    These two towns were along the old Lonesome Pine Trail that headed to the Cumberland Gap and into
    Kentucky. This old Indian trail was followed by the Eastern Woodland Buffalo, Dr. Thomas Walker and his
    exploration party in the 1750's and later by Daniel Boone.

    Jar with spout was for oil for cars and trucks. It came in barrels and they pumped it out into those jars to put in your vehicle. The lever on the side of the pump turns it on and off.

    Born and raised in Ewing and Rose Hill. Actually born in the nearest hospital in Middlesboro, KY, but lived most of my life in Ewing and Rose Hill. Living in Indiana now, but my dream is to go back home to VA. So many memories there.

    I used to pass through Rose Hill and Ewing Virginia all the time many years ago. They were always small farm and coal commodities. My Daddy as a boy would take the train ( steam 🚂 locomotive) from St Charles, VA, where he was raised to Harrogate, Tennessee where is Grandparents lived . The locomotive would pass through Ewing, Rose 🌹 Hill along the way . Thanks for keeping a bit of my past in southwest VA, alive in my memory. Love ❤️ the channel!

    I would say the Gulf gas pump was still in use during the 70’s because it says No Nox on it. In the early 70s when they started putting anti-pollution things on the engines, the engines would knock and they put more lead in the gas to keep it from knocking. The pump is older than the 70s probably late 50s early 60s.

    Awesome trip through those beautiful little towns Coyote's! Love the old gas station! The knob resets the numbers back to zero, you are correct Coyote! I have 2 old pumps, one out in front of my garages and one in the house as a showpiece! My wife loves old automobilia as much as me! Shoot I've even got a 69 Corvette too! The corvette appears to be a 76 which was the last year of the C3 Stingray, but its definitely a 75 or 76 if it has Stingray on the front fender, 75 had astro ventilation vents behind the back glass, 77 didn't have the Stingray badge anymore, just had crossfags on the front fenders and 74 didn't have black bumper guards like that one, 78 was the first year with the big fastback back glass. If I could see it closer I could tell exactly! I've had several Corvette's through the years as well as mopars, fords and others.Yall made a great video there! Love it!👍

    Movie Theater was beside Post office in Ewing.
    Also those were not red lights. The flashing lights were put over the four lane because so many people ran the stop signs & caused fatal car wrecks. If you went across from the on sand cave road you would see 2 giant stop signs stacked on one another warning people to stop for traffic.
    Super Dollar is owned by Food City it’s only one of six stores that aren’t called Food City. It was previously Piggly Wiggly.

    The dollar stores aka Dollar General have become the death of rural America. When people learned how to defeat Walmart, DG swooped in with an entirely different business model, literally building right beside of the mom and pops they intend to drive out of business. Couple location with extended hours for DG and people know the can rely on DG being opened while mom and pop are closed by 5pm. The life we knew 20-30-40 years ago, is gone forever sorry to say.

    • @HiriamAbiff32
      @HiriamAbiff32 3 місяці тому +2

      Fun fact the Dollar General in Rose Hill predates Walmart in Jonesville by 15years. In our area that is.

    • @TheRealBuckFiden
      @TheRealBuckFiden 3 місяці тому

      @@HiriamAbiff32 sadly, the Jonesville area couldn’t Walmart. Walmart brought jobs and new life to the community. They were like moths to a flame, embracing what would be the demise of nearly all small business in the area. I remember visiting there and never understanding how there were no 24 hour gas stations or stores open, no internet, no cell service unless you drove to a nearby mountain, but knew it would hit one day just as it has everywhere. Technology has been such a double edged sword to us as a society.

    • @HiriamAbiff32
      @HiriamAbiff32 3 місяці тому

      @@TheRealBuckFiden we had Fiber Internet high speed, not long after the prison was built (2003ish), infact that’s why we have an airport is because of the Prison.
      I’m not sure what you mean by Jonesville area couldn’t Walmart? Truthfully most people didn’t grocery shop in town because Middlesboro (Kentucky) is tax free. With Harlan being a few miles from Pennington people choose to save tax money and go out of state.
      No disrespect but I’m from Rose Hill. I guess I see things a lot differently that an outsider looking in.

    • @TheRealBuckFiden
      @TheRealBuckFiden 3 місяці тому

      @@HiriamAbiff32 I meant they couldn’t defeat Walmart.
      It’s a beautiful region. Most of my family, or what’s left of it still resides in that area to this day. I grew up in the suburbs but spent much of my childhood summer breaks and weekends there with grandparents, etc. It was a culture shock in my teenage years when I would visit and the whole county would roll the sidewalks up at night but at the same time, it intrigued me. I’ve traveled all over this country and I must say, Lee county VA will always hold a special place in my heart but it’s not home for me. While I love the small town rural feel of the community, as I’ve gotten older I realize how much it lacks in terms of infrastructure to support the community. Healthcare, jobs and education system primarily. I would venture to guess the state invests most of its revenues toward those types of infrastructure in and east of Richmond.
