I ran a high volume auto repair shop in Chicago. If one of my employees treated a customer's car like that, the first thing I would do is fire him. The second thing I would do is fix the guy's stereo for free. The fact that the shop called this attempt at remediation "extortion" demonstrates the owner's mindset. Sue him now! What a 🐷.

The best thing to do is take your car to a dealership and before your car runs out of warranty get extended warranty. But it's not right to take someone's car for a joy ride and abuse someone's car if you're the mechanic working on the vehicle. In this incident trust had been broken so this repair shop didn't live up to its end of the bargain. If the guy that runs that shop is backing out of the verbal agreement after he saw the video. Than he needs to be taken to court before Judge Judy he needs to be talking down to by her on TV. That sort of thing is bad for business.

The guy took my car on a 100 mile road trip to get drugs, all on camera haha. It was kind of pathetic really.

They won't be extorted? I'd say the car owner should sue them for damages, legal fees, and additional damages to quality of life. Any car owner that has had dealings with this Garage should double check everything in their car and any cam footage if they have cams installed. Any court in the US would look at that video and hold The Wrench liable for all damages and laws broken.

This happened to me. I have a 2017 Scat Pack Charger, and a dealership employee took the car to 129 mph. I didn't have a camera, so there was no way to prove it. But the speed was recorded on the Performance Pages. I'd never had the car over 117 mph, but after a warranty repair, the reading was suddenly 129 mph. I informed the dealership management, despite a lack of evidence. They were quite nice about it and gave me a year of free oil changes, tire balance and rotations, etc.

While they "work to figure out if the damage was caused by them" I'd slap them with a large lawsuit to teach them a lesson since they could have already paid for the damaged electronics (and new tires!).

When you drop off your car to get work done you are authorizing them to drive your car on public roads. We have no idea what he went to the shop for the first time, but most vehicles will be test driven afterwards. Also, the "Italian tune up" is a real thing, especially with direct injection, which most late model vehicles use.

Can a dash cam video of going 113 mph (I would think endangering the public) cause an arrest? Can it cause arrest for the owner, since the guy was on duty? It seems clear to everyone except the owner that this sound system was blown out by the employee's actions.
