  • Come along for another trip through Lancaster County's Amish and Mennonite Lands. I never know what I will see as I travel the main roads and back roads through Plain Sects settlements.

Many Amish hunt and I know more than a few that collect in Lancaster County. Plus, it’s easier for them to buy at auctions in their area rather than go to gun shops. Some Amish have no form of ID’s.

Very odd people. They refuse to own or operate a car , but they own a zero turn? More and more I wonder if their "old ways" aren't just another scam to generate money

Thanks for watching. Strong local community and family ties are one of the main tenets of the plain communities. They feel the ownership of personal vehicles would fracture that closeness. People in the greater society lament the loss of community and family closeness. The greater advent of personal vehicles and highways especially after WW2 was the point where communities started to disintegrate.

I left their religion seventeen years ago. I miss a lot of their ways.
Having studied philosophy, I’ve come to the conclusion, there are things we can’t change. Men have felt the same about having someone to care for, and reciprocation, just like they have for the past two thousand years.
There are oddities, but without seeing a better format elsewhere, tradition will dominate.
Oh! And I found that video. #51. The song runs from 2:11 to 4:01. Thanks again!

I have dealt with a lot of Amish ever since I came to the USA more than 30 years ago, but they would be the last people to "scam " you for generating money. They have weaknesses and flaws like other people, but they definitely are among the most honest people I have ever met.
