    ---------------------------------
Perhaps you have not played Final Fantasy 6 for a while, or maybe FF6 Pixel Remaster will be your first adventure with the game. In either case, we should understand how stat gains work here (BEFORE we play) as the mechanics work a little differently to later Final Fantasy games. In FFVI, if you go rushing into early level farming you may end up regretting this later on when you realise you can't boost your stats as much as you otherwise could have. This is because, the only way to gain stats like Vigor (strength) and Magical Attack are to level up when certain ESPERS are equipped on your characters.
Since we don't get these Espers until much later on during our playthrough it can actually be counter-intuative to level up early as this reduces the amount of times you can level up later, with the Espers equipped providing those lovely stat gains.
Of course, as with any Final Fantasy game, how you choose to play is entirely up to you. If you still want to level grind early, that's absolutely fine! I just want you to be able to make an informed decision about leveling so that you don't get frustrated later because you simply did not know how stat gaining worked when you began your adventure.

Of course, as with any Final Fantasy game, how you choose to play is *entirely up to you*. If you still want to level farm early, that's absolutely fine! I hope my video helps you to make a more informed decision about leveling so that you don't have to get frustrated later on. Personally, I will not be avoiding enemy encounters - but I will not be seeking them out either (I will resist my JRPG itch for early farming)! This should give a good balance for gaining additional stats later on. Thanks for watching and please subscribe for future FF6 content!

Stamina also affects how instant kill abilities/status ailments will affect your character. A character with high stamina has a higher chance of causing a spell like break/death/banish to miss.

If the version you're playing has the Cactuar Magicite consider giving it to characters like Locke(for stealing) or Cyan(so his Bushido/SwordTech fills faster). It gives a +2 Speed on level up.

It won't have it and even on the GBA version speed is STILL useless Sword Tech still takes too long with 255 Speed AND Quick used I'd rather have Cyan just fire 5000+ damage Ultima spells instead
Stamina also causes INCREASED POISON damage every turn which why increasing it sucks.

Pretty solid video summarizing these mechanics. I was years into playing this game before I found out a lot of this. I like to remind folks that this is a game that really doesn't need any optimization, you'll naturally acquire most of the skills you need to advance without a ton of grinding and while some characters are objectively more useful than others (in terms of mechanics) you don't *need* to use the "best" party if you enjoy using other lineups. There's a rich world to explore and tons of backstory and hidden character scenes, so if you're new to the game I hope you enjoy it!
(P.S., I've played through at least a dozen times and I've never gotten close to level 99; anything over the mid-60s and you'll probably WRECK the endgame bosses. I've also beaten the game using only 3 characters leveled to the low 40s, so...)

Interesting video. If adopting a completionist mentality, or close to it, is your thing in regard to stats, then have at it - that's kind of cool. But for the average player, it doesn't matter. You're going to be absolutely destroying everything in your path by playing normal, being leveled up, and getting the good gear and magic. Have fun, and enjoy this classic! I can't wait.

Very important to note, leveling without espers does increase the most important stat...your level. It is factored into damage calculation. This isn't ff8, enemies don't level with you. I just hate running from everything and you do get some really fun abilities in the early game in ff6 to be running from everything.

Unless you want to max stats specifically, the "middle ground" option is more than fine. Don't grind until Espers, but don't obsess about perfect stats, because your party becomes overly powered way before max stats. I personally am going to get everyone 9999 hp, 999 mp, at least 1 max stat that makes sense with the character and speed for most.

IMHO - Even if you plan on doing this, you don't even need to stat-boost more than 4 people and even that is a bit of a stretch.
Just choose which 3/4 you want to focus on and send each one INDIVIDUALLY into the dinosaur forest and have them level ALONE. They will level up faster, and it's easier to switch out the espers since you're only leveling 1 character at a time. If they have a hard time dealing with the mobs at first, you can send them in with a companion that you're not interested in stat-boosting (Umaro/Gogo are perfect companions) to help out until the main character is able to handle the mobs alone.

The Pixel Remasters allow you to turn off random battles, so it is going to be really easy to avoid over-levelling if you play that version. I think the EXP multiplier might even let you decree the amount of EXP you get, so you can still have battles if you want, while slowing the rate at which you level.

Correction: Vigor becomes useless after 128. However, Magic Power continues to get stronger after 128, although the improvement is really only useful if you want to get low level spells to do 9,999 damage or utilize certain exploits (Cyan, Gau, etc.) Caution: magic damage can overflow and start back over at 0 if it gets TOO high and you cast the strongest of magic such as Ultima.

The way I go for seriously high stats for everyone (not in full detail but a somewhat quick note)
Up until you hit the floating continent run from every thing possible only leveling if you get KOed by a boss you can't beat , then when the FC is available level up to at least 35 while focusing on MAG and VIG respectively per type of character you want (don't have to do it on the island just need to unlock and have access to the first 12 ,I think in some version you had tobat least visit the FC .last 2 heroes don't gain stats) .
Keep Celes at least 4 levels lower than every else then Sabin and Edgar at least 3 and setzer 2 then I suggest getting MOG next so you can run around encounters free collecting everyone well for the most part ( I usually stack the heroes levels in the order I'm collecting them by 1 level so I don't waist any levels). Also when leveling on the floating continent try and steal from has many dragons has you can so you have at least like 8 genji gloves so everyone has access to an end game shield (or so you can dual wield excessively lol)
Oh and doing level 99 runs I don't actually take everyone upto 99 I take them up to 97. The one hit spells in Kefkas tower are level 3 and 5 spells so if you are not a level that is divisible 3 or 5 they dont hit. And when doing this I only have to add one more HP level (Bahamut equipped ) and do 4 (or 5 if I messed up) of them
And don't forget to take advantage of the veldt to teach everyone the important spells.
I really do enjoy this game and still wonder if wind God gau and/or psycho cyan will be in this version or not

It's BEST To GET "Mog" EARLIER Because If You "Don't" You TOTALLY MISS OUT On His "Water Harmony" Dance(Which Can ONLY Be Gotten In The WoB(World Of Balance)). I Always Got Him IMMEDIATELY AFTER "Terra" Rejoins" When You First Get The "Airship" After "Vector" And Then WENT And Got It In The "Serpent Trench". He ALWAYS JOINS At "5 Levels Higher Than" Your "Average Party Level" So You Can STILL Get The "Stat Boosts" For Your "Other Main Characters" UP TO "Mog's" Level At That Point. Yeah, Mog Has A MISSABLE Dance In This Game. Like I Said, It's "Water Harmony" And The "Word Of Balance" Is Your ONLY CHANCE For It. To GET Mog In The "World Of Balance", You Have To Find "Lone Wolf" In The "Treasure House" In "Narshe" And FOLLOW HIM Into The "Mines" All The Way To The "Frozen Esper" And Then He'll Be Holding "Mog" Hostage. There, You WAIT, And Then Your Prompted With A CHOICE. THAT Is Where You PICK "Mog"!

With this remaster I am the farthest I've ever been in VI. I've started it multiple times in the past but have never even made it to the world map until now. I think I'm a tad bit younger than people that got into VI back in the 90's.
My favorite has always been FF7. I'm 40 now, and was 16 when FF7 was first released in the US. Prior to the PS1 console I didn't have much, if any interest in the RPG genre. When VI would have been released I would have been younger than 16 and unable to come up with the patience an RPG requires. The commercials for FF7 were incredible though, it was cinematic, and at the time I couldn't even tell it was an RPG. When I booted up FF7 and saw that it was turn based I was not expecting it and did not like it at first. I soldiered on though (pun intended) and once I beat the guard scorpion and the timer started I was hooked. The rest is history, RPG's to this day are still not my favorite genre, yet FF7 remains my favorite game of all time.
I keep seeing people that love FF7, but like FF6 even more. I am very curious so I'm going to finally try to finish it this time.
On a side note, what he says about your other stats coming from Espers reminds me of FF8 where GF's can increase your stats.

24 year old european here, yeah from the region who started FF with VII then had to make do with ports of various quality for the first 6 games, until Pixel Remaster set everything right.
RPG patience does come at different ages it seems. As early as 2004 when I was just 6, I was watching my older sister who was 16 play many RPGs, FF 7/8/9/10/10-2 and Kingdom Hearts. That got me interested early and I went through and finished KH1 likely around 2005 and then FF 9 sometime before 2007. Granted, it would take me then many years until I would finish another FF, but now I'm 3 games away from completing all from 1 to 12! ( Excluding 11 altough I found an used PS2 copy for collection... ).
Once again with the PAL region being so late to the party in JRPGs, Seiken Densetsu was actually our first Nintendo RPG in 1993! ( Sega actually was first on the SMS ) It was called Mystic Quest instead of FF Adventure, and was the first JRPG translated to a variety of European languages. The SNES sequel, Secret of Mana would then follow the trend in May 1994... and we would also get FF Mystic Quest, renamed to Mystic Quest Legend and translated. Then... nothing much until that fated late 1997 with the region breaking FF VII.

The REASON Is Because The "Rune Edge"/"Rune Blade" Is SO GOOD EARLY ON, And You Can EASILY GET MORE "Ribbons"(1 For "Each Character") LATER ON. There's A REALLY EASY TRICK "I" Know Of For "Farming Them" That's Actually NOT THAT HARD To Do. It's A LITTLE LUCK-BASED But It Works Perfectly!

Sure it's mostly pointless, but it's fun being able to pretty much one-shot everything at the end game. I did a perfect stats playthrough with FF6 a long time ago but it was with an emulator so I could use and abuse the save-state, not sure I'll have the patience to do it with the Pixel Remaster but I am going to try.

One advantage to a little bit of grinding early on is that new party members are added to your party at a level that's about equal to what the part is currently -- I think Locke joins at +1 of Terra, Edgar +1 of him, Sabin +2 of the average of the three of them -- something like that. So I don't do a ton of grinding early on, but I might boost them a couple at key moments.

Even as an idiot child in the 90s I managed to beat the game with my party only at about an average of 4500 HP and I definitely did not understand the stat boosting mechanics of the game - I erroneously concluded Espers were pretty much useless outside of learning spells because summons generally suck in FFVI so I often didn't have Espers equipped once I learned the spells I wanted. I probably received incidental stat boosts but I definitely didn't min/max or seek optimal builds - ffs I had Umaro in my final party against Kefka (facepalm). The game's simply not difficult enough to require strategic leveling outside of speedrunning it - I mean outside of the quadra-slash & the X-magic mechanic your max damage is 9999 so the game doesn't really reward you for min/maxing to an excessive degree.

For dealing the maximum damage possible per turn, you can't beat the Valiant Knife + Offering combination. First, Valiant Knife ignores enemy defence. Second, it deals one additional damage for every HP less than maximum that Locke has. Finally, the Offering relic makes the user hit four times when attacking; normally it also cuts damage in half, but because Valiant Knife uses its own damage calculation that part is ignored.
In this way you can fairly easily have Locke deal 40k damage in a single turn. If you pair the above combo with a Genji Glove and Illumina it's entirely possible to kill Kefka in a single turn before he even starts talking. If you want to be completely certain you can even have Locke cast Quick to get two turns for a total of sixteen attacks, eight of which will deal 9999 damage and the other eight dealing a bit less, but with the possibility of a free Pearl spell.
Heck, this'll even kill the bonus bosses in the GBA version in a single turn.

The only stat worth increasing is magic power (as well as HP maybe), and in the end they don't even make much difference. FF6 isn't hard enough to worry about it, and having to constantly keep track of everyone's Exp to be able to switch espers at the right time, which involves going into the menu again and again (+ trying to prevent characters from leveling up at the same time... ...such a headache in multi-party dungeons) ... ...All this to make everyone gain +2 in magic power is insanely annoying (and very frustrating if you miss a level up, too -- everyone loves resetting the game and flushing some progress down the toilet, am I right?). I personally go the other way around : I assign each magicite to a specific character and I ban the overpowered ones. So a certain character will always get the magic bonuses, another one will always get the HP bonuses, etc. This also has 3 beneficial effects : one it makes every character even more unique since they will know different magic ; two : it makes the colosseum easier to manipulate since some characters will know very little magic (or none at all if you so choose), and three : it makes the game harder (the game is perfectly completeable without Ultima, Meteor, Curaga, Arise, Reraise, Firaga, Blizzaga, Thundaga... ...and having big bosses be an actual challenge is more fun imo, but I've been playing the game since 1994). As far as stat farming is concerned, the only stat that really helps is Speed. The reason for this is because Final Fantasy VI like several games before it, has a hidden mechanic that affects the damage you do with weapons and spells. That is you get a multiplier to damage from both that increases as you level up. So if you have even close to the best weapons and spells by the end of the game, you're probably doing max damage per hit at max level, unless you are using a Relic that gives you X-Fight, in which case you're doing around 4k per hit (4k times four, so about 16k total).
As for defense, well armor helps with the physical side of that, and also there are pieces of equipment that will increase your resistance to certain elements and give you immunity to status effects and instant death. So again, stat training for defensive purposes is pretty much superfluous. In fact, in earlier versions of the game, you can hurt yourself if you do this too much, due to overflow and end up getting one-shotted by the most basic enemies.
The only stat that is going to benefit you long term is Speed. But unless you're playing the GBA version where the post-game bosses are ludicrously fast, this is also something you don't need to worry about, because nothing ever really gets that much faster in the main game.
When you get your airship back in the second half of the game (you'll know when you're in the second half), just go to the forest that looks like is has a mouth in it, and farm Tyrannosaurs with your initial four party members until they're level 99 (won't take as long as you think). Then get everyone back, saving Gau for last. Everyone but Gau will be at level 99.

Also, If Your Playing The "PSX Version", Then For MAXING MP, There's "6" Characters Than CANNOT MAX "MP" Naturally And Those "6 Characters" MUST EQUIP The "Crusader" Esper For "One" Level BEFORE "Level 26" To MAX MP Naturally. For MAXING "HP" Naturally(This Goes For ANY CHARACTER If I Read It Right), You MUST EQUIP The "Bahamut" Esper For "Appropriate" Levels(What THIS MEANS Is You MUST EQUIP The "Esper" ON The "Level" BEFORE The "Level" LISTED). Example: Say It Was FOR "Level 50". You Would EQUIP The "Bahamut" Esper On The "Character" When They Are AT "Level 49". The LEVELS They NEED The "Bahamut" Esper On Are FOR Levels 69, 70, And 71. SO, You Would EQUIP The "Bahamut" Esper On The "Character" STARTING FROM "Level 68" ALL THE WAY TO "Level 71", UNTIL They HIT THAT "Level". Again, That's For ALL 12 Characters(ANY Version Of FF6). BTW, The "6 Characters" That CANNOT MAX "MP" Naturally Are Locke, Cyan, Shadow, Edgar, Sabin, And Setzer(AT LEAST In The "PSX Version"(Not Sure About The "GBA" Or "Pixel Remaster")). In The "SNES Version" The "Calculation" For "MP Maxing" Is "Different".

There is one thing you forgot to mention that entirely changes what stat you have to focus on: Ultima Weapon!
Spoiler: As Ultima Weapon's damage output is almost entirely dependent on the characters HP (higher the HP the higher the damage output) stats like vigar are useless. So it's good to keep that in mind early on, so you can start boosting stats promptly.
Also, having ninja gauntlet and a few other relics mean you can attack 2 handed (offering), 4 times each with each weapon in hand (4 times) adding. While I usually do this is Sabin, this can also be applied with Ultima Weapon and Excalibur which can output 9999x 8 around mid game. Sadly, FF6 doesn't have a way to break damage limits unlike later games, so 9999 is the most damage that can be done per attack no matter what so once a character hits that point, even if the stat isn't maxed out there's no point grinding into it any more because there will be no benefit - only loss of gain in other stats
Edit: since I forgot they changed the names after the initial release, the ninja gauntlet was renamed to the Genji Glove and the Offering was renamed to Master's Scroll. Grew up with the SNES version and they changed many of the games on later releases 🤷‍♂️

Late reply, but Sabin's biggest damage blitzes are magical damage, so they benefit from magic power. Even bum rush is non-elemental magic type damage. You will never do more attack damage with a regular "fight" command than you will by using a blitz, so every one of sabin's attacks should come from a blitz. Aura bolt or bum rush for single target, fire dance or air blade for multiple targets.

Essentially, you are capping your levels to certain parts of the game. Set Gil and AP to 4x and Exp to 0x in the boost multipliers. This way you can fight battles and still get rewards from them but just no exp until you’re ready. So far I’m playing this on my current run and I’m having a blast. @jfast8256 2 роки тому +3

It's irrelevant unless you're going for max stats. If you go for max stats, you'll need to look up the level averaging zones and plan accordingly. You can actually use these zones to eat away excess exp, so you can get more exp on a character without leveling up. I think I was level 6 when I got to the end of the game at which point I recovered every character and had free reign to max stats.
If you do this, The Veldt is your friend. It allows you to learn magic and earn gil without gaining exp. You also want to horde certain items for some select fights "like the pincer attack with the cranes and using rods on them".
But if you aren't doing a level challenge, just focus on the "level average zones" and try to level up everyone evenly when you hit these zones while staggering levels so you can use espers to level them up. It's not really that big of a deal as your Morphed Terra will be doing 9999 damage to everything on screen twice with the Soul of Thamasa as long as you've been raising her magic stat some.

Important things to know about FF6.
    1. Stat farming with espers is not, in any way, mandatory to beat the game or ANY optional bosses.
    2. Stats above 128 are rounded down to 128 so increasing any stat above that is pointless.
    3. Early training will not gimp your party, your base stats are more then adequate to beat everything in the game without much difficulty.
    4. Speed is the best stat to train, hitting your foe multiple times will do more damage then hitting them once with one strong attack. AKA two attacks of 6000 do more damage then one attack of 9999 for same amount of time taken.
    5. Stamina is the least useful stat to train unless you plan to run a regen strategy then by all means go crazy with the stat. (128 max)
    6. Terra is primarily a magic based character BUT the choice to make her to powerful physical attacker isn't just there, rather the game does everything it can to make it apparent to you. Terra has access to the best swords in the game, with a bit of strength training and if it were possible to do more then 9999 damage in a single attack the best any character could do is match Terra for damage. Terra is a versatile attacker, and a tank if you want.
    7. HP/MP has static growth, its the same for every character at level up for the same level (Example: every character leveling up from 29 to 30 gets 79HP) The only difference in their HP/MP is what they have at level 1, this is why you normally only need 1 or 2 levels of HP/MP esper training to max them out.
    8. Unless you have played FF6 before I would STRONGLY recommend just playing through the game without looking up any guides and ignore any of the complicated challenges that people give themselves, getting drowned by the game mechanics (that aren't forced and thus are optional in this case) is just silly for a first playthrough and any game that makes it necessary for you to learn such things for a casual playthrough is just poorly designed or darksouls (Or games of a similar ilk).
    9. All the information in this video or my post is not unique to the Pixel Remaster, rather is it's just regurgitated information for ANY version of the game, with the exception of unique changes to the version, any guide you look up will tell you same thing, outside of personal opinion that is.
    10. FF6 is a great game but making a video on a version of the game you know nothing about so focus on the information that is already out there and has been for over 20 years is nothing more then a shameless cash grab. Had you predicted that you would have had diagonal movement in this version because every other Pixel Remaster version has it then you would have added something of value to this, but I guess if you have nothing original to say then repeating 20+ year old information is the next best thing. And yes I see the irony of me doing the same thing, but at least I'm not making a shameless cash grab.
