My grandson spray painted my car with black spray paint, my neighbor suggested that I use WD40 to clean it off, and it worked beautifully! You just have to leave it on for about 5 minutes, & then wipe it off. I was so grateful!!
Oh wow, good to know and glad it worked!
@@DuncanCustomAirbrush Basically, WD40 is silicone based, so I'd think that just getting the silicone stuff people use for acrylic pouring and using that would be a LOT cheaper, although I haven't tried it. Just a thought, WD40 is EXPENSIVE!!
The wood grain tool is so helpful. One tip is paint a lighter wood color, and let it dry and then go back with a darker wood color and drag the tool lightly over it.
Great tip!
But what is the tool
@@michellependergrass8479 it is called a foe wood grain tool. I purchased mine at Ace hardware years ago.
@@michellependergrass8479 It's called a graining tool and can be found many places.
So much fun! I have even painted with 3 similar colors in the base coat(and as you mentioned, let it dry before top coat & using the tool!)
If you pull off your tape at a 90 degree angle ON THE SAME PLANE AS THE TAPE, it comes off easier and with fewer tears because the force is distributed over a greater area and the adhesive doesn't bond with the same strength at that angle. A hair dryer blowing ahead of your pull can also help.
We used to use WD40 caps and nozzle straw things to mix spray paint colours. Can of white in ice cold water and red in a bucket of hot, connect then spray to mix up a pink. Add blue for purple etc.... 💜
Now that sounds like fun!
Cling film: place a layer of plastic wrap or a cut-down plastic bag over the top of the can before you seal up the lid, this helps create a tight seal, creates a barrier against metal-to-metal corrosion, and also makes it easier to “cleanly” open the can when the time comes. If I have a paint can that’s still 3/4 full or completely full, I always store them upside down. Keeps the paint from creating that clumpy film on top.
I worked for Benjamin Moore for years inside and outside sales. One of my favorite store managers was an old school woman Janette who had been in the business for 40+ years. God Bless that woman for mentoring me but Janette was known in our town that if you had a difficult paint job, or color match or maybe you royally screwed something up and your customer is furious, you would go to Janette. The wood grain hack definitely works. I saw her do this on tile before and I also saw her use two different stains before and did it on a fireplace mantle. I used to watch her in amazement.
Sounds like a great mentor
Lm*j
love using the blow torch over the no flame warning 🤣🤣🤣
LOL!
lol
You can take a nail and make 2 holes in the rim where the top firs down into and the paint won't run down the side .. it goes back in can .. GREAT hack try it!!
Ow, ow, ow, ow 20:05 that cracked me up... One time I dropped some hot glue on the floor and used my finger to wipe it up. When it burned me, I wiped it off with my other finger and burned that one too!
Note to self: Don't use your fingers to wipe off hot glue!
If you need to close up your paint and you can't get the lid clean, put press-n-seal over the top and put the lid on (works for house paint lids and plastic screw on bottles!) I work with fluid art and mediums are practically glue, so this makes things much easier for me!
Murphy’s soap will restore your brush
Some good hacks( thank you)... leading to one of most hysterical videos I've seen.!! Thank you for the laughs! You are a kick!
Glad you enjoyed!
YOU ARE THE GAME CHANGER! I am American but have lived in Frankfurt, Germany since 1996, so I am always desperate for hacks in ENGLISH. I’m an English teacher, and your English is not merely good, but colorful, witty, and clever. Marry me!
I saw him first.
The wood grain tool is awesome…it just has a bit of a learning curve. Don’t push down too hard and don’t stop or hesitate.
When he panned down to his ninja turtle toes ! Socks n flopps! U are too funny, and extremely likable ♥️
Try using a nail and hammering it into the indent where the lid fits into a can of paint. That will allow the paint to flow back into the can of paint after you are done pouring the paint out of the can. Try using rubbing alcohol to remove fairly fresh acrylic paint from things. Love knowing Matte medium will keep paint from going under take when making tape lines. Thanks!
I tried the WD40 spray cap on a Rust-Oleum can..
And all I can say is..."WOW"....that was soooo cool.....
I still need to share my "Paint stripping" on a tumbler with fire sometime.....
irk, it is awesome!
@@DuncanCustomAirbrushWD40 is useful to remove paint from textile, ie. clothes
The wood comb goes back over 100's of years. It works great once you get the hang of it.
someone does a technique or something, people think it is new when it goes back old school meaning years and year Yes, your statement is so true. I see it all the time too. Happens in soap-making and other craft/art industries all the time too. LOL People try to claim those old ways as theirs all the time.
We owned a house from 1861. All the woodwork was down with the comb technique. Something I didn't understand considering the house had beautiful woodwork. The comb technique was done beautifully. I also had a friend who would do it for the historical society. I enjoy learning all these old art forms.
As a professional decorator, the wood grainer is not for the heavy-handed. And remember to wipe the access paint from the head before each pass.
And go over it with a softener/flogger brush to ease of harsh lines
While using painters tape on the top edge of a paint can; The 'V' can work with 'wide' tape, or you could lay the tape side by side to make it wider... Be sure to press the tape down on both the inner ring and the outer ring to create a seal on each... Like when you used that board for all three of your 'paint' projects. Painters tape is specifically made so you can press it down to prevent 'bleeding' under the tape, and still be able to pull it up. Personal preference as to if you pull the tape up while the paint is still wet or wait until it dries! I hope this makes sense! Thank you for making me, well, bellow with laughter at times!!!
Another hack for clean lines you can also paint your tape with Mod podge before painting the area and your lines will be crisp.
That last tip looks great for Taggers.
That eyeball behind you is EPIC and what I’ve been trying to accomplish for ohhh idk 15 years!?!? SHANTASTIC!!!
I have a video on my channel of making that eyeball, you should check it out 👍
Latex & acrylic tips
Try using a glaze for the wood grain tool instead of full strength paint. Plus, the tips on other comments.
Another way to marble is to brush the general lines on and spray it with a mist of isopropyl alcohol. Kind of like your spray paint & alcohol video. That will give a nice foggy edge plus a mottled effect. Then pull a thin brush through in some places to add dimension. Do small areas like 2 - 3 square feet to keep the wet edges.
Use an ice cube tray to mix small batches of colors that you'll need throughout your project. Cover tightly with plastic wrap or foil & it will last up to a week.
Use a rubber spatula to get the last of the paint out of a can. Dollar store has different sizes & shapes.
- When the paint builds up at the top on the can despite being careful, run 2" tape around the top of the can & fold it over on the lid to create a seal. If you know it may be over a year before you'll need it, use a good duct tape, or the aluminum duct tape.
That aluminum tape also is the best seal for caulk tubes!
I enjoy your videos! I've only seen a few so far and subscribed!
Great tips. The trick with the dryer sheet does work. First you must start with very hot water, stir it well once the dryer sheet has time to release some of its good stuff. Every once in awhile pick up the brush and stir. Leave over night. Next day try brraking up the brush and do it again. I find it best if you can put a lid on it in order to keep the heat it. Patience is key and it may take a few times. It also works fantastic if you burn something in your pot. Never thought id ever get it cleaned until someone suggested the dryer sheet.I ran across your video today and your funny, talented and witty. I'll be checking your channel out.
Plastic orange juice bottles with the wide mouth work great. But I don’t cut mine up as a lid for the can (good idea tho) , just fill them with the paint. Some I’ve had for years and the paint is still good.
Sweet idea!
Taylor these hacks were interesting. Thank you for either proving them or debunking them. Blessings 🙏🏽
My pleasure, glad you enjoyed!
I love the things you do on this channel, and the personality that you instill into each......LMFAO at that belch 🤭😆🤣😂😝
lol, the belch was from the movie Elf!
Murphy's Oil Soap is supposed to remove dried paint. I don't think you add water. Leave overnight. I see people commenting on it all the time.
I'm pretty good about not letting paint dry in my brushes. I put them in a water jar if I have to take a break. And then just use another brush when I start up again. Or, if I have to, I have a special sponge to absorb the water and then dry it with paper towels so it doesn't water down the paint.
I’ve used Murphy’s Oil Soap on acrylic and latex paint that’s dried on brushes for weeks and it works just glop it on bristles and put in warm water cover just bristles over night or few days sometimes❤
"socks and sandals, activate!" 😂😂
U are so fun!! Ty for sharing these hacks, the last one with the WD-40 nozzle is my fav, I will definitely be doing that one myself! 😁
Happy Easter to u guys and God bless!
Thank you and hope you have a blessed Easter!🙌
To get a clean line with any tape: first paint with the same colour as the background - when that is dry, apply the colour you want ;-)
When you make the V with the tape on the paint can, make sure the bottom of the V is close to the edge. You had it like in the middle of the can. Hope that makes sense 😆
Great video! I want to try the line technique. 😊
Good to know!
@@DuncanCustomAirbrush and also make sure the tape is secured to the edge of the inside lip of the can to create a proper seal, that’s why the paint got into the rim 🤔
For the V shape paint pour trick, try pressing the tape on the rim so it can’t get in the groove when you pour.
I'm Def trying the WD40 cap on the spray paint!! Thank you fix sharing!! You're a hit
My pleasure!!
Same! That's so cool!
You can use white paint on your tape edges to prevent leaks. Or paint that matches whatever your base is.
I use hand sanitizer to remove dry acrylic paint from my paint brushes. Let him sit about 10 to 15 minutes and then I clean it while it’s still in the hand sanitizer and it comes off perfectly
ah I will have to try that!
Thanks for a good laugh and awesome tips! Try putting your crusty brush in 91% alcohol, but don't leave it to long the alcohol will destroy the adhesive holding the bristols in! I use Murphy's Soap and Dawn to clean my brushes, but if I accidentally leave on out, alcohol to the rescue!!
I LOVE your accent and your style! You are fun to watch and your tests of various hacks is really informative. I just want to run out right now and buy all this stuff! You are a fantastic salesman. You are awesome!
You've cheered me up no end 😅
You're so entertaining! Also, informative! So fun.
Thank you!
I use WD40 to clean the polyurethane off my paint brushes. Spray it on and wack it, slap it back and forth on a telephone pole or a board. Cleans the brush like new again.
You are hilarious. A good laugh to start my day. And learned what to try and what NOT to. Thank you. I don’t have an airbrush but will Definitely will check out some of your other videos.
The WD-40 hack is used for removing paint transfer from guard poles. You spray WD-40 on the transfered paint, let it sit for 30min then scrub with a magic eraser. It works very well.
Wondering where the yellow and orange went? Look at your brush. The yellow and orange mixed with the green at the end of the brush. You needed a lot more of those 2 colors at the end to separate themselves. In this case, they just mixed and you're lucky you didn't get brown. If you don't get your color to the end of your brush, it's going to mix with the adjacent colors and you'll never see the ones you put down. Check out the image of the brush at 6:33.
Tells you all you need to know.
I had a van, years ago, which I used as a test for painting techniques. For the instrument cluster panel (close to the size of the glove compartment door) ... I took both out of the van. Then I painted them both the same color. Then for the hack, I took plastic (I used the scrap from model car building) ... I held the instrument cluster and glove box door (freshly painted sides facing down ...) lit on fire, the plastic, and held it beneath the fresh paint ... so that the spidery smoke ... only ... landed on the fresh paint. Then I let the paint dry ... and once fully dry, I clear coated the items. The result, was wispy, smoke on the paint, and the clear, just kept the smoke from wiping off. A real cool easy and cheap effect, for smaller pieces. Though I contemplated a larger area, on the side of the van, using the same technique, but with a very slow fan, or possibly even blowing through a straw, gently pushing the smoke onto the paint.
Cool! I have a video on my channel where I painted with smoke before 👍
VERY cool idea @Orionbennett776! I wish we could attatch thumb nails in our posts to share things like that as a visual. AND as for YOU DUNCAN….where is THAT painting with SMOKE VID???????❤
@@tovah2276 yeah being able to post pics would be a nice feature on YT ... I have a classic truck (similar to my old van) that I would like to show to Duncan for ideas as to how to fix scratches in a heavy metal flake.
Reminded me of when I was sixteen, babysitting the kids down the street and the 8 year old thought it would be hilarious to spray the kitchen linoleum floor with Pam cooking spray! 🤨 Just about broke my neck!!
First time watcher, you had me at "At least I was asleep and I didn't even know I was wasting time" 🤣 then 19:06 🤣, then for the rest I was just in hysterics. Thank you! I haven't had a laugh like that for a long time. I am so glad I came across your channel. Subscribed, shared and a very big thumbs up!
another tip, my stepdaughter paints houses, and she uses the green frog tape for crisp lines, but if she doesn't have it she just lays down the tape and puts a very thin layer of any crap caulk she has over her tape and the edge to be painted, but you should scuff pad the area or the paint will most likely peal off to the edge of the caulk, i've seen that happen
Fun! Will try the tape and medium also the plastic wrap. Thanks!
That WD-40 can in my husband’s garage is MINE today! 😉I dig #10. Thanks for tryin these out so we don’t have to. 😁
LOL, Have fun!
WD-40 is great for cleaning metal and removing label glues. You have to let it set on the label for awhile before it will loosen the glue.
Mind blown over #10…trying that tomorrow
🤯🤯🤯
Great video. You’re just the cutest!!! I just about died when you showed your socks in flip flops. OMG, You’re like one of my children. 😂😂😂
😂😂😂🧦🩴
OMG, I couldn't stop laughing! Thank you.....I needed that after a day like today! 🤣🤣🤣
15:39 for an old crusty paint brush Murphy's oil soap and hot water works great if you can paperclip it to the top so that it's not resting on the bottom then just leave it in there and eventually it'll start coming off you can use an old toothbrush to then brush through the bristles this is what happens when your mother is an artist
Great tip!
I am constantly forgetting to wash my brushes, and soaking in alcohol does a pretty good job on acrylic paint.
Instead of putting the paint rainbow on your brush, put spots of paint across your sample board. Much neater and more controllable.
23:54 The Universe: "Yo, that was karma for subjecting innocent bystanders to ur walking around wearing white socks with the ol flippity floppy flops. Sorry, not sorry."
The rainbow would have worked better with acrylic craft paint... you actually used airbrush paint 😂 still pretty though 😉
I think you absolutely hilarious!! Love your sense of humor
Thank you very much!
that "block " at the top of the bristles is the adhesive they pour to keep the bristles in the brush
Try soaking paint brush in fabric softener. Can also work for varnish brushes.
I love how close you have to get to the canvas in the rainbow paintbrush scene😂 great unexpected laugh this morning thank you
Oh my Lord, you are hilarious! Please make a similar video but like 4 hours long 😂
WOW THANKS!
im definitely trying the pant spray can nozzle. Sometimes I don’t want a wide burst
❤"I should really have a fire extinguisher close by"《shrugs shoulders》YOU HAVE A NEW SUB FROM BOSTON ❤
Dude, thank you. You are extremely funny and also a lot of good information to help my creativity. Thank you very much! You're hilarious!
The wood grain tool I have used for years. It takes a little practice but works awesome.
Coke is the real thing. ❤
Your tips are much needed. I have paint projects going on in every room. Thx!
😎👍
Old autobody / custom paint trick here for pulling tape - now granted I've only done this with auto paint and airbrush - when you peel tape off, don't pull it straight back. Pull the tape back at a 45 degree angle to the tape itself, and it cuts the line cleaner. Don't know about paint going UNDER the tape. That sounds like micro deviations in the surface, or tape that wasn't pressed down hard enough.
great tip!
I got a special place in my heart for silver spray paint.
And it starts with a paper bag.
how do I clean out the spray paint tips? after coming back from vacation I had several cans that are clogged. tips?
Dude, you are such a unique artist. Your creative effectiveness is amazing. Real art can be made by the simple things around you. I applaud you sir.
100%! Thank you so much!
Bottle & paint cans Granny style
Use funnel, pour paint into clean dry soda or Gatorade bottle. Write paint info on wide masking tape, stick to bottle and done. You're welcome.
Wrap dryer sheets around brush and use hotter water and less water so as not to dilute the powers of dryer sheet and it won't work either.
I laughed my a** off watching the bottle glued to the big brush hack. You crack me up. I love watching your videos. Good tips and information are a bonus. 😁
HA!!! Hope you can get it back on!!
Try using a wooden handle paint brush. You're plastic one, had a gap in it.. I think that's why it oozed out on the sides. It should be solid, so the paint has nowhere to go.
Beautiful piece of art work. Since I've been watching your channel I've loved most of the projects that you've done.
❤awesome 😂and it's hilarious learning from you 💕
I love your hack videos. I especially liked the last hack showing how to put the WD40 top onto a spray paint. I wanted to try that myself, and now that I know it works, I can't wait to try it.
Wait what did you say crayons in glue gun… now I am looking for that video. So many ideas.
You will love it! I have 2 of those crayon videos
Always, ALWAYS burnish the painting edge of your tape. Had you burnished with your thumbnail, that bleed would not have happened.
LIquitex is SO expensive!. The only thing you need is a thumbnail and painter's tape. That thin tape is what I'm assuming to be striping tape for cars. The BIGGES trick I can tell you is to use the proper tape. Painter's tape, especially Frog Tape, is formulated to create a barrier when in contact with water, which creates a great barrier to bleeding.
Pin-striping tape is meant for just what it says it is and works really well.
Use the right tape for the right project, or use masking tape and burnish it into the texture of whatever canvas you're using.
I've also masked with both wax paper and saran wrap for spray can painting and it works very well. Why? because you're not using a brush that can push paint under the tape that's holding the wrap or whatever.
Fyi, that also works with acrylic paintings and also on bisque.
I always use my nails to burnish down tape but didnt on purpose just to see how well the hack would work
My dad taught me to clean up the rim of the paint can by using a flathead and a hammer to poke drain holes in the Grove. The paint goes in the rim, and right back into the can.
I didn't find the link to the tape that you used to make the crisp lines and the gesso or whatever product that you put over the tape
Oh no,! The hands are getting hints for spray painting from you!!!!
Hey...I want that eye you made with crayons, I think it's amazing !!!
So much fun to watch your presentations.
Thank you!
OMG!!!!!!!! YOU ARE SO FUNNY. I don't laugh alot and you had me laughing so much!!!! It's so fun watching your videos and learning NEW tricks!!!!!
LOL, glad I converted you into a laugher!
😂😂😂😂 ok this was fun to see!!!
Ive never seen you before, i was so enthralled with your videos. I just wanted to see more and more. I will subscribe now because I learned so much loved your hacks and tips. You have such a great fun demeanor. Thank you for your great tips! I can't wait to see more. Have a wonderful day!❤❤❤
Wow what a great compliment! That really helps and means a lot to me!!
I'm happy it helps. Love the video ❤❤
How about an instruction vid. on transferring colour images from magazines / calenders on to car / motorcycle panels ???
I was taught by a pro painter to use a hammer and a 2” common nail to hammer about 6-10 holes evenly spaced around the lip of a paint can after it’s been opened and then when you pour or use paint out of the can, the paint that collects in the lip will drain back INTO the paint can via those holes and the paint will dry and seal up those holes within an hour tops (So you need the hole big enough to let the over flow collecting in the lip to drain back into the can but NOT SO BIG that the paint that does drain back in won’t seal the holes as the paint dries.
It works like a damn AND, not a single one of my paint cans has paint running down the side of it nor have I wasted a drop and those holes seal up so the paint does NOT go dry. It’s a WIN for sure.
One of the best ‘hacks’ for lack of a better term as that really is a dumb word, for painting that I have learned.
There are some good ones on here too though so don’t be sad Duncan. You are doing great!👍🏻 ❤
Ah cool I have never heard of that before
I was taught the same trick and it does work. I never open a paint can without punching around the inside grove of the can. I also store paint cans upside down to prevent the skin from forming and keeps the paint fresher. Love your channel man!
Great Video, Thanks for sharing and putting a smile on my face. Your talent goes beyond painting lol
I believe you can use mod poge for crisp lines as well..
Great video thanks for sharing ❤
Lmao🤣 😂 Love how funny u are! Hillarious! I literally laughed out loud at "what happened here? Did you get tired or something?" comment bout the orange n yellow. I do enjoy ur videos largely for how funny u are.... and maybe a lil bit attractive....🙄 Lol
For real though enjoy ur vids and how silly n real u keep things while making them. Keep up the good wrk and great and fun content. Big 👍👍
Thanks so much Stacy! I love that you get my humor, lol!!
thanks for the tricks & hacks - love watching you - will be trying your tips (tricks) love watching you
Thank you so much!
I know you can get paint off of metal hinges etc. in a crockpot so maybe you can put the paint brushes in a crockpot?
I'm going to try that! First, I'll have to go to a thrift store & find an old crock pot!
Love the WD 40 hack as the sprayer. Thanks!
I work with some hacks, but you’ll appreciate me NOT sending them to you.
lol!
We want to see!
For the paint brush with hard dried paint use hand sanitizer in a ziploc bag
if you pull the tape off at an angle to the surface, (vs directly as you did) it is MUCH easier !!
I never can remember which way is best - lol - I was literally thinking that while I was pulling the tape!
the bottle on the brush is good for. painting your front porch! But I bet the bristles come out.
I was surprised that no bristles came out , I really thought it would be a mess of paintbrush hairs, lol
