"Only a psychotic would do that, leave the house unlocked with a note on the door?!" Robert Downey Jr is so funny in this. I love his animating acting here. Also, Keanu Reeves seems way more expressive back then. Seriously love this movie. Top notch. For anyone that hasn't read the book, i highly recommend it. Also, A Waking Life from this director is super trippy and philosophical. It was filmed in this technique, but then they had a bunch of different artists also draw over each frame, progressively making it tripper as the movie goes on.
I'm currently reading through the book for the first time, and I'm so relieved that most of this dialogue is lifted straight from the pages. So far very impressed by the fealty to the source material.
Yep, I agree, the characters are so bold! (I don't think much of Donna, though.) And Keanu Reeves looks like he lacks character a little bit, but he did a good job playing confusion and searching for identity. This might well be his best role.
@Trademark21 it makes sense though. reeves's character seems like a doornail through the whole thing because they show towards the end that he's pretty much a huge oblivious tool. sad truth.
Your not stupid, its a common mistake, perhaps you had Robert Downey on the brain. I just clarified in respect of Hunter, as he is no longer with us, and can't clarify for himself. Rest In Peace.
A dear friend of mine had the honor of interviewing Hunter S Thompson for articles he wrote for Spin and Rolling Stone magazines. Kevin Simonson spent quality time with Hunter and this is why I know his name, Kevin taught me lots about the man, prior to his suicide death. Johnny Depp made sure Hunters wishes happened, which were for his ashes to be shot from a cannon.
Interesting to note: I live in Orange County, and the image in the side window is Irvine while the image in the rear window is Santa Ana, about 10 miles apart.
HaHa Californians, in particular Southern Californians are obsesssed with their urban geography, my family all grew up there. and the arguements about directions and locations are epic.
it blows my mind how the sum scenes of this movie can only, in all fairness, be called merely a 'good', or maybe, 'very good' movie, yet when one sits down and watches the isolated scenes one by one, the majority of them are utterly brilliant. i take a bit of pride in my versatility in knowing the history of movies across many nations, yet i can't think of a single other movie in which the above-mentioned was the case. anybody here know what i mean?
This part is better in the movie than it is in the book becuase it is funnier and in the book he wrote "Come on in Donna the doors unlocked" which is not as funny as just "Come on in the doors unlocked
I freaking love Woody's face when he says "What if they stomped the animals!?"
Draigan Wheeler a perfectly rational question
In the book all junkies love animals. They have a whole bunch of stray cats and dogs they saved from near death.
the greatest Woody line ever "What if they come through the back door or the bathroom window like that infamous Beatles song?"
This film was ahead of its time how it was filmed is ingenious
This is Keanu Reeves best performance truly phenomenal
"No, no. No. Yes... But no. But yes..." I'm stealing that line. I know it'll come in handy. Might take twenty years, but still.
It needs to become a meme.
"Only a psychotic would leave the door unlocked with a note on it!"
"What did you write on the note?"
"The door is unlocked, come on in."
"Come on in, the doors unlocked" I'm dying!! Ahahahaha!!
And the face he's making and the tone of his voice, it's brilliant.
"Only a psychotic would do that, leave the house unlocked with a note on the door?!"

Keanu's lines in a nutshell: My house, its my house, you' cant do stuff to my house, my house, my house, my house
I'm currently reading through the book for the first time, and I'm so relieved that most of this dialogue is lifted straight from the pages. So far very impressed by the fealty to the source material.
NEXT SCENE: "The scrupulous covering over of all the signes they would have otherwise left testifies to their thoroughness."
I love this scene.
me too
I still love this scene
holy moly i frickin LOVE this book/movie. instead of writing college papers i watch clips on youtube instead...fantastic inspiration
Love this movie
I love Woody's eyes when he says "What if they stomped the animals?!"
So Haymitch, Iron Man, and John Wick are in a car...
The tow truck driver is just listening to all of this
I love to see Orange County, CA represented in a movie. That was 100% the Tustin Market Place they were driving by
Robert Downey Jr.'s an amazing actor
id like to see this movie before the effect
disagree
cant
Don't feel like it would hit the same. It'd be like watching the scenes of Memento in chronological order.
"No, no...YES! but no, but yes." "Are you bullshitting us or not, I just simply never know with you. Is he fucking with us, Bob?"
Amazing!
My uncle in the driver seat is hilarious though.
0:53 "You can't start BOOBY trapping my house!" LOL. Keanu Reeves acting school.
If only John Wick fights Tony Stark for screwing with his house
What if they stomp the animals?
Fucking genius... R.I.P Philip
0:25 made me laugh so hard. xD
ARE YOU BULSHITTING US OR NOT?! 😂😂😂👌🏽
my all time favorite movie
robert downey jr. is epic
"booby traping my house!" LOL
Woody Harrelson as Luckman is so perfect.
Yep, I agree, the characters are so bold! (I don't think much of Donna, though.) And Keanu Reeves looks like he lacks character a little bit, but he did a good job playing confusion and searching for identity. This might well be his best role.
the film is supposed to be set in orange county
@Trademark21 it makes sense though. reeves's character seems like a doornail through the whole thing because they show towards the end that he's pretty much a huge oblivious tool. sad truth.
It's like Terry Gilliam's adaptation of Robert S. Thompson's "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas;" So funny at one point, so tragic at another.
Hunter S. Thompson, not Robert.
Yeah I feel stupid.
Your not stupid, its a common mistake, perhaps you had Robert Downey on the brain. I just clarified in respect of Hunter, as he is no longer with us, and can't clarify for himself. Rest In Peace.
True. I have much respect for the man.

ChiliConQueso its the good old green screen car ride.
HaHa Californians, in particular Southern Californians are obsesssed with their urban geography, my family all grew up there. and the arguements about directions and locations are epic.
They were on their way down to San Diego in this scene.
I hope the house is still there when we get back......yeah I didnt think about that.
Somebody needs to post the end to this scene, when they are in the house . . .
it blows my mind how the sum scenes of this movie can only, in all fairness, be called merely a 'good', or maybe, 'very good' movie, yet when one sits down and watches the isolated scenes one by one, the majority of them are utterly brilliant.

anybody here know what i mean?
gigantes1966 yes I concur
You are correct. It adds up to something greater.
"i wrote: come on in, the doors unlocked."
It certainly is, it's highly entertaining.
christ, they may have broken in and ripped off all we got! all Bob's got any how.....
XD
oh Robert. Why do you have to be so good at everything?!?!?!
my second favourite part of the movie.
the first is frecks attempted suicide hallucination
DEFINITELY!!
I know, my point is the scenery passing outside the window keeps cutting back and forth between two places that are very far apart.
@Trademark21
Yeah, they were perfect for the characters.
This part is better in the movie than it is in the book becuase it is funnier and in the book he wrote "Come on in Donna the doors unlocked" which is not as funny as just "Come on in the doors unlocked
@BrianneH123 In high school and college, teachers have no qualms about showing R rated movies.
robert downey jr is awesome in this movie.
Does anyone know where i can find the scene when they almost crash the car
@Trademark21 and of course rory cochrane
I like how they show the tow truck driver but didn't give him any speaking parts.
Hilarious
@mongration i wouldnt exactly call keanu reeves "one of the best actors ever"...
