- During the infamous Battle of the Bulge in 1944, a young army nurse stays behind during an evacuation, where she is thrown into a situation in which a soldier's life depends on her ability to act quickly.
The Army Nurse is an independent short film written, directed, and shot by Ryan Margetts (@rygetts)
www.tigertrapmedia.com
This film was created as an entry for the Aputure Light This Location international short film competition, with the following rules:
- Must be shot all in one location
- Must use LIGHTING in a creative way to tell the story
- Must include the word "accent" somehow
- Must be 5 minutes long (obviously this version is 11 min, so a 5 minute version was made and submitted to the competition. The 11 minute version shows the full story).

It's actually fairly normal for a patient to be laughing even though they may be in immense pain. Everyone deals with pain differently.
Thank you! It was a key character choice.
I'm a current Nursing student, and I aspire to join the National Guard. I got to tell ya, this is pure gold from heaven, ww2 nurses dont get recognized enough, brave ladies they where.
iann martinez I couldn’t agree more, they were the first nurses to serve on the front lines of a war. As I researched for this I was so humbled and inspired by all the stories I read of how brave they were. Thanks for watching and good luck in nursing school! Thank you for choosing such an important profession!
join the NG now! your nursing school will be paid for 100% and youre non deployable for 2 years
Listen to Vietnam War U.S. nurses interviews here on UA-cam. Many break into tears telling you their stories.
The only issue I’m having is that no matter how many times I hit the Like button, it only registers as one Like. This footage is the perfect balance of crispy and smooth. Well done!
Tim Baker thank you so much! It really means a lot
World Nurses Day 2020 Congratulations to all nurses who serve regardless of caste, religion, language and gender.
Wish all nurse's should be given adequate compensation are the primary players to fight Coro
With livelihood all the best ♥️♥️♥️♥️
That looks amazing! I think you sealed it for me, I've been on the fence about this camera. Bravo on a great job!
Gorgeous lighting and frame work!!!
I aspire to be this good at filming! You're on a roll Ryan! If you keep it up you'll be one of the top directors in no time!
Thank you Zachary! That really means a lot to me! Every project is a new lesson and I'm trying to keep growing and learning and mastering the craft until someone will pay me to do this full time! :)
Tiger Trap Media You are not far off if not already at that point! Keep at it!
So good! Great storytelling, great visuals, great acting and directing. You should be very proud!
Jason Parmer thanks so much man!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
thank you
Excellent!
Wow! This is amazing!
The last thing you do in a trauma is give them water. Her finding the 2nd wound that was more severe too late, is why we cut off all the clothes first. If he had lost soooo much blood there would be more proof of it and he wouldn't be able to sit up hours later. The best ww2 nurses book out there is " If I perish".
No one is up and laughing after one let a lone 2 amputations with no meds.
Splendid work mate! Everything pro and the level of skill top notch. Bravo!
Ben Em thanks! And thank you for watching

@@ryanmargetts Dude, I hope I have the skills you have one day! Like I can not tell you how bad I wish this could become a full movie! Amazing man! I have watched this like five times!
Great

Creative Neil thanks for watching!
Hello everyone!
I am really confused in choosing between Sony a6600, a6400, Black Magic Pocket 4K with having a budget up to 1200$. I am new in this area & wishing to make short films with the same Hollywood Cinematic effects.
I have 400 $ budget for the lens.
Appreciate your useful suggestions.
Niceeee
Wow,this could be a mini series
Well I'd like to see who if anyone is beating this
Good work
KARLIE MORRISMUSIC thank you so much for the kind words!
What lens for Anamorphic view?
🤘
It is easy to measure the impact and effectiveness of a short film. Just count the tears coming down your face. I give this a 10, for ten tears.
Absolutely stunning, this looks like it could be a Hollywood film. Is it uploaded anywhere other than UA-cam? I ask because it's so heavily compressed here that it reduces some of the beauty of the shots.
SCtester thanks you so much for the kind words! It really means a lot! Unfortunately it’s not anywhere else online, and I agree, the prores master file looks soooo much better without all the UA-cam compression but not a lot of options 🤷🏻♂️
Yes, yes, and yes!
Thanks for watching!
@@ryanmargetts How much fps, shutter, iso, wb, and tint did you use on the camera ❓🤔🤔
sweeet
JUST WOW!
Seriously, there is everything right in this short! Great story - well played and exelent filmed!
I just miss the filmic motion blur ;/
@@js_filming7701 Thank you! I'm not sure about the motion blur bc it's all shot 24fps 180 degree shutter
@@ryanmargetts Hmm that´s strange....
Well Done! Was any promist filtration used on the lens? or any grain added in post? Thanks
I was goin to use promist but decided to not use any filtration or post grain
Cool seeing #CurtisJudd in the credits, good sound.
He's the best! So great to have him on the crew.
Very good work, I think the color grading can help a little more but anyway it is a very good job, congratulations many successes
Thanks!
Fantastic job!!! We know, how hard is it to make such a short film. Has a wonderful filmlook. We also shoot at the Moment, but had to stop it for a couple of weeks due this crisis. 😔 But we start again soon. In between, we also bought this cam. Did you film in Q5 (Constant Quality) or 5:1 (Constant Bitrate)? And... Wich Tiffen was it? The 1/8 or 1/4 Blackmist? We have both here. Think I should take the 1/8. Hmmm. Or? Is the 1/4 to much. Eben with haze?
We wish you lot's of success for the future. See you on the next festivals... 😍😍😍
BEST Pictures thanks you so much!! Thanks for watching. I shot this in Q5 if I remember right, and no promist filter! Couldn’t get my hands on one in time for the shoot.
This is an awesome short. Congrats...what did you use for the sound?
Thank you! I hired Curtis Judd to do sound for this one, I'm not sure what gear he used to be perfectly honest. He's 6'5 and was able to crouch in that little tent to boom the actors though! :)
Tiger Trap Media definitely film festival material 💪💪
was this shot in raw this looks good
PLATFORM 7 MEDIA yes, BRAW at 5:1 if I’m remembering right. Thanks for the kind words!
this shit was fye
Very well done! I saw something about a BTS, on the closing credits. Is there a BTS video? If so, is it here on UA-cam?
A important question i must ask. This was not shot 24fps @ a °180 degree shutter angle Correct?, Correct me if I'm wrong. Was it shot at 60fps?.it appears to be shot at a Higher Then 24fps.
Thanx.
Good work.
D.
The entire thing is shot with 180 degree shutter angle at 24 fps, except for the slow motion explosion scene, shot at 180 degree shutter angle 60 fps.
@PRIVATE What is that technique?
I thought the exact same thing. The shutter couldn't have been 1/50
@Arvid Kracht
WALHAT!??
ua-cam.com/video/5dwTKd_fDuU/v-deo.html
@Arvid Kracht without a proper explanation this "sensor filmic cadence" is plain bullshit. Anyone can say anything that sounds fancy without backing it up. Or maybe you didn't choose your words right because cadence is rhythm. The cinematic rhythm is given by the editing not by the focken sensor.
clip 1:10 was it shot with the Canon 135mm f/2
PLATFORM 7 MEDIA yes, if I remember right
@@ryanmargetts thank you
Did you shot it on 400 iso ?
I can't remember but probably
This doc already knew about the pandemic guys
When was the 135mm used? ッ
Tommy Owen most of the CU shots
why no stab at 07:53 ?????
A stab was scripted, we were extremely rushed by that point in the shoot and the shot was forgotten! I'm bummed we didn't get it too
Respect ✊🏾
Amazing job ,
When can we see BTS video ?
I hope to see how u light it
Thanks for watching! A BTS will be coming in the near future
Tiger Trap Media I’m waiting , 💪🏾
Tiger Trap Media I’m waiting
If I had the capabilities to give you an award I'd would, beings though I can't, i will offer to compose music for your next film free of charge. Message me back
That’s my sister I love you Mary see you later
Your sister is super talented and a great person!
There's something about the lack of motion blur in a lot of this that makes it feel a little off.
Yeah it looks very digital. Do you think that's because of the camera or the settings?
I don’t know what to tell ya man, shot in 24fps 180 shutter angle
@@ryanmargetts Huh! Maybe we're just seeing things that aren't there. Would you mind if I asked how the process was of funding the short and how you obtained all the costumes, props, set, etc.?
@@LordJagd This was extremely low budget, I essentially wanted to pay my actors and crew and feed them, I put together an IndieGoGo campaign to raise $4,000. We ended up only raising about $3,000. I obtained all the costumes, props, set, etc. by myself by shopping at antique shops, military surplus stores, and borrowing as much as I could from friends/coworkers. The tent was loaned to me by a coworker, thank God! But I basically had enough to pay everyone and pay myself back for a FEW of the costumes/props haha. We shot the whole thing in one day.
I wonder if it's UA-cam compression? Idk just an idea.
She gave up fast as hell...lmao.
haha she was stressed idk
di rumah
This is astoundingly inaccurate
Oh sorry I forgot to ask people like you who were there.
@@ryanmargetts or you could do the borderline amount of research. Authenticity aside, the cinematography is really nice.
@@ryanmargetts bruh why you so pressed, because he’s right?
I have to agree with Sam, this was pretty cringe and not well researched.
