This is one of my all time favourite Voiceplay videos. The little "gossip clique" is Geoff's, Layne's, and Eli's wives, and Earl's partner. And the sandwich delivery guy is Rek, their friend that recently passed away and that Halo theme was dedicated to. I love that!
I never caught that was REK!
I confess, I was seriously wondering who that group of people was. Loving that we got 4 partner cameos.
Also - can we show Eli appreciation for learning those lines in Korean?
Something no one ever seems to mention about this is during Pop!, they are playing with a bunch of things related to "pop." Balloons, bubble wrap, gum, bubbles, and soda (pop).

Oh my goodness! In all the times that I've watched this video, that has never registered. I've sort of wondered what that was all about but never thought about it enough to think "things that pop"! Wow!!
Geoff has described Earl's voice as like a laser, cutting through. He says things about "being in Earl's world". :) Eli is of course master of riffs and runs. The cry of every fan "no don't stop...." we always want more. And in this one especially they just give us teasers of what they can do. I don't know what you have planned but to hear a variety of riffs and runs I can only suggest Tennessee Whisky, where Eli, J.None and Geoff all do that famous run. It has been said, apparently, that a bass singer can't do a run like that. Well, Geoff can. :)

I have a range that’s pretty close to Geoff’s and Tim’s minus the subharmonics. And I never understand when I hear reactors being so impressed by a fancy run as if it’s a really hard thing to do.
@@DennisKovacich I believe it's because it's a hard thing to do *well*.
The transitions in this are just genius! And yeah, I was also surprised Geoff did this arrangement-he’s a brilliant arranger so that wasn’t it, but usually if there’s goofy humor it’s a Layne thing. I’m so glad they got this done before Earl and J.None left-it wouldn’t be the same without them.
BTW, the man who gave Earl the sandwich is Rek, the fallen comrade who was memorialized for the Halo Theme. I’m glad he had that walk on so we could see one of his many contributions to Voiceplay-helps make him real to the audience so we can also remember him.
Great reaction!! I hope you went back and watched the whole thing through because I’m sure you were so caught up in the details that the whole of it didn’t really sink in. As always, though, I really appreciate your insights into the details that make the whole thing work.
My favourite parts of this video is when one realizes that after Frankie Valli, all the choreography is directly from the music videos for each song. Frankie's being "Single Ladies" and the prior most likely taken from live performances.

This one is another one where you get to see their humor. The ladies off to the left are the wives of Geoff, Layne, and Eli. The gentleman who has that line "you should see the size of his wallet" is Earl's husband Nick. This is such a fun video.
So fun! Their “Cheerleader” is an oldie from when Tony was still part of the group and it’s a lot of fun too! “If you don’t work out like this, you’re doing it wrong” 😂. If you watch it, make sure to keep watching after the last note to see how Geoff is really building those muscles (show off!)😉😂.

You should check out one of their promotional videos from 2012, called 'Crimpella".....it has the usual 4 plus Tony Wakim instead of J.None
Such a fun arrangement, I think it's easy for the fans to just sit back and enjoy the humor and the singing (and the nostalgia) but it's great to see you break it down and point out the really great techniques they are using throughout this. With 14 songs to pay royalties to, they probably never made any money off of this! But it apparently won the poll they had put out about which video the fans wanted to see next and Geoff did a fantastic job expanding this and putting it together.'I see someone already alerted you to the fact that their spouses appear in this, but I don't think anyone mentioned that Rek Dunn is the guy dropping off the sandwich to Earl while they are gathered around the trash can. Don't know if you have seen/reacted to their Halo video, but it is dedicated to Rek.
You don't need to apologize for long videos. We wouldn't be here watching if we didn't want to hear your thoughts on the music. Your enjoyment and insight is the reason we keep coming back. Keep the videos coming.

The Boy Band video has the feel of just Letting Everything just hang out. Like a simple jam session that all comes together. I love it.
Almost a half hour of Jennifer, what's not to like! 😊 They really did keep you busy in this one! Figured you'd have to stop and go back a lot of times with a medley. Fourteen songs and the transitions were really incredible. First just picking the songs, then choosing the order of the songs so those transitions can be smooth and clever like they were, just amazing right? Just a wonderful start to VoicePlay week Jennifer! The choreographer, Kristen Denehy worked with both Home Free and VoicePlay on their season of the SingOff and continues to work with both groups. Home Free's From the Vault series features Kristen working with Home Free on staging their live shows and videos.
So much fun Jen! They cover all the aspects, from being talented peformers to having brilliant arrangements and beautiful productions. I hope you have "Just Sing" on your list (with the subtitles turned on) to see and hear several of the former members and collaborators in one video. I miss Earl and J.None but Cesar's been doing great!
My favorite thing that most people miss is the fact that fake love is a K-pop song and Eli has to sing in Korean! And his pronunciation is pretty good. I love this medley and all the vocals and dancing.
I wondered about that! I knew BTS was Korean, and had some English songs, but couldn't tell if it was me having an audio processing issues, or if it was Korean.
Absolutely adore this. Fantastic arrangement by Geoff. I always love how they worked so hard at the choreo & then refused to take it seriously. It fascinates me how Eli just looks right in any era. Everyone's in this one, that's Earls's husband saying the wallet line to Geoff, Eli & Layne's wives & Rek "who they dedicated Halo to" delivers the sandwich!
I'm also gonna go out on a limb and say that Rek was delivering a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich... cuz Boyz 2 Men. 🙂

I really appreciate how you analyze the different methods of pronunciation and breath control. I know you fangirl a bit, but you are significantly less emotional than Deadgirl Superstar.
I forgot how much Earl brought to the group. Since he left VoicePlay, I have only seen him in a video on Tim Foust's channel. Tim brought five different Acapella members from various groups to perform Falling Over You.
OMG... I'm so thrilled that you're giving Voice Play a focus week! They have gradually tied with Home Free to be my favorites. I just love their creativity and entertainment abilities. And of course, each of their talents meld to create the whole.

When they lost Earl, they lost a gem that would be almost impossible to replace. The comedy between him and Geoff in the live shows displayed his wacky side and the voice could never be duplicated, it's one of a kind.
Jennifer, if there is a more fun reactor out there I have yet to meet them. You add so much to each reaction beyond others. Your reaction is always on point but your enthusiasm/fun lifts you above. Thank you as always.

Hi Jen, here's a suggestion for you, the epicness of Voiceplay (feat. Honey La Rochelle) AND Home Free in what started as one of their 'battle song' arrangements when they were on The Sing Off, not that they needed it. They did 'Survivor: zombies vs hillbillies' and it's amazing, with makeup and costumes, including Austin with incredibly buck teeth.
Hopefully one of the songs this week is 'Just Sing' with multiple guests, if not I'd like to see a reaction to it in the future. I will also add, you need to have closed captions on for that video as they explain who all the guests are and if and when they've collaborated with VP
Not to mention the humor Layne put in the captions, especially regarding Geoff and Tim Foust. 🤣

I love Earls voice. I would love yo know what Earl is doing mow. Eli's rock tenor is spot on, and Geoff, well enough said. Layne really keeps everything on track and there transitions are crisp and clean. Sooo good and your energy in your reactions is lovely

I know you figured it out eventually, but I found it really helpful that except at the very beginning or when Geoff has the lead, the lead is pretty much always in the middle. Also, hopefully someone already suggested this to you, but Bang has the best runs.

Im not a fan of Voiceplay most of the time as their performances are not usually my forte. This is by far my favorite song I have seen them do (prolly maybe because I am a 80s/90s kid and these songs are amazing).
