedo when you are flying e145 jet and love you all the pilots
Do you have streamers for your bicycle handlebars? ;) haha sorry couldn't resist.
Were you ever a flight instructor or did you go straight to mokulele airlines?
Nice maybe one day you’ll be flying something bigger like anA320 or 737 maybe even a 777 or 787
Very interesting . WOW the flight simulators sure are super expensive . May I ask where is the flight training academy & do them have dorms you live in while training or did you live a hotel & eat your meals in restaurants . Once you actually start flying jets if you ever lay over @ Tampa Airport let me know so we can meet up. I live only about an hour from Tampa Airport OK Swayne ?
Hi Found you over Captain Joe :D I am flying Boeing 737-800 in a 1:1 Homecockpit. Greetings from germany!
I have never taken an aviation class or even been interested in this type of thing, but my question is, can one build muscle memory for a real flight in one of those things?
Hi Swayne, nice video! What are your thoughts on flying long haul, later in your career ? - I personally have the choice right now, to choice to fly the B787 or stay on the B738NG. But personally I like being home often on the B738 operation, and not dealing with jet lag. What's your thoughts ?
I would love to one day!
Keep up the great work! Looks like a blast for sure! Inspiring young man!
Thanks Jason!
Can you inform us with real facts regards university or courses, quotas, costs,etc.. Becca pell grant and federal loans vs private loans and out of pocket money.
1. The training for a beginner start at university?
2. Did you have to pay for hours time ?
I am so, so happy every time I watch one of your videos. There are so many people in my life right now telling me not to do this, not to follow my dreams because it's not what they want me to do or because it's "risky", and sometimes I find myself wondering if I'm choosing the right thing. Any time I watch a video you've made, though, I realize that it doesn't matter at all what they think because this is exactly what I want to do. Seriously thank you so much and I can't believe how far you've come in the time I've been watching your videos!!
Thanks Catherine! DONT listen to them. I had so many people from the very beginning tell me not to do this... And look what I would've missed out on!
Ahhhh, been a while since last. But darn you are becoming a real good video producer!
Thank you! Sorry it was a bit behind - Was focused on training!
I've been following you since the very beginning of your pilot career. It's incredible to see how far you have come in a relatively short period of time. I envy your life. And for somebody I don't know I'm extremely proud of how motivated you are to become a commercial airline pilot. So young, and yet so accomplished. I wish I had made better decisions in my life to where I could have done the same.
Boosted Speed Demon Thanks for following along! It’s never to late to get started. I have friends who made the transition as late as 60 years old!
You are the best youtuber because you most often reply to your followers..👍👍👍👍👍🇮🇪
Thank you!
😊👍👍👍👍
Weird question but do you have videos of a simulator creating an emergency situation? Dropping elevation due to turbulence, engine failure etc?
It's got to get real bumpy up there and I would think pilots need to think fast.
Fantastic Swayne. Always aim to enjoy sim. 8 hrs a year now until you retire! Incidentally my Kona trip went well. RTW eastbound in 4 sectors, 36.5 hrs!
Speed Brake Miss Kona!
What is your dream plane to fly?
Aviationgeek hmm good question. I don’t really have a preference but I think the 787 would be amazing
1 american airlines 737 surrounded by alaska jets
You have to bid for SIM Slots?? I knew the industry was messed up in the US but this really puts the icing on the cake...
How many hours of simulator training before the LOE checkride?
Well done Swayne!!! Congratulations! Have enjoyed and learned a lot from your very professional videos! Keep up the great work! I got my medical and am getting current on my FI and FII. I havnt flown since 2002 but am on my way to getting my first job flying!
Keep working hard!
what to do after 12 class to become pilot? i am not sure i m correct please read and reply

I’m very impressed and a wee bit intimidated by all that you have to do yearly anyhoo clear skies F O Martin and my best wishes to you and your partner. 🙏👍
What procedures do you guys cover in the sim? like what abnormal procedures?
Very n ice video. As a simulator engineer, i really like those machines
Love the detailed videos following you through your hiring/training. Keep them up!
Thanks Adam!
Swayne, I am getting ready to move to Hawaii. I am looking to retire from the Army there also. How long from when you were hired with Mokulele till you were able to get on with Envoy Air? How many hours were you flying a month with Mokulele?
Congrats, man! Hoping to join you in the skies soon, except I’ll hopefully be with SkyWest!
Matt Robinson Congrats Matt!
It's really cool how you're showing literally the steps on how you become an airline pilot. I've seen no other channel doing this, and it's really cool! I plan on becoming a pilot for Delta Airlines and I feel I am accomplishing that well. I just recently became a freshman in highschool and I have good grades and I'm getting involved in sports. I already have a few colleges in mind that I want to go to. Thanks for letting us know how the steps are done!
I'm glad I'm able to show you guys! This is the first time anyone has done it from a 1st person point of view... And I couldn't be happier to see it's helping people out
Why can't you fly the E-175 there the same cockpit
Congrats man... Proud of you... See you in the skies
Very cool video! Im so happy for you!
Swayne, which flight school did you go attend and how long was it before you went into the airlines ? Your response will be very appreciated thank you
I have huge respect for what you are doing. I am impressed by not only the training, but your ability to get the clearances to share this experience with us. I admire your ability to make things happen.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you noticed that. It takes months to get approvals in place most of the time... Happy to finally make it happen!
Congratulations!🎈🎉🎊🍾
Thank you!
Wow Amazing great video
JB Airways glad you liked it!
Lol " there's a pilot shortage cost is a major reason for new pilots quitting ". I got an idea let's buy several multi million dollar stimulators for training
Well done on your accomplishments. It would be awesome someday to be deplaning from a trip and meet you acknowledging the passengers and thanking them for 'Flying with American Eagle / Envoy" 👍👍👍👍👍
I always fly American Eagle from Dubuque Iowa to Chicago
Any tips to someone who would like to become a pilot, but is scared away by the price (Australia) and also have heard that it is very hard...
