"That's just the V6...its nothing special" - is what I heard growing up. Boy were those folks wrong! Please enjoy the incredible sounds of this rare 206 GT and forgive me for being tongue tied saying 206 Dino GT in the intro.

TBH, we always remember the sound of Lancia Stratos with this similar engine as amazing, so no wonder this one sounds just as good. However, this is no ordinary V6, as it's 65 degrees angle, and have a crankshaft with separate crankpins like a boxer.

@@TedwardDrives Ted, I have to give you a lot of credit for your skills. I've been carrying a Class A CDL for about 50 years and matching gears matters! It's a sad thing that auto-boxes are the standard of the day and most people think that's just fine. They just don't realize what they're missing... but we do!
I spent a few years in sales in a Ferrari shop "in another lifetime" and we had a 246 in the shop awaiting a replacement head for what seemed like forever. Even in 1990, parts were hard to come by and anything coming from Italy took forever plus a couple of years!! A suggestion that might make the "special" Italian steering wheels a bit easier to live with comes from driving quite few way back when. People always seemed to comment that the steering wheel was so uncomfortable in a Ferrari or Fiat or just about any Italian car. If you take your seat and get comfortable and then forget the "10 & 2 position" that the old driving instructors used to demand. Move your hands down to about "8 & 4" and push the wheel up and down as necessary instead of pulling it. It feels right and works just fine. You don't get worn out trying to stretch so far and I enjoyed the ride much more!

The 206 only existed due to Italian Tax Laws at the time, as cars with engines 2 litres capacity or smaller were much cheaper to tax than cars over 2 litres in capacity and they were all made in 1968. The engine was also used in the Fiat Dino coupe and spider (around 4700 made between 1966 and 1969), though the engine was in the front.

206 exist because of Formula 2 homologation requirement. FIA regulations at the time stated that F2 race engines had to be based on production car engines and in order to homologate the race engine 500 road cars powered by that unit has to be produced within 12 months (65-66). Ferrari being a small manufacturer didn't have the capacity to do so and hence came into an agreement with Fiat for the production of the engines and development of road cars. But yes Italian 2.0L tax threshold did exist for the domestic market.

Oh jeeeeez, the 206!!!! You man are THE BEST!!!!! Where did you find one??? Also in G R E E N and with an original (Catania, Sicily) number plate!!! Such a BEAUTIFUL car!!!

Thank you for that music symphony! When cars had a infotainment of sights, sounds, feels and smells! Didn’t realize that the 206 was that different and better than the later. Maybe next drive is an aluminum bodied 308? Not as exciting as the 206 but interesting none the less. Phenomenal drive! 🎉

Ahem, as I can tell, there was just one aluminium-bodied 308 GT4, chassis 8020, made for Luigi Chinetti's NART racing team to race at Le Mans. It's a pure race car built to race at Le Mans.... Apart from that, the 308 GT4 was steel bodied. The 308GTB was initially GRP and then became steel bodied.

I could listen to that thing rev through a fast and the furious gearbox forever.

The 120 degree firing order means this V6 has the same sonorous wail as the Colombo V12. I can't get enough of it.

The exhaust note is sheer music !
...also the cars handling appears to be good , but I wished the driver pushed it harder to enjoy the car !

I think that this is what Lotus were thinking when they brought out the S1 Elise... The styling and the handling were there unfortunately the engine was not.. Beautiful Dino 206 GT.. Absolute legend.

This car is for me a reference for the current z4Supra, which needs a scoop-delete styling option. Hopefully one day you will get to drive the Opel GT from the same era (~1970) as this Dino.
