Just a tip for anyone playing this version, drop the brightness from 50 to about 20-25, the sprites will look much less flat and the detail will pop more, dunno why the default setting is that high. The CRT filter they give in the game just makes it all really blurry too for some reason so personal preference there.
If you turn the brightness down like 10, and then install CRT-Royale over it with ReShade, it suddenly looks perfectly like FF6 Snes on a CRT (for the most part, but you know, upgraded sprites too)
They probably force bilinear filtering with the CRT shader
@@TofuSG98 It does a lot of stuff, honestly, the only way I can describe it is that it transforms my monitor into a vision of what I remember from my childhood. Now, I don't have a CRT sadly so I can't do honest tests but mentally it feels and looks the same to me. The glow, the darkened edges, the lines that you can't visually see but they exist and blend the pixels, etc. It's transformative, I've started sticking it on all kinds of retro games now (even Octopath Traveler looks great with it.)
Finally, Flare's animation doesn't take forever to execute.
But the original flare looked so sick tho
I like the old school animation still. I would make the sound effect to flare whenever its casted. Hahaha. Weird like that.
Original FF5 flare was the best for me. I never liked the slow one in 6.

The new pixel and animation truly brought this game back from the dead with a new life and excitement.
I'm just now playing thru it and I love it so much it's visually the definitive version stuff like adding Narshe in the background of the cliffs, Vector looking so much more big and ominous when you go there for the first time, and the opening snow crawl with Narshe. Also all the animations look phenomenal

Does the selection sound effect bother anyone else? I know it noramlly has a sound, but this one's sound is more jarring to me.

To be fair, it was meant to be called Ultima Weapon. It was called Atma because the name "Ultima" couldn't fit the enemy encounter display screen
because in japanese it’s called “アルテマウェポン - Ultima Weapon.” but in japanese “Ultima” is pronounced “Arutema.” So Atma was probably a localization error
Shadow and Cyan didn’t use their blades.
Fun fact: Atma/Ultima Weapon dies when it runs out of MP. Keep using the spell Rasp to reduce its MP to 0 and it will die, even if its HP is still full.

Somehow i won this fight with pure luck, i had two petrified, one zombified, and a berserk locke at 6 hp, i didn't even realise that reflect rings would give a good advantage. :D

In Japanese, it's called "Arutema" Weapon, meaning "Ultimate Weapon".
Atma was used back then for the software character limit.
Final Fantasy VI is the first game with an "Ultima Weapon", after this they decided to go with the Latin word "Ultima".
Atma sounds cooler to me plus his speech before the fight is not nearly as good as the original Us version.
@@DragonKingX78 It was _always_ Ultima in JP. "Atma" doesn't make sense in context…if space were an issue, he could've just gone with "Ultima Wpn" or something. People need to stop worshipping Woolsey like he's the Second Coming; yes, he had some good translations that work well (eg. "magicite", the "well done" taunt), and yes, he was pressed for time and was basically working solo and under censorship and other limits, but it has _many_ flaws even beyond those and there's no real reason to use it nowadays when Slattery's translation is clearly superior (it's not flawless, but still).
Fun Fact - Both Terra and Cloud's ultimate weapons in their respective games were the Ultima Weapons. Terra's version takes three form of a long sword 🗡️, while Cloud's version is Ultima Weapon in broadsword form.
Could be just showing my age but I always did like "Atma" a little more. It's a nonsense word and bad translation of course but it sounds strange and evocative.
Funny, I don’t remember an enemy named Ultima Weapon in FF6.
I think Ultima Weapon was its original name in the Japanese version, but the English version changed it to Atma, probably because "Ultima Weapon" exceeds the character limit for enemy's names that can be displayed on screen.

That stopped working AFTER the SNES/PS1 games.
I'll always use Strago Relm and Mog/Gau against it with reflect rings and without access to Vanish/Doom I used spells on it for Mog Earth dance for Gau the ING rage and equip at least 1 ribbon on that party NOT Gau to survive Mind Blast.
Cool. Never thought of the reflect rings. Tbh, unless you are way over leveled, some luck is also involved.
I honestly don't remember if Ultima always had Meteor or Tornado, but man do those spells suck.
This one does not he Ultima boss in Kefka's Tower uses both Ultima and Meteor.
This one uses Quake/Flare as its main spells.

actually farming cotton robes in FF9 I NEVER DID especially on the PS4 PORT of the PS1 version that has a cheat for instantly owning the max gil as soon as you turn it on but even without that cheat I still won't do the cotton robe trick UNLESS you can make all 99 at once and that requires to EASILY KILL Grand dragons with lv 5 death first.

No. It's a 1:1 remake of the SNES version. No added content from the GBA version. Big miss on their part. Unless the GBA stuff is going to be added as DLC?

Terra is so op compared to other characters.
The look of the magic is a definite improvement, but I can’t say I care much for the look of Cyan’s sprite. I like his old iOS/android version better.

Side note: do you have the pixel remaster? If so how do you like it compared to other versions? I myself am loving it and consider it the best version so far and I've played all versions. The only thing missing for me is the awesome window backgrounds they took away. Everything else is far better than all other versions to me

The reflect still increases the damage, but it only shows the animation once.
All that lv grinding I did makes this fight worth it.

Doesnt do Atma justice. His music is to be FEARED, yet your overpowered. When I first heared his theme I imagined an Ultimate Battle. Every character fighting for their life against an Absolute Beast.

I kind of prefer the original version. Remaster does not always mean better. I don't really like the way they did some things with it...its not too bad but there really isn't much difference with some if the sprites, they don't look right for some of them.
The pixel remaster sprites look AWFUL compared to the originals in 1994. Seriously, look at SNES screenshots of the game side by side. These are actually WAY more pixelated and so bright that they're distracting, even if the originals looked better because of CRT TVs.

They managed to make the character sprites worse than the original ones, not to mention the soundtrack that doesnt sound as good. The FF5 one recreated the soundtrack but It still sounds faithful to the 1992 one.
