Jeremiah Bannister has an awesome series on that book here on YT. The Counter Reformers were heavy hitters. Just like the comment above suggested, Patristic Pillars is great, Catholic Brothers, Classic Christianity (Erick Ybarra), Sam Shamoun is great, there's tons.

      I've noticed that when Catholics do Community outreach/charity they do not talk about THEIR Church & THEIR beliefs in practice. They talk about the Christian faith, lean more to Scripture, praying with others & giving spiritual counsel...
      --Other denominations talk more specifically about their Church's views, how their Church worships & practices the faith, while giving prayers & counsel as well.
      --I think it's all great; if you're inviting ppl to your Church you should tell them what to expect, greet the newcomers(you don't have to stop Mass; step aside & welcome a new face or explain what & why), & introduce them around a bit more.
      --Not everyone comes early & lingers afterwards. I have tons of questions at every new Church I attend. No one has any questions for the Catholic, bcuz they're convinced they know all about us!!!

      It's crazy that we are still arguing this within Jesus believing faiths. Imagine a post tribulation (hypothetical) apocalyptic world and between dodging evil and moving through trenches to save souls, we argue amongst eachother over bread and wine actually transforming or who should be married and who shouldn't. We share the most important necessity. Christ first and foremost. The rest is extra-faith or non essential faith practice. And yet we spend more time arguing over specifics and not evangelizing or winning over souls for the Lord.

      I think it’s incredibly dangerous to be apathetic towards doctrines of the church. If these doctrines divide us it’s because the implications and logical end of said doctrines distinguish us. To be undistinguishable and to fall complacent concerning what constitutes the true church is something that cannot happen. If that is the case, oneness Pentecostals, trinitarians, Aryans, Nestrorians, pelagians, sibellians, baptists, Presbyterians, Lutherans, all claim to follow Christ but disagree on the way in which to worship Him. Catholics and orthodox have one distinguishable doctrine that unites us against all others and that is the Eucharist, which we hold to be “the source and summit of our Faith”. This is a hill we will gladly die on.

    My boss once asked me, “Why can’t I receive Communion in the Catholic Church?” My question to him was, Why do you want to receive the Holy Communion in the Catholic Church?
    I mean, if you do not believe it to be the body, blood, soul & divinity of our Lord, then would it not be blasphemy for you to receive (from his point of view)? And if the Eucharist is truly what Christ tells us in sacred Scripture about the Eucharist being true food and true drink, and anyone who eats and drinks of it, has eternal life, why would he/you want to continue to go to his/your Church and receive the counterfeit (mere symbol). But, Scripture also warns us about receiving unworthily and this should be recognized by both Catholics and Protestants alike.
    Too many Catholic Christians approach to receive Holy Eucharist when maybe we should not. We should reconcile with our Lord first. It is like a relationship between a husband and a wife. There is intimacy in Holy Communion, but if we have done something to hurt our relationship with the one we love, there needs to be healing, before there can be intimacy once again. Even if the wife forgives the husband before he makes an act of reconciliation, if he is not repentant and formally apologizes (the Sacrament of Reconciliation) intimacy is less fruitful, because there has not yet been an outpouring of humility & grace, allowing healing in the relationship to take place.

      Baltimore Catechism: * Q. 368. Does he who knowingly receives Holy Communion in mortal sin receive the body and blood of Christ and His graces?
      A. He who knowingly receives Holy Communion in mortal sin receives the body and blood of Christ, but he does not receive His graces and commits a grave sin of sacrilege.
      * To receive Holy Communion unworthily is a serious abuse of the sacred body and blood of the Lord, and therefore a sacrilege.31
      * See Scripture, question 367, 1 Corinthians 11:23-34.⬇️
      Q. 367. What is necessary to receive Holy Communion worthily?
      A. To receive Holy Communion worthily it is necessary to be free from mortal sin, to have a right intention and to obey the Church's laws on the fast required before Holy Communion out of reverence for the body and blood of Our Divine Lord. However, these are some cases in which Holy Communion may be received without fasting.
      * Venial sin does not make us unworthy of receiving Holy Communion; but it does prevent us from receiving the more abundant graces and blessings which we would otherwise receive from Holy Communion.
      * > "For I myself have received from the Lord (what I also delivered to you), that the Lord Jesus, on the night in which he was betrayed, took bread, and giving thanks broke, and said, 'This is my body which shall be given up for you; do this in remembrance of me.' In like manner also the cup, after he had supped, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as you shall eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord, until he comes.'
      * > Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily, will be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. But let a man prove himself, and so let him eat of that bread and drink of the cup; for he who eats and drinks unworthily, without distinguishing the body, eats and drinks judgment to himself. This is why many among you are infirm and weak, and many sleep. But if we judged ourselves, we should not thus be judged. But when we are judged, we are being chastised by the Lord that we may not be condemned with this world. Wherefore, my brethren, when you come together to eat, wait for one another. If anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, lest you come together unto judgment. The rest I shall set in order when I come" (1 Corinthians 11:23-34).

    I was born and raised in the Byzantine Catholic Church. Like the Chaldeans, many of our priests are married and have kids. Also, a lot of people think Catholic is only Roman/Latin, that simply isnt the case, and to me is more proof that we are in fact the one true church as we have different rites all over the world that are all in communion and have apostolic succession.

    Ruslan/Zach, Thank you for having Fr Simon on! What an incredible and holy spirit filled priest! I just converted to Catholicism and it breaks my heart how many lies continue to be spread about the Catholic Church. Catholics and Protestants have so much more in common than most realize. You having the conversation with strong, solid, knowledgeable Catholics is what will clear up so many of these lies. Listening to this podcast filled my heart with so much joy!!! I tell my Protestant family and friends I want them to convert not because I think they’re wrong but I want to invite them into the fullness and incredible beauty I get to experience now. I think they both have issues and demonizing 1 or the other instead of the questionable elements of each is wrong. Either way no matter what branch you are you have to surrender and acknowledge that you can do nothing to earn salvation. It's hard to keep this perspective and keep holiness and progression in it in the right light. Gets tricky. Gotta give Jesus credit for any and all of your holiness even when YOU decide to go to confession or partake in grace at the moment too acknowledge we are dead to sin etc even that act is a Grace given by the Father through Jesus. It's an action he puts into your heart and your obedience is a symbol of love for him and not for salvation.

As me who grew up Presbyterian later Baptist I always took communion and in a weird way waited for something to happen or would be scared to leave crumbs/drops etc. it was later when I learned about what the Eucharist means and is and represents I realized I internally had some of this primitive spiritual understanding. Personally I read John 6 and the commentaries of St. Ignatius and Polycarp against the gnostic docetists and found it extremely plain and convincing. I’d say also the apostolic understanding is that “do this in memory of me” is not an either/or scenario of it a symbolic or literal dichotomy. It is a both/and dichotomy where it is literally Jesus Christs flesh as well as a symbol of covenant. Hope that helps

So while yes it is a miracle, there would be nothing to verify. Unless you are speaking of eucharistic miracles, which are rare but have been scientifically verified. I encourage you to look into the cases of eucharistic, i believe there was one in Argentina where a desecrated eucharist became flesh after the priest put it in water in order to dispose of it, it was tested and if i remember correctly the scientist who was examining it was an atheist and became a Christian after and entered the Church.

    I think it’s important when talking about works to distinguish baptism and the other sacraments of the church. These sacraments arent something that you DO. They are done unto you. You can’t baptize yourself, you receive baptism. You don’t take the Eucharist, you receive the Eucharist, for “he gives” his body and blood.
    And good works sanctifying the soul is very scriptural, as it is written “charity covers a multitude of sins”.

    • @Migler1
      @Migler1 2 місяці тому +1

      A more contextual and, frankly, more accurate translation is “love covers a multitude of sins”, meaning when we love our brothers and sisters, we actual do what 1 Corinthians‬ ‭12‬:‭23‬-‭24 says:
      ‬ ”and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it”.
      ‭‭

    • @LayRule
      @LayRule 2 місяці тому

      @@Migler1 and yet, it covers sins. For the blood of Christ sanctified us, and yet still we participate in the suffering of Christ, for “we fill up what is lacking” for who? “For the sake of the church”. And yet it is not only I who’s covering, but others, and it is not only I who am covered but others. Charity is synonymous with love, I don’t think there is any confusion amidst the dichotomous translations presented by me nor you, but rather what it does actually mean. Yet why would my good works only sanctify the soul who has thus received them? Would they not also be rewarded by Him who inspires and has so “prepared us for good works”? As it is written ““But I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first charity. Be mindful therefore from whence thou art fallen: and do penance, and do the first works. Or else I come to thee, and will move thy candlestick out of its place, except thou do penance.”
      ‭‭Apocalypse‬ ‭2‬:‭4‬-‭5‬
      And yet are not these works which we work that form of penance which He bids us do? So as to receive the end of such a command that is to say “the fruit of the tree of life”?

    Worship is sacrifice, giving God what is due. Many Protestants don't worship at all. Prayer is not worship, reading the Bible is not worship, preaching is not worship.

    Worship in the Catholic Church is the way God tells us is pleasing to him (read the first few chapters of Revelation) which is always better than the ways that we come up with, absent any framework.

    Ruslan, I enjoy your content and must give you props for your charity for actually listening to Father Simon and not trying to debate him. Takes a lot of humility. I’m a Catholic and appreciate you trying to undercover the truth of the Catholic faith through good dialogue. I hope you continue to look into the Eucharist and the fullness of the truth 🙏🏼

    To Ruslan’s question about Israel and basically about dispensationalism, the Catholic/Orthodox position is that we cannot be dispensationalists. The idea of dispensationalism is a Protestant invention in the last couple hundred years.

      Yet he affirmed God still had a unique chosen for Israel 🫠
      Dispensationlist vs covenant is a false binary.

      @@RuslanKD Romans 9:6-8
      6 Not as though the word of God has fallen. For not all these who are of Israel are Israel. 7 Neither because they are the seed of Abraham are they all children. But rather, “in Isaac shall your seed be called.” 8 That is, the children of the flesh - these are not the children of God. But rather, the children of the promise are considered for seed.
      Just because God has a plan for certain Jews in the end-times, does not mean we as Christians are obligated to unconditionally support the modern day secular state of Israel as well as the actions of Jews in Israel.

      @@ThriftyConceit yep! The church is denifinately gotten more friendly toward Jews over the last century but traditionally cannot be dispensational. Even the canons of the council of Nicaea literally says that Christians shouldn’t even talk to Jews.

      I think you can hold to the church is God’s people. While acknowledging that God also chose Israel and “all Israel will be saved” per Romans 11
      It says nothing about “certain Jews” In Romans 11. Please do add or read your theology into the scripture. It should be the other way around

    God gave us Jesus ; Jesus gave us the Catholic Church and the catholic church gave us the Bible . We as Catholics respect scripture and the church and its authority . Protestants mass is no different than attending a TED TALK .

      I'm confused about that eucharist comment. Someone help me because as Presbyterians we go through confirmation classes, baptism and all that to participate in Holy Communion. What then makes it 'less full' ?

    • @Pear1sb4sw1ne
      @Pear1sb4sw1ne 2 місяці тому

      From my understanding it's about who administers the mass, of which communion is a part of. Because the Catholic church does not recognize that Protestant pastors have been confirmed through the line of apostolic succession, they do not give "valid" mass (communion) and our communion isn't a real communion in which we receive God. I think. That was my takeaway, haha.
