I'm not even from Virginia & any building this beautiful & old should be restored to former glory just like old theatres are being done today. Preserving history is a way to inspire to future generations.
I hope the owners work with you so this house can be saved. This is a gem. To step in the front door is a walk into history. These houses ARE American history. We don't have castles, we have mansions like this from eras that are long gone, never to return. I'd think people of Virginia would want to save this. It would make a great historic museum. Wow, I hope you save this!
So many old homes that would be lovely to restore. I wish some of the millionaires and billionaires would invest in these instead of some of the trash things they support now days. I truly would if I could. Thank you for the tour. It is indeed a lovely spot for a big old house. I wish more of the gardens had been left. Sorry she got emotion at the end. Best wishes to them.
What a magnificent home. My brother-in-law (a builder) and sister restored a similar 7000 SF ante-bellum mansion in downtown Norfolk (VA) back in 1990. It was owned by Old Dominion University and had also been condemned and slated for demolition. They bought it from ODU for $100,000 and restored it to pristine condition over a year+. Turned it into a successful B&B and sold it after about 10 years.
Poplar Forest was in my back yard as a kid. Thomas Jefferson owned the property and spent a fair amount of time there. It was amazing living so close to that type of history. Hopefully the surrounding homes owners realize what a treasure this could be for their community after a restoration.
38:45 Heather is an excellent presenter! This house is spectacular. I am going to their website to see the old photos. Thank you for all the excellent work that went into this video.
Wow what an absolutely gorgeous house! This house absolutely deserves to be completely restored and brought back to its former glory! Thank you so much for taking the time to give this house the attention it absolutely needs right now.
Been a follower of the Dunnington Manson for long time. Just looks strange to see front porch gone, but yeah saw where being saved.. Wish I was rich to contribute, for this is Very Worth while investment....
Wonderful old building. Such place needs to be restored to its former glory. It needs to become a national monument because if it's gone, it's gone and the children of tomorrow wil never see how America's mansions were once look like. Now there is still a chance.
Heather is a delight. Her passion and dedication to this beautiful home are infectious. I hope she can make her dream project happen. Keep believing, Heather! Dreams can come true.
Unfortunately, I would need to commit a lot of OTHER crimes to afford the upkeep on such a property! The painting contract, alone, would be the end of me.
Wow. What a beautiful, regal mansion. Such a terrible shame it's in the condition it is. Very interesting architectural features; like everyone, I loved the tower rooms, the pocket doors, the conservatory, the attic. When touring places such as these, I always feel a kinship with the people who lived in them during the height of the glory of the structures, and can *so* imagine being there in those sacred, hallowed places. I was born far too late! Thank you very much for the tour; I plan to visit the website for the mansion to see some of the photographs from its heyday, and I'll pass along info to try to help raise awareness and funding for this lovely mansion. Always look forward to your videos 😊
There was a house here for sale i looked at. Sterling, il. The most unique house ive ever seen in my life. Way too much to say here. It was for sale for 23,000 ten yrs ago. This video was very well done! From the videography to the editing and to the very knowledgeable tour guide. I absolutely loved how she continued to talk about which time period you were in with each room. It really brought the exterior and interior footage together. I really hope she is successful in purchasing and restoring this building! Her passion for this place was written all over her face and also expressed through your questions and comments. It is a beautiful place. My breath caught when you walked into the entryway! Stunning!
This would be so nice to preserve and make a nice getaway spot for a wedding retreat. Thanks for the wonderful docu. and great job to everyone for this to be possible.
Fantastic video! I'm so glad there's now a foundation dedicated to the restoration of this beautiful home. We visited the property about 5-6 years ago, while it was still supposed to be a "golf resort community", and poked around the house. It was so sad to see the "demolition by neglect" happening before our eyes. I will say they are fortunate the mansion has a slate roof, as that has certainly saved a lot of the structure, despite the ingress of water in other areas. It's not only beautiful, but practically permanent.
You should go to Seven Mile Ford in Marion, VA. There’s a home similar in size to this right off the side of I-81. Tons of history on it, & has Civil War stories. It’s very old. Then if you go to Adwolfe, Va (just right up the road) there’s a very old Octagon shaped house. There are so many old houses like this in these areas.

Beautiful Home! Wonderful Video! Hats off to people who put their efforts into saving our historic homes. Question: Why hasn't anyone tried to "dry" in the windows/roof with something affordable to at least keep the elements out somewhat? All the mouldings, built-in's, etc.... in the home are deteriorating more, and cost a fortune to replicate ...just a thought.
It would be lovely if it could be a home again, I guess not many people can afford or live that way any more, but my Dream it could make a wonderful home with the sound of Children playing in the yard! Good luck in saving this Mansion
Needs a lot of work. I restored a house, the oldest date of which I could find was 1848, and it took me a year and a half. I took it down to the studs. Redid everything, mostly myself, for just under $60,000, but it was only a 1,600 square feet two story in town. Again, I did most of the labor myself. That roof alone could be $50,000. Not to be too negative, but if water and ice have gotten into the brick and mortar and cracked it then the structure is not salvageable. I'm sure the land owners want to green light a suburban development. Very sad!
Some people we knew lived in a house dating back to the 18th century. The house was surrounded by a huge property. They sold the land to a developer with the stipulation that the house would not be demolished. The property is now a neighborhood, and the house was repurposed into a small private school

How come no one wants to buy it to save and preserve hustory? It's an architecturally designed masterpiece. If I was wealthy like how so many millions are I would definitely buy it.
It's a grand old house, but I would not call it a "masterpiece". It has some very impressive elements, and a great history, but being somewhat cobbled together, it lacks cohesiveness. Nevertheless, it's definitely worth saving.
I think it would be so cool to buy up an old house like this to restore and live in with extended family and friends, and use the land to farm too. If i won the lottery haha
That is a beautiful home !!
AMAZING!!!
Don't laugh but could the president help if you asked? Since this building is important to history
There are federal grants for this type of thing - that's mentioned on the website.
My favorite place ! ❤❤
28:02 I have heard paint that has pealed and looks almost like alligator skin is lead-based paint.
