I know there was an old superstition about not having more than one door open at a time, but I hadn't seen one about doors being partially open. I would assume it's because a closed door is protection, an open door is an opportunity, but a partially open door is a mystery - an opportunity for the unseen to enter...?

This was excellent, I really enjoyed it. I found it to be really unique and the two actors portrayed their roles very well. I've watched a lot of short horror films, and this one was certainly entertaining. It kept you really guessing too. At first, I thought her uncle had OCD but then I said to myself "Well then they wouldn't have titled this film The Door, so there must be a good reason for it." It really kept me intrigued though and I kept wondering what exactly does happen if you left a door half open or half shut, strange but I'm sure I will see soon enough. The ending was unfortunate and very creepy. Great job! Thank you for sharing your story and I look forward to seeing more of your future projects.

For someone so obsessed with doors, he curiously doesn't mind trusting the word of his niece who obviously doesn't care much.
Great professional production, great acting, interesting plot, very good horror. 10 seconds of substance at the very end, to wrap it all up with a pretty bow, wouldn't hurt though 😉. Very good. I greatly enjoyed it. Love the cabin.
Very interesting concept. Kudos to everyone involved. The atmosphere was perfect. Great camera work and lighting. The acting was spot on, the score set the tone. Overall it was a great production from script to post.

From her perspective, that could have been her uncle rattling the door to check it was shut, as he did the first night she arrived. Man, people like you somehow genuinely think you're the smartest people on the room, while missing the most obvious things.

I would say the house is not very safe. Perhaps, the uncle should consider moving.

Everything about this video was well done. the acting, the cabin, the short hints about doors needing to be closed. I especially liked the woman's acting. She drew you right into her fears. BUT! how could anyone not keep up with the admonishment to not leave the door open or partially closed, etc. Especially since her uncle is working with "Porch light's on--no one's home" kind of mentality. And, I'm sorry, you gotta give us a bit more plot as to what the ending meant. Is it just that the blue man (whoever the hell he is?) got her finally? Why? what happens? Maybe they're planning a surprise/slasher bday party? I don't know, as a writer I just expect more as far as plot.
Definitely a springboard for a feature film. Good work!!!

Not quite sure on the fire & cigarette he was referring to but i will assume that;s what started the fire that killed the family or at least what i take was the guy in the closet coming for them if they failed to do what he told her right off the bat. They never learn till it's to late. I thought the film was a good ghost story with an evil or revengeful ending. Good atmosphere & his descent into madness was from his guilt & as he tells her why she's also there it does make sense & as we all know evil just doesn't care when it wants revenge enve it it may have been a mistake . Very well done & to the point. Like so many of Alters independent filmmakers we are left to wonder what happened to the man in the end & what really happened concerning the fire & cigarette he spoke of plus did the man in the closet save her by drawing her in from what she saw come through the front door or is it now her turn to be the house owner. Love it, we really don't know .

Thank God she is not a Filipina.With crazy door locks and a lunatic uncle like that, she would have run out of that house as fast as she can. In our country, no matter what, nobody could have run out of a friend or somebody with whom she can stay, worse comes to worse. 😄

I like the theme of this film simply because the concepts of doors are interesting but I salute my hat off to her because I cant stay in a house with someone who has an obessession for Doors cause its not that serious. I honestly think that man has mental issues but the theme is awsome.

Paul is very dramatic, probably does theatre acting on the weekends, trying to impress his niece but got too into the character bless.
But seriously was cement coloured man supposed to be scary. The concept is a lot more scarier it would’ve worked better with no explicit monster reveal but it it is a short movie.

Excelente. Este cortometraje de aparente simpleza aprovecha muy bien sus recursos y cumple muy bien con lo que un cuento de terror debe hacer: Apuntar a los miedos internos. Toda persona que posee un TOC cree que si deja de hacer aquello que le obsesiona puede ocurrir algo terrible, pues bien, muchas personas poseemos esas creencias y aquí los miedos se vuelven reales. Además esta es una historia totalmente abierta y se expande más allá de los 12 minutos que dura el cortometraje. Muy bueno el concepto de la entidad que aparece detrás de la puerta, no hay maquillaje de sangre , ni máscaras, ni rostros deformes, al contrario, es un hombre que en lugar de tener un rostro malévolo tiene un rostro limpio pero con una expresión que parece ser de desesperación o sufrimiento terrible. Le idea de presentarlo desprovisto de color también es muy interesante como también el detalle de la marca o herida en sus manos. Por otra parte el nivel de actuación es excelente. Qué más se puede pedir?…. solo disfrutar (o sufrir) con el video. Todos los premios que ha ganado están muy bien otorgados.

Brilliant! Really plays on the fear of dentist in such an original way while paying tribute to Grimm's tales (unless I'm mistaken on the Grimm reference, I was too entertained to Google first ha!) Bravo all involved! I'm never going to the dentist again! 😅

Wow! That was good and creepy and what happened to Uncle Paul? It's her fault.She came into his home and left a door open. She only took it seriously when it was too late and the house demon got her.ALL doors closed or open meant just that.

the real horror of this movie is her inability to follow incredibly clear directions
It seems like in all these horror movies were there is a rule to follow or demons or ghosts will get you the person dosnt explain the importance of the rules. If I lived in a house like that and one of you guys came over I would spend like an hour clearly warning you about the rules and the full consequences if you do not follow them.
That's probably a safe bet. If humans were more logical it might work 🤣
Absolutely. A very common element. In another I recently saw, a man is house-sitting for a friend. The friend leaves a note telling him not to turn off the lights at night. That's it. Well, of course he doesn't, and a dark figure comes and rips him to pieces. The entire story would not have happened but for a better explanation from a friend genuinely wanting their friend not to be endangered. I know these are "just" short horror stories, but a little versimilitude goes a long way.
I would like a movie with this concept.

This was well shot and well enacted. It seems to be lacking a story line. That's not necessarily a criticism of the short. Many of the horror shorts on UA-cam have this in common. Perhaps the point of video shorts is simply to create scenarios rather than a story, at least in the horror genre.
Many shorts I've done have tried to be mini features, but by design they just can't be that. They end up overly long and expositiony. I'm leaning into showing details and letting the audience fill in the story in their own minds. Thanks for watch and insightful comment!
@@FroVideo That's what I thought. After seeing a few of these, I am modifying my expectations to suit the format. I suspect that horror shorts in particular can be hard to capture a story because you're trying to spend time immersed in the details of the moment. Otherwise, it's just not scary.
I've just made a feature which is in post production and honestly I didn't fully understand shorts until I completed something in a longer format. You can spend much more time developing a character in a feature. In a short you have to dive right in or lose your audience. I judged a film festival this year and the standout shorts were 2 and 3 minutes long respectively
@@andrewhancock2451 the "backstory" is given from about the 4 minute to 6 minute mark. It's a film that's very powerful and I think that those are the only words for a backstory that are really needed here
Scenario of story.... I agree. Many responses have offered the excuse that the short story form doesn't really allow it, but I think that element simply separates the typical from the exceptional. Too often have I been brought into the mood of the picture and tempted by a backstory only to be left saying "huh?" In the present case, I at first presumed that "keeping the doors closed" was a metaphor for putting the past behind you. Both characters seem tortured, after all, by some past trauma. But the warning (always insufficient, by the way, given the stakes) was to keep the door either closed or open - "nothing in between". Obviously, the distinction mattered to the filmmaker, but it's just not clear why. It was tense moment with the figure reaching through the door for her, but there is no clue who the figure was, or whether his identify was even important. And the end, of course, was a jump scare of the the same ending most short horror films. I don't have to have everything explained, but I at least want to be convinced that the filmmaker has a story and rules in mind.
