Thanks for showing us how the little Neo does in such winds. I was more fixated on the gimbal meter bottom left of the screen most of the time. The Neo was doing all it could to maintain a stable camera position and, I don't care what anyone says, it did the job admirably. I truly did not expect it to do so well at all. In those winds I would be only sending up one of my larger and much older DJI Drones. Regardless of complaints about image quality, which I thought looked just fine, I do wonder how many of these we will be seeing in use by the Professionals out in the field of work they do.
To be honest- I should of made more of a deal of that you are right, it was getting blown all over but considering all that the footage was pretty steady can’t complain at all, yeah image quality isn’t as good as something more expensive but it’s £169 and absolutely packed with features it’s a bargain and unless you blow the footage up in big screens it’s just fine for social media use
😂😂😂 I crashed mine in my kitchen twice tonight with no wind. I was rushing to get a flight in because I was busy, so I didn't really know what I was doing, but it's still here in one piece, lol I could get it to connect to my rc2 though. Will definitely have a play with tomorrow. I also like to say most people on here who have reviewed it saying the video quality is not all that well. I thought for the money it was good, so I'm not disappointed what so ever. I'm looking forward to seeing some more videos gavin I'll definitely say you were brave enough to do that 😂😂 thanks for sharing 😁👌👍 🇬🇧
Video quality isn’t the best as can be seen on the footage example - but then it’s not designed to be some sort of cinematic drone as you know, we really do need to consider the price point and it’s an utter bargain for what it delivers in terms of features. It will be a tough cookie I imagine and won’t break easily it’s pretty solid !
It's doing amazing in horrendous conditions, and the video is so stable. Got mine today. Won't try in those conditions, but this video gives me confidence.
Wow! I did not expect that! I was too afraid to use mine yesterday at 22-23kph winds. So I hid between trees and buildings and not bad for a maiden flight! Aiming for the hoverair pro max initially but it's just the price that made the deal for me! Thanks for the test. Now I won't be worried enough with winds just around 20kph.
Thank you for this video! I live in a windy area near the Wadden Sea so will not be able to use it too often but far more confident to buy it now I have seen which wind it can and cannot handle.
Pitch is a corrected by a physical gimbal, roll and yaw are done in software - which shows how good stabilization software is these days. I believe the drone does this in real-time as it records the footage.
Gavin that is amazing, get mine tomorrow looking forward to trying it with phone microphone. Dji have just done the unbelievable at an unbelievable price, like you I will probably need another battery
Congrats on your new purchase ! I hope you have fun with it, I’m yet to try that, trouble with working full time and not getting the drone pre launch I’m playing a bit of catch up so thinking outside the box but I’m excited to explore more, leave me a comment tomorrow when it comes how you’re finding it. 3:27 this is awesome to see that it still recovers and this slow mo, shot is great too, 3:15 is real time and you can really aprciate the stability of it.
From what I have seen, it looks like a great addition to the drone bag, even for Mini 2 or higher owners. Great Test Gavin it performed remarkably well. I like that it can be safely used around family for tracking and other fun shots if there are a few more people around, it will be less offensive to the general public than menacing exposed blades!
Bingo, it’s not designed to be an amazing cinematic drone but for capturing shots with the family or the odd holiday snap free od the fear that it’s not going to hurt anybody is fantastic, for context i absolutely love stuff like this, the hover X1 is such a great piece of kit also but the Neo at half the price is crazy !
Nice video and thanks for the heads up on Windfinder. I live near the coast so it’s always pretty windy here but DJI Mini drone seem to cope well in the wind. The Humber can be extreme. I tend to motorcycle to the Barton viewing point and have sailed the Humber estuary, which was a white knuckle experience but never flown my drone there. I might try that providing I can avoid protected nature areas.
Indeed, they are pretty good I’ve had numerous conversations with them and outside of breeding season they don’t have much of an issue, oh wind finder is great I use it a lot for work (shipping) and it’s very accurate
I think the aerodynamic shape of it helped but it also as you almost found will be subject to flipping if it gets caught in the right wind. Good video though 👍🇦🇺
I live in a windy beach, 15 to 20 knots practically every day. This would be my first drone. I want to fly indoors for building surveys like restaurants and shops and also outdoors. Will fly at the beach for shorter shooting time. I’m in a budget would you recommend this or the mini 2 SE? Which is pretty old already but still more expensive than the neo
Fantastic little drone, your a brave man though, thought that was flying to the south bank! Will wait for your other reviews Gavin, might have to invest !
So did I when it first lifted off ! Typical drone they are better facing the wind and side on they usually struggle, I’ve flown in some crazy winds but this was a squeaky bum moment taking off. Picture quality isn’t the greatest but it’s fun and at the price point you can’t go wrong
❤ well done . I think this video is brilliant this will send valuable message to everyone just be really careful , this drone has limits being so small compared to other . Specially to people who are new to the hobby . this wind situation is not recommended for someone who is new into the hobby . but the drone in itself is great fun I've had no issues with my One either ✔️✔️🍺🙏
Thank you for the effort! But I would’ve loved to see is what it would do for its main intended purpose, which is to press the button. Let it go up spin around you and come back. I wish you had tested it for that.
HiGavin, thank you for the wonderful test on the Neo, however if buying this kind of drone in the UK, do i need to register or pay for licence ? thank you again for your video.
Great video Gavin! Nice stress test to show how tough this little guy is. It’s perfect for drowners who want to have lots of fun and do things they wouldn’t normally do with their expensive kit, and you don’t have to worry about losing lots of money 😃
You can really see aerodynamics in action. Its cross-sectional area is smaller from the front rather than the side so is less affected by wind. The Minis are the same. Front into the wind uses way less battery than side into the wind (or even just flying forwards compared to flying sideways in still air - watch time remaining drop when you do that.) Also, do you think the flips are actually gyroscopic forces in action? Do you remember the Avata 1 flipping out if you did a quick turn. Is it the same here? - a gust of wind might be turning (yawing it) so quickly that the gyroscopic forces generated by the props do that perpendicular force thing pitching it rapidly?
Hi ! Real question that I have difficulty understanding since I have the Neo, they indicate 18 minutes of maximum autonomy but why even with a 100% charged battery, the screen never indicates more than 8 minutes of autonomy remaining? 2:03
Reminds me alot of the original mini 1 which had fairly underpower motors and would get carried away by gusts of wind. Highly impressed by the neo though, its 100 grams less but honestly seems to handle wind the same if not better.
Wow 😅 to be fair it did better than I thought. Got one arriving tomorrow. Great test. Does it have RTH? I've seen one possible flaw in another video, the youtuber sent the Neo up and then into track mode, the drone lost the subject and just stayed where it was. He lost sight of the drone and had a panic. He had to then get his phone out and take control of the drone.
That is correct from the other UA-camr I have heard this can be an issue when using palm mode, RTH is only active when using the controller, if that occurs indeed you get your phone out and connect via WiFi (hopefully in range) and fit back. I don’t think it will be a common occurrence though. Let me know how you find it tomorrow!

Both, the gimbal and the rocksteady software :)
