  • FINAL BATTLE OF THE RANGE EXTENDERS! THIS is the ultimate battle and most fair test of the DJI Mavic mini CE range extenders! Taking on board comments from my last video, I flew this amazing drone over land firstly with the 2.4ghz yagi extenders then change to the parabolic reflector mirrors on a manual 2.4ghz channel and at a set height through the start and I don't adjust the height at ANY point.
    Hopefully this is the final video you have all being waiting for! Which one will win? MAKE SURE TO WRITE IN THE COMMENTS BELOW WHAT YOU THINK WILL HAPPEN!
    Following on from my previous test found HERE • DJI Mavic Mini CE ULTI...

    A good test and what it does is inspires confidence in the Mavic mini's abilities to see what is achievable with it. Thanks for sharing.

    Awesome test! That's a really great result.
    This shows without a doubt, that the yagis are more efficient than the parabolics, though they did their job too...(did the same test myself - but not so accurate as you did... the result is pretty much what I got - I made 2900mts with the parabolics and 3785mts without losing signal, with the yagis (the low battery warning came up and I flew elsewhere at the beginning, so I wasn't sure how long I had left...). I did it in a more or less rural area with a somewhat irregular terrain. Had to raise the drone to its 120mts height limit to avoid some trees near the end of the flight... (That's one thing to be careful, when you're terrain is not plane unlike the one on this test...)).
    No need for another test, but you could also have checked the length of the flight without any range extenders. It would be nice to see the difference between them.
    The parayagis are not hard to do, if you have the yagis and the parabolics, has you do. It's just a matter of making a hole at the top to fit the yagis (depending on your parabolics - some have the hole at the top already set, while others don't - mine didn't, but it was super easy to do it).
    Although I've seen some tests with great results, in the few that I did, it seemed that the yagis alone had a better range... then again, I didn't do the best test possible and my findings may not be accurate, so... when will you do yours?!? :-)
    Thank you so much for doing this test again and for listening to our points (in the end, it made a big difference, didn't?).
    Keep up with the good work.

      Hi Carlos. With the bespoke parayagis we have tuned the yagis to the parabolic reflectors. They are not standard yagi's and have a different configuration to add signal strangth. I got 5km with some made like you have and at the same location got to 7km with the tuned and designed version. 40% improved signal strength. Gavin will be doing a test on the P2 Parayagi's very shortly.

    So I see that directional antennas have better efficiency.
    Parabolic mirror are also ok, but less effective.
    Otherwise, you can always count on the drone to always return home when the signal is lost. Nice test, long flight distance. Cheaper drone with very good performance.

      Yes, I did have a worrying moment in a video that is coming soon! but certainly a reliable drone! and Yes it seems the parabolics have been pipped by the Yagi's!

    The compass is oriented with the phone in use, depending where the compass is housed in the phone will determine the phone guidance telemetry of the drone vs rc position. If the compass in the phone is housed near the rc, say top left corner of the phone connected, or top right corner, the compass telemetry will be offset such as in this video. Only solution is phone mount with extention cable to distance the phone from interference with the remote controller. I use the iphone 6s and the iphone 6s plus, they thankfully have the compass housed in the lower left or lower right corner of the phone and can be calibrated for accurate telemetry with the drone and rc. I built my own mount using a kitchen cutting board and some simple camera mounts, ordered the extention cable from Drone Valley and is a nice option to use. Cheers!! Keep up the great testing.!!

  • @quentinbush
    @quentinbush 4 роки тому +3

    Thanks for going to the trouble of getting soaked to show the differences. I have now ordered a pair of 2.4 yagi which can only improve the strength of the signal but as you said, there isn't really the need to go these distances.
    I could leave a mate at the end of my range test and just send my drone off until the battery is totally depleted in my spot 13,248 feet and not return home but this time with the yagi. I managed to achieve 5500 feet on 5.8 with yagi without video loss but it wouldn't go any further but that was in a worse location with trees in a valley.

      That was a real worry, if you watched to the end basically a huge amount of rain came over and wind and I was doing like only 5m/s which is what caused it. Just one of those things I'm afraid but yes going further with parayagis is a concern for battery life

    +1 GAVINHR - Excellent follow up test and amazing results! 👍👍 Something caught my eye in this video that could be really good news. The directional icon in the lower center of your display indicated that you weren't facing your drone's flight path in either flight. The drone was shown to be flying to your extreme left almost perpendicular to the direction you (and your antennas) were facing. If this is true, and not a range extender anomaly, then both the Yagis and the Parabolics are not nearly as directional as we thought. 👍😁

    • @GAVINHR
      @GAVINHR  4 роки тому +2

      Good Day Sir, thank you very much for your comment once again! to be honest, I am not sure why but that direction icon has not been brilliant recently and I am not sure why! I should of thrown up my flight path but no I certainly on this occasion did not fly in a completely straight direction and it was to me left as you say but I was not as far out as the compass at the bottom suggested. it used to be very accurate but not so much, time for a re calibration I think!

    • @Ship_Happens

    • @carloscosta253
      @carloscosta253 4 роки тому +1

      @@Ship_Happens I too have noticed that error and asked dji helpdesk about it. They told me to calibrate the compass (both drone and phone) and I did so, but didn't noticed any difference. It may be a software issue (my phone is with the current 1.1.5). It may also be something regarding the firmware, but it seems to me to be more of a software issue, because if you open the maps, it is in the right direction and position, so...
      Either way, it is hard enough to get the results he did pointing it straight to the drone. If he failed to point it properly, the drone had to be the best drone ever! :-)

    I'm in Thailand and it's now the rainy season. It can be lovely flying weather one minute and then start to rain the next . Good to know the mini could cope with it.
    Can you fit your parabolic s and Yagi at the same time? I've only once seen a test done like that.
    I've range tested my mini in a rural area where there are trees and scattered houses.
    Standard remote 500 to 600 metres.
    With parabolic I got 1,032 metres.

    We hope that these types of antennas are calibrated with the TX frequencies of the radio control, and therefore the manufacturer of the antennas has used suitable equipment to build them and relatively put them in "tune" with the TX frequency of the radio control. Otherwise, if not, the transmitter loses efficiency over time or in the worst case you can "fry" the transmitter amps for high SWR. 73 ' de iu8cew

    Why do you use the aluminium Yagis instead of the copper ones because the copper ones are better aren’t they?

    • @GAVINHR
      @GAVINHR  3 роки тому +1

      Absolutely correct! Obviously when I recorded this video these are the ones I had at the time but since i tested copper Vs aluminium Vs brass and the copper won I now keep them in my case 🙂

    Confused. On your test I noticed on the bottom center it shows the position of you and the controller and the drone was all the way to the left so the signal was off to the side of the controller. We’re you turned so you could see the screen better because of the glair.
    I could be wrong.

      Hi. Yes, this was simply the compass / GPS needing calibration on my phone, I have now done that using Google maps, I was facing the drone at all times it was the location indictor that was out

    Another idea for your vids is the length the drone can do in each mode. Although it doesn't make much sense, it seemed to me in my tests that the sport mode takes you to pretty much the same distance the P mode does. Just does it in less time and lasts less in the air, but the range is the same... can it be?

    • @GAVINHR
      @GAVINHR  4 роки тому +1

      I always figured that flying in sport mode would drain the battery a lot faster than flying in P mode hence this is why I always use it, obviously I understand I will get there faster etc, Interesting point, I may explore that!

    • @carloscosta253
      @carloscosta253 4 роки тому

      @@GAVINHRI thought that too, but a few days ago I've seen some range test videos and the folks were always flying in sports mode, so I decided to give it a try and to my surprise, although the flying time was less, the range seemed to be the same, as I got there faster...
      Didn't have the chance to try it over again in P mode to do a proper comparison, but it looks that it may be tight, so a test like the one you just did, with as few differences from each flight as possible, would be ideal... I for one, am curious to see the results... :-)

      Just saw a comparison test. Not the most accurate, but all in all, seems to be reliable enough to show what I meant the other day.

      Hi, my very MAX range with no extenders is 1449m so the extenders make quite a difference. When I very first for my mini I was struggling in some areas for 800m.

      Wow. Thanks for your prompt reply. I recently took my Hubsan H501S-S (remember those?) with internal antennas on the basic controller to 1610 metres. One mile. Pleased to hear, if required, I can well exceed that figure. Seriously thinking of updating to a Mavic Mini, in which case I will definitely be getting some Yaggis.
